Family purchase-any problem? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I live outside the US, but I have family there. If I have one of them purchase for me, could they ship it directly to my US shipping address which I keep only for shipping, which is not my relative's address, so I can have it drop shipped to me?
Will there be any problems with address on Playstore purchase? I mean, can you ship to another address than your own, as in this scenario?

I believe you received going to have to buy the international version. Not sure if that's going to be on the play store in the US. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't know about that. Is there an "International" version of the Nexus 4? As far as I know, there isn't. My question isn't about the hardware. It's about the draconian restrictions placed on the Playstore purchases.

Aren't you basically just asking if you can have a separate billing and shipping address on google play orders?
Yes you can!

Basically, yes. I am going to ask my brother to purchase it for me. He lives in the US, but I don't. I am simply asking for that reason, because I am going to ask him to ship it to my US address, and then drop ship it to myself.

If you're in a hurry, then there are a few options:
1. Best Buy + delivery service like http://www.aramex.com/shopandship/default.aspx
2. eBay. Prices are about $730 now, I'd wait a bit.
3. Wait for somebody local to import a load of phones and sell on at higher price.

A lot of friends bought iPhone 4 in Apple store in other country and they recieved it via freight forwarders. It would be strange if Nexus S can be bought in this way, because they will only lower their sales.
According to this review, it will be available in EU in February and it will have lower price than Galaxy S i9000:

Also at that time Samsung will unveil i9100..

Well, if BB don't want my money, then I will happily take it elsewhere. There might be an initial rush, but come January it will not be difficult to get one online, no matter where you live. Well, perhaps if you're on the ISS.
I think you can use site like MyUSABox (http://www.myusabox.com/), but personally I don't have experience with it. Don't know if anyone can comment about the site

Seems pretty unlikely.
I'm pretty sure they are unable to block credit cards by country.
If your credit card belongs to an established network (Visa or Mastercard for example), the payment should go through smoothly.
I'll be placing an order as soon as the Nexus S is in stock at best-buy.com, I'll keep you guys posted regarding the payment.

I find no mention of warranty anywhere at all at Google, eBay or Best Buy. US warranties tend to be short, so I'd guess a phone sold in Greece would have a longer warranty, but at a higher price.

That will probably never happen. If you could buy loads of stuff somewhere at $530, would you sell them on eBay at the same price?

[Q] Q: Where to buy in Orlando, FL (when coming from Europe)?

Hi. Sorry, if the question sounds strange, but I will be visiting the US for a conference for about a week in a week. It seems impossible to order the Transformer from the usual suspects, since they all require a valid US billing adress and seem to cancel the order if that is at a Hotel. Incredible! So it is not even possible to order for store pickup for me.
Has anyone of you any idea if there is a chance to pick up the Transformer around Orlando in a week or how I could place an order for pickup? Doing this from Europe seems to be the problem.
Any other creative ideas on this topic would be much apreciated!
Thanks a million!
I don't travel international, however when I need to ship to a different address I call my credit card company and add the address as an authorized shipping address and they add it to my account so that when the charge is authenticated, it will pass the address check.
Have you done this already? If not, you definitely need to let your credit card company know you are going to be shipping to an alternate address.
Hope it helps.

[Q] Motorola Repair Centre - Won't Ship Back

Hey guys,
So... I bricked my Atrix 2. Like, hard bricked it. Fortunately I am still under warranty. Motorola advised me to send it their repair centre to have it examined. Problem is, it's an Atrix 2, MB865. The phone is only manufactured in America. I'm in the UK. After talking to their customer service, they said if I ship it to them in America, they can't ship it back to the UK. Only a US address. I tried talking it over with Motorola UK, but they said that since they do not manufacture the phone I couldn't give it to them.
Anyone got any suggestions?
-Duzzii
Offer to pay return shipping, or include a pre-paid shipping label they can use to send it back. You'll need their cooperation on this.

Upon using the live chat for customer service, they've concluded by saying I need a US address for them to schedule and repair it. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try on the phone tomorrow. Until then... are there any alternatives anyone can think of?
Did you buy it in the US?
The only other thing I can think of is that you have to have someone you trust to act as a mediator, perhaps for a fee. There's a risk you'll never get it, and they carry the risk of you telling the the item was lost/damaged.

Bought it on Amazon.com, so it's from the US. The think is, it's still under Motorola's warranty. I would consider using someone as a mediator as I'm kind of out of options.
Did the seller ship it to the UK, or were you in the US when you bought it? If they shipped it to you, then contact the seller.

