Best waterproof case? - Galaxy S 4 Accessories

I just bought the http://waterdawggear.com/collections/wetsuit-case-for-samsung-galaxy-s4. Seemed like it would be a very spectacular case, and competitively priced as well...it was to good to be true. I received it today and it's terrible. I can go into detail in a bit, but I'm on the search right now.
What are some waterproof cases that are exceptional and are there plans for newer ones coming out in the future?
Side question : I bought this phone from a third party individual, does my insurance through att cover this phone? Thanks guys

For even cheaper knockoff waterproof cases, try ebay. I have one of those for $15 and it's definitely waterproof although the screen protector is not completely flushed against the screen so you have to put a little more pressure on the touch and also decrease txting accuracy.

I have and am using the same knockoff. It's kinda annoying with the touch sensitivity. It is workable until my money tree grows. If you have the funds I would go with the lifeproof fre. Otterbox also has one that's gonna come out soon.

I don't see anything being better than my OBEX. Had my first drop last night and all it did was bounce! Also, it doesn't add much bulk at all. Another advantage to this case is the rubber pieces on the back that keep it from sliding around. I've had the OBEX for about a month now and have not found the first disadvantage.

Hey op, what is so bad bout the case you bought? Not waterproof enough? If it sucks please share the details. Might save someone lots of money and headaches.

I would not trust any cheap or generic waterproof cases that my two cents.
What is everyone doing that the cases need to be waterproof???

I have the OBEX too. It definitely protects the phone, but I have to disagree with the "keeping it from sliding around" part. The OBEX is just plain slippery, particularly in my hand. Most of the soft surface is on the inside of the perimeter edges. It helps when you hold the case in your hand, but the back is hard and slippery. I wish the front and back faces had more soft material - it would really help.
I want to use this case daily, but it makes my phone a little too big for my taste. For now I just use it for special circumstances.

6 year old and 3 year old. Need drop protection and waterproof. My lifeproofed iPhone 5 had dents all over the case and survived throws into puddles, etc. Came out of the case 10 months later in mint condition.

Bought a cheap hard shell case on ebay for about $2. SPOILER I love it

So I was browsing ebay for cheap hard shell cases for a DIY project when I stumbled upon these cheap cases. I bought a couple and they got to me from China to Los Angeles as early as 4 business and one case lagged behind and arrived 8 business days later. Overall shipping was really fast. Overall the cases are really nice and snug but one thing that stood out the most was it's very easy to remove from the case. With the Ringke Slim Case, I would worry about scratching the chrome bezel but this thing pops out like a charm yet it snug enough for me to not worry about it coming out on its own. Will i the phone pop out if I drop it? Doubt it.
These cases are super slim and you can actually see the Nexus logo through the case. It's not noticeable unless you look for it and even then, it's very faint but that just gives you the idea of how slim it is. The plastic feels close to what the rubberized plastic feels like on the nexus so it feels good in the hand and actually feels like a premium case in my opinion. I own a couple Ringke cases, a poetic bumper, and various flip cases and this $2 case is my favorite out of them all. For those who have the Ringke case and a back skin protector, you'll notice two lines streaming down the back, this doesn't cause that. I have the Best Skins Ever skin protector on the back and have no issues with it. I do not have a front screen protector so I can't comment on how it would act with one. Now of course there are some minor annoyances defects with this case, it's a cheap $2 Chinese case, but the pros greatly out weigh the cons and they are only cosmetic. The one thing that this case has that stands out for the rest is that it has a cut out for the sim tray, something I haven't seen on any other case and may or may not be a downside. For me, I don't mind. Also pushing the power button may take some getting used to but it's not an issue. Other than that I love the hell out of this case and I'm glad I bought a bunch and it has a logo-less design! I'll upload some pics below.
Pro's
*No Logos
*Feels premium
*No streaks on the back of the phone like Ringke
*Cheap
*Fast shipping
*Super lightweight and thin
*Doesn't interfere with back skin protectors
*Has a rubberized plastic feel
*Looks amazing in person
*Sim tray cut out
Cons
*Very minor cosmetic blemishes
Tl;Dr: Overall I love it more than any other case I have bought including the slim Rearth case. Definite buy. For something $2 it definately feels better than those $10+, $20+ cases
pics
http://imgur.com/a/mLGsE
In one of the pictures, you'll see a little bit of excess plastic and there's a seam that runs along side the case. You can't feel it but you can clearly see it. Those are the only cosmetic blemishes and can me remedied easily.
thanks for the review! for me the biggest con's that I've picked out right away are the lack of protection for the top and the bottom of the phone, rendering it 1/2 way useless, considering 1/2 times the phone drops on it's top/bottom. I might have looked at the case wrong, but from the photos, it seems like there are only sides and back protection.

Yeah the top and bottom are exposed and for some reason imgur only uploaded half the photos I wanted. This is my personal opinion on the case and I can see how the top and bottom exposed would be an issue for some. It completely went over my head on that part. For ~$2 I would still pick one up to play with. Originally this was meant fit a diy project but it won me over as a plain case

Any known thin rugged cases

Any thin rugged cases that have the otter protection. .im sure its a far fetched chance, but that would be cool if a company could make a thin case that has the material to be durable as otterbox defender. ..
I like the cases that have front and back covers that keep the screen inset some for ground impact clearance.

