Hi friends,
I am an American working in China right now and bought a Samsung galaxy note 10.1 (GT-N8000). It came with Chinese firmware, which means China strikes back by not having he google play store come standard in the software. This left me with the piddly Samsung apps store. I decided to root it using the clockwork recovery method. Rooting went fine. googleservicesframework.apk and vending.apk both installed correctly. (I have also similarly added the play store to my wife's kindle fire without issue.)
However, whenever I try to set up my account with the google play store, you get that error message that says something like, "couldn't make a reliable data connection with the google play store". I've tried every fix I've found on forums and youtube (but with android 4.1.2 you can't try the method that sends you to the accounts and sync page as there is none.) I also tried the editor fix with the hosts file located in the ETC folder of the parent directory of the firmware. What I noticed when I was directed there was that the second line where they want me to add the "#" before the IP address, is that there was NO IP address there. There was only the "127.0.0.1 localhost" on line 1 and nothing else.
The signing in with the youtube app trick cant workeither as CHina also banned youtube and the app is not native to the firmware.
Any idea how I could fix this??

Just wanted to put this out there somewhere maybe it will help someone.
I recently purchased an Ematic FunTab Pro from Walmart.com and was able to install Google Play store by simply loading an older market.apk file.
All of the other Google Framework was already on this tablet.
Unfortunately the tablet I received had a damaged screen so I had to return it but wanted to let everyone know that it should be very possible to add Google Play to this tablet.
how do you load google play?

I just searched it on Google. Just type something like "Google play store apk". I've got it installed on my little brother's fun tab pro but I can't figure out how to get it to work. It keeps force closing whenever I open it or when I try to install an app with it. I heard the Google framework doesn't come with the tablet, how did that other guy have the framework already there? Any help would be appreciated but I'm going to try a few more things to see if I can get it to work too. Thanks.
Same problem here, I bought two of them for my boys. Tryin to figure it out. I'm able to side load app from random websits. I'm not a big fan of that though.
I'm just using the slideme market for now. Its better than the broken app stores preinstalled
These things are horrible, nothing works, apps crash. I consider myself an advanced android user and this is pathetic. Im getting a headache. Were returning them back to Walmart later.
My solution:
Download APK extractor and Wifi file transfer (wifi transfer app optional) with registered android device.
Download desired apps to registered Android device.
Use APK extractor to extract app (no root needed)
Either use wifi transfer (wireless and more convenient) or use PC to transfer APK files to FunTab. (Files can be found in the "APKextractor" folder from registered android device and move them to to the desired folder in the FunTab ) detach from computer.
Install APK on fun tab using stock file browser
Thank me and enjoy.
Amazon App Store
Try installing the amazon app store.
Ematic Funtab 7" tablet
My sister bought this tablet for my 2 year old son for christmas he loves it but it would be nice if I can install Netflix on his tab so he can watch SuperWhy and YoGABA GABA and all that kiddie stuff he likes.
I'm trying to install the Google Play APK and Netflix APK the apps try to launch but they don't open, and they crash.
I read somewhere that I would have to send the tab to Ematic and they have to remove a "lock" so I can install all this stuff. From my understanding Zoodles causes this "lock" and it tricks the tab into thinking the outsourced apps are outdated and cannot launch.
I imagine that this so-called "lock" is just having to root this device.
Has anyone tried rooting it? He just received it, yesterday, I would hate to send it to Ematic just so they can root it.
Help?
Google Play Store
I have a Yuntab S4 running 4.2.1 Android which has BIG problem downloading Google Play & any other aps from this store...Do you have a URL for the mentioned "older market.apk" file? Thanks!
Noob here with a hard luck story..
I'm living in China, and just bought a new Galaxy Tab 2 7 inch (model number GT-P3100). Unfortunately, it didn't come preloaded with any Google apps. No Google Play store, nothing. I found the Google framework.apk, and play store.apk and successfully loaded them. They store app will load for about half a second, and then crash. nothing. I did manage to get the device loaded on my Google account, so it shows up on the web store. it wont download anything because the store app isn't working. China is absolutely not Google's friend...
would rooting and flashing a MOD from a tab from the usa be an option? maybe alt app stores? kind stuck...