I purchased it from Amazon whilst being in the UK. I have contacted the seller, although it doesn't look like he intends to respond. I'm really out of ideas here...
I assume it's a 3rd party seller on Amazon marketplace. If they don't respond, I think you can contact Amazon directly, at least to put pressure on them to resolve the issue. If sellers behave like bad Craigslist artists, while selling on Amazon, it makes Amazon look bad. I would look into that avenue, 'cause you're running out of options.
Just came across something I'd never heard of, & remembered this thread. There's something called "Package Forwarding," and if you search online, there are loads of companies that do it. Mostly, it's for people who want to buy things from the US, & have it shipped abroad. You'll have to contact some of them to see if they'll fill your need.
Having no personal experience with any if them, though, I can't give any recommendations.
Hope you get this sorted out.

Thank you so much, this seems like it could work. I found a website which allows me to have a physical US address. Only problem is, Motorola require a US phone number while submiting the repair form. I'll try and find a way to sort that out now.

Buying Unlocked Nexus 5

Hey All,
I live outside US where Google Play Store does not sell Nexus products.
I am planing to visit US in the coming weeks, and i am looking for a place (store) where i can buy an Unlocked (Off-Contract) Nexus 5.
Any info/suggestion is appreciated.
EDIT: I guess the appropriate word is Off-Contract Nexus 5.
And I read somewhere that Sprint - T-Mobile and BestBuy are selling Off-Contract Nexus 5 for $449.99.
So the actual question became; If i buy and Off-Contract Nexus 5 from one these sellers, can i just use it with any carrier available in my country. (Neglecting the difference between US and ROW version, since all i need is 3G for now.)
Thanks.

As far as I know they're all unlocked, even when purchased from one of the carriers, but I think you'll get hosed on the price buying from anyone other than Google.
Every single Nexus 5 (or any Nexus in fact) is unlocked. No matter where you get it from. It's just the price that pays for the convenience. You can get one outright from a carrier and say you already have a (insert that carrier's name here) SIM that you'll pop in when you get home. However carriers will charge you ridiculously more then 349/399 for the phone. You can try finding one used that somebody already received, or if you're staying long enough, order one from Google.

If you life in europe I cant recommed buying it from the US because not all that many people know that that there are actually 2 variants of the Nexus 5, one for non-US markets and one for the US. The difference are the 4G bands you wont have LTE with the american version in other parts of the world.

Actually my country (Turkey) does not have 4G yet, it is expected to arrive through the end of 2014. Also people expect the price to be around 800$ in my country. And LG G2 is being sold for around 700$ which puts me in dilemma. I still want the Nexus 5, but i don't think i can stay enough in US to order from Google, and i guess stores like BestBuy don't sell Nexus 5 without carriers.
Could we see non-carrier versions of Nexus 5 in stores in the near future, or would it only be Google keep providing them?
Can buy nexus 5 from Google, carriers or sim free 3rd party in uk
There are no "carrier versions". Theres a US version and a ROW version, both unlocked. That's it

Yes, assuming there are GSM carriers where you are. :good: (GSM carriers use sim cards)
If you're willing to wait, you could have one of your US friends buy the Nexus for you and then ship it over when it arrives. You might not want to wait that long (understandably,) but I just can't justify paying an extra $100 for a phone due to corporate greed.

Right, but the main problem is that i don't think the customs would let the device in. In my country it is forbidden to ship things that cost more than $100, and if they catch it, they are likely to seize the device or just send it back.

[Q] Where can I buy a Nexus 5 in the US?

Hi!, dunno if this is the correct forum but I figured it was either here on in the general Nexus 5 so hope it's right .
I'm in Argentina and will be spending 10 days in NYC during the second part of January. I want to buy a N5 but I'm not sure where to do it since they are way too overpriced in both Amazon and ebay and I can't buy them directly from the play store because it's blocked from my country and I'm not sure what the shipping times would be in case I manage to order it from there once I'm in the US (some friends told me that to buy through the US play store you need a US credit card too).
I know there are some retailers that sell it but do they sell it unlocked or only with contracts with carriers?. Any other options to try to buy one?.
Thanks!.
Check out Best Buy!
Yeah, I checked there and it only has the 16GBs model and ~$150 more expensive than the play store (and even more expensive than the 32GBs version in Amazon which is at around $450).
I think bestbuy just sells sprint version.its locked

Well any store you buy it in is going to have it marked up from the Play Store because that's just how the US is. It sucks, but yeah.
You should find a broker willing to ship it to you from the US. Meaning: you give them money, they buy the phone, they get the phone, they ship the phone to you. Simple!
