About
Ok guys, So actually there are is no official "Introduction" given anywhere which I would copy and paste like I always do but as the tradition goes, the thread must have an about. So, this ROM is no non-sense after party firmware. It is, what people call "Lean Mean Pastry Machine". Based off AOSP, Vanir is aimed at providing you with the fluid and top-notch performance without compromising on Customization sector. It has all cherries like Pie, HALO, Active Display, Appbar and much more. So, Flash it. and get a taste the Viking Experience.
What's working:
Everything which isn't in "Not working Section" -- Phew!
What's not working:
Didn't find any bugs yet. Bug reports are more than welcome.
Screenshots:
NOTES: No, Seriously, read it:
-->Many features might not work if you dont flash gapps. For e.g. quick settings, etc
-->For increasing internal memory, I've given a kernel (NON-OC) which mounts your other partition (must be in ext2, ext3 or ext4) as /data. So, you just have to replace the boot.img in rom zip and flash the rom. You DO-NOT need three partitions as you needed for oc-kernel. You just need two partitions like you always do if you use a memory increasing script.
Thanx @ShadowTR9 for this trick. It's awesome, simple and I'm using it!

Actually not much trouble just detailed instructions. All you have to do is replace boot.img.
I didnt try any other script but most probably Mounts2sd app from market should work just fine

[TOOL]Kernel Flasher from Recovery Mode [V2.0] {Galaxy Y & Galaxy Y Duos}

Hi Guyz I compiled a script that can flash boot.img from CWM Recovery and it will not increaseCustom Bin Count.
You can Install Custom Kernel 1000000 times without increasing your Custom Bin Count.
Thanks to Koush for providing source: https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_device_samsung_bmlunlock
Version 1.0
I have attached below a ZIP.
Replace the boot.img in the zip, with your boot.img, ZIP it and flash from CWM Recovery.
Download V1.0: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=952982&stc=1&d=1332400029
I have tested it many times and it WORKS.
Version 2.0 is here with new features:
•Automatic backup of old boot.img/kernel when you flash a new boot.img/kernel.
The old boot.img can be found afterwards with OLDboot.img name.
•Automatic unmount of sdcard after flashing. (As requested by some users)
•No need to unzip and zip this version, just place this tool and boot.img on root of sdcard and flash tool from Recovery mode.
Instructions:
•To flash kernel/boot.img, just place Boot.img_flasher_V2.0_faqbly_2.zip and your boot.img on the root of your sdcard.
•Boot in CWM Recovery and flash Boot.ing_flasher_V2.0_faqbly_2.zip
•Your OLD boot.img will be backed up as OLDboot.img on your sdcard.
Download V2.0: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=959669&d=1332425118
Both the versions are working perfectly you can use any version you like.
Confirmed by manojranjan2050 to be working on Galaxy Y Duos also.
PRESS THANKS IF YOU LIKE MY WORK.

It is not a KERNEL.
It is a tool to flash Kernel.
V 1.0 Place boot.img in my ZIP file to flash through CWM.
V2.0 Place boot.img and v2.0 ZIP in the root of sdcard and flash through CWM.
It works
Just used this to install "MerrukTechnology Kernel v.0.6 RC 80" and it works flawlessly!
now I'm overclocked

