[Q] SIM unlock question - General Questions and Answers

Hi guys,
I paid £2.99 for a SIM unlock code off Ebay for my HTC One X (the seller had 99.6% positive reviews so seemed okay) but it didn't work after trying twice.
When I contacted the seller he told me I needed to unroot, go back to stock ROM and lock the Bootloader. I used the rooting method below and since I didn't flash a ROM I thought this meant I'm still 'stock'.
My questions are:
(1) Since I never flashed a ROM I am still stock, right?
(2) Why would I need to unroot and relock the Bootloader?
(3) How many more unlock attempts do I have?
Thanks in advance for your time.
My rooting method was (i) unlock bootloader (ii) flashed CWM with fastboot command and then installed SU from Zip using CWM.
Phone: HTC One X on T-Mobile (EE) in the UK
Android version 4.1.1

1. Yes if you still using the ROM that came with your phone your still on stock.
2. I don't know why you should unroot and relock the bootloader since i never tried unlocking SIM.
3. You could unlock and relock your phone as many times as you want.

[Q] Will installing custom ROMs on my Desire S lose my unlock.

Hi,
I bought a brand new Desire S today off someone as it was an unwanted upgrade. The phone was locked on Orange UK and the before I bought it off the person they purchased an unlock code and had someone from a shop unlock the phone. The phone is unlocked and works on O2 UK perfectly. My question is if I was to root my device and s-off (which i've only just heard/read about as this is my first HTC) and install custom ROMs via CWM would my unlock still work?
I apologise if this is noob question.
Thanks

SIM unlock and bootloader unlock are two completely different things. You will not lose SIM unlock by rooting / custom ROM installation. Go ahead and have fun.

[Q] Safe to Unlock Bootloader via Motorola Tool?

First off I'm a noob at unlocking bootloaders. This will be my first time. I have rooted, SIM unlocked and flashed before, but never unlocked the bootloader. The reason for unlocking is I want to flash CM 10.1/10.2.
So I recently picked up a cheap Droid Razr HD XT925 Locked to Rogers. I have unlocked and rooted it. It is running jellybean 4.1.2
I have been looking around on how to unlock my bootloader when I came across a handy tool called the Motorola Bootloader Unlocking Program. Unfortunately I am not allowed to post an outside link. So please google it. It supports my device. So far I have downloaded the android SDK and installed my devices latest drivers. Is it safe to proceed? Is it a good idea to unlock my device via this method or consider another method and if so which?
Thanks so much for any help you can give me
It's a Motorola service for a Motorola phone, how would it not be safe?
Go ahead and unlock it.
I unlocked mine 2 months ago, and or was the first time i unlocked a phone and my first smartphone.
Nothing to worry about
Go ahead and unlock it of that what you want.

[Q] Razr Maxx HD w/ unlocked Bootloader

Just purchased an HD MAXX from Ebay and the seller said it has a permanently unlocked bootloader and a custom ROM flashed. I'm upgrading from a Bionic that I rooted, installed SafeStrap and tried a few custom ROMs in the slots. I'm going to have the phone flashed over to Page Plus and the person doing the flashing told me it has to be on stock. The seller told me that the bootloader is permanently unlocked. The seller also told me how the bootloader was unlocked and I read something similar here that if it were unlocked at a certain point, or before a certain update was pushed out, it would be permanently unlocked,
I just don't want to screw anything up trying to flash it back to stock. It's running the TWRP custom recovery. I've flashed ROM's before, I've rooted phones before but from what I understand having a Razr with an unlocked bootloader is something special and I wouldn't want to screw that up. Thanks

The seller is correct. May 25 is dday for the ...79 build that locks the boot.
You do not state your build.
Get the latest twrp 2632 for a pocket proof noob recovery but for a successful cm 11 flash you need philz newest & philz 6079 for some flashes that err 7 on the 619 ver.
926 philz only comes in .img. Get recovery tools to load the img from homescreen. Philz is in the orig dev section.
When in doubt backup.
See my 907 stuff for lots similar things/guides that apply to the 926 as well.

