Hi guys.
I thought I'd share my experiences with some products I bought. It's the least I could do for a forum that's provided me with so much good stuff. Descriptions of the experiences will be brief and straightforward.
Let's get straight to business.
Zagg InvisibleSHIELD Dry Screen Protector [front and back]
When I purchased my GS4, I ended up getting this screen protector kit for free after haggling with the sales rep. Always haggle.
Installation was straightforward and easy due to the dry install. Clean the screen, align the protector, apply, squeegee. Repeat for the back.
The texture of this protector was very similar to Zagg's original wet application protectors. It's slightly thicker than the average cheap screen protector, it feels tough, but the trade-off is high friction. Some (like me) wouldn't enjoy this.
If light hits the screen at the right angle, you can generally see some marks on the screen protector as it is essentially a flexible plastic material. Not a big deal, and they sometimes go away (Zagg's signature "self-healing" product).
The back protector has a matted finish to it. It may appeal to some as the back of the S4 is highly glossy - even the black models which have a crosshatch black and silver design. The matted protector tones down the glossiness and the black/silver crosshatch design gains sort of a dull metallic look. Pretty cool.
If you're particularly looking for a Zagg product and hate wet application as I do, then this will be the product for you. Overall much better than the Zagg HD protector (as I will explain below).
Zagg HD Screen Protector
After the high friction nature of the Zagg Dry application screen protector bugged me too much, I decided to try out the HD. The representative at Best Buy was telling me just how amazing it was. So.. as the naive consumer, I gave it a shot.
$25.99 + Tax - Pretty much standard price for retail stores, and the bulletproof warranty that Zagg offers is always nice.
Installation was a breeze. I paid them 8 dollars to get a terrible application job involving several dust bubbles. They assured me all of it would disappear after 48 hours. Surely enough, after 48 hours I came back and had them re-install a new one for free.
Not to bash the folks over at Best Buy - some of them are great. Just make sure you tell them not to saturate your phone to the point of comparison of a liquid submersion with that Zagg spray solution.
The HD seemed like it delivered at first. I had the protection (that they claim), and the screen felt a lot smoother than the dry application/original. It nearly felt too good to be true - and it was.
The Zagg HD's texture is thanks to being a little thinner than their original. The consequence of this is that even the slightest pressure with your fingernail ends up creating an indentation mark on the protector. Worst of all is that these indentations are essentially permanent.
Within one week, my screen was cluttered with indents from poking and entire streaks from swiping.
It actually doesn't look bad when you're directly looking at the screen or at night. As a matter of fact, you can't even tell they're there. If you're out in the sun however, forget it. Text is illegible at times due to the sunlight showing those indentation marks to tear your sanity asunder.
Save your money, don't get this.
Spigen Glas t Nano Slim [0.15mm]
The search for a decent screen protector seemed to be grim until I came across this. The Glas t Nano Slim is made of tempered glass. Glass on top of glass - who (a noob like me) would have thought?
It was pricey. $34.99 + Shipping for a single screen protector without a bulletproof warranty (like Zagg) is pretty heavy.
Needless to say, I purchased it after reading so many great reviews of the product.
Contents: Protector, squeegee, a clear back protector (that I didn't use), microfiber cloth, some plastic button stickers (to put over your home key) in orange, white, and black. They look like plastic bubbles (not all that great).
Being such an expensive screen protector, I decided to use a shower steam technique:
Take your clothes off
Go to the bathroom
Shut the door
Clean the counter you'll use with microfiber
After cleaning your phone of oils, place your phone and screen protector+installation materials in a drawer
Turn the shower on (hot)
Place a hand rag on the floor (to keep debris low)
Wash (the crap) out of your hands, dry with rag on floor
Turn shower off when the mirror fogs
Wait a few minutes for the steam to settle (else you may get water particles to adhere to the screen protector adhesive)
Take phone/protector/materials out of drawer
Use alcohol swab included in package to wipe screen
Use same swab to wipe counter once more before setting phone down
Wipe screen with microfiber cloth included in package
Take off screen protector backing while holding the screen protector adhesive side DOWN
Align, drop, gently press finger on center and watch the adhesive evenly spread
Use squeegee for any bubbles (I had none)
I'm absolutely terrible at installation but this one was on perfect.
At first glance you can hardly tell there's a screen protector at all. The fit is very close to the edges. There's an oleophobic coating on the glass so your fingers will glide across the screen. Responsiveness is crisp (for all 3 screen protectors).
The tradeoff for such a great looking/feeling screen protector is protection. Zaggs don't shatter. Supposedly the Glas t will crack like an eggshell if broken, and you can simply peel it all off in one piece. Hopefully, I won't have to find out myself.
The problem I witnessed with going naked on screens (with my Galaxy S2) was that the oleophobic coating eventually wears off. It took me about a year before the coating was completely gone. This makes the screen smudge severely to the point of no visibility in sunlight.
The Glas t protector is a neat addition. You can use it (hopefully) for a year until the oleophobic coating wears off, then just rip it off and either put another one on or just use the screen naked. If naked, it'll perhaps be time to consider an upgrade by the time that coating wears off anyways.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Summary:
Zagg Dry: Orange peel look, tough protection, high friction, matted finish on battery plate, marks may heal over time, bulletproof warranty
Zagg HD: Smoother feel than Dry/Original, prone to indentation/scratch marks, marks do NOT heal, bulletproof warranty
Spigen Glas t: Made of tempered glass, oleophobic coating (super smooth touch), close to invisible, feels a little fragile (since it's glass), expensive, only limited warranty (defects)
It's my first review, so I apologize for any sloppiness. Will write more reviews on a couple of cases and batteries sometime down the road (after I used them enough).
Happy shopping folks - choose carefully.
That's a great review man. Thanks for taking the time to write it.

