[Q] LTE with custom ROM - General Questions and Answers

I've been trying several custom roms and lose 4G once they're installed. This is on a Sprint Galaxy S4. I've tried changing the kernel, resetting the flash counter via TriangleAway, etc. but nothing seems to work. As soon as I restore my MF9 backup with TWRP, 4G comes back.
Can someone confirm that it is possible to retain 4G with a custom ROM.
Thanks,
Greg

Get Back to Stock

Hello all,
I read enough threads when work provided me an SIII to make me paranoid to the max as far as flashing anything (losing data for good, stuck on 3G roaming, etc). Can I safely flash back to complete stock with ODIN without risking losing 4G Data Connectivity on this device? I am not new to flashing (I have rooted, flashed, etc on the following: Cliq, Droid X, Droid X2, Droid 3, Droid 4, Droid Razr, Galaxy Nexus, and Xoom) and have flashed and am proficient with devices with permalocked bootloaders (MOTO). Can anyone shed some light? I'm sure I can find the links if it is safe, that's all I'm worried about.
Right now I am on the previous JB release, rooted, with a custom recovery. I did the ODIN flash of modified release (stock, the one that made it easier to get root).
TIA
You should have minimal to no risk of losing 4G data if you are flashing back to complete stock. Use the information from section 5 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709. If on the extremely small chance you did lose data you could input the factory reset dialer code *2767*3855# which should restore your data service.

[Q] S3 full data, no phone? back to stock still no phone why

so i originally rooted, installed insecure boot, and had cm 10.1 up and running fully functional. it was slightly glitchy so i installed miui rom, in the process i erased my original backup from the internal sd. i have no original recovery files. while on miui i had no data nor phone access. so i returned to stock only to find
full 4g data but unable to make or receive phone calls
why?
so i plow through the forums and try this and that. different roms, kernels, and img files trying to get my phone back but to no avail.
im stuck now tried every permutation of stock install
what next.?

[Q] No Data after Flashing Custom Rom

Kind of long, but it's just a difficult explanation, please read and try to help me. Thank you.
Okay, so I have a really weird problem, and I can't seem to fix it at all. I unlocked the bootloader and rooted my Sprint Motorola Photon Q, and had no problem with data loss, then I flashed PAC Man Rom, and everything went fine and it flashed but then I noticed that I had no data. No 3G, 4G, or 4G LTE, the phone lost network signal, but what was weird is that I could still receive texts and phone calls.
So, then I read that wiping the Dalvik and the regular cache would fix it, and it didn't. Then, I also tried flashing a different ROM which also didn't fix it. I RSD back to stock firmware and the problem was gone. I even tried rerooting and just installing a different ROM but, it still had the same issue, so I just went back to stock again.
Can someone please help me fix this? I've looked everywhere and I can't really find anything to help me out with this.
Thank you in advance.
Is your provider Sprint as well...?
I'm not sure, data works here on custom ROM's... which version are you flashing? Have you tried CM11?
There's some new device unification going on, the newest KK builds are going to be under the "moto_msm8960" device instead of xt897...
No I haven't tried CM11. Where do I find the IMG for it at?
I have Flash Wireless, which is Sprint prepaid. I have tried CM11 and still nothing. I don't understand what is going on....I'm getting real frustrated because I want to put a good custom ROM on my phone....

Perhaps that's the issue. Did you check your APN settings? Is it using Sprint's network?

Buying soon. Question concerning roms

So, I'm buying this to replace my evo 4g and I was wondering how I would go about using a custom ROM for this and having the apns and data working correctly.
I plan to activate it on Ting.
To be a bit clearer, I want to use a custom ROM and I want to be sure that it'll work. So first, can anyone on Ting confirm that they're running a custom ROM (preferably KitKat) with no problems?
And I assume I'd have to activate the phone first, then install a custom ROM. Would I have any problems doing that? Would the apns be messed up? Or should everything be fine as long as I activate the phone and update everything on stock before installing a ROM? Reason I ask is because I know some Roms don't allow the *#*# thing needed to activate a phone on a new network.
Thanks!
I am using mine on Ting. I had used my first Q as unrooted stock JB, which worked pretty well for a year, but then it reached a near--bricked state where it wouldn't boot past the yellow Sprint screen. I couldn't resolve this in a timely fashion, so wound up buying a second Q which runs stock ICS, but failed to download the stock JB update.
In the meantime, I unlocked both phones' bootloaders, and tried a few kItkat ROMs on my original phone before settling on CM 10.2, which is a JB ROM. I then switched my Ting activation (back) to this phone. The lack of #*# commands isn't really a problem with respect to re-activation, but it is a problem with respect to PRLs and (perhaps) APNs. I recommend Ting activation and a PRL update prior to installing your custom ROM.
Like others, I would like to learn about a stable kitkat ROM where bluetooth, wifi, and phone data/sms/calling all work reliably. My other primary requirement is the ability to play DRM'd downloaded Amazon Prime Music, which didn't work on the kitkat ROMs I tried, but does work on my JB ROM.
