Help me buy a new phone - General Questions and Answers

Well it's time for a new phone since my old Galaxy S2 went in pieces on my job.
I have a really dirty and tough job, so phones comes and goes, and always goes in pieces.
There's only one demand i have with the new phone. The bootloader should be unlocked so it's rootable, and preferably able to switch rom and kernel.
There's two phones atm i'm looking at, and it's Galaxy S4 Active or Xperia z.
I noticed that there's lack of Roms for the S4A atm, but that could change in the future? Xperia Z lacks the battery time, but not the end of the world.
Any advice?

Go with Samsung Grand quarto

Hmm never heard about that one. Seems like it's not even available here in Sweden

Hi,
since you have a rough job i'd say go for the more durable - dust/water proof phone, the xperia

I'd get the S4, it's a Samsung and just about every phone of theirs can be rooted and loaded up with something custom eventually.

(Advice please) Samsung Galaxy Mini OR Motorola BackFlip OR SE Xperia X10 Mini

Hello,
I'm not very keen on starting this kind of thread, but comparative information is pretty scarce on the internet.
I'm planning on getting my girlfriend an Android phone soon and I'm stuck between these 3 models due to my budget:
1. Sony-Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini
2. Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570
3. Motorola BackFlip
The Xperia was what she originally saw and liked, but in my opinion its not very good. The Samsung appears to be the safest bet, and the Motorola is something i've just seen 10 minutes ago and seems very good on paper (hardware-wise) but that screen seems too small and the keypad is not something she (or i) would like very much. Plus that flip mechanism i'm sure will not last very long.
Now i turn to you, the community, for opinions. I'm a bit stuck between these. Any input would be great!
Thanks!

The best for me is x10 mini...
1. X10 mini has many stuff u cn do n u cn root it n update to 2.3 cyanogen... Cons: lag of multitouch n qvga
2. Galaxy mini has ginger update too, but i dunt understand too much abt rooting it... Cons: qvga
Best : Able to overclocked to 800mhz
3. Backflip... I tink is lame...
But for a budget hvga fone, i recommended optimus one or x8...

Thank you for your reply. I know about Optimus One and it is superior to those 3 that i've mentioned. Unfortunately it's $35 US more expensive than my budget (my budget being what those 3 cost). This is a spontaneous decision and there is not a lot of money to be spent. She doesnt care that much about the technical side but she would enjoy the apps and everything and i could certainly help her discover more about Android. She prefers the smaller devices as well. So no optimus one.
I might just end up with the samsung. Im still not sure.

My wife has a backflip, I got it for her in July and its been durable but broken a few otterbox cases (just the front piece). The best rom has been cyanogen mod 7.1 even tho it frequently freezes it has performed way better than the stock 1.5 & 2.1 that Motorola provides. If a good phone is above your budget, just spend the extra lil bit. It'll be worth it in the end.

[Q] [Off-Topic] What would you choose? Galaxy Note or Xperia S?

So I'll be changing my phone soon and as the title goes, what would you choose? You can suggest another phone if you want. Thanks people!
Galaxy note

Xperia s or SII (its still good)
One x is also nice, (but its a little iphone-y)...or if you can, wait for the boss sgs3...

I want the Xperia S because of its appearance..the problem is custom ROM's. It doesn't have the same amount of ROM's comparing to Note. I want the Note simply because I'm a student. You jot notes down, things like that. My problem with the note is..the sheer size of the device. Fudging thing is big. XD I can only imagine putting it in my pocket. People think I'm always "Excited". xD Performance wise, is it the same?
@Sir A.cid heeeyyy. About the One X..hmm..Have you tried testing one sir? and the SIII, auhhhh, it'll make me bankrupt. xD if you were to choose, what phone will you go for?
the HTC one X is a pretty good phone too
one of my friends has the galaxy note and i don't see anything special in it... it's just over hyped...
i really have no clue about Xperia S but I do hate Timescape
As far as SGS III is concerned, it's pretty expensive imo...

