Looking for testers for Clean and Tweaked for Locked Bootloaders - Sony Xperia L

Are you one of the people like me with locked bootloaders and can't install Clean and Tweaked by Serajr? Well I have figured out what to send to the phone to not soft-brick it and have all the features working of Clean and Tweaked.
I need a few people to test the file and instructions, so please PM me.
You need to be able to flash your phone with flash tool, root it for full root, know how to setup ADB and ADB drivers, etc. No noobs please. This isn't the easiest thing and following each step is critical, but it works. I've had to flash to stock well over 100 times and getting soft bricks until I figured it out. I"m testing another 5 times or so, then I'll contact whoever PM's me tomorrow night.

Nice to see a person to initiate installation of custom roms on locked bootloader. Count me in

Count me in

Well Clean and Tweaked is really just a stock ROM that is de-bloated, tweaked some, deodexed, latest honami apps, etc, so it will run from the stock kernel. The problem is getting it on there. You can't nuke system from ADB, since ADB, SU, Busybox all run on the system partition, and you can't replace other files when android is running, it doesn't like that. lol. So after lots of trial and error, I have the correct sequence to replace the needed files to android running enough to be able to copy what the ROM needs to run. This method won't work with CM or other ROM's as they need a custom kernel with signature verification disabled.

I will once I release it to a few testers first to make sure my steps work across different PC's and there isn't something specific I have installed that doesn't work on a normal PC with working ADB drivers.

how can i install the rom on locked bootloader??

The whole point of this thread, if anyone reads its properly, is to get testers in beta first, via PM, so I can release it.

Wait till I release, PM me to be a tester if you're good with ADB and rooting and stuff.
::faceplant::
PM me if you are good with ADB, can root your phone no problem, can flash with flashtools. Otherwise, don't post in this thread. It's not a Q&A, it's not a release thread, it's not ask about ETA, it's for beta testers, period.

I not have any idea about AdB but I can folow steps, is u believe what I can help u contact me.

Going to have to put this on hold. While it all seemed to work, and I got everything working on the surface, things like camera don't work, backup and restore don't work, and bunch of other problems came up.
I'm going to have to rethink this. It's just time consuming to restore the phone to stock, root, remoutbootfix, do the initial setup, deodex, copy some files, get a soft-brick, start all over. lol. It's like an hour each time to go through it all just to end in a softbrick and I've done this process probably 100 times already. I have another idea to try, but requires time. lol. In the meantime, I still need a working phone.

I suggest you just release the prealpha and let other developers have a look at it.
I am also working on a ROM for Xperia L and I am almost facing the same problem. The CWM is my interest these days as if I can port that to locked bootloader, I think I can solve these problems. I suggest you just update prealpha release and let other developers have a look. The work would be all yours and you may credit those who come up with fixes. This way it will be much quicker and more people can contribute which I am sure will make it more stable and better!

Count me on, as long as not hardbrick i will try to help

Absolute BEST root method for Aria: Unrevoked team's Root/Recovery reflash tool

This makes getting into Clockwork, well, clockwork. This flashes Clockwork custom recovery, replacing your stock recovery. To top it off, if you are running a stock ROM, it will root it in the process.
Great job, Unrevoked Team!
Once you load this, don't forget to donate to EFF.
Go get it!
NEW 08-01-2010: shad0wf0x has made a custom Ubuntu LiveCD spin with a script that pulls down the Unrevoked tool and runs it as root - all from the Ubuntu Desktop. This ends hassles for windows users having driver troubles, and requires NO LINUX KNOWLEDGE and NO LINUX INSTALLATION. This should work on any device supported by the unrevoked reflash tool.
Check out shad0wf0x's thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7449486&postcount=1
Notes:
Please read Shadowmite's quoted post below carefully
Linux users MUST run reflash as root (sudo su or equivelent - this does NOT mean root is required on the phone - root is not required).
After flashing, the phone will go to Clockwork recovery when shut down with the USB cord connected and charging. Clockwork cannot be used reliably when started in this manner. To start clockwork, start with the USB disconnected and powered down completely, then start the phone into HBOOT and then recovery normally.
I have contacted Koush regarding the missing battery meter while charging. It's unlikely that this will be restored.
Shadowmite said:
Recovery Reflash Tool
Available for linux, mac, and windows all at once. Also should support Evo, Incredible, and Desire. To clarify it will require that you have root already. If you don't, please proceed with the other method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=699088) for now to get it until we have a better option (which still is in the works).
First steps:
1. You will need to make sure in windows at least that you have the proper driver for hboot:
http://www.unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php?id=public:windows_hboot_driver_install
2. You will also want to at some point do a adb shell into the phone and su if you have not. Superuser if installed will prompt you to give access. This must be done before the tool will work.
3. HTC Sync is BAD news... If you have it, please uninstall if you have issues, or just for spite. It interferes with us communicating to the device randomly, also pdanet, doubletwist etc could cause issues. If it uses USB and you have problems, try disabling/uninstalling until after the reflash is complete.
4. Make sure you have a sdcard in the phone, it's needed.
5. When asked ALWAYS CHOOSE CHARGE ONLY, perhaps you should check remember this...