Was just starting my search for screen protectors, and this was great. Thanks for the review! How was the screen clarity between the dry Zagg and the Glas T? I've noticed with previous Zagg wet applications a severe degradation in clarity with the screen protector on.
I had the spigen Glas.T nano installed, real glass @ 0.15mm, fantastic product but for me it proved to be a little fragile, in my pocket something caused the edge to "chip" then it just spread accross the screen. I'm now using spigen Glas.TR which is a little thicker @ 0.4mm but has the rounded edges for better "chip" protection.
I see that for iPhone 5 they've fetched out a Glas.TR nano @ 0.23mm thickness & rounded edges, If they fetch these out for S4 I'll be buying one.

Hello
As I have already ruined 80 euros worth of glass screen protectors (I even used the shower method but dust kept coming underneath it and cleaning it with soapy water didn't really help.) I'm now looking for a case that also protects the screen. The otterbox defender caught my eye but I'm wondering if the screen protector will mess with the vibrancy of the colors.
Best method to apply an screen protector is :
Gather the stuff in your room before going to sleep at night , besides the screen protector kit include a transparent glass cleaner spray (not necessary but useful to be in spray) and a extra clean cloth and gloves (if you have hairy hands).
Then next morning as soon you wake up and before you open any door or windows, get your phone, clean carefully, place the screen protector at its ideal position then hold at its ideal position with tape (some kits include if not your case get tape before gather in your room) and then apply generous glass cleaner liquid enough to cover all the screen surface under the protector and the screen surface, but not too much as this could drain into your phone, then apply the screen protector on the wet surface, remove air bubbles and Woallah your screen protector it's perfect.
I used to be fan of Otterbox products but lately don't offer the best protection for that bulk if you are really concerned on protection other choices are better (and maybe cheaper too).
I use Speck candy shell on my note 2 and I have ordered (delayed at customs) an Spigen armor lite view for my new S4.
As screen protector I avoid glass based I prefer Buff brand (layered polycarbonate and soft polyethylene) are cheap (at least I find it cheap in my neighborhood) and offer and outstanding protection and I replace it every 3 months w/o complaint.

Thanks for the tips an all but I'd like to know if the screen protector from the otterbox holds back the colors of the screen.
Not really. At least not when they're new. If the screen protector gets scratched up then it may, but they're pretty transparent right out of the box.

IMO it does take away from the screen. I used one for several months and when I took it off to clean it I noticed how much it dulls the screen color and sharpness. I ended up getting the otter box commuter and can now enjoy the great screen on the S4.. But if you are hard on your phone you can't beat the protection the defender gives you.
I have the otterbox defender and scratched the built in screen protector badly after only one week. I unpeeled the cases plastic lens (double sided stick tape) and just put an ordinary 1 time use screen protector on my phone. They fit very snug together and seem to work the best for touch response and all of the other no touch scroll stuff.

