[Q]AsusReader.apk fails to install [Solved] - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

UPDATE: I was able to install the .apk by copying it to /system/app/ no fuss no muss. Once there it was ready to run without as much as a reboot required. Thanks to baseballfanz for the solution.
I am running gnufabio's Revolver 4.0.3 RC3 and downloaded the removed apps zip. I am trying to install the AsusReader.apk (MyLibrary), when I used my TF101 stock I liked this app for PDF viewing much better than Polaris Office.
When I try and install it says installation failed, do I need to flash this via recovery (a la gapps)?
(I would have posted this in the ROM thread, but I don't have a high enough post count to post in there yet.)

I've never run into this error otherwise, try flashing via cwm, I think that's what was intended being a 'system' app.

If there's a cwm flashable file try that, if not try manually moving it to system/app instead of installing it like a regular apk

Did you find a solution for this? I really liked the MyLibrary app, I have tried installing as a zip, manually putting in the zip folder etc. There seems to be a few of the Asus apps that won't install. Alternatively does anyone know of a good app that organises PDFs in a similar way to MyLibrary?

I haven't tried flashing via cwm yet, I need to get to my laptop so I can yank the stuff I don't want out of the zip.

[edit]I just thought about what baseballfanz said and decided to give that a try. I used Root Explorer and moved the apk to /system/app and it was in my app list, no reboot needed.[/edit]

I tried moving the apk into the app folder but it didnt work. Are you using the apk from the revolver main post?

Yes, extract the apk and use a file explorer with root access. I used Root Explorer, find the extracted apk and long press on it select copy or move. Then navigate to /system/app and then touch paste.

I tried the exact same thing about 10 times and eventually it worked by renaming the APK to MyLibrary.apk. Very odd!
It's definitely the best app for displaying groups of PDF in a library view that I've found
Thanks for your help

Glad you got it all sorted MrMuz.
I just went and double checked mine and it is still AsusReader.apk

AsusReader on Lenco TAB-9701
Hello MacFett,
I have tried to install the AsusReader.apk as both AsusReader.apk and MyLibrary.apk in the system/app folder, but it does not seem to work.
The icon shows up but when I tap it I get a message that the application has stopped (after 2-5 seconds). I'm using a Lenco TAB-9701 tablet.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I really like this app (I've used it on other tablets) and would very much like to get it working.
Furthermore, does anyone have information on how to root the 9701?
Thanks in advance for your help.

It maybe that it is fc'ing because these Asus stock apps for the transformer.

Readers Hub 12/06/10

i know theres other threads out there with readers hub
but none thats fully functional
this was ripped out of the jm6 fw that was just released last week
i pulled it off my own tab
just install all apks and all should work
you might have to put them in your system app folders then restart
see post 2 for zinio apk
Please let me know your results
heres zinio apk
Awesome. Thanks alot. I have a north american tab so these apps were not included. I hav ed actually found aldiko and nook to be great reader apps, especially since you can import epub files. I tried to replace my gallery app with another that was supposed to display as higher resolution images, which it does but also force closes often. Any chance you can upload the stock gallery 3d apk?
VZW Tab
I tried to install the ReadersHub.apk, no dice :-(
put in in your system apps folder and reboot
I installed this and can get zinio working to where the magazine subscriptions are present, but there are no pictures. I installed it about two weeks ago. Do you know how old this Apk is? I'd love to get it to work.

I'm EXTREMELY new at this apparently, when you say system apps folder, which one is that? I tried to put it into the Root folder but I cannot get it to work.

i think you want to use root explorer or adb to put apk in /system/apps/ folder.
Zinio still doesn't show the page pictures unless you pinch to zoom for any magazines after August 2010. Does anyone know why this is or if there is a fix in the works? Cannot get any info from zinio directly.

ok you need to be rooted and have busy box install to be able to write to system
once you have above done open up estrongs/or root explorer find the app your trying to install copy it and paste it into system / apps folder then reboot
I still can't get the Reader's Hub file to install or show up in the apps list after rebooting. I've spent hours trying to get this work and no dice.
Wonder if the problems with Zinio can be remedied by changing our screen density settings? Just a thought, may be way off here.

Copied with Root explorer and rebooted. Still doesn't show up as installed. Is there supposed be a .odex file to go with it?

[Q] Issues with downloading things on SD and seeing them in recovery

I'm running into this issue and don't know what I'm doing wrong. When I download things they automatically go into my sdcard/download folder. I downloaded a theme for the Xoom and I verified it was on my SD card by going into Root Explorer and looking for it.
When I reboot into recovery and go to install the .zip the file doesn't who up at all. Also if my card is corrupted is there a way to wipe from the Xoom itself?
It needs to go in the external folder within your sdcard.
So I have to make a folder called external and move the things? Is there a way to have the browser through downloads to a particular folder instead of me having to do it manually? I prefer to browse XDA from the browser and I like to download things from XDA. I will try that now and see if that works. Thanks I'll post back if it works out for me.