Help I'm stuck at waiting for system to settle
check these common issues:
- You switched your driver to the one from this post? It's NOT identical to the SDK one.
- You don't have any usb applications that might be taking focus while we are working with the phone right?
- Is the SD card present in the device?
- You did give su permenent access when you allowed it in superuser right?

This is indeed great news....NOW the real fun begins........
This just isn't working for me at all...I've tried it several times on multiple computers. It never does anything but say waiting for device...............
I have confirmed root several times and installed the proper drivers several times
so what exactly does this do?
nothing until the updated version is posted.
Edit: sorry about that, I didn't answer your question. It will flash Clockwork custom recovery on rooted Arias so that we don't have to go thru the crazy adb chase to get to clockwork. It will replace the stock recovery.
Almost... We haven't pushed the new version up quite yet.

Well we released the tool here, and already today we are adding a new device to support, the HTC Aria. Again rooted via the same recovery adbd race they too can benefit from a easy way to get back in to flash roms at will. We will be adding a FAQ to the unrevoked site as well in order to answer some common questions about the process.
http://unrevoked.com/recovery/
In other news, we also still intend to hopefully push a method which will greatly simplify getting root on the newer secure devices using another kernel exploit. While it’s in progress and we have seen it work on desktop machines, and even the android emulator, the phones remain resistant so far. Hopefully we will get this taken care of.
We also have a intent to release a full nand unlock (as opposed to the temporary unlock we use to flash this recovery) which will manifest via a hboot flash. Being a much riskier thing, we are trying to cover ourselves completely before bricking devices testing this.

This will make my forays into Froyo much less stressful... you know, not having to spend three hours trying to get clockwork running before I can get my changes onto the phone after I do yet another thing to try fixing the kernel. xD
i think i just cried SO BEAUTIFUL
Have they updated the tool yet?
I haven't heard anything yet.
Almost! We're working out a FAQ and slight revamp to the webpage that was a needed bit. almost up.

Well, according to Shadowmite's directions, Sync messes up this process. If you have a linux livecd, better to do it from that. I did mine on a Linux box.
Ok, it's live! HTCSync is a problem, it likes to random mess with the communications. Please remove it and then reinstall after you flash...
Also make sure to choose charge only!
Have fun, it's up and ready!

I don't really feel like messing around with linux right now, but really want to try this, is there a workable way to get the drivers without htc sync?

One click Root APK for CDMA Hero

UPDATE: This has been confirmed as working
This is a direct port of my Eris one click app, with just a name change and recovery change. Should work fine. No PC, no nothing needed, but this apk. Please remember this is experimental, and since I have no hero it is untested. The eris community got so much from the Hero CMDA guys, thought I would send something back. If someone cares to test and let me know, I would appreciate it. If you are serious about wanting to test it, and want to see the source prior to testing I will provide it on request.
How it works. It used the symlink trick on mid.txt, then flashes recovery on root and extracts rootme.zip to your sdcard. Which has superuser.apk and su in it. This app doesn't have the best ui, and looks "dirty", but works great on the eris and I have no plans to update the look of it.
I believe this should work on all 2.1 hero, but most surely the Alltel one.
Preface, This is not a free app, its a try before you buy app. If this app works for you, and you are happy with it. You are required to donate a meal to a homeless youth, or any amount of money to a youth outreach type program.
This is a TeamAndIRC production.
I got bored and whipped this up tonight with ECLIPS3. This will root your Herp running 2.1 with 1 click.
If something doesn't work, don't freak just contact me, and we can figure it out.
This does NOT erase anything off your phone. You can keep you data/apps with this root!
Step 1) download and install this apk
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8699733/heroroot010.apk - VERSION 0.1.0
Step 2) Run, read disclaimer, press button
Step 3) Reboot, once rebooted your phone should have Darchstar's recovery. Yay.
Step 4) Use the recovery to flash rootme.zip that is now on your SDCard, or the custom rom of your choice.
Step 5) Go into settings, and turn usb debugging on. After you have root, please uninstall this app.
Just that easy.
Please come chat with use at http://chat.andirc.net or irc.andirc.net #droideris if you have a separate IRC client.
Credit to:

TopazAaron for the icon
wag3slav3 for the root method
DarchStar for the recovery image
erisuser1 for the post that gave me the idea.

