[Q] How to change recovery - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Im on the latest twr 2.6.3.0 but it does not read my backups idk why so now i wanna go the CM recovery.. What are the proper steps for this would i loose all my stuff.. Txts apps app data like my bookmarks etc

CWM and TWRP are incompatible so you can't use TWRP backups on CWM or vice versa. You can download Rom Manager and flash CWM through that. If you want to keep your backups then restore TWRP nandroids one at a time, switch to CWM, then perform a backup.

You can try to use philz touch recovery, it can also restore TWRP backups.

[Q] Please Help

Hey im new to atrix 2 because i had nexus one and samsung infuse in the past and there flashing instructions where easy but for me this seams complicated. So far i rooted my Atrix 2 and ive installed bootstrap. MY goal is to install this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1584505 but im not sure what to do because i was reading different threads and some people say you need cwm on boot others say you do some other stuff.... Can someone expierienced give me step by step instructions of what to do next thank you.
Sonya comes with cwm on boot. Just download the zip and extract it to the cwm folder on your sd card, then do a full wipe, and then restore it.

Every time you reboot it automatically goes into cwm.

Then to get into rom all you have to do is press reboot from the recovery?
Yes. We don't have a way to actually flash an alternate recovery image, so doing it this way helps prevent softbricks.

Which recovery for non kexic boot?

Once and for all, it's so freaking confusing since the bootloader has been unlocked, which recovery do I flash if I use a non kexic Rom, and if I don't want the triple boot?
Thanks in advance.

[Q] question about TWRP and CWMR

If I installed both, what would happen when I reboot into recovery? Will I get to choose one over the other upon booting?
You can't install both
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
Whichever you installed last would be your recovery.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
Thank you guys. These two recoveries are both great and similar. But I like to use CWM especially the new touch version.
Twrp is better than classic cwm in my opinion, didn't try the touch one

Sad story.
But what is the problem? Any error message? We can't help us if you don't tell us what's wrong.

MD5 sum mismatch? Then either your backup is corrupted or you changed versions of Clockworkmod Recovery in between backing up and restoring. What version are you using?

Did you rename the backup by chance to something with spaces in it and unapproved characters? Backups can't have any spaces and must use A-Z, 0-9, and underscores in the filename.

There were a lot of issues with CWM recovery v6 prior to 6.0.1.0. One of them being backups getting corrupt. There's good chances your backup is corrupt and you'll have to start fresh. You can try installing 6.0.1.0 and see if you're able to restore (although I would doubt) or you can try to restore partially (Go in Advanced Restore).
Either way, make sure to upgrade to the latest version once you are done.
One more thing, have you touched the Clockworkmod folder in any way? Touched the blobs folder? Freed space? Because the way the new Clockworkmod works is incremental, so you don't want to modify anything.
No i didn't tamper with dat folder. Pls can u point me to where i can download the version u are talking about?

Rightmost column.
Personally I do not like the new CWM v6, so I'm using version 5.8.0.2 Touch. Very reliable, but the backups are larger than the new one (but complete instead of incremental)

Odin vs twrp/cwm better/worse?

What are the pros and cons?
Flashing ROM/gapps/modem. Etc
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
For modems/roms/kernels, CWM and TWRP are personal preference. I don't believe there are Odin versions of the JB modems available, just ICS, so it can't really be compared. I am a recent convert to TWRP and I find it is great and allows me to name backups prior to making a backup. CWM is reliable and just as easy. Although backups are improperly dated on CWM, same for TWRP if you forget to manually name it, but it's a personal preference thing really.
Odin is Odin. There when I need it but hopefully I don't need it.
