[Q] Nvidia Shield WiFi Problem, After Root. - Shield Q&A

Hello Recently got my shield and after rooting it (properly, Followed the xdadevelopers YouTube video) My wifi just goes in and out of use. And if I try to reconnect it just sticks at "Connecting..." It also says I have a Bar of wifi, when i'm literally next to it. I've tried two routers and no hope. Before the root it did work like a charm. Anyone else having this issue and/or have any idea how to fix it? - Edit: I believe it's my modem, but i'm not positive. (It's been causing issues all month...)

Root did not affect my wifi.
My concern now is to keep rooted after the big update of 28th october. I want to use my PS3 Dual Shock controller wirelessly with the new "console mode"!!!

GTA Released?

Sorry if this is old but my computer crashed and I have been down for about 2 weeks now. Has GTA III been released for the TF yet?
nope ,as far as i know there is not even a release date set. I must ask though , if your computer died, have you not just been able to check on your transformer

No when my computer motherboard went, I decided to upgrade everything including my wifi modem, and router. And I have been working 12 hour days for the passed week, and work doesnt offer wifi. And for some damn reason even thou I have a rooted Inspire with wifi tethering on it, my TF just sits on the obtaining IP address and never connects. Wonder if I have to wifi tethering on my TF also to be able to connect to my phone.
Setup the tethering on your phone without any security first to test...
cant wait!

[Q] ics 4.0.4 stock ROM wifi stops working

On my completely stock xoom, running the latest build, the wifi stops working after a time (not *sure* how long, but let's say an hour or two). After the wifi has stopped, the tablet will not locate any network (AP) nor will it detect them on the wifi analizer app, with shows all the networks in range and their channels and strengths. The app shows no network activity, which I know to be incorrect. However, after I reboot, all is well... until it fails again. When 8t fails, also, turni g the wifi off and back on again does not fix the wifi (that being a solution I found on other tablets running ICS... any ideas what this can be? Thanks in advance!

Man, if you are rooted, then I can help you better. With stock, it is very limited control that you have over your device. It is easy to root and install custom ROM that will fix most of your problems.
I was actually hoping for a solution that did not involve rooting
I was actually hoping for a solution that did not involve rooting the device. The tablet just came back from Motorola after being repaired for a defective screen. I was thinking that there may be a software problem in the build installed. If this is not a problem that is common on this device, then perhaps there may be a hardware problem, although it does not seem to act that way. . .
Can you do a factory reset?
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium HD app
Yes, that was one of the first things I tried, as that is also the first thing customer support tells you to do. I honestly think that is the only tool they have to use.....
Perhaps its hardware related then. If you aren't rooted then send it back to Motorola.

Google or Zyxel? WFi issues on Android devices only

The Problem: WiFi disconnects every time i am barely downloading anything or just watching youtube, and re connects, and so on.
WiFi Modem: Zyxel P-2812HNU-F3
Ever since i bought Galaxy Nexus back in December 2011, I have had WiFi issues 24/7. I thought it was a hardware problem, but then i went to my friends house and tried his WiFi and it worked great. He had a linksys modem while I had Zyxel. Back then i honestly didnt think that the Zyxel modem could be the problem. Thats because i had Galaxy S 2 before Nexus and that phone worked great. But SGS2 was on 2.3. So i thought that Google ****ed up when they released ICS. I still do, for some of us. If you have the time, please look at this thread in Galaxy Nexus forum, where we discussed the problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386884
Long story short, i tried changing lot of things in router but nothing worked. When 4.1 was available for my Nexus, i downloaded it without even thinking that there might be a WiFi fix because i had given up on WiFi. I used 3g until 4.1 was out. Anyways, a few days after i had installed 4.1 i turned on WiFi and run a test in Speedtest app. Speed was great. But the thing i worried about was WiFi being disconnected. So i tried downloading a gameloft game and no diconnect. The whole game downloaded fine. But after a few hours later i noticed after downloading some movies it sometime disconnected and reconnected. I was mad at google again. But JB was much, MUCH better then ICS. Atleast i can use my WiFi now. Sometimes it works, other times it wont.
Yesterday i got my Transformer Infinity. This device is on 4.0.3. The first thing i did when setting up device, was downloading speedtest. I ran it, and it had the same problem that ICS on my Nexus had. I began to search again why this happens in ICS. I downloaded WiFiFix manager but that didnt help at all. Many other zips and apps didnt help either. So... Today, or tonight i opened up router page and started changing wpa2 to wps, like i did months ago for Nexus. But nothing helped. Then i wanted to try omething i havent done before, so i changed 802.11b/g/n to g only. Now WiFi works greta on my Infinity and Nexus. No disconnects at all! (lol i so hope that this is a permanently fix)
I dont know how that will effect my other devices, mostly PCs. So is this a Zyxel issue or Android? WiFi with n works normal with my PCs and other android devices. This must be because of 4.0+, right? I dont think its a hardware issue at all because my Infinity behaves same way.
Should i stay on 802.11g or is there something i can do to fix my devices to work with 802.11n?
Or is there a way i can enable 802.11g for Infinity and Nexus only, and use 802.11n for the rest?

[Q] WiFi errors on the One S?