I too have a defender. Unless their screen protector is damaged there isn't much of a difference in clarity. I managed to dent mine in two places which caused a slightly rainbow effect at those points but mire annoyingly two bumps that I constantly ran my finger over.
I purchased a few xtremeguard screen protectors for $1 each, popped out the defender plastic piece, and voila good as new. Plus if anything happens, I have extras.

About Otterbox Defender case
I've brought the Defender case over the weekend so far it's really good how it hugs the phone and rubber not being flimsy or loose. The built in screen protector does take away from the screen clarity but it's not as bad as the some screen protectors that have a matte finish (anti glare). I've gotten used to it and does not affect the sensitivity of the touch screen. Only con so far is the home button cut out dust can get in there especially if you're always around a dusty environment it can be annoying having to take it apart to clean under it.

I know youre asking about the otterbox but I thought id throw this out there. You might to check out the trident kraken ams. It has a built in screen protector and it doesnt dull the screen. The only complaints I have about it is it has the dot matrix built in and otterboxs belt clip is better as well. In my opinion the build quality is a ton better plus theyre a bit cheaper as well. Theyre customer service trumps otters as well. I cant stand taking the 4 pictures when dealing with warranty issues.

Disclaimer: I used this screen protector from 11/25 to this review (11/29)
My thoughts:
This product had pretty good looking packaging and helpful tips, instructions, and package content information on the back. I think that it is great that it came with three screen protectors along with an application card and micro-fiber cleaning cloth. The application process was easy and I was able to get almost all my dust bubbles out. I used my fingernail and started rubbing it a bit under the dust bubble and then to the edge and the dust came out. The screen protector fits very well on the phone and doesn’t have a problem with cases. I used the screen protector on my phone with a Fosmon tpu case, Otterbox Commuter case, and the Caseology Matte finish tpu case. This screen protector also comes with a lifetime warranty which is great because if you have a problem then you are covered and may get replacement screen protectors. The screen protector had a bit of trouble with finger prints and grease. The finger prints that were greasy caused a little effect on the screen that seemed to be like dots, but after a quick wipe down it goes away. The screen protector is smooth and you should not have any problems with sliding your finger around the screen.
Pros:
- Cheap price
- 3 pieces
- Lifetime warranty
- Smooth
- Covers every part of the screen except the sensor on the left side of the speaker grill to the camera
- Easy installation
- Great customer service
- Not too thin and not too thick
Cons:
- Not good with fingerprints and smudges (Expected from a clear screen protector though)