Root then flash a Custom ROM (like AOKP or CyanogenMod) that has a GAPPs zip for it aswell, should get you up and going, tho you may also need to connect thru a proxy server outside of china, it's been a while and I don't remember all the details I've read about accessing google play from china. Yeah china sucks when it comes to google.
If you prefer the stock ROMs, you can also flash a stock ROM from another country with gapps included and should be fine
I'm going to try and be as detailed as possible here so bear with me. So a few days ago I got my first android device, a refurbished Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. Everything was working fine when I first got the device (including the google play store). I did a lot of research and ended up following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880010 to root and install CWM on the device. Cool right, everything still works (including the google play store). Next I decided I wanted to try out a custom ROM so I followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2202854 in order to install the PAC-ROM. Everything was working fine and I was really loving the new UI but this is when **** hits the fan. The google play store stopped showing me apps and when I could get one to show up through a search I was presented with a lovely "This item isn't available in this country". I followed some advice on XDA forums saying to clear the play store data/cache and reboot (tried this about 30 times). Nothing. Reset app preferences and clear all data/cache again. Nothing. Remove and re-add my google account. Nothing. Remove google account, reset everything, reboot, and add a new google account. NOTHING. At this point I'm getting frustrated so I decide to just do a factory reset and reinstall STOCK JB 4.1.1. NON-rooted following these steps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283598. NOTHING! When I open the play store I am presented an empty menu with a bunch of categories that have nothing in them. If I search for major apps like "Facebook" I can get to the app page but it says "This item isn't available in your country". I've tried about 10 google accounts now and to no avail. What's really weird is that I can't see the google play store on my Desktop computer either (both on the same wifi), its also a blank menu and If I search for a major app it shows me a few apps and most of them are in Chinese? What. The. ****. So, any ideas?

Does it look like this?

If it does, I'm having the same exact problem on a Kindle fire 2 running stock cm10.2
E: Oh, and this also started happening using the kf2 port of pac rom, if that means anything.
Very simple. The Play Store thinks you have a Chinese device and those are the only apps available for that device. Either install a new ROM or edit the build.prop in the system folder. I use Root Explorer which has a Text Editor built in. Change all the instances of the tablet model to the correct model. Save and reboot your tab and all should be well.
Do a complete wipe before you install a ROM if that is the path you choose.
nice info
Thanks
Well I figured out the source of the problem... my ASUS router. I had accidentally set the timezone to somewhere in the middle of the pacific ocean at -12:00 GMT when I'm actually in EST. I figured it out because on my girlfriend's wireless network my playstore worked absolutely fine (and she has the same ISP as I do). So after setting my router to the correct timezone all of my problem's were alleviated. :good:
Hey people!
I just flashed the Gapps Manager generated zip intended for my Samsung GT-S6102 (Android 2.3.6) over TechnoDUOS1.5 S1525 and everything went down without any trouble.
I had no problem updating Hangouts and installing Youtube, besides Google Market upgrades itself automatically to Play Store.
However, whenever I try to install Google Play Services through play store, it pops up an error 941. This is needed to run both Youtube and Hangouts. Google Maps on the other hand, pops up a different error: "Not compatible with other applications that use the same user-shared ID"
I've already tried almost everything, from blocking Market store from updating, to placing the Google Play Services apk manually to both /data/app and /system/app and changing the permissions manually. All to no avail. I also tried editing /data/system/packages.xml and experimented deleting all <shared-user> tag related to google services framework (which I take is the entry related to google play services). Still nothing.
Is there anything else I can try?
Thank you
I bought a breathalyzer that requires an app to use. The app requires android 4.3, so I rooted my Photon Q 4G and installed cm-10.2.1-xt897. However, the google play store still thinks my device is incompatible, even after messing around with Market Helper. I even tried playing around with build.prop manually, which was almost a disaster when it broke my keyboard and I had no way of typing back in the settings I had changed. I changed ro.product.model, ro.product.brand, and ro.product.manufacturer to imitate a Galaxy S3 and S4, neither worked. Anyway, I'd like to try side loading the app on my device to see if it works because I'm pretty sure the google play store is just being stubborn (I've seen other installation issues reported by people with non-rooted phones for this app). Could someone with a compatible phone (stock Android 4.3+) please download this app and send me the .apk file? I'm not asking anyone to steal since it's a free app anyway. Alternatively, could someone explain which settings I should be changing in build.prop to fool the google play store (preferably without breaking my phone)?

Here you go the apk is attached
Editing build.prop to look like other phones is not a good idea.
And to unlock the play store there is an xposed module available. So install xposed and find the module.:good:

This^^^ or go here too! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2392504
there is also a Chrome plugin that allows you to download directly from play store but is tricky as you need a fake IME and google account (Fake) lots of ways to get what you need