Both of them have their own pros and cons...
Sgs3 won't be more expensive than what g-note was at launch (around 38k rs, 50rs=1$ approx, do the math)...
Coz samsung knows that sgs3 failed to impress the critics (when compared to one x)...the features, though they are unique, its just a matter of time till others pick it up, since most are just software mods...
So, sgs has good battery, display, unique system mods, and easy way for flashing and stuff (no locked bootloaders or s-off, that's what's assumed from samsung's trend)
While one x has good design, looks, but it doesn't have replaceable battery and a micro sd slot...not to mention that htc's are easier to brick if you don't follow steps correctly...
So, I would say sgs3 over one x, since gs3 will be more popular with the dev community, and one x only beats it in design and looks...
Comparing note and one x, then one x obviously...note's just too big...

just check the One X forums, there's a lot of development going on over there...
No xperia love huh. XD I guess I should wait for the SGSIII and check it at the mall whenever the sgs comes out.
@Avi: Is that with the new S4 processor?
@A.Cid: I sure hope the SGSIII impresses me. The thing looks like a huge Samsung Corby. XD
It looks like a huge "fit"!
Samsung won't let you be anymore disappointed...after all its a flagship!
Hmmm, rumors are there for a quad core xperia coming, that's why no one suggested any of those single/dual core pieces of beauty (xperia looks the best )
But then, if you keep waiting for something more, you'll always keep waiting

[Q] xperia s vs galaxy s2

Basically my phone died n I need a new one and I have some how ended up buying both of these phones and was wondering if there were any recommendations on either I need the phone to last 8-12 months and don't mind attempting custom roms is the xperia s actually that much better and will it last without touching it I like the fact the s2 has micro ad card aswell but one has to be sold off
Oh the s2 is unlocked and the xperia s is orange locked
I prefer Galaxy S II....although its an old phone, it still gives tough competition to others and it has many CUSTOM ROMS and other stuffs too...that's the benefit of older phones.
While as go for XPERIA S if you like HD Display and Quad core CPU..etc.
Its your choice...

Yeah that's what I was thinking but will it still be decent in like 8 months or so where as the xperia s might last a bit longer

[Q] What is the best android phone to upgrade to???

I own a sony ericsson arc s at the moment and am due an upgrade soon but cannot decide on what phone to get. I love my sony and i have used sony ericsson over the past 10 years (i think its time for a change). I found my arc easy to mod/upgrade even with a locked bootloader and would like my next phone to as easy. There are a few excellent phones out like the xperia z, htc one, samsung s3 and s4 and the nexus 4. Does anyone own any of these phones if so what are your opinions. Should i jump ship or stick with good old sony??? I have read reviews on many phones but need to get proper users thoughts.
Any thoughts, reviews, ideas are appreciated.
Cheers
Phil

All the mobiles you've mentioned are excellent phones which are easy to upgrade/mod.
They are in active development. But the new phones which are released (about to be released) are excellent in terms of all features and devs are working hard for custom firmwares and other deep options. So it depends on your personal choice. Anything you own depends on your own personal likeness.

So Long ...

So long one s we had a few good times and a few bad times THE BEST DEVS DID THEIR BEST thanks. S4
I actually never had a bad time with my One S, I got plenty of happy memories here in the past two years really. In my personal opinion, it's the only phone on XDA in the history got so much love but not a flagship product!
When you look at other phones in the middle line or low-end model, they never got so much supporting like us. The devs here is always very work hard for us.
I agree with you two. but I guess the time to move on is getting closer as @bilial_liberty doesn't have the one s anymore. so does @pirlano. I only wish to see the completion of the sense 6 Rom. the devs have been doing an amazing job
I've got a Sony Z1 Compact already but I will continue to use One S as a spare phone(still using it daily) one more year until HTC One Mini 3 or Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini come out in the next summer to replace both of my Z1c and One S, because I love and prefer small phone.
Huh? @bilial_liberty and @pirlano doesn't have the One S anymore(I've heard @pirlano got a broken screen or touch panel)? What's the phone are they using now? If someone here don't need his One S anymore, should send to @bilial_liberty or @pirlano and let them continue the development with this beautiful phone.
Yup, my wish is same with you. Now I only want to see the completion of the KK Sense 6 Rom and let One S to finish his last mission.