I'm going to test it in about 10 minutes (once my tester finishes charging).
My tester is currently running the 2.1 stock, .5 version, but the phone I want to root is a .6. Will this (theoretically, of course) work on both?
Looks good, I know there are still a lot of alltel users who are having trouble gaining root on their phones.

Need a Tester for Root App
jcase and I need a tester that is willing to unroot their phone so that they can then test out a root app we made. It should work with minimal chance of brick, but would like someone to test it out for us.

by flashing the wrong file to the phone thats not compatible. or having it get corrupted while flashing the recovery to the phone. its a very minimal chance of brick, like 0.0001% chance it bricks, but just wanted to give people a heads up before they risk putting their phones up for testing.
confirmed working, have fun.

I just ran the app on my 2.1 stock, .6 version, but I'm at work at can't tell if it's rooted or not. I'll try to post back after I get off work. I don't have a data connecetion at work so I can download an app and find out.
EDIT: IT WORKS!! I download titanium backup and it appears to be working fine.
BTW...my data connection was fine, it just doesn't seem to work while I have wifi on
Does this do 100% full root?
Works !!!
Thanks for this work,it is much appreciated
Thanks!
Worked nicely. Off to try new roms.
what is the difference in this and the other universal (meaning a bunch of phones) one click root app?
If you plan on staying on the rooted stock ROM, I recommend flashing my boot-patched.zip from my rooting thread to keep full root in adb shell.
is this for a rooted or non rooted phone? im sorry im new to droid
this is a way to root it. So, for an unrooted one to get root.
This was too stupidly easy.
I ran into some serious issues when I accidentally used the Unrevoked.apk on a .6 SW Build instead of .5 SW Build...and this fixed it. Well assuming my odex is going well behind the splash screen.
THANK YOU!
Will donate in a couple weeks when I get paid, for certain.
Do you put that ADK file on your SD card in the phone? Or install it on your comp first?
Put the .apk on.ur sdcard andbinstall it from a app managwr

Wow, that was unbelievably easy. Thank you. Now that I'm rooting, how do I get rid of the crap Sprint software like Sprint TV? I tried to uninstall and it wouldn't let me.

Rooting, Flashing, Backing up And Installing New Boot Loader

Hi guys,
I just got a SGS4G about a week ago and I would like to tweak it a little bit but I do have some concerns. This is my first android smartphone
Here are my concerns:
I would like to do a Backup of my ROM in case I ever want to go back to it. How could I do that? Do I need to install a bootloader other than the one that comes with the phone? if yes which one should I install?
I have rooted my phone and would like to get rid of a bunch of apps but was reading that if you remove some of the apps it could cause the phone to malfuncion. Is there a compiled a list of apps that should not be removed? or this is just not true?
When I'm ready to install a Stock ROM how do I do that? Via Odin? (I can look for some guide if it's via Odin)
Can anyone tell me what would be the benefit of installing Deodexed instead of using the Stock ROM?
Will i always me able to come back to my Stock ROM once i figure how to create a backup ROM?
Am I missing any important point that I should know about?
I would really appreciate if you can help clarify this doubts that I got before i try to do anything.
Thanks
i'm new to all of this too but ill try to answer some questions. Although, I think this thread should NOT be in development and should be in general. I personally have read through a lot of threads to get the answers that I was seeking for.
As far as backup goes, I think its possible through Odin via dump option? don't quote me on that, I have not had to do that before, nor have I read up on it. bootloader as far as i see, i did not need it.
there is a thread in here with virgin rom request, LOOK for it.
There is NO compiled list of apps that you can or cannot delete, but if you read, there is a dl for BLOATWARE, use that as a template to what you want deleted.
Right now, ODIN is the only way that you can flash your phone, and use the two roms listed in this development thread.
From what i read a deodexed rom just helps with file system and structure. I think?
you will always be able to go back to stock, if you have the virgin rom.
Imo, you should read up/skim through every thread in here to see what is available, problems people are having and the fixes for them. I know there is alot of information in here and it maybe overwhelming, but there were 172 views of this thread without any replies because us noobs need to READ/SEARCH. Thats the answers we'll get if we continue to make new threads. Just fyi if your new to forums.
Moved as not android development.
As newbie you should first read and use search
then if you dont see question you want, you just ask it
And about Roms , well i tried that deox v2.2 and didnt like it , switched to stock with removed bloat and love it more but thats for different thread
Well thanks for you answers and I do apologize for posting this here. I didn't know. I think i will go with what you have done. Stock ROM without bloatware. Did you flash the Stock ROM from this forum? or did you just deleted the apps one by one?
I will do the fota fix as well.

