Just found out on this site that apparently our device -should- be getting an official Samsung upgrade to 4.4
Now, a similar list stated that it was going to get a 4.2 upgrade as well, but we never got it, didn't we?
So, how up should we keep our hopes?
I personally find it extremely doubtful.
Also, apparently kitkat should be smoother and more lightweight than jellybean, so that it could apparently run even on older devices.
I'm a bit skeptical on this as well, but if it were true, we would find ourselves with a very interesting new os upgrade...
Here's the link to the news

IMO it would be fapping over useless numbers - "look buddy, I've gotten android 4.4"
observing that every next android needs more and more ram including the fact that samsung would never release an official rom without their heavy-weight Touchwiz - this upgrade won't happen;
2 more reasons:
- sammy is not willing to release two system updates/upgrades for a single phone except for their flagships like s, s2, s3 or note family
- I expect to see same excuse as for galaxy s9000 - not enough ram for the system and touchwiz as was the case for the expected official upgrade to ICS for the device (or no explanation at all)

Well... we won't be getting official 4.2 from Samsung
Getting 4.4 is impossible, many manufacturers don't want to lose money and time updating old phones such as this one
Only s4 and note 3 will get it
I bet they won't give support even to the s3
S advance is a very old phone and having jb on it was something rare, imagine an new android on this phone officially
4.4 only cm

We didn't get 4.2 because it was very heavy software.
4.4 will be lighter with less RAM usage, which allows a wider support.

So hopefully low end (such as the l3) will be supported as well (via cm)
To be honest, yes, cm or custom ROMs are what I would expect. Probably more than the official firmware update itself.
Judging by teamcanjica's activities as of late, I wouldn't be surprised if we were to get it relatively soon.
These guys are amazing.
Also, does anybody know much about that French company that Google has acquired to speed the whole new system up?
Can't remember the name right now...

Well, after trying TeamCanjica's 10.2, I have no doubt that once they get their hands on 4.4 or CM10.3 (is it 10.3 up next?) they'll get it running just fine. I've said it before, I'm saying it again... these guys are wizards.
I don't know if our phones would handle 4.2/4.3/4.4 with samsung's bloatware and be useful after our experience with 4.1.2, but something as lightweight as CM, yeah, why not.

Less ram usage.. But then every manufacturer build a new device with higher ram..even on the Nexus 5. Seems contradicting at some point but maybe that is what people want.

Ah good. Maybe they are fixing the things they broke
I find the changes to s-Note to be a great improvement actually. Many people here can be quick to judge without first trying to understand why the change was made. One of the update's features is the addition of the S Note miniapp which is one of the greatest things to ever happen to my research.

I like the note better after the update . feels more responsive too.
Sent from my GT-N8000 using xda app-developers app
Most peoples knock on the update is the addition of the horrid useless little panning box that appears whenever snotes is in split screen. It literally takes up 1/4 of the available real estate and serves no purpose.
The other additions are good.

Well hopefully those of us with replacement devices, probably caused by the update, as well as others who purchased new after the update was pulled will get to experience this corrected update if Samsung is working on a new update.

Maybe you are right....phone maybe faster with a smaller OS...
But...how many human in this world like to use old thing as newer, better thing already made available for us?? maybe only <= 10%???
Just my personal opinion and it doesn't point to anyone anything~
Still it would be interesting to see how it looks
Why development section?
Howver, I think, maybe it's possible, but noone should do this, it's a stupid think...why there is developping for port 4.0.+? Because is "development", and not regress. New OSs are better, it's normal.

They did announce that feature pack update, plus on release the device was given its 2GB of ram just for future support of new android versions.
My guess is it will get 4.2.1 official, but that will be the end of OTA. I have a feeling though CM and AOSP roms will be around for a while. Too many people have the US models of the GS3's, and due to the fact MOST of the code is similar between devices, it should not be hard to keep them all going as long as theres someone who cares to work on them.

The development hasn't stop just slowed down. There are 4 new ports and some of the older roms have moved on to 4.2(mainly CM,liquid smooth and slim bean). The other roms are still being updated. There is also a new ROM based on 4.2 called Pure Google. Team Baked is working on a 4.2 based ROM.

A buggy rendition of CM doesn't suddenly put the I9500 on a level playing field in terms of development. The I9505 will always be ahead in this department, simply because Snapdragon is open source and easy to develop for. The developers of CM on the I9500 deserve great credit and what they have done is superb for the community as a whole, but they're flying blind a lot of the time. You only need look at CM for the SIII (and to a lesser extent, the SII) to know there is a massive difference between the initial release and the excitement that surrounds it and once things settle down it being stable enough to use full time without bugs spoiling the experience.

Exynos 5410 is more powerful than the Snapdragon S600 then with the same ROM AOSP the 9500 is smoother.
It's really not that simple. And even if it was the difference in terms of real world use would be effectively zero, as the difference between the two phones running stock shows.

Looking forward to this FW wish it was the Official Samsung Android4.3 though.

and we can just open another thread for 9500 VS. 9505 discussion/fighting
Cheers
Back the purpose of this thread. I've had the rom running for close to a day now.
These are my findings compared to MG9....
1 Battery Drain seems worse. I've had my phone off charge for 2hrs this morning, lost only 4% battery, but screen only on for 4mins. Android OS eating 43%... But ROM may still be "settling in" (I'm not even sure if this happens in reality, but I've read something along those lines before).
2. Camera appears to open faster
3. Overall the general responsiveness of the ROM feels to be improved.
4. The Guatemala firmware is Claro branded, and comes with 14 crapware apps.
5. The auto-brightness curve appears to have changed. It is much improved on my phone, think the sensor is functioning better
Can't comment on too much more at this stage. I'd be interested to see if someone can verify my findings...
Thanks Nick! Very informative, think I'll wait for the Bangladesh version of the firmware.

To clarify, you're commenting on UBUBMH1 right? This thread is for the older changelist Chinese release ZCUBMH1... honestly, this thread needs to be closed. Hell, even the Thai firmware XWUBMG7 had a higher changelist than this Chinese release...!

Yeah I am... Sorry I forgot this thread was for the Chinese one, my apologies I saw MH1 and got excited. Well anyway for anyone who is interested, those are my findings for the UBUBMH1 which I think is currently the latest with highest changelist.
I think I'll leave this thread then, there is actually a UBUBMH1 thread already, so I'll post in there. If anyone is interested, link to thread
