It's very lightly. You just can hardly see it. Take a picture of a white wall!

Do you use any custom rom ?
Try clean the glass of the camera.

The lens is clean. Thanks! At 8 MP there is no black bar. Try it yourself!

I can confirm the 6MP (3264x1836 resolution) camera bug (first photo). It's more visible on the smartphone's display. At first I thought it was a hardware related, but then I was able to solve the problem by reverting the device from Jelly Bean 4.2.2 to Jelly Bean 4.1.2 (I9105PXXAMA2, second photo). I even tried several other 4.2.2 firmwares (I9105PXXUBMG8, I9105PXXUBMI1, I9105PXXUBMI3), but even with the unofficial CM11 the blue-grey bar appears. Maybe others could test if the 3264x1836 camera resolution works flawless on their device and report which firmware they use, because I would like to switch back to 4.2.2 (as it seems to be more stable and less battery draining).

It is probably camera problem.
Or maybe is problem WHERE did you buyed phone.
You can simply flash new firmware via Odin. Problems should gone.
If that doesnt still help, try other camera application from Play Store.
If grey line still appears on Photos, your camera have problem, and it requires Service.

I can confirm that... I'm on Endymion currently and i see the purple line too... approx 3-4 pixels thick.
But to be fair to instagram, they do warn when selecting the advanced camera that it does not work on all devices...

??? Why not just use the built in stock camera???
He wants to use instagram... And only has problem with the advanced camera inside of instagram. Just disable that option and you're good to go if your stock camera is OK. No sense using a third party camera of the problem is app specific.
Beamed telepathically using Tapatalk
The problem is with camera drivers from cm or the kernel.
The stock camera app has same problem.
That's why I use camera360 which have hardware compatibility mode.

Oh ok...
Just wondering... are you talking about an ICS ROM? Or GB? I think the OP has lost interest after starting the thread, and left us here to squabble!!
If you ask me, i think this problem is app centred, and I encountered it even on Instagram running on GB 2.3.5 (I'm running Endymion - Sense 3.5) where the stock camera is the best you'll find for the Desire S on any ROM.
I'm using stock ROM. Obviously I'm aware I can disable the option of using Instagram's in-built camera, but this is not the solution I'm hoping for I love Instagram filters but I don't like the fact I have to come out of the app and open up stock Android cam app, resize it, and go back again. Using Instagram's advanced am feature is so much better.
The rest of the image is fine and the option works perfectly APART from this one really ruining fluorescent pink line down the left side of every image.

Well, that's a bug with the app... sit tight, with Instagram's growing popularity, they're bound to roll out updates with fixes to the camera anytime soon!
Regardless, there's nothing you or I could do to fix an app issue. Instagram will have to fix that.
When you still experiencing this using Instagram camera try to switch to front camera take a shot, then revert to back camera. Pink line gone now. Works for me.

[APP 4.0+] Android 4.4 Camera

Here's the KitKat standalone camera app, compiled from source with no modifications.
It should work on 4.0 and up.
This doesn't include Photosphere and really isn't much different to the 4.3 camera.
Maybe it's just my device, but the camera is very laggy. I'm running stock ICS (Touchwiz) on my Ace II X.

Try it and see but the 4.3 google camera (with gallery) is really much more usable.
This doesn't play videos and the menu is a bit slow to open.
I still can't see a difference between stock jb camera app.
Sent from note, a phone like never before
Runs good, but only pictures up to 8mp...

I'm not going to make any modifications to this, it is what it is, if you want a better camera there's plenty of choice.
I cant choose another location to save my images. I want them to my SD Card. Stock JB is better.
I installed the camera app as per your instructions but everytime I take a pic, the app freezes and I have to restart my phone for it to work again (only for it to freeze after another pic).
I am on cm10.2. Any idea on how to correct this?

NEW: LGCamera Port for Android 4.3 ALL and i9500/i9505

NEW: LGCamera Port for Android 4.3 ALL and i9500/i9505
Hi Guys,
I have compiled the latest LGCamera App and its supporting depedancy libraries to make it work on Android 4.3 General ALL and i9500/i9505. This is a tested package and All the features are working as expected. Device to Device features might work or might not work.
"BSDgeek_Jake_LGCamera_Port_AndroidGeneric4.3ALL_i9500_i9505_CWM" to be Flashed from CWM recovery.
"BSDgeek_Jake_LGCamera_Port_AndroidGeneric4.3ALL_i9500_i9505_MANUAL" to be extracted to '/system' and manually set permissions to '0.0' (root:root) and '644' (rw-r-r). You might want to use "Root Explorer" to achieve this or your prefered explorer which has root capability.
NOTE: Before doing any modification to your device, please Remember to take Backup for your Device through CWM. Although i have tested this package thoroughly and found no issues BUT I am not responsible for any issues which might arise.

Great, thanks for this. It works great without any FC's and pics seems very clear than ones shot with TW camera.
Found two problems.
1. Even thou i chose 10M, 16:9 it always takes pictures in 4:3
2. no possibility to chose external SD card and it places pics always on internal SD.
Thanks.

For second one,
Since this has been taken from LG G2 & G2 doesn't support External SD, Camera app doesn't have save to External SD option.

Google Play Edition requires a seperate modified LG Camera App since it's completely AOSP based or Pure Android.

Hi peeps, I found a camera apps that adds more features over stock or AOSP's camera.
I am still testing out but so far so good. This should work on all versions and it works fine on CM11 too.

No, you can still choose which to use. I prefer this on normal shoot because it will turn on auto-brightness for me. Panorama will go for CM's camera.

I see no difference, but I haven't tested much time. I can't pause the video recording, which is supposed to be one of the new features, so maybe there is something else to update, not just the camera apk

Ok, just got the OTA and installed it..........I'll have to revert to 4.4.2........this version is still buggy, for instance, camera does not have a on screen option to switch between cameras, so I'm stuck with the front camera.......not a big fan of taking selfies. Beside that, the slow motion recording is gone. IMO it's not worth to upgrade yet.

Okay, after thinking it through and chatting with a tier 1 tech from Motorola(which didn't help), I've decided to flash TWRP again and picked up a flashable 4.4.3 from the XDA community, voila, it works and I'm pleased.

As Motorola said I didn't find pause button while video recording... In 4.4.3
Works fine ....the results are much better in low light confitions.

Nice pic I JUST took with the 4.4.3 one. (Still on 4.4.2)
I tested the pre-update and post-update camera and it seems that there's no difference with picture quality at all: the front-facing camera's low-light horizontal streaking still exists.
Motorola must have done the camera fix in the system's root with the 4.4.3 update, which may be why we don't see any difference with the camera. The exposure, low-light streaking, and flash coloring don't seem like things that can be fixed with an app update. :/
