I selected recovery under power options but it only reboots the tablet. No reboot to recovery option. Is the only way to boot to recovery to hold buttons down and force reboot to recovery?

Have you tried using ROM Manager's reboot to recovery option?
I've only heard that I should avoid ROM manager. I'm actually shocked that boot to recovery is not an option in cm.10.2. I feel like I must be doing something wrong because how could it not be there??!!!!

If you don't want to use ROM Manager, then try using Quick Boot. Just search for it in the Play Store.
Do you have "Advanced Reboot" checked in developer options in Settings?

I just installed the ATT stock ROM rooted, and when I now go into CWM Rom Manager, and try to reboot into recovery, or flash a rom from SD card, it says I need to reboot, then says press ok to reboot, I press ok and it just does nothing. Why isn't it rebooting?
Are you actually getting into CWM? Or is it just prompting you at the HTC bootloader screen to reboot? How did you flash the stock rooted rom?

I get into CWM just fine.
I go into CWM and press install ROM from SD, and select the ROM, then it says i need to reboot to install, I press OK, and then it just goes back to the CWM list of options, so I try "Reboot into recovery" and it just does nothing, as if I hadn't pressed anything, no reboot, nada.
I had this issue before with the ATT rooted ROM... not sure what's going on.
Actually I think I misread your post. Are you even getting out of Rom manager? I always boot into recovery by holding the volume down and pressing the power button from an off state. Rom manager is kind of quirky.

would be nice to have a simple way to boot into recovery tho.
ADB
ADB reboot recovery
Hold down volume and press power from an off state. Scroll down to recovery and hit the power button.

Coredroid you can press the power button reboot and select recovery.
Both methods mentioned above work.
You can also install quickboot from the market. You can run it, or create a widget to boot directly into recovery.
Hi,
I rooted my Samsung Infuse and flashed CM7 as explained in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311960
It looks awesome, many thanks to the people who put it together. ( I couldn't reply there since I am a "noob")
My phone boots fine in to CM7 and I can make calls and use other hardware, no problem so far.
I was trying to get Gapps by going to Rom Manger -> Download ROM -> Scroll down to Google Apps. It reboots and ends up at the screen with the white triangle around an exclamation and the android icon. I do not get the ClockworkMod menu. I have to press and hold the power button to reboot normally and get back to CM7.
Am I missing the recovery executable file? I looked in /system/bin and /sbin and it is not there. Should I copy the one I used earlier in to /system.bin ?
Thank you.
I believe cwm can show that when it is working, on some builds you can toggle between it showing the files being copied and that screen with the power button if I remember right.
Thanks for the reply, Dani897.
I am trying to get the Google apps installed which I couldn't since the recovery mode isn't showing up.
Any hint how I can get them on?

Not really sure, I don't run CM7. But if you are using ROM manager it might just start flashing and never enter the menu.
If it is hanging maybe you can find gapps.zip on xda somewhere and put it on the sd card. Then use the reboot into recovery option instead of the flash ROM option in ROM manager.
Why not install the. Apk's instead of flashing the Google aps

Thanks Dani897, didn't realize the reboot has recovery option. Now I have the Gapps installed.
In fact, CWM showed up when I rebooted into recovery mode. Wonder why ROM Manager couldn't do that.

If I remember correct ROM manager has several options, 1 is to download and flash roms, 1 is to flash from sd card 1 is to reboot into recovery. if you use the first two options it goes into recovery but not the menu, it skips strait to flashing so you don't needed to do any more work, it only shows the menu if you reboot into recovery.

Do you happen to know of a reliable source for such apk's?

Good to know that. In fact, I tried the "Download ROM" option which downloaded the Gapps zip and rebooted in to the white triangle screen.
Now moving onto fixing other issues
Thank you.
It is impossible to use the bottom command for rebooting into recovery mode in stock ROM.
Code:
$ reboot recovery
Then, I made a patch for solving this problem.
After installing this patch, you can reboot into recovery mode to type the bottom command into ADB or Terminal Emulator application.
Code:
$ reboot-recovery
This .zip file is installed through ClockworkMod Recovery.

