[Q] Create a picture browser for smartphones with a database ?? - Other Tools & General Discussion

Hello
I would like to create a smartphone app.
At least for Android, but it would be great if it could be easily adapted for iPhone too.
The app will have many pictures (from 1000 to 10000) organized in different sections with a small description (text) associated with it and maybe some relations (links between them).
The user would be able to browse the pictures and search for an specific one.
More options will be added.
I've thought the best option would be to use a database, but that could be very limited in smartphones. I think simplest one is SQLite.
I need your advise.
How could I do it?.
I'll start with Phonegap and jquery.
What technology would you use?
Would it be better to leave all the pictures in a directory and create a index in the database linking to them?
or is it possible to "embed" that pictures within the database itself?
Any other option?

[APP]My Data a very simple android database app

This is a very simple database application. It lets you create databases on your SD Card in a folder named My Data. Shortcuts to particular tables in the database can be created in the Android launcher. The application lets you do the following:
- Create/Delete/Rename/Backup databases.
- Create/Delete/Rename tables.
- Create/Delete/Rename columns.
- Create/Delete/Edit rows.
- Create relationships between tables.
- The following types are supported: Text, Integer, Real, Check Box, Date, Time and Phone numbers.
- The application is also localized in French.
- When databases, tables or columns are deleted, a backup of the database is performed automatically. Use any file browser to find the databases and their backups under /mnt/sdcard/My Data.
- The application stores the database using the SQLite file format.
- The application relies heavily on long press gestures to bring up context menus that will let you do some of the above.
- The application manages automatically the primary and foreign keys. So when you are creating your tables, avoid creating primary keys and creating relationships that use them. Use the regular columns for defining relationships. The application even takes care of situations where the linked to values change.
- Referential integrity is implemented by nullyfing the referencers when the referenced rows are deleted.
- The app supports encrypting data.
Sorry the forum could not let me attach link.
But the app can be found by doing a search on PortoFarina My Data in the Android Market.
If it only could handle also arithmetical operations (+ - X /), and allow forms to enter data it would be perfect for me. Was searching for a replacement for SmartList, which i used in Palm and with an emulator in WM, and using Memento right now.
perfect to use as simple as primary need.
#claus1953's idea would be awesome but i prefer an user manual. it will help for new user.
This app is excellent and has great potential, not least for the developer. Why? There are a ton of mysql apps that are either merely table viewers or expensive cloud subscription services.
The developer should add the option to donate to the project in the app.
I would like to sponsor - inclusion of views and syncing to mysql (http://programmerguru.com/android-tutorial/how-to-sync-remote-mysql-db-to-sqlite-on-android/).

[Q] [DBMS] Student project - Create a centralized database

Hi guys !
I'm a french student, and with a friend we would like to create an app. I'm not giving the details, but there would be a centralized database, accessible (but not writable) from an android app. I'd like to create a number of semi-admin, where every semi-admin can write only a selected (by us) and different part of the database. Only us will create the admin accounts and database. I want that when an admin writes his part of the database, the whole database is automaticly updated, and every user will see the modifications.
This project is low-cost, we'll not earn a lot with it. I thought about a cloud database, so that every writing is saved instantly and every user would have the modifications done when they use our app. I'd like to know if it exists, and if there is a free one. (The database would be really small, but there would be up to 100 000 access per week, and up to 1000 writing. I'd like it to be fluid.)
Do you have any ideas, name of cloud database services, or comments ??
Thank you for your help, and sorry for my English

Bookmark/WebLink Organizing ?!?!

Hi! (sorry if this is the wrong place for this thread)
I’m currently in the process of re-organizing my digital life. This means re-installing, upgrading all hardware, OS and such. Sorting, backing up and cataloging al my data on many disks. And right now I’m trying to organize my bookmarks.
I’m interested in what method you might use when organizing and maintain your bookmarks/web links. I use Firefox and Chrome, but have thousands of bookmarks from the past many years. I have made many attempts to organize them into folders and then have said folders placed on my bookmark bars as a sort of “bin” system but this would take too long manually using any browsers built-in bookmark manager. Ideally I would have my browsers bookmark bar lined with folders, organized by type (CG, Coding, Design, Photography, Outdoors, Science) and then inside the folders have sub-folders like under “Science” would be “Chemistry, Physics, etc..) and those sub-folders would then contain the web links themselves.
I have tried several of the bookmark management services like Diigo and such, and would love to have some sort of sync backup/management tool. It would be great if there was a windows application or web app that could import my bookmark library and give me a nice interface to organize them all manually and maybe offer some tools for batch methods and the like. So, what do you use? Any recommendations for software? Any good web services out there for this? Again, I have thousands of bookmarks, so anything that could make manually organizing easier would be great!
Many thanks!

[Q] App development help?

I want to develop a very basic app.
Main function: Show the value of a cryptocurrency
My problem: I don't know how to get the value of this cryptocurrency from this website and put it on my app. I want it so every time I push the refresh button it gets the newly updated value and prints in on the screen.
Hi,
To get values from a website, you can use a technique called screen scraping. To do that you can use Jsoup. A very good start point is to search for "Jsoup HTML Parser Hello World Examples" and check the mkyoung examples (I can not post links yet).
In order to examine the html you can use a web inspector like Firebug.
Jsoup is a nice library especially since it can handle fetching the document for you (not always desirable though) and has a familiar jQuery-like syntax. I've used it in projects before and it's pretty quick to get going with.

Koa11y 2.0.0

Koa11y is a desktop app which scans any specific web page for accessibility issues.
The program looks for a wide range of problems: missing image Alt attributes, missing titles, colour contrast issues, lengthy ALTs, poorly designed forms, and anything else that doesn't play nicely with accessibility software and APIs.
Koa11y is aimed at professionals, not the casual user. The reports are comprehensive and detailed, organising any issues into three categories: Errors (fix now), Warnings (take a look), and Notices (suggestions). Take a look at a sample report here.
While there's a lot of web analysis going on here, the program itself is very simple. At a minimum, you might just enter a URL, specify an output folder and click Run. An HTML report file is produced within seconds.
If HTML doesn't suit your needs, the program can save reports in CSV, JSON, XML and Markdown.
Experts can also validate the page using several standards. WCAG2AA is the default; WCAG2A is a little more lenient, WCAG2AAA a little more strict; and Section 508 is a separate US government standard.
Thread Closed.
Thanks
