[Q] App porting - Sony Xperia Miro, Tipo (Dual), J, E

is is possible to port stock system phone and contacts apps from samsung models?
they have the swipe to call/message feature.
i know the "exDialer" app on playstore does the job too.
but im thinking if we can port it then we won't need an "extra app running" in the background all the time.
so what do you guys think?

Yes, but will not working properly.

Its possible. As long as you have root access on both the Sony and the Samsung you can transfer the apk (found in /system/app/) via bluetooth.

The app is designed for Samsung's customized version of android and samsung hardware so porting across to a SONY will bring some issues. I haven't tried it myself but ported apps never work as intended fully.

First of all you need root access on both phones. You also need to install a root file explorer onto both devices. I would also recommend backing up the Sony using flashtool to fix any issues that may arise.
On the Samsung, go to the root directory (/), next go to (system/) then go to (app/). Somewhere in that folder will be the contacts app in APK format. You will need to make a copy of that file and either Bluetooth it to the sony or transfer it via USB/WiFi Direct. Make a copy of the Contacts.apk file in the /system/app folder on the SONY and name it Contacts.Backup.apk. Now you are ready to install, you need to copy the APK you just transferred from the Samsung to that folder. If needed, rename the apk to Contacts.apk and reboot your phone.
If all goes well, you should have the Samsung Contacts app on your SONY. However, I do not own a Samsung nor have I tried transferring apps like these between phones. Do this at your own risk, I am NOT responsible for a bricked device.
There may also be some dependencies in that folder which are needed for operation. I would suggest transferring any app with the word contact(s) in the title.
If this helped then please leave a "thumbs"
-James

i know i need to transfer and install the relevant apks for the apps i want..but im saying do i need to modify the apk in someway so that they can be "installed" on other manufacturer's device? because once i tried to install htc stock apk on my sony, and it just said "application not installed"

HTC apps cannot be install in other device.
U need Sense framework and maybe there are other libs( maybe only in HTC firmware) needed to make the apps run on ur device.
U know, HTC suckss

okay. so in order to run other manufacturer's apps, even if you are able to port it, you need the particular framework and libs. thanks that answered me.

Hi,
I'm not an android developement expert but have a question about your advice.
If we delete only the app from /system/app folder (and nothing more. via root explorer), won't it cause trouble?
I would like to give an example for clearing this issue in my mind. In windows, if we just delete the exe file from the Program Files, it doesn't mean we uninstalled the program. It still lefts dll files etc. Is it like this in android?
I asked this because I wanna uninstall the apk's in my custom rom like Google Player or DSP Manager. The developer installed them inside the custom rom, so they look like system apps and as a result I can't uninstall them...
replace them via root explorer and check the permission for new file then restart your device and it will work

adroid system are module style, a apk consist of every thing needed to run the apps. but some app need extra lib file, if you can find the lib file used by a apk to run, than you can delete it form system/lib too.
Exactly what the post above said. Some system apps have .lib files (like windows dll) but i would leave them if i were you because your replacement apps might have dependancies on those lib files. Im not entirely sure.
Also, the libs are stored in system/lib

nono ...i copied the apk files from an ics rom tried to put in gingerbread rom...and whie installing i got this error!!
Apps specially for ICS won't work in gb roms. These 2 version of roms are quite different.
Pls don't simply mess up with the roms version.

Btw, if you back up your original rom's apk files, there is a chance to use them on your custom roms. It has a higher chance if your custom is based on your original rom.
For example, I backed up samsung's music player and photo editor apk on original DDLF2 and installed them on my custom Frankestain rom. Now I'm using them with no problems. I must mention, the original fm radio apk didn't work on custom rom, as it needen some special libraries/frameworks.

Have u rooted and btw you cannot copy any file from any mobile as they are device specific
So donot try to copy system files because they can brick your phone
Nope.. As mentioned above, it could brick your phone..
Unless you have those apps that already ported and support your device..
And of course, always perform nandroid backup..

First, go to your Device forum within XDA, and if it is available, find a sub forum that contain "Themes & App", there you can try to find what app that has been modded or only available for specific device, you can apply it since it is inside your device forum, which means it may be safe to be applied. :fingers-crossed:
OR
You can also try to search what apps you need first, BUT ... be aware for the instructions, read it carefully whether the apps is compatible with your device..
Don't worry, if your device is a known brand already, I bet at least there are more than five apps that you can apply to your device..
Beside, this is developer forum, right? You can manage to find it...

[Q] Where is Smart Manager App on At&t Galaxy S6?

I've tried following the guides from all the reviews and tip and tricks articles online. I even hard rest my phone thinking I had deleted the app by mistake while clearing the bloat. I've used S-Search, Google Play store, Samsung App Store and I can't find it. This app is featured in the At&t product help video but it seems to not be accessible. I'm looking for help finding it.
Thank you in advance.
They removed it. Same as Verizon
Why would they do that? Is there a good app to clear out the ram and close unneeded running apps? I use to use Active apps widget on my S4 everyday. Is the best option just to restart it everyday now? Thanks for any help. Oh, I meant to also ask if there's a way to get this from Samsung and reinstall it? I couldn't find it on Samsungs website.
I found it in the settings, app management. It shows it using data and/or memory. But I can't get it to turn on or create a shortcut.
This is my first Android phone, came from Windows Phone ecosystem.
I can extract apk if needed don't know of it will work for u though

Old exclusive xperia app not installing

So I still have an old backup of the SSX mobile app from my Z1. Problem is that is does not install. When I select the apk to install I get the app installing screen for about 30 seconds before getting the app not installed screen. I want to see how the game runs of the more powerful z5 but I run into this problem. I testing it on my friends nexus 5 and it installed fine and he could start the app but he could not play because his phone was not an xperia. Is there any way I can make the app compatible?
Thanks
Ps: I can also try to upload the apk if anyone wants it.

Just Write name of apps
+ App for specific device (Xperia) has firmware restriction
There different Firmware and library on Xperia devices
so Xperia Phones will scan that configuration which other device just check if it set to required true/false
if you have to decompile apk and recompile it with higher xperia sdk or generally android api.
:good:

If moding apk file.
Remove Sony signature inside "meta-inf" and patch android-manifest.xml then signas normal app.
But may not work becuse some system app have external files needed... Like framework and jar file or /etc/permissions and more.
Update:
Check this port work for you or not
