Hello all,
So I'm getting desperate.
I've tried everything I can think of but I'm positive my Infuse is dying. I've reset it to factory, rooted it to remove junk apps, flashed a custom rom and kernel, etc, etc. The problem is every few hours or days it will simply stop responding. I can hear the beep when I go to unlock it or turn an alarm off but the screen stays blank and the only way I've found to fix it is to remove the battery and reboot (especially annoyng if I'm using it as an alarm clock and have to remove my case, take the back off and remove the battery to stop the alarm.
Anyone have any ideas?

not enough info.
if you post questions..include the rom, the history, the build, the modem etc
you may be getting the infamous SOD (screen of death) - some app or kernel conflict. Touch response will stop. If you hold the power putton for 20-30 sec, the device will reboot without battery pull.
possible solution: find conflicting app or kernel
use different rom + kernel
use stock gb
use stock froyo
Oh I thought I mentioned. It's a stock rom ( that I rooted with one of the one click tools or Goomanager I'd have to check which) I have CWM recovery 2.5.1.3 Voodoo lagfix installed but everything else is stock but for the root
Either way the only way to get out of these freezes is to take the battery out. Holding the power button down does squat (believe me I've tried all the usual tricks)
Modem wise I can't remember and will have to see if I can find it tommorrow usingthe one click tool it's a USA phone on AT&T if that helps,

Running stock with voodoo. .. if you get sod, it could be from voodoo mismatch.
You can try:
Back up your info
Find voodoo folder in sdcard..delete
Under settings/privacy.. factory reset.
Go to download mode
Odin or heimdall back to stock with repartition
Run as stock unrooted for a few days to see if anything happens
Restore nothing...
If you still see it... it may be hardware
If you don't see it, it's something you installed or restore or file mismatch
You didn't mention but I'll add that you shouldn't add any tweaks. . They can destabilize the os

Have you tried anything to fix this......??
if not just pull batt, hold power and both volume up/down at the same time....when the first samsung logo appears let go of power and continue to hold till you get into recovery. should be like 10 sec maybe 15
wipe data factory reset and you should boot past the loop....if not you most likely have to reflash or use the ultimate unbrick.
mine did this when i deleted the lagfix folder by accident (trying to fee up space) i ended up booting into red recovery and disabling voodo lagfix, rebooted then went back in to recovery and re enabled it.
Im not able to get the recovery to come up, everything is jacked, im trying to track down instructions for that ultimate unbrick..
Ok found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116251&highlight=unbrick but the part where it says make sure your phone is com## in the odin, mine isnt showing up with that?

Did you get this working? When I was running Infused I had to repeatedly do battery pulls and the three button meth. to get the recovery. Should seriously try to get recovery to start before doing a back to stock.
As for Odin recognizing the phone, did you make sure you have the kies with the drivers installed, did you try different usb ports and/or computers caus sometimes the drivers act funky. Have seen other people have problems with Odin and the drivers.
Got odin to work and its back to stock, only problem i have now is when the date/time is set to automatic it sends it completely off the grid, i have to manually set it which i dont like to do, any quick fix to this?
I'm having a similar problem. My phone is bootlooping and my pc and odin are recognizing it, however the issue is that the phone only turns on for half a second before shutting back off, not allowing me to do anything with it. Anyone know of a way to fix this?

Even on stock? Ive seen this problem with custom roms like dlevrom 5.0 but not on stock? Cruise over there and see what he did to fix it. I believe there is a program called fastfix to force the locales to show up with North America. Nevertheless, check your locale and text in settings to make sure if the correct locale for your area is shown. If not there is a program in the market to force the correct one. Sorry, dont recall the programs name. Maybe the fastfix or fasterfix.

Go to either the thread on the Heimdall one click back to stock or the thread on the Unbrickable mod, read up on your download mode access problem and figure which direction to go. Sounds like a soft brick but anything other than a black screen period is salvagable so your all good.

Sounds like the rainbow thing peeps were getting when they used gb leaks with the froyo bootloaders? You are still booting up fine so that is good. Head over to one of the leaks like UCKJ2 or 4 and study first because the gb bootloaders might solve your rainbow but they are to be used with caution, you could brick your phone real quick.