ClockWorkMod is the preferred way to backup your ROM, but it does not seem to be working on the SGS4G currently. I was messing with it one night and actually think I got it to backup the Rom one time but I cannot guarantee that I did because I was working on a supposed fix and did not get a chance to copy the backup file to my computer before it got wiped off my SD card. The process is called nandroid backup. If you have a virgin phone and want a clean backup of your ROM you might want to wait until the fix comes out for CWM.
Once you root your phone you can install Titainum backup. That allows you to backup your apps/Data/System settings. At least that’s what it says it does. From what I’ve read, the best way to backup your apps is with ADB which is part of the Software Development Kit. You can also use Android Commander which uses ADB to Pull your apps to your computer and make a backup there. Check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010006 for info on SDK and ADB commands. There is also a direction to making new apps install to your SD card natively. This link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1001202 also shows that command and how to Reverse/Check status of settings.
The Noobs guide to Oden covers the basics to flashing your ROM fairly well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1001759
The [ROM-ODIN]T959VUVKB5 Stock + Root and [ROM-ODIN] Deodexed KB5 Enhanced v2.2 are the two ROMs that are working now for most people. The first is Odexed the second is Deodexed. Odexed is how it comes stock and takes up less room but making modifications or taking apks from other roms is hard, While Deodexed allows modders to work on the apks & easily change stuff like themes. (Description Taken from Damage's DamageControl Thread) My suggestion is to have some patience and wait for ClockWorkMod to be updated and working for the SGS4G before you dive in too deep. Take some time to look around the 4g posts and read as much as you can to get familiar with what is working and what is not. Check some of the threads with locks on them to see what not to do. There is a wealth of information in these pages.

installing custom ROM CM11

Hello. Im new here and I have Motorola Photon Q with SIM mod and custom ROM Mokee (Android 6.0.1).
I want to know if I want to instal CM11/12 (or CM13) on my phone i need to get back to Stock ROM and than do all of the rom stuff?
Also i trying playing PoGO with Mygisk but when i turn off root it gets back on. Any solution?
And one more, is there a big chance to I change my phone to a ussles brick?
Thanks for help.
There's always the potential to brick a device, if you do something incorrect.
While the chances are less likely nowadays, the issue is still possible. If you are afraid of this potential, stop now.
Otherwise, you can flash any ROM you want - no need to go back to stock.
As for the root comment, no clue - I'm guessing you didn't truly disable root (perhaps you can't disable it in Mokee? Never used it myself. Never wanted to disable root either...).
Good luck.

I sucessly upgrade my phone to CM12, its nightly in fact but everything is ok for now. :good:
In Mokee I have a option to dislabe root in developer options but this didn't give anything, PoGO still won't start.
I was wondering about it and I think I shouldn't risk to brick my phone for one silly game.
Thank You very much for help
I realize this is way old so you probably figured out a way, but to play PoGo one easy way (that works for me) is to use TWRP to rename the 'su' binaries to something else. There are a couple of them and I don't recall exactly where they are but I found the info on this site. Of course then you won't have root automatically, but can still run your renamed su from a terminal if needed, or use twrp to rename them back to su. Every time you update builds su gets restored, so have to rename again for PoGo.

