[Q] Cannot perform a data wipe. Please help! - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a asus eee pad transformer which was working well since yesterday. I tryed to do a full wipe from twrp and i get this error: error removing /data/data/com.uc.browser.hd/old_webviewcachechromium_000/data_2formatting/cache...
I tried to uninstall the uc browser app but when i press uninstall button my tablet is restarting. Same if i try to delete files of uc browser.
I'm running out of ideas please help me.
Sorry if my english is bad.

Which version TWRP are you running ?
That looks like a very long directory location, possibly recovery is having problems with its length, try renaming all of those folders right down
Name them short names like 'test' using a root file explorer
Don't know if Droid struggles with long directory names / locations but I've had that problem in windows a few times
You could try setting permissions on the folders to rw/rw/rw or rw/r/r

Removing apps from /system/app (Prime)

In older versions of prime, I used to be able to use root explorer to remove applications from /system/app, and they would disappear from the tray. Lately, when I try to delete them using root explorer, they disappear when I hit delete, but they are still in the menu, and still fully functional.
I really despise having facebook on here (they just added it to the rom), and the other bloat that came with it, but not can't seem to remove it. Anyone know how?

Have you tried using Titanium Backup to uninstall the app after you have removed it from the system/app folder?

It appeared to work using Titanium. Does this mean it may be a root explorer bug? I guess I'll try downgrading to an older version of RE. I am not a big fan of titanium.
Tried a known working version of root explorer with no luck. I guess something changed in the rom or superuser which is preventing it from working properly.

If you remove the app from /system/app also delete the associated dalvik executable file from /data/dalvik-cache. This should kill the app.

I tried deleting the executable file as well, but still no luck.
Turns out it seems to be more than just the apps, I tried removing the bootanimation from /system/media with no luck. It's like I don't have r/w access.

This is probably a stupid question but did you make sure the folder was Mounted to R/W (and checking it sayds R/W at the top) via the button at the top of Root Explorer before attempting to delete the file?

It's ok, thanks for trying to help. Root explorer pops up a message if you try to delete something in R/O mode saying "... cannot be deleted because the file system is read-only."
It also seems to be working now, no idea why. Maybe a reboot did the trick. The files I remove from /system/app are now disappearing from the menu.
Still unsure on the boot animation though, is that still stored in /system/media/bootanimation.zip?

Yes but if you're on Prime 2.0.3, there's one in data/local
Anything bootanimation in data/local will over ride the one in system/media.

Yes it is.
If you copy your new bootanimation.zip file to /data/local then it will look for it there first (before looking in system/media) and load up the new file. Tested it and it works fine using Root Explorer to copy the file across but just make sure the file is made specifically for the Transformer.

Thanks guys!

[Q]AsusReader.apk fails to install [Solved]

UPDATE: I was able to install the .apk by copying it to /system/app/ no fuss no muss. Once there it was ready to run without as much as a reboot required. Thanks to baseballfanz for the solution.
I am running gnufabio's Revolver 4.0.3 RC3 and downloaded the removed apps zip. I am trying to install the AsusReader.apk (MyLibrary), when I used my TF101 stock I liked this app for PDF viewing much better than Polaris Office.
When I try and install it says installation failed, do I need to flash this via recovery (a la gapps)?
(I would have posted this in the ROM thread, but I don't have a high enough post count to post in there yet.)
I've never run into this error otherwise, try flashing via cwm, I think that's what was intended being a 'system' app.
If there's a cwm flashable file try that, if not try manually moving it to system/app instead of installing it like a regular apk
Did you find a solution for this? I really liked the MyLibrary app, I have tried installing as a zip, manually putting in the zip folder etc. There seems to be a few of the Asus apps that won't install. Alternatively does anyone know of a good app that organises PDFs in a similar way to MyLibrary?
I haven't tried flashing via cwm yet, I need to get to my laptop so I can yank the stuff I don't want out of the zip.

[edit]I just thought about what baseballfanz said and decided to give that a try. I used Root Explorer and moved the apk to /system/app and it was in my app list, no reboot needed.[/edit]
I tried moving the apk into the app folder but it didnt work. Are you using the apk from the revolver main post?
Yes, extract the apk and use a file explorer with root access. I used Root Explorer, find the extracted apk and long press on it select copy or move. Then navigate to /system/app and then touch paste.