tried installing glorious overdose but I tried to wipe data, and it stayed there for about 10min so i pulled out the battery. i tried a second time but without wiping data (i didnt know WTH i was thinking) so it rebooted and was stuck at boot screen saying create new partition and system not avaliable (sumthing like that) so i decided to try odin so i can go back to stock firmware and it finished and now it stays at the bootscreen blinking i tried recovery im stuck.
before you odin, reinstall the phones drivers on your pc. connect the phone to the pc without the battery, hold the volume down button and the trackpad and reinsert the battery. when you odin, make sure only auto reboot is checked, and put the pit file in the pit slot and the tar file in the pda slot. if you use kies to update firmware, reinstall drivers again before updating.
You may need to check "Re-Partition" in Odin.
shouldnt need to repart, in fact it may be a bad idea. every time i odined and accidentally had repart checked, it screwed something up. most recently the stock messaging app didnt work after odin. i have since switched to go sms, but still made sure i had a clean firmware install. i would try odin without repartitioning first and see how that goes. if something is wrong, you can always odin again. the first time i tried to flash a rom i bricked because i flashed cwm through rom manager. the thread where i found the odin file said make sure only auto reboot is checked. besides, if the rom didnt flash correctly, then it didnt convert any partitions anyway.
ok i had the same problem for the first time i tried to install a custom rom, theres a way that you can fix it with out odin. follow this steps... i promise it will work.
1)boot into the red cwm voodoo lagfix recovery
2)wipe data/factory reset
3)wipe cache partion
4)after all the steps above are completed, go to apply sdcard:update.zip
the its going to take you to the regular cwm once there follow this steps...
1)install the custom you want to install, but make sure that it doesnt need special mounts and unmounts, so follow the instruction flash the rom and it should fix it
Heimdall worked perfectly when I bricked my phone.

I tried the method above but ater reboot it stays on the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G boot screen and does nothing else. I'm hesitant and Flash Bootloader but what do you all think?
flashing bootloader in that package doesn't break it.

This is my current problem as well, except I have tried checking flash bootloader and have also tried Odin, but all to no avail. Can anyone help me? This is my situation:
I've had my sidekick for about a year now and have gone through the typical problems of a sidekick user. Then yesterday, my sidekick's alarm woke me as normal, but I was unable to turn it off because my touch screen wasn't working. So i battery pulled, restarted, and noticed that the screen stayed on the "T-Mobile Sidekick 4g SAMSUNG" start up screen and did not budge. I tried battery draining, more battery pulling, and nothing worked. So i did a lot of research on here and other websites and decided to use Odin. After initial problems of a newbie, I eventually figured it out and got it to RESET and PASS, but the subsequent reboot only caused my phone to be stuck in the same Sidekick start up screen it has been getting stuck in. Similarly, after many tries, Heimdall has done the same for me. Sorry if that was a long read (also, I hope its cool that i bumped this thread with my own problems), but is there anything else i can do? I'd really like to use my phone again..
I've been working for hours trying to figure out how to fix it, and I just don't know. The end result is always just the freezing at the t-mobile start up screen..Also, since i forgot to mention, I can only get into download mode with the volume down+trackball method because otherwise it would just go to the regular start up screen and freeze. I don't know if that means anything, but yeah.
Have you used heimdall yet? I bricked my SK4G the other day when flashing a rom and heimdall put it back to stock within 5 minutes of me bricking it.
Thank you for replying. Unfortunately yes, I did. With flash bootloader unchecked and checked. It says it disconnects after everything is done and it restarts, only to become frozen at the start screen again =/. I don't know if there is some silly detail that im missing that makes the flash rather than just restart, but all i can manage to make it do is restart.
Sigh. Guess im going phone shopping.
How did u get the phone in dl. Mode
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA
I had to plug the phone into my computer without the battery, hold volume and the track ball, then pop the battery in. Any other attempts would simply start it up/freeze it.
Ok did u have heimdall started first?
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA
And what rom did u last have?
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA
I'm not entirely sure if I had it started first, so I'll try it that way now. And the last ROM that I had? Honestly not really sure what that means =p, but i've never flashed one and I had the most recent sidekick update installed (though it is possible that I had done a factory reset at some point to fix an error).
---------- Post added at 01:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:45 PM ----------
Just tried it. Without flashing bootloaders, it finishes and restarts to my frozen start up screen as normal. However, when i flash bootloaders, it gets to "uploading pit", but the upload fails and it reboots my phone. But this time, it reboots into download mode. A welcome change from my start up screen. Maybe there's hope.
Anyone one else experiencing a stall when rebooting using SKy ICS 4,2F-4.5A?
If I reboot either from CWM or from using the drop down or the power button, the phone hangs up with a black screen and all the LED buttons lit up? Then I have to hold the power button down to do a hard reboot.
I have reflashed numerous times and have come through numerous updates and this one issue persists.

I got the exact same issue, busy box installed, permissions fixed. Tried flashing everything again didn't solve it, kernel etc.
The only thing I didn't try is radio, are you using rogers radio as well?
Also it happens if I just try shut down the phone.
Try doing a backup in cwm, then just immediately restore that backup... often fixes that problem for me on sky ics.