Great review. Thank you for all the details. I have to agree with you on all of these points. I actually am on my second pack of screen protectors. I am so grateful you get three in a pack.
I think it's also telling that the only bad things you found was that it's not good with fingerprints and smudges. Unfortunately my screens get really smudged up but I have not found a good way around this. Life happens. I agree this is a very good screen protector. I'm a fan of TechMatte products.
I received my amFilm tempered glass screen protector 3 days ago. The packaging of all the contents came in a hard clear plastic which included:
Tempered glass screen protector
Rear PET screen protector
An alcohol wipe
A dry wipe
6 dust removing stickers
Micro-fiber cloth
Squeegee card
Instructions
Following the instructions, of course I washed my hands to remove any oils/dirt. Tip- I would suggest doing this in an area as clean as possible. TIP: states do it in the bathroom after a hot shower has been running so the steam settles any dust. I've done this on Zagg screen protectors and it works, but I failed to do this which caused troubles during installation.
I powered down the phone and wiped the screen with the included alcohol wipe. Then using the dry wipe i wiped off any excess liquid (which was not very much). I used the micro-fiber cloth to wipe the screen down one more time. Looking a the screen i saw one strand of fiber/dust, which then I used the stickers included which lifted it right off.
Installing the tempered protector was fairly straight forward. I tried to center the screen protector and used the home button to gauge how off center to the left and right I was and if the glass was angled in relation to the top of the home button. I made sure the glass was straight along both sides of the screen and placed it down. You do need to press in the center vertically and horizontally for the glass to set well.
Lifting the glass up was pretty easy using a finger nail, I had to lift it off because debris got under and got attached to the tempered glass. I used the dust sticker again and it removed the debris with ease. Positioning the tempered glass again I got it this time. For some reason the edges of the tempered glass still have this look that the sticky backing isnt completely pressed down. I try for 30sec-1min to hold my thumb on these areas and it comes back. That look when an air bubble is under and it wont get pressed out is the best I can describe.
I'm a perfectionist, this probably caused installing it harder than it should have been.
Yes there is a gap about 3 credit cards thick between top and bottom. I do wish it covered more toward the bottom and under the home button and reaching up between the front camera and earpiece grill.
There is also a gap of about 2 credits from the sides of the tempered glass and my Spigen Hybrid Crystal case. I understand why they did this because different cases grip around the front of the phone differently, so to be compatible the width of the tempered glass is just wide enough to cover the actual screen.
Just wish the tempered glass covered a little more.
The thickness of the amFilm tempered glass is .33mm. This makes the glass just a tad higher than the home button, which makes it nice as its more comfortable when my thumb may be at the bottom and it feels more flush than having the home button raised.
Another thing i notice is the softkeys at the bottom emit a glow just below the tempered glass ends. This annoys me because I feel the glass wasnt properly measured.
The glass is very smooth and attracts less finger prints than without it or on my bare LG G2 screen (having no screen protector).
After 3 days of use, there still are those areas around the screen that will not go away (See photo below). At the moment that is the only thing bothering me. It feels nice and visibility is perfectly clear, touch response has gone unchanged as well.
For the price of $7.99 + free shipping (at the time of me writing this) on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UH8KKA0/ref=cfb_at_prodpg
its not bad and for that price can't go wrong with it. It comes with a rear PET screen protector, which I did not install. So there is extra benefit :good: (I have plans to install a dBrand rear skin).
Feel free to ask any questions.
Here are some pictures of everything described.
I took your advice and ordered one. Thanks for taking the time to review this screen protector. I appreciate it. I'll get it in a couple days. I'm sure it will do just fine. It seems from your description that installing it is simple enough. Thanks again.
I have this. It cracks if you just drop the phone onto a hard surface from like 1 or 2 inches high. Very fragile... They replaced first one for free. I don't know if they will replace the second one. But, I'm happy it's there to take the impact in stead of the real screen..
There are glass sp 0.2-0.25mm thickness for less than $5 on ebay. They work just as well, if not better.
After having seen all of the issues with the glass screen protectors for this phone, I decided that I needed to try something else in the meantime. While I have a Sakai glass one that I ordered from ebay that is due roughly a month from now, I'm not very hopeful for it working. As a result of all of this and the need for a screen protector ASAP, I went with the Spigen screen protectors that I have seen mentioned on here. Having used PET films in the past, I was expecting a huge hassle. Bubbles, cheap feeling etc. Turns out, these worked REALLY damn well, to my complete surprise.
Installation:
Installation was quite easy, much easier than the older thin film screen protectors that I remember. You simply clean the surface of the phone, following the instructions. Place the tabs on the screen protector to help you position it. Then carefully position it properly keeping an eye on the edges and the sensors. It adheres to the screen very much like a glass screen protector does. There are a few small bubbles here and there, but they squeegee right out. I ended up with two permanent bubbles (one by the light sensor and one near the edge). Neither were the fault of the screen protector, both were caused by me rushing and nicking the surface of the screen protector when squeegee-ing the bubbles out. I think I could easily get it on there next time with zero bubbles. Way less hassle than any other attempt I have had with a film screen protector. One complaint I have is that they only included one alcohol wipe (everything else is in multiples), I don't know if I just got unlucky or they aren't thinking. Anyways, I have access to many solvents at work. No big deal for me.
Result:
How does it feel? A bit more plasticy than the usual glass screen protector but otherwise surprisingly nice. It adheres to the curves perfectly with no major bubbles, clarity-wise it is crystal clear. I honestly can't tell it is there. It adheres nicely to the curves of the display without any gaps (other than my nicks at the edge). My Otterbox Commuter case fits right over the top of it with ZERO problems. I was expecting these to be a stop-gap measure until the better glass ones come out but honestly I don't see anything wrong with these as is and would be just fine using these alone. I am not sure about longevity as I just installed it but so far I am actually surprisingly happy with it, especially for the cost. If you are on the fence between glass and plastic. Go with these plastic screen protectors for now and let the manufacturers work out the difficulties of the glass ones. Then you can decide later if you really want the glass one for you phone.

it will get scratched to **** within 2 weeks don't worry. Then you'll have to use another of the 3 that came with it.
Agreed with everything that OP posted, and agreed with the person above. Mine got scratched within a day but I got over it.
I installed one only because I tried three different Temper glass ones and none sealed correctly. I like it so far installed very good, covers the entire screen. So far so good.
I got a soft screen protector from AliExpress. It's a bit tricky to apply at first but once you get the idea it's not so bad.
The screen protector is really good! It's like silicon , doesn't get scratched easily.
Best part? it's 1.4$ each! What else can you ask for..?