Ya ....looks neat but nah ill pass on that one..
To me it looks like it would keep marks of the edges/bezel if slightly bumped ot dropped but I bet a waist height drop to concrete.... the impact would flow right thru it and crack or worse shatter a screen
I like the cases that over lap the top notification area and home key, and are raised above screen.... essentially like otter defenders do...
I Guess im more into the rugged cases .
I wanna be able to toss my cell on a coffee table or /car dash or drop it from 4 feet " if an accident like that happened as the unfortunate ones that by skinny cases do .....and not have to get super pissed or raise my blood pressure thinking for them two seconds what damage did I do

Wasnt expexting anything thats why I said in op its probably a far fetched idea I knew this , but was worth a shot to ask, im not a noob to phones or cases I have a drawer full, It just pisses me off lol these company's cant think like some of us.. and build a case like we think they should... if anyone can otterbox can.
He'll id pay 100 if a case was thin as the s4 and had the otter protection. . Maybe aome space age carbon or kevlar material. ..
Think if the iPhone beetle shell case that's what kind of design im getting at... I despise open face cases what's the use on protecting a bezel or side when the screen counts for everything ..

Received it today; first impressions...it fits like a glove, but it's easy to put on.
The silicone is the inner shell so it doesn't attract any dust. The plastic outside shell has a nice texture and isn't slippery. The only rubber parts which can be seen are the"enforced"edges, which serve the purpose of protection and makes sure that your screen never touches anything when laid down on its face and a narrow ring around the screen. The case however doesn't have covers for the ports(usb, camera, headphone and speakers) I had the idea that it would come with a screen protector, but my dead brain cells must have misunderstood the description. It comes however with a protective cover which also serves as a stand. It feels sturdy and with it on, your note is well protected, it makes however quite heavy like a brick.
The "phone"still fits in my hand, but that is without the cover attached.
All in all I'm quite satisfied with this case it will protect my note well and the design is not too shabby either.
I'll give y'all an update in two weeks.
Cheers my friends.

thanks for sharing your impressions and the pictures. i am very tempted to pick one of these up myself. I got a simple/cheap flip case to hold me over temporarily, but to be quite frank, I am too damn clumsy not to invest in more serious protection for my electronic devices.
Note 8 is my first case, so was curious how such a sturdy case felt on the device. Ballistic basically won over my loyalty two smartphone ago...had the equivalent case on my Atrix, and one day while running to catch a bus my phone fell out of my pocket and when flying, slammed into the asphalt of the highway/street i was running across hard enough to bounce three times and make it halfway back towards the other side of the street. I was horrified, went to retrieve it... not one single scratch, not one sign that anything had happened, just nothing. Those massive corners do their job, is all I have to say...
Hoping the case for this device is as reliable.
I can highly recommend this case, after two weeks of using, it has been nothing but good to my sweet note. The case and the stand feel sturdy, and when the note is my bag, the cover protects the screen...good stuff and a hell of a lot cheaper than the otter box.

Official Lifeproof - launch page...

No release date yet...

Enjoy.
I have the knockoff version of lifeproof. If the real one is better, outside of the feel of the case in your hand, I imagine it will be better than the seidio obex.
The sound solution of the fake lifeproof is better than the seidio obex.
The case on the fake one hasn't been dinged up like the seidio obex.
And lastly, the fake lifeproof's cheap screen hasn't been scratched up by anything and I drop it in with keys all the time.
Here is my review with some photos of the fake one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2427099
The real one seems to have a real button over the home as opposed to the fake. I hope the side volume and power buttons are more responsive. I imagine that it will have a warranty like for the iphone 5 - I also imagine it will have better quality plastic/rubber/tpu than the fake one.
I'm excited. Trying to decide if I am going to drop what will probably be another 80 dollars on another waterproof case.
Dammit!! lol I literally just ordered a love mei case. Oh well I'll get it and keep it until this one comes out. Hopefully they release this case a lot faster than they did the s3 one.
Sweet very stoked about this.