I got it resolved but only by fluke. Flashed 4.2-5b as well as the CYMBALINE kernel (an attempt to resolve bluetooth connection issues) and now everything boots fine.
Thanks
I flashed the kernel without it being solved. I did the backup+restore and I think it seems to have fixed it, I'll do some more checking tomorrow kinda late here but thanks!
Btw after you flashed 4.5a you didn't need to flash b
Had the same problem after doing a fresh 4.2 R2 base install. I let the phone fully cache (5 mins or so) and I tried rebooting to CWM to flash the 5A update and the phone hung on shutdown and my cap lights stayed lit up. I realized I forgot to install busybox after 1st boot-up per the OP instructions. So I held power button for 10secs, rebooted, installed busybox and it rebooted fine into CWM to flash update. Weird, never seen that before.

The issue me and I think also the other guy had was black screen and touch key lights.

This has been answered in the dev thread. Here is the solution . You need to flash it with cwm touch. I have no idea why but with cwm the older cwm you get hung up rebooting or shutting down. It will also hang when fixing permissions. I have also read that twrp was working also.
Cwm touch can be found here half way down the thread.

I went from 4.5a update (fresh base install) to 5b update.
A few details before I start
I am on Galaxy S3 i535 from Verizon, was running CleanROM 5.6 for a few hours after coming from Codename Android that I was using for a few days(I've been going crazy with trying roms lately.)
I flashed LiquidSmooth 2.0 with CWM (never have used odin)
On all of these flashes before i did so I wiped system/factory reset, wiped cache and dalvik cache, and formatted system, cache, and data.
I had just finished flashing Liquid Smooth about an hour ago and was installing a few things with titanium back up. everything up until this point was going fine, got all my apps instaIlled and ready to go, and I head into the settings and try to turn on a few things and edit some settings in the Liquidsmooth settings.
Now my phone is stuck in a bootloop and I'm not sure what to do. I have tried power/volume down, power/home/volume up, power/home/volume down, and nothing will get it to reboot. I dont know whether or not it is safe to take out the battery and start from there, so if that is the route I should take, please let me know.
I have no experience with odin, but I can most definitely look that up so I wont need help there. Just some help on whether or not I should take out the battery or do something else. I just don't want to brick it in any way if that is avoidable:fingers-crossed :fingers-crossed:
Thanks to whoever can help me!
Edit:
I used the search a little better this time and saw people say pull battery on similar cases, and I did that, and I'm still stuck in bootloop. (It seems like in most of the threads I found pulling the battery was a given so people didnt mention it, but I needed to know for sure.) So I am still in the bootloop and am just going to boot into download mode and go from there.
Alright I was able to odin to stock, and now im back to square one.
Not sure how to delete threads :S

OP you are missing the point here. You have to take the battery out and put it back in before going to recovery. Once you have done that try vol-up/home/ power at the same time. Once samsung logog appears look at the top left if you see words release. it will boot to recovery. You can take it from there.
Hi there. I had a stock S4g, had froyo 2.2.1. I Rooted the phone. That went fine. I went to install a new kernel (baliSGS4G) The instal got interrupted, second reboot had the android logo flashing while the normal galaxy s logo was on, so I knew from there it was screwed up...
It booted up fine actually, and i was able to operate around in on the phone, altho the home button didnt work... I went ahead and tried a restart to see what it would do and it would stick at the galaxy s boot screen and the voice would say "restore operation" and just reboot and be stuck on a boot loop...
I CANNOT get into recovery mode UNLESS I remove my sdcard... if I do I CAN... BUT it seems as tho the cwm recover is somewhat useless to me now that the sdcard isnt in.... If I boot into recovery and THEN put the card in, it saws E: Can't mount /sdcard..
Ive tried wipe cache partition, wipe data/factory reset... nothing..
Any suggestions? THankyou!

Try One-Click Gremlin Remover to flash and fix. Found this to be easier than Heimdall for the uninitiated: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500427
1 Open Gremlin remover on PC
2. Remove battery from phone
3. Hold down both the Up and Down on the Volume Rocker
4. Plug Phone into USB (without battery)
5. Insert battery into phone and replace cover
The phone should automatically boot into Download mode, and Gremlin Remover should recognize the phone. This should wipe it back to stock but leave it rooted. Then you can start again. I recommend the SGS Kernel Flasher App to flash new kernels in the future. Much less prone to error.

You might refrain from recommending a different flashing utility (ODIN) when somebody has already started using Heimdall and is just asking for help to finish the process. All you are doing is inviting more problems with driver and USB port issues by doing so. You gave him a simple set of instructions that mentioned nothing about drivers.
And SGS Kernel Flasher is great but it only works properly on our GB ROMs.