It won't work
You can't just make a file called external. I assumed that you had installed one of BRD's custom kernel's. This is the only way you can use the external SDcard. I assumed since you had cwm recovery working that you had done this.
Start with this post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978013
You need to be updated to 3.1 to use the latest kernel.
I also don't know of away to (easily) change the download location with the stock browser. An aftermarket browser may let you change the download location.
Awesome. It worked when I moved it into the extracted folder. I was able to flash the theme.
I was wondering if there was a way to change download path by editing something in root explorer.. Most if not all the things I download are from XDA and are flashable.
ok, guess you got it working

Easy Hulu on Transformer - now works on ICS too

Hello, So I was wanting to use hulu on my transformer and was tired of having to do what is listed here as a fix
" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076853&highlight=hulu " since I am lazy.
I have had hulu working on my samsung Epic 4G for awhile using the method below.
So I was wanting to know if it would work on this tab and gave it a shot
Yeaahhhh it works
From that forum I downloaded the flash fix (attached below) and just extracted the data/flash/libflashplayer.so file. Then using AnTek Explorer I copied that file to the /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib directory and hit Ok when asked to overwright the current file.
If you have clockwork and a kernal that supports init.d then you can just flash the zip and should be good to go from that point on since it will run the script automatically at each boot. If not you will just need to copy and paste the libflashplayer.so file each time you restart which is what I currently have to do since I have a B90 and am only rooted and straight stock without a customer recovery or kernal.
I only use Dolphin and confirm it works with that and stock. Cannot confirm any other browsers though I can't see why it would not work.
-----------------------------
EDIT
So this stopped working when I updated to ICS
After looking through the forums I was able to get a updated file that does work in ICS from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427095
Again I just copy and paste the LIB file into the correct folder and replace the existing one
The only difference is that when using the stock Browser you have to select Request Desktop Page from the menu
I just use Dolphin and works just fine
The file also includes a script that can be used with script manager to auto-load on each boot. Follow instructions from original thread if you want to do that.
Can anybody confirm if this works on the any of the ICS ROMS?
The zip does not work. Status 0 error.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Thanks man, I've spent the last hour or two trying to run that script from other posts to get flash to work for Hulu. Don't know why I was getting the errors I was (wasn't finding the file?), but this worked much better on my TF301 (stock/rooted).
Edit: Never mind, I've been punked, it will show the advertisement, but doesn't seem to load the video. I'm back to figuring out what happened with the script. Haha, the script didn't work because, as noted above, I'm not on a busyboxed ROM like I'm used to... but either way I'm still only able to watch ads.

[Q] How to get gapps-jb-xxx.zip file under JB

I just installed the latest JB file from CM10, as announced on the site. The installation went smoothly, and without any problem. However, in the instructions provided, there was a link to the Google Apps for this version, named gapps-jb-20120717-signed.zip. I also downloaded the file, and it is also put under /sdcard on my tablet. But I can't install this zip file. I have CWM version 5.8.3.1 installed, which seemed to work fine with this CM JellyBean. I am getting an error message about the zip file when trying to install the Google Apps file mentionned above. On the announcement page with the links to download the files, they only give the links to the two -signed.zip files. I assumed that both zip files should be installed the same way, but it appears they are not. Can anyone help me ?
NB: I use the Samsung Docking station/keyboard. Anyone had any issue with this before ?
Thank
Extract the apk's from the zip folder and install them normally! Few apps won't install this way. Put those apk's in "system/app" and change the permission to rw-r--r--
Reboot your phone and the apps should be there!

Bad file
Although the file was pointed properly in the page, the actually downloaded file had a mad MD5 checksum, which was not displayed on the download link, only on the download page. I also noticed that after restarting, I had a strange display, where instead of having the default green wallpaper, I was having lines of random color bars. Another reboot, and it now seems to be fine again.
I also mentioned that I have this Samsung keyboard that attaches to the tablet, and has a replication port. The keys on the top, like Back, Home, etc, seem to work only half the time. More testing will be required on this.
Good Idea !

That's an idea, and I will also look at this. I guess this is what will give me the Google Apps program so I can re-download and/or reinstall the programs that I used to have under HoneyComb 3.2.
Thanks. I will try this too. :

Asus Mynet app

Hi there. I try to install Asus Mynet app on another tablet (Nexus 7) but copying .apk and .odex files did not do the job. Is there another way to install? Thank you.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T
It's possible that it only works on ASUS firmware. As each stock ROM is different from device to device.
Also, It could be that asus uses some sort of app framework. If they do, then you probably need to install it.

You won't be able to copy the .odex file to the nexus 7 as the frameworks are different. You need to use the DEODEX version of mynet and copy that.
Either find a version of the ASUS Apps or download CROMI from my sig and extract it from there.

You can't install it like a normal apk as it will be signedprotected (?) differently.
You can insert it into your systm/app folder and change the permissions to the same as other system apps using root explorer or es file explorer - it might work that way. Remember to reboot after.

Nope, tried that and it still doesn't work. BTW - the permissions were already the same as other apps.
Thanks for the idea though...