[ROOT][MAGISK] For Asus ZenPad 10 3s[P027]

Just goot this device rooted! Just gonna test the script a few times so there isent any bugs and i will upload it!
EDIT: Systemless Root methods like Magisk resets after root(I Think SuperSu works if u tweak dm-verity in the kernel). But using system-root both breaks saftynet and is boring
So im gonna try to edit the boot img to work with magisk or SuperSU even if the bootloader is locked.
If none of theese things works there is a way to Re-root after each reboot but its ofc much easyer just to edit the boot.img or unlock the BL
EDIT 2: I will also try to reverse engineer the bootloader to try to find a weak point where we can unlock it, for easyer rooting and creating custom roms
EDIT 3: Also forgot to mention xposed works because you dont "need" root. If anyone want xposed just reply in the thread and il upload the script "as is" even though it resets after each reboot, but root works perfect have tested multiple apps.
And as i said before, before i release the root method publicly i want to check if its the BL who "resets" the kernel like on some HTC devices or if its a simple dm-verity problem , if it is the dm-verity thing its easy to fix.
More info:
Flashing kernel, system, recovery works because the only partitions that are protected are the BL and FRP partions but not for long
So far:
Magisk: Works
Bootloader: Locked
Saftynet: Passes

Comming in an hour! Just gotta check the updatescript for errors before posting :)
j wait for your script to root my Z500 m thanks to you.
Wow, finally there's a method to root. I own the device since august and I really want to get it rooted due to all bloatware I want to uninstall and to install 3rd party apps.:good:
super thanks to you me too and thanks to you I could root the tablet with all s is unnecessary thank you for your work:good::good::good:
Cant wait
Wow.... time is ticking to bring root to the P027
I can't wait for an update on this.
There must be another way to get a rooted ASUS P027. I tried much but don't have any success. I think that there is a way to push some files manually to /data/local/tmp. Setting right permissions using adb. Finally executing a root-shell-script from one of many should do the rest. Problem is not to get the files inside the system, you have to do it again after each reboot.
I'm a bit nervous to modify bootloaders and flash them on the go with no oem support. If some support for this device comes available from ASUS it should be a lot easyer to do.
I cant upload photo's till i'm no longer seem like a robot. I also got some kind of root on my P027. only for a moment. After reboot it is gone.
I can't wait for that!
Will it come out soon..... so excited ^_^

Ok guy's where do we stand on root as of 5pm Wednesday 10.04.2017 ??
I bought the ASUS Zenpad 3S 10 [P027] off Amazon on Saturday on a flash sale for $265, knowing it didn't have root, and that's a shame because it's a beautiful & buttery smooth tablet.
Today, as I was pondering boxing it up for a return, I figured I'd look for myself once more for the hell-of-it, AND BOOM! I found this thread!
So where are we guys? I'll test it for ya or whatever! So friggin' pumped ROOT has been established! Dare I say -Vanilla Oreo ROM with onscreen softkeys??? YEAH!
Really looking forward to this! I don't mind getting my hands dirty, but just waiting for the script I'm very happy to have stumbled upon this thread, can't wait to have root on this tablet!!
Fortunately we will get to see the script. I own the P027 since auust 17. A very good hardware. But without root its only worth half. So, me too is awaiting the script but so far I guess we still have to wait. Til now, no root app works (iRoot, Kingo, e.g.) Very sad because I think that once we rooted it and get rid of all the OEM bloatware, this tab may rocks a lot more.

to remove bloatware, i followed this guide. I can confirm ist works.

Can you go ahead and upload the script for those of us brave enough to try it? Thank you for all your hard work!
I got root and xposed. But I don't have a way to get it in that device
At my next post will I upload a photo or link of my own (semi) rooted P027. The Magic of rooting a device which is unsupported is far away from easy as flashing chainfire's zips or something possible using Odin or what. Most likely if there was a custom recovery for the P027 root would be easy because of all possibilities you have.
I've tried a lot of other ways to get in to try modify something in that locked system. It is hard to get there without losing patients! I also lose social networks I belong to. Even if days counts 48 hour instead of 24, root wasn't there with the success I had hope to. Sometimes only after manually redirecting some files with adb and manually setting right permissions to every file. It becomes possible to get accessing "su" in terminal app. Only sometimes, after each modifying something, you're device needs to reboot for applying that modification. At that point you lose everything before you can use it.
If someone can post latest boot.img I will try to patch it with Magisk. If that is possible it will get easier to activate systemless xposed. A few weeks ago on note 8 launch day... It took at least 1 hell of a day before root came available on xda. Also twrp and custom roms are available.
Hope soon to make it happening for real.
hi I would buy this tablet but wanted to understand root situation. can you run the root on this device? you can install Rom?

Here is the boot.img from WW_V14.0210.1709.27: https://mega.nz/#!4bQExBTB!5fyivXxvP4aYAxCDjsYRJ1X7o1wMXYGBLf1TO0ns-z4
I downloaded the WW_V14.0210.1709.27 firmware from ASUS Support then unzip the package to get this file.
Hope it will be helpful to you. I am really looking forward to root this device!
Thank you for your hard work!
