Ok, so I do not know if anyone have noticed this already, but you might find this interesting.
When you pass your finger over the Lockscreen without actually touching it the phone draws a ripple effect along the path of your finger,
Here's what I found; if you hold your finger steady close enough over the screen without touching all the way, you can see your pulse!!
The way I see it is, unlike the s4's lockscreen where you have a dot following you while you hover, the note's lockscreen draws a circular ripple below your finger that changes in area as you get closer. So, if you don't change the distance between your finger and the screen, the only thing that is changing the capacitance between your finger and the screen is actually your own pulse fluctuating the electrostatic energy in your finger.
If you've read so far I hope I haven't wasted your time. I just wanted to share
Was skeptical but yep seems to work not sure my pulse is that fast though
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk 4
Can a app be built arround this ? It's pretty cool
It's NOT your pulse. It's just an effect.
Try hovering your S Pen over the screen = same thing.

For those amongst us who are A, incapable of smell, or B, completely deprived of any observational skills?
I guess everyone knows, but if not this one works.
Maybe stupid of me, but when someone mentioned making an app for it.

Is it just me or are the softkeys really bright on the s2?
Well, ive gone on google and tried to find the answer, but seems like there is not a way to possibly reduce the brightness of the softkeys itself.
However, before i give up (i find those softkeys useful, but hard to use at night as its too bright, and turning off the function is difficult to use) I was wondering if its possible without rooting, by using a 3rd party app.
Thanks

That's an interesting idea. The brightness issue made me turn off that light all together (running CM9). I found the light so distracting when using my phone to read a book or something in a dark room at night...
I hope someone chimes in with an idea.
.
Seriously doubt its possible without root.... with root, the only ones i can find just turn them off.. havent seen anything that just dims.
Would definitely say impossible without root, as you need to edit system files to alter hardware functions. I don't believe there is a variable anywhere to edit that though, because I've only ever seen their functions to be off and on with all the phones I've used that have had them. Just my 2 cents, but I'm sure a skilled dev could give you a better opinion.

Darn alright thanks for your posts!
Hopefully a dev could give his $0.02, as i would believe it would make the softkeys more usable throughout the day and night.
i think over time you get use to it. i turned my keys off and i have no problem navigating.

That's true. But I think to me its that little add on that makes everything nicer. However, just my opinion though.

Use the app screen filter. It will allow you to dim the buttons. Not sure if root is needed or not tho.

Didn't work for me either, however, I like the the function of the app for screen brightness.
What rom are you guys on? I'm on AOKP B40 and screen filter worked perfectly. Much easier to dim than with Lux, and back light for keys turned off and on perfectly.

Wont work. The leds used can not be dimmed. They are a two stage light. On/off

I'm not sure exactly how these specific leds work, but I know with store bought leds, you can use what's called multiplexing which makes them flash faster than your eye can see, but slow enough that it seems as if they are dimmer...not sure if there is a way to lower the speed or if you can even make them flash at all (constantly)
You could also maybe look for a night mode from a third party app to change settings at a certain time
Sent from my SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
That said.. I wonder if its safe to have a an app to lower voltage/amps to these leds.

It works when its placed on a flat surface. I also believe it works by using the proximity sensor which of course also uses light sensor so it can see your hand in the dark. I really do hope someone can get this to work on our GSIII.
Its cool. Don't see why it would be useful though..

You're at work, sitting at your desk. Your led light is blinking and you want to see what you've missed.
Hit a button? Who does that nowadays? Simply hover your hand over the proximity sensor and bam! You notice you've missed a text, which can wait. Carry on with your work, son.
Or you can wake your phone when the led is blinking, respond to the text, and then waste time on your phone reading XDA when you should be working.

Wow, that is pretty nifty. Let's be honest, most of the GSIII features are mostly just cool things to show people with SOME (but little) real application.
I would love this as well.

I wonder how much battery this consumes as it'd have to keep the proximity sensor active all the time.

This app uses your phone's motion, gravity, and proximity sensors to automatically turn on and off your screen so that you don't have to press any keys (software or hardware).
For instance, when I put my S4 inside my pocket or holster it to my belt clip, the screen turns off automatically. When I take the phone out, the screen turns on automatically as well.
I've tried a few apps similar to this before but this one just works very well and consistently.
I already installed it on my mom's and wifey's S2s and they love it too~! Just wanted to share the goodness~

The only time the screen turns off on me when I don't want it to is when I text and I accidentally rest one of my fingers over the proximity sensor by mistake. Otherwise, it's been good. I wish there was a time-delay option for proximity sensor to turn off the screen so an accidental finger covering up the proximity sensor doesn't turn off the screen right away.

I see. It's an extra step but you could pull down the notification menu and pause the app before gaming then turn it back on afterwards. My mom tells me that sometimes when she's watching Netflix, the screen turns off on her. I told her not to cover up the sensor but she just disabled the app.

According to GSam battery monitor, Gravity Screen Off is responsible for only 0.2% battery drain. I haven't noticed any extra drain because of this app.
Hi, I was able to remove that silly spen icon in the notification bar in 4.3 by using quick shortcut maker and finding the page or site buddy. After upgrading to 4.4.2 that icon returned. Furthermore the page buddy crashes at once it is called.
How can I get rid of this silly spen icon in 4.4.2? Any ideas?

Just put some electrical tape over the top corner of the screen so you can't see it.

SPen icon is there to remind you that you have detach your SPen from the phone. It is easy to get distracted in busy world, and that litle thing is there for that one specific helpful reason.

Do a factory reset if page buddy keeps crashing - OR remove it via Titanium backup and have someone give you the files and push them into the system (this might not work though)

The Wacom digitizer uses battery. I want my indicator in case I set the pen down and continued using my phone. The pen insertion/removal sensor is more about activating/deactivating the Wacom digitizer than it is about warning keeping track of your pen and the symbol helps too.

You're working on the misconception that the Wacom digitizer is switched on/off depending on whether or not the sPen is inserted.
It isn't. Try using a different Wacom pen on your screen with the Note's pen still inserted. You will find it still works fine.

Turn that on and move the circle to above the music icon. I have the bottom part of the circle line in the music icon.