Ok, this is a strange one.
My wife got an Telus HTC One S (running stock ROM, I think it's ICS 4.0.3, might be 4.0.4) yesterday, and we've been having no end of troubles stemming from the WiFi.
First, we tried to install Swype over WiFi, and the download bar kept getting stuck at around 10%. Switching to the 3G network allowed us to install it. We figured it might be a Swype issue.
Then we started grabbing some apps from the App store over WiFi, and everything kept throwing the error "Package File is Invalid". We tried over 3G, and it worked fine.
Remembering some troubleshooting I had to do with my Galaxy S and its wonky WiFi, I set up the HTC to use a static IP. This worked, but only temporarily. After a few apps were downloaded, it started throwing the same "Invalid" error.
The general advice around the web seems to be clearing the Play store cache/data, and uninstalling its updates. We have tried that multiple times, with no luck. Besides which, the store works over 3G, just not WiFi, so I doubt it's the store itself.
We have two other Android devices in the house, running Gingerbread 2.3.3 and Honeycomb 3.2. Both of them can download fine over the same WiFi connection.
Because of this, I'm pretty sure it isn't the Play Store (since it works on 3G), nor the WiFi itself (since it works with other phones). My best guess is either the HTC One S's WiFi hardware is faulty, or it has a software/firmware bug.
Any ideas?
EDIT: At some point during this process, we also made sure to update to the latest firmware (1.84, I believe), just to rule that out. The firmware also kept saying it was corrupted if I downloaded it over WiFi. I had to download it over 3G to install the update.
you could try a custom rom, that might fix your issue, but void your warranty

Yeah, with a one-day-old phone, that's not going to happen yet. If it's hardware, we'll be getting it exchanged this weekend.
oh well yeah. if it's still within the exchange period then do that

Heh, that's the plan. I've been searching around trying to figure out if this was maybe a known problem for this phone, though, or a software issue that people knew how to fix. Doesn't look like it.
Thanks, though.
it could be a bad wifi chip or a fault in the antenna. probably just a hardware issue. defective electronics, the bane of the modern era

So we exchanged the phone, and have the same error on the new one. We took the second phone back and tried it on the store's WiFi, and it works there. So it looks like it's an issue with our WiFi network. But that's insane, because we already have two Android devices on the same network, and those work fine.
Are there any known incompatibilities with ICS and WiFi networks? I'm pulling my hair out here.

Same problem here, galaxy s2,after playing around with some custom roms,i went back to stock generic ics and now I have this ptoblem,i realised that on mobile data works perfect, my wifi is from virgin media, but 7 months while it was not rooted it did not have this problem at all. I have to mention that it doesn't happen to all apps from the matket.also once I got "nit enough memory" error which is hilarious. I don't know what is,but I will try to download the apps while I am out connected on other wifi ntw
if it's occured on multiple phones, i reinstate my opinion that you should attempt to root and flash a custom rom
For example I can't install blood brothers (not that I need it,just because I get points on money factory),but can install angry burds and a b rio which are bigget than the tirst one

Yeah, I don't really want to do that to my wife's phone when it's this new.
Luckily we found a workaround, by daisy-chaining our old router into the current one, and connecting the WiFi through the second one. Not ideal, but it works.

[Q] Wifi XOOM 4.1.2 Wifi stuck in "Turning On..." state

Hi all,
I'm having a problem in turning WiFi on the Motorola Xoom with 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. The device stays stuck at the Turning on State and doesn't connect, I've let it sit for 7 hrs in the same state. I have done many things in through out these forums and have had no luck. I have done the fastboot -w and also done manual factory data resets, I also have rooted my device, by using a modified system image and a boot image over the 4.1.2 upgrade. I got this tablet in a trade with the knowledge that the WiFi worked at some point between GB and ICS. I am a software tester at Motorola and I have had much experience with mobile devices for almost a year now. I have ran radio and system logs on the loaded production builds and have found no discrepancies between my Xoom and other fully functional Xooms. I've even thought it was possibly a bad RF connection and opened the back of the Xoom and found that there is no issues there. I thought maybe buying a micro PCI network adapter would do the trick but nothing. I have successfully tethered using Bluetooth from my rooted droid 4, but this doesn't seems to fly with games by Gameloft. When booting Wild Blood for instance, after the initial licence check, the game requires to download the rest of the data through WiFi, and thus my problem begins. I even put the qawifionlymode.txt on the root of the internal SD card storage area (with appropriate capitalization and such) and nothing. Any help would be much appreciated.
Best Regards,
ArchAngel70120
Found out the problem
Hi all again, I'm updating this thread for anyone who passes by and wants the help I needed. Being that I work at Motorola I found the project manager for the Xoom tablets and had him take a look at it for me. He said that the problem wasn't with the WiFi, but the subsystem that controls the WiFi, he said that it was defective in this unit and that it was out of his hands to repair, when since this is the case I am out of luck But that's my case, if you have warranties, use them in this situation. You should be able to get either a refund or a replacement. I'm gonna go get my hands on another one now
Good luck everyone,

I was able to repair this state by wiping cache and formatting to factory settings.
I am using
Jellybean 4.1.2 XXLS8 ROM SGS2 GT-I9100
The wifi got stuch when i switched to data network mode and wifi got disabled automatically. Now it is working fine. might come in handy for anyone with same issue.
