Hey everyone, first time posting.
So I did a search for my particular question, and while some Q&A's deal with similar concepts, I feel my question is still unanswered.
That being said:
I have a Samsung Galaxy SII LTE i727r (Rogers). I am with Fido. I am getting an unlock code ASAP so that I can use the phone. When the i727r actually gets the ICS update, will I be able to use Kies to upgrade? Or will I have to flash/use a ROM.
Alternatively, could I just borrow a friends Rogers-SIM and upgrade that way?
Thanks!
Hey bro, you can update your phone by lies because if you install ICS from, your phone won't be i727r. It will be i727. Unfortunately our phones hasn't ICS from Samsung official page. For this reason we only use modified rom from i727 skyrocket phones. I recommend you the SKY ICS 4.2E 7 by seanscreams.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1653022

I have ordered a Galaxy S2 Skyrocket (I727) unlocked and plan to use it with Straight Talk using an AT&T compatible SIM card. My understanding is that this should work fine. My question involves upgrading the phone to Ice Cream Sandwich when it is available.
Since I will be using Straight Talk, I will not be an AT&T customer, but will be using their network. Will I get the ICS update when AT&T releases it or will I have to do something myself to get it?
I have never rooted a phone or flashed a new ROM and am not sure how comfortable I would be doing that. Would that be necessary to get the update?
Thanks
Since it's an AT&T phone you'll probably get the update along with everyone else.
You'll get the update. I've had to flash to 2.3.5 before and was able to go to 2.3.6 no problem. OTA still works. I'm on straighttalk

I apologize in advance for the noob question; I have been stock on this phone for awhile so I'm lost (ex-EVO here). I successfully rooted my phone two days ago, and now this upgrade popped up. It says it offers the Android 4.0.4 upgrade. Will it affect my root? Or brick my phone?

Wrong phone, buddy. Next time you should try reading before asking a question also.
I posted this in the epic 4G forum and here. Where is my phone? I've looked everywhere when I looked for root and ultimately had to take a chance. Can you please link me to the right forum?

I don't know where your phone is, but your forum (if you indeed have a SPH-D710 model device) should be here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1284
Just was looking for a quick answer I haven't been able to find. I just upgraded to the Telus variant of the S3 (i747m) and have rooted and installed TWRP. I just wanted to clear one thing up. When I was using my S2 (t989-d) It was ok for me to use a t989 rom despite using the Canadian variant. I was wondering when looking for a rom which ones would be compatible? I noticed the AT&T variant is i747 and I wanted to make sure I asked before destroying my phone.
I appreciate any answers, thanks.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10 .1 inch AT&T 4G SGH 1497 I am unable to use several features because of the 4.1 .2 apk update but more importantly I was curious if anyone was successful in installing a 4.2 .2 to this version of the tab 2 and if anyone was able to get everything working solid? I am very interested in getting this rooted but I don't want to screw up the 4G capabilities and take it off the AT&T network if anyone has any tips links or maybe I missed it in the forums on how or if its possible I would be greatly appreciative. also if you know anything about the WiFi Bluetooth problem I have another post that is directly related to this? thanks for Reading
I had no issues rooting and installing twrp/cwm, but I hard bricked one trying to install AOKP. CyanogenMod gave me the dreaded error 7. From what I understand, this hardware is nothing like the other TAB 2's. It's not looking too good lately. Imight get impatient before long and do my own de-odex and mod the systemui as well as other things. MY tab 2 is just not my main device so I haven't put allot of effort into it as yet. Someone is going to need to soon or we'll all just upgrade to something else that is better supported by dev's. I wish us luck on this device. I have googled to high hell and haven't dug up anything. Couldnt even find an odin file for 4.1.2, so I captured that one while i could and put it up for d/l. Maybe that will help someone dev on 4.1.2 at least.
Hello,
I'm glad I found this post. Can either of you provide a link to the file needed to root the AT&T 4G SGH 1497, I can't seem to find it anywhere. Thanks for any help.

I too am in this dilemma. I just purchased a Tab 2 and want to root to remove the AT&T bloatware. SGH-I497. I found this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2101044
But since I don't know when 4.1.2 was rolled out for the Tab 2, I don't know if this root method is valid. Help please.

One small mistake on my part... I have the wifi version. Changed my profile pic to Underdog (I'm such an idiot).