Yup good screen protector but it does scuff, so is it perfect no, but one of the better non temper glass protector
I just tried and failed to apply all three. I can't be doing with bubbles or marks on the screen, and who in their right mind decided to put adhesive on a screen protector.
First one too many bubbles, second one, dust, bubbles and scratches, third one, same.
Add to the fact it feels like a ZAGG invisible shield, rubbery rather than glassy.. I will keep it naked from now on.
I have an Xtreme skin skin to install, wish me luck, i'll bloody well need it haha.

I got the dark oak Xtremeskin!
I've put on a tempered glass before, it was kinda bad, lost saturation and brightness, and i got a clear case from spigen, but the case's lips protudes to the center so much that it started to push the screen protectir out!, I eventually removed the tempered glass... Not usre which screen protector to apply on with the spigen case :/
The Spigen Crystal Clear is too thin in my opinion - I killed it within a week. My old Spigen Steinheil Ultra on the S4 was way better. Purchased a CrocFol Premium instead.
Yup I have to change my opinion as well, used it for a bit, scuffed easily, stays clear without the rainbow effect. I had a few defects in my screen protectors, changed them out. Using the otterbox Defender case for now.
1$ tempered glass (rectangular) from AliExpress are perfect of you dont care leaving the top curved part unprotected. No bubbles, no rainbows, no effect on colors\contrast\clarity.
This suggestion might not be a solution for everyone but life is a series of compromises I guess. I've bought half a dozen glass screen protectors(all the ones available on amazon) and several phone cases as I was unwilling to go without a full glass protector on my phone so this is the solution i came up with. Confirmed repeatable, I'm preforming this on my 3rd PH-1(pictures) while i write this. (don't worry, its not because they broke!)
So basically:
Orzero 9H glass screen protector + Poetic Guardian Case
https://www.amazon.com/Orzero-Essential-Tempered-Protector-Replacement/dp/B077XT5V7Z/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1539386003&sr=8-1&keywords=essential+orzero
https://www.amazon.com/Essential-Poetic-Resistant-Protection-Full-Body/dp/B078T3N1S7/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1539386315&sr=8-1&keywords=essential+poetic
The glass protector itself is the best of all the glass protectors i've tried so far but it still has its shortcomings. The glue is applied to the black thin line around the border which is ok on the bottom but the top is too thin. Once installed it "floats" around up top near the camera. NOTE: Eventually the glass gets the spotted rainbow effect in the glass center. Not noticeable once the screens on but some i know would like to know this before hand. Slick glass feel tho, no more finger printy then the factory glass. With a hard press you can move it around and recenter it but im sure eventually it will fall off left alone.
That is where the case comes in. The case is two piece, the bumper that is raised around the screen(inner case), overlaps and has a plastic cheapy protector glued in place.
Clean and apply the glass protector. Clean the edges of the glass protector and ensure its centered. Take the inner case and remove the cheap plastic protector that it comes with. LEAVE THE GLUE on the inner case. Install the inner case over the phone ensuring the protector is centered once again before pressing down around the edges firmly. Install remaining outer case rubber.
You now have an Essential phone WITH A GLASS SCREEN PROTECTOR!! The case is IMO not the prettiest but feels great, easy to grab and grip, cutouts and port covers all work properly, buttons are still clicky. My wife even likes it more then her retired iPhone, and that's saying something
Remember to press against the glass protector at the bottom mainly, if you need to remove the inner case so it does not lift.
Hope this helps those PH-1 owners who wish to enjoy the security of a glass screen protectors. :highfive:
Poetic's glass screen protector also works with the Tudia Glost case. I think that was posted in the cases thread some time ago. That's the combination I'm using now. So far the Poetic screen protector has stayed on very well. It has the same rainbow issue when the screen is off, but like you said, you can't see it when the screen is on.
Ya, i avoided that case since lots of reviews about the back cracking upon dropping it. Haven't seen the peotic brand glass protectors either but im sure this works with any protector and case with similar designs