I tried the exact same thing about 10 times and eventually it worked by renaming the APK to MyLibrary.apk. Very odd!
It's definitely the best app for displaying groups of PDF in a library view that I've found
Thanks for your help
Glad you got it all sorted MrMuz.
I just went and double checked mine and it is still AsusReader.apk
AsusReader on Lenco TAB-9701
Hello MacFett,
I have tried to install the AsusReader.apk as both AsusReader.apk and MyLibrary.apk in the system/app folder, but it does not seem to work.
The icon shows up but when I tap it I get a message that the application has stopped (after 2-5 seconds). I'm using a Lenco TAB-9701 tablet.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I really like this app (I've used it on other tablets) and would very much like to get it working.
Furthermore, does anyone have information on how to root the 9701?
Thanks in advance for your help.
It maybe that it is fc'ing because these Asus stock apps for the transformer.

[Q] LiveWallpaperPicker removed

I think I accidentally removed the LiveWallpapersPicker from my ASUS Transformer TF101 with AOKP ROM.
When I long press the homescreen I can only choose between Gallery and Wallpapers.
I found some "LiveWallpapersPicker.apk"s, but when I tried to install them, I got an incompatible error, or a message saying there is no certificate.
Can anybody help me with this?
Use a Root Explorer or other manage root app, unmount system, paste LiveWallpapersPicker.apk onto the correct directory, mount system and reboot the phone. (I dont know what is the exact directory because I don't have any Android phone, my science is only theoretical)
That worked! Thanks a lot!

Describe? It didn't work.
After placing each file in /system/apps ( I always set permissions as well 644). Reboot. you went to settings/Language & Input, placed a check beside it/Clicked Default and selected it.
If you pushed it with adb permissions may be correct already.

It's the native keyboard from Asus with Odex file.
You have 2 solutions for push these files on your system, but you need root rights:
- 1st: by ADB
adb push XXX YYY : copy the file XXXX from your PC on to your system/app YYY of your phone
- 2nd: by an APK as Root explorer, Es File Explorer etc (with root rights)
just copy and paste thes 2 files to your SDcard and copy and paste again to the system/app folder.
After don't forget to reboot your device.
And finally you went to settings/Language and Input, placed a check beside it/Clicked Default and selected it.

I did the 2nd method right from the beginning - I even set permissions for the files. The problem is that the settings thing stops responding when I try to open it with the files inside system/apps ...

Just reboot when your copy/paste is done
No good... I did everything, copied the files to system/app with root explorer, rebooted, and the keyboard isn't even listed on the settings page...

OK I'll try to duplicate your issue and report back. Which cm10 rom are you using?
I chose cm10 nightlies and I can't get a proper install either, I'm looking into why.
I'm using the 09-11 nightly.

Thanks I am working on it.
I deodexed and that failed to show installed.
Made a flash zip and that failed to show installed.
Now I'm really curious.
I need to flash stock rom and play a little then come back to cm10.
I'll report when I have more info.
I can't make it work no matter what I try, I'm sorry. If I think of anything else I'll reply here.
Maybe they are some missing librares they are in /system/lib/ ? Check the logcat, it should what is missing.

Thanks I'm looking into that now. I'll reflash stock and try to get a better idea what might be missing. I see where it fails and why but haven't been able to relate that to a lib or config yet.
Thanks for the help!
When I do something like this I don't always get it fixed but I certainly learn new things as I go.
I'm not making any progress on this problem, sorry but I'm finished unless something else turns up soon.
Maybe someone else can lend a hand.
I will flash CM next days, as I already unlocked bootloader. Myabe I can find out what is missing, but try to add all the apks from this screen, it from stock.

You have most probably messed the systemUI.apk which is located in /system/app or files associated with it. Did you remove any other apk's in which you weren't sure what it does?
In this case, Factory reset won't work because it just wipes user data and /system partition remains in tact. The nearest possible thing to do is to flash a stock ROM if exists or copy the deleted apk's borrowing from some one else's phone and place those apk's in /system/app partition setting the correct permission.
I remember exactly what I deleted. I I uninstalled Dhingana.com, Facebook and Rail yatra. I cannot start third party apps though I can install them. So I am not sure how to place the systemUI.apk in the directory /system/app. Can it be done through inbuilt file manager?

Nope, I guess not possible through default file manager. You have to use ES File Explorer File Manager or Root Explorer to place it in /system/app and change its permissions to rw-r-r.

Make sure you've mounted the /system partition as R/W before attempting to Copy or setting permissions.