Well, the obex feels really nice in the hand. It's shaped nicely and has a good rubber part for gripping. In regards to design in shape and form factor, I think obex is better.
But I know that obex has some sound distortion issues and albeit it might be the case for all waterproof cases. I have the a fake lifeproof and it doesn't have any sound distortion, it might be not as loud, but it doesn't have this vibration / buzz with high pitched noises. The obex can play most music without problems but my higher pitched notifications sound weird.
I expect lifeproof to offer a limited device warranty like they do for the iphone 5 cases, which seidio doesn't have.
Both are going to be otherwise the same in regards to drop rating(2 meters - mil 810-f/g) and waterproof rating (ip 68).
Outside of aesthetics and the feel of the case, the lifeproof will have the warranty and better sound solution. You may prefer the obex because it "feels" better. I don't know about the durability of the case or screen protector yet of the lifeproof, but the obex's screen protector can get damaged rather easily and the case can get buffed and scratched up / permanent creases easily as well. The later being more of an aesthetic thing. However, you do have to treat the obex with some care. Lifeproof may be the same way.
I'm not sure if you can install the nud with a screen protector on, if not your screen obviously is at risk of scratch damage.
It sounds like it will be a nice case but there is a whole lot of speculation going on. "Expects" and "guesses" aside, it will be interesting to here an unbiased review once the actual case gets released. This is definitely not an attack against the OP, because everyone has an opinion and a user experience, but i think it is important to keep speculation separate from fact. And, anyone that has read the OP's opinion on the OBEX case (in one of the OBEX threads) can definitely tell bias (and that is OK, we all have our favorites). At this point I'm going to wait for the case to be released and see how it actually preforms in direct comparison to the OBEX and other similar cases. And because it hasn't been released yet, that can't be done yet.

Obex:
Fact: Keys in pocket + case + 1 day = scratches on case, abrasions / creases on the screen protector.
Fact: 1 day at the beach = 1 or 2 sand pock marks = it must have got a few granules on the screen and somehow the pressure of being against my wallet pressed those granules into the protector.
I doubt I could do a direct comparison to OBEX. So you're right, it is definitely a "bias" based on poor performance that I admittedly would never put another 80 dollar case through. LOL.
I am certain that my review caused the vast majority of the users here to treat their OBEX more carefully than before, and they are having a great/better experience than myself - which is good.
OUTSIDE of the above - the following is opinion that I really don't think is biased. In regards to the sound and the warranty, I think there is enough of a track record that those two things will be true from prior models.
The sound solution and the warranty is what I base what Lifeproof's advantage will be over the seidio.
I believe the lifeproof won't feel as good in the hand as the obex.
As I said before, I don't know about the materials otherwise. I consider these to be equal until proven otherwise.
Anyone use the case on the s3? How long did It take to scratch the screen to hell?is it replaceable? If not maybe better off to get the nudde model to change out the screen? They should use glass!!!!!! Oh well someone will come out with one and is WATERPROOF

It would sit on top of the glass (just as if you had no protector at all). Don't mean having the glass shape around the case.

I understand that it sits on top of it but look at the shape of all glass screen protectors. They go down to the home button. The home button part of the lifeproof or seidio obex would be in the way.

I'm hoping it'd work like it did at the end of this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2FEdzsSuqY). And there is the possibility the vitreo may work well for what you're suggesting.

Obex also has a 1 year warranty for their case as well right? So whats so different about lifeproof? If you are talking about covering the phone if it gets damaged they don't do that anymore.

it's a device warranty with a deductible.
http://www.lifeproof.com/en/total-water-protection-program
It's 1 year probably because wear and tear render the case less water protective over time. The snappy ends that the obex have are similar to the lifeproof.
There is a seal at the bottom created by a foam like waterproof insert against the bottom entrance for the lifeproof iphone 5 variant.
The obex has a rubber plug like mechanism.
Personally, I know how the liefproof feels in the hand because my wife has one, and my friend has one for the GS3, unless there's a major design change with different mats (which I doubt looking at the picture). The obex definitely feels better in the hand.

I don't think it will work well with a waterproof case this way bc it will mess with the structure and integrity of the case for its waterproof purposes that it was specifically engineered to do.

Yes but considering it'd most likely work with a plastic screen protector and the fact that the nano and feather are basically that thin. It might be possible.

I hate otterbox's.. It's nice they replace damaged cases but they are bulky and lame.. I'll take a bumper

I was just about to ask if anyone has found a bumper case for this thing. This phone is already so big and fat that it needs a bumper so as to not make the bulge in the back any thicker.
Sorry i cant post links yet...
Www dot otterbox dot com /en-us/moto-x-pure-edition/defender-series-case/mot2-moto-x-pure-edition.htm
Now has the box in stock. I ordered one today.
I cant even count how many times Otterbox has saved my phone. I wear the belt clip and work outside year round in Florida. Heat, rain, humidity etc. Lifeproof fell apart in 6 months otterbox going strong 2 years later.
I literally drop my phone 3 times a week from the side of a forklift a box truck a loading dock and pick it up dust it off and keep on rolling. They may be ugly but they work damn well.
The real question is where in the heck is the Commuter case!? They just lost my business to this http://www.incipio.com/cases/smartphone-cases/motorola-smartphone-cases/motorola-moto-x-pure-edition-cases/dualpro-case-motorola-moto-x-pure-edition.html
Thanks for the link... I'm definitely not going to get the Otterbox case
I don't think this phone is huge by any means but I did just come from a nexus 6 lol. .
I like the supcases, they are cheap and offer good protection, the heavy duty version is way slimmer then a otter box.
I got this on Amazon for $8 to hold me over until a better case comes out. It does the job and protects it pretty good. I wish it was a little snugger fit, but it'll do for now.

I had one like that for my old note 2, if the case was more snug they would be decent. Hell ive been using the clear plastic bumper that came with the phone until the 30th when I can get my supcase heavy duty for $20