as long as you have the drivers installed on your pc all you have to do is grab one of the utilities from the dev forum and flash it back to stock. there is also an option in there to put the stock recovery back on. its all plug and click.
Thanks guys!
Appreciate the replies and info. My main concern was doing something to possibly "re-lock" the bootloader. From what you're saying I shouldn't have any problems, flash it back to stock, flash it to page plus, flash custom recovery, start trying out ROM's lol
Thanks again!
Once the fuse is blown it cannot be "rearmed". But I've heard that there are couple of those in our RAZR. But I don't think vz or moto are interested in making our phones inoperable.

I can attest to the fact that once you unlock the bootloader, it won't get relocked since it's a physical change (blown e-fuse as others have mentioned).
I have flashed back to a previous stock, took the OTA and the bootloader was still unlocked.
However, never say never and when KitKat comes out for this phone, I will not be quick to install it. I will wait and see what everyone says before I accept it. No way I take an OTA that somehow finds a different way to lock the bootloader.

will flashing stock rom again in unlocked phone lock the phone ?

..I was already told by a friend here that if I again flash a stock rom in my sm-900p phone which I got unlocked for international GSM use (using from India) , it won't get locked again ...with all due respect to the friend who affirmed me already that it won't get locked ,can anyone else confirm that to me please ? I am not able to dare to flash the stock rom....since two days I am just waiting to take that step..presently I am using darkwolf rom but I want to flash with stock rom so that bootloader and modem gets updated and then on that version,I will flash this rom again ..that's my plan
If you mean will lock your bootloader, yes .
It will not lock your network again, if you already had a sim unlock/network unlock, it will remain as that even if you reflash, lock status is in a different memory not in the one overwritten by your ROM.
If you are talking about the bootloader, none of my motorola , samsung or htc devices relockes the bootloader once you have unlocked it, you have to manually relock it if you want to do that by any reason.

How to unlock? New factory shipped Android 6.0.1 - Alcatel Idol 3 6045I

I was wondering if I could get your help with unlocking my Alcatel onetouch Idol 3 (6045I) after having much difficulty.
I've recently acquired this phone from Bell (wireless Carrier in Canada) and the phone shipped new with Android version 6.0.1. As you are well aware Marshmallow breaks fast boot functionality in the boot loader leaving me unable to perform "fastboot -i 0x1bbb oem unlock".
I've attempted to downgrade the phone using "Mobile_Upgrade_Q_5.0.6_Setup"; however after the process was successful and complete, the phone did not downgrade to version 5 of Android. The phone still had version 6 present as it shipped with this version.
Do you have any suggestions about how I could go about "unlocking" the phone as I need to use a sim card from a different wireless carrier.
Thank you very much for your assistance ahead of time.
Unlocking the bootloader using fastboot commands and network unlocking the phone are two different things.
To use the phone with a non-bell carrier, you must buy an unlock code. I suggest looking on eBay for the cheapest and most reliable unlocker.

Thanks for the assistance. I should have been more clear. I'm looking to unlock the phone so that I can install a stock ROM. I'm also looking to unlock the sim so I can use a Rogers sim card. I've now purchased an unlock code from Ebay and awaiting delivery thanks to your suggestion.
You'll have to downgrade using the Panasonic Eluga software to 5.02, unlock bootloader, flash twrp, and custom rom.

Thank you. The Panasonic software worked. This process has been anything but pain free.
Glad you got it to downgrade.
My idol 3 came with 5.02 and never updated it even though the update was available because I like the idea of customizing the rom if I want to.
Where do you find this software ? Do you have a link ?
Because I found nothing...
These instructions may help to downgrade: http://forum.xda-developers.com/idol-3/general/guide-repair-idol-3-t3372076
Thanks
Glad it worked out! Keep a copy of the eluga restore, it had the 5.x version of android inside the download, so now no matter what u can always restore back to a state where unlock+twrp install is possible.