Or if your on custom rom you can just go to settings, Privacy and click factory data reset.. it wont delete anything click reset phone and it will take you into your CWM recovery..
It won't delete anything because you do not have the original recovery it will just go to cwm recovery you do what you need to and reboot. You don't lose anything unless you format while your in recovery. Simple solution. But thank you very much for this ...

Oops.. oh my mistake... I edited this thread..
This patch just enable rebooting into recovery mode(like CWM Recovery) easily.
This patch may enable that adding "restart" button into shutting down menu is easy.

Hello iBluemind and thanks for your work. This is a real "patch" or a replacement binary? I see it is somehow old, now.
Can we use it, for example, on my Samsung GT-S7562 (Duos S) that's rooted and re-flashed with stock 4.0.4 ROM (DDBMJ1) that was deoxed, rooted, optimized, bloatware-removed etc.? The only thing that I am trying to achieve and that's not there is the "Reboot into Recovery" option when selecting power menu… (or even reboot to recovery via SSH command, of course, as it doesn't happen now).
Many thanks to everyone!
Bro just type su before reboot recovery on stock to reboot to recovery!
I've looked through the searches but I couldnt really find the answer.
I've rooted and unlocked my HOX but I can't boot into bootloader through volume donw + power.
I have CleanROM 4.0 flashed and the 4.1 version just came out. It says to use TWRP so I will.
How do I go about removing CWM that I installed through the one-click tutorial?
I want to put TWRP after that.
Thanks a lot XDA.

Make sure fastboot I the power settings is u checked then you can boot into bootloader with the button combo. And the easiest way to install twrp would be to use Goo Manager from the market, it will install it for you.

Thanks for the response, I appreciate it.
I still can't boot into bootloader with both fastboot checked and unchecked. However I did install TWRP through Goomanager. By doing that does it mean CWM is gone?
It freaks my out that I can't use my H-boot. :crying:

You can use your bootloader, you need to make sure fastboot is unchecked, and when you hold power + vol down make sure you let go of power and keep vol down til in bootloader, and yes cwn is gone you can only have one recovery.
Just keep trying you will get it.

Assuming you still have CleanROM installed... try this:
1. Boot into the Android OS as usual
2. Press and hold the power key; this will bring up the "Phone Options" dialog
3. Select "Restart"; this will bring up a second "Phone Options" dialog
4. Choose "Recovery"
The phone will reboot into recovery. No need to press and hold volume down or anything like that. See attached screenshots.

I was just going to say, use the Advanced Power Menu way, which is what I do almost every time to get into Recovery.
If you do the power+vol down way, make sure the phone is fully powered off (with fast boot unchecked in power settings). Hold down vol down, then depress the power button for a few seconds, release power, but keep holding vol down until you get into Hboot.
Might just be (hopefully) pilot error. If neither method works, you have some other issue.
I've had my Galaxy S3 for a while now, Android version 4.0.4. I decided to root and unlock the phone, following these steps. Reading through Section 2, I successfully rooted the phone. After that, I installed version 1.1 of EZ-Unlock, pressed unlock, and it said it was successful. Then, I installed EZ-Recovery. From there, I checked the bullet for recovery and selected CWM 6.0.1.0 from the drop-down list. I pressed "Flash!", and it was successful. The problem came when I pressed "Reboot Recovery" and nothing happened. The phone acted as if I didn't do anything.
Would really appreciate if I could get some help. Very new to the Android community.
You could just flash recovery through rom manager
Rom manager wont work on an odexed (stock) ROM, iirc. If nothing happens when you hit reboot recovery, try powering off the device, then hold vol up and home button plus power button for 10 seconds, and that should take you into recovery.
Sounds like you didn't grant superuser rights. IIRC you have to grant them twice. If that wasn't the case then just enter recovery manually as apacseven said.

I have granted EZ-Recovery SuperUser rights and still no response. After manually entering recovery mode, it goes to the stock recovery mode, and not the CWM recovery.