for some odd reason I flashed many times already with ODIN: sometimes flash counter went up, often it remained the same. funny
ui_print("Boot.img flasher by faqbly @xda");
# copying files in ramdisk
package_extract_file("bmlunlock", "bmlunlock");
package_extract_file("boot.img", "boot.img");
set_perm(0, 0, 0755, "bmlunlock");
# mounting the sdcard
mount("vfat", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p1", "/sdcard", "rw");
ui_print("Flashing Boot.img");
# flashing
run_program("bmlunlock");
# back up old kernel to sd card before writing new one
run_program("/system/bin/dd", "if=/dev/block/bml7"), "of=/sdcard/old-boot.img";
unmount("/sdcard");
run_program("/system/bin/dd", "if=boot.img", "of=/dev/block/bml7");
ui_print("Done! Reboot system now!");
that's pretty decent. why no edify-script, which exchanges a kernel: backs up the old one to sd-card and dd's the new one (see above).
it was handily set to rw already ...
at the end of the day we should integrate it into temporary CWM if we have the sources.
Doky73 is thinking about doing that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23766670&postcount=41
nobody could tell me wether the CWM modding sources by Skin1980 or motafoca are available, so we can integrate it with CWM.
a full nandroid should be a bit more automatic than separate fiddling with boot.img . but I think in CWM it inside some C++ binary or sth.
anyhow - this makes kernel testing a real ease, dude ! way cool
---------- Post added at 11:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:31 PM ----------

that's good. Then what about Terma saying that kernel can't be flashed from CWM, as recovery is inside boot.img

Bin count does not increase if you flashed stock files. I've only ever used Odin once, to get back to stock. Count is still 0.
Anyway thanks to faqbly. Haven't tried yet but will come in handy soon. Pressed the button too.

I can confirm Data++ hboot does not work as it constantly in bootloop (over 15min). So recommend to only use stock as the OP suggests.
Also you can activate the built in stock a2sd through terminal. Maybe it good idea for Nikez to stick this in the OP.
Open terminal and run these commands:
su
a2sd install
Answer if you want to move dalvik, appdata and wish to reboot the phone.
Recommended answer is Y N Y.

Memory? Maybe you mean space? Have you activated the built in a2sd? If not it is the likely the cause of your problems with restoring apps.

Slim series ROMs for pico.Inspired from the famous SLIM ROMS by tchaari for high end devices.
Major Advantages
1.Lesser RAM usage
2. Due to less RAM consumption, phone tends to be more alive and less laggy(no laggy is the word!)
3. Overall performance increase by around 3-4 times.
4. These lite ROM's along with any script like Adrenaline Engine, can boost your performance even further
5. Better battery life.
6.Use it like a daily driver!
and lastly the size.I bet it's real slim indeed.
A review that proves it all
Nice work dev(s)... Mostly a stripped version of CM9, but smoother, more responsive, no bugs so far(i have no hopes of finding bugs at all)..
Boot time reduced, M2SD script working fine, very less lag(compared to CM9 latest build)... Faster too.. The ringtone(default) is better than CM9...

what the hell u have permissions for slim all rom? (Like Miui)
And "slim" significte that we can only call and send sms? Lol
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Its up to the developers, they can give permissions or they can keep their work to themselves with no further modifications... once they have have published it to public, its understood that its free to use and customize it anyway, unless they specially mention it in big bold letters sayin "i will not allow anyone tamper my work".
So I AM NOT STEALING ANYONE'S BLOODY DAMN ROM. This is open-source world, u need to be careful with words.
and my idea is not to make only calls and sms.... some of u got it totally wrong.
u can install the applications that i removed from ROM's from play store... what's the point in slowing down the phone [though lag is insignificant], which already has such less ram.. ?if we had at least 512 Mb RAM, I wouldn't care to touch any ROM, least "slim" it...
So u can install the apps that i deleted, in the partition or sd card or whatever.... this saves a lot of space in system, which MAY help the heavy application/game run slightly smoother bcoz of availability of memory..
HOPE MY POINT IS CLEAR..

I just turned 20 yesterday...
As for your script question...
That is a matter of personal preference.. I used to use S2E until I came to know of Mount2SD.. M2SD gives me more options, and running those commands from the terminal, is really cool, makes me feel like a hacker.. Also, I've experienced lesser lag as compared to S2E, coz I have a class 4 card...
And as far as the replacing goes, yes.. I've replaced CM9 with CM9..

About Carbon

CarbonRom is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. We are dedicated to fast, stable, and feature-filled roms, honesty and communication with our users, and openness with our code. We like frequent builds, with the very latest and greatest hardware support and fixes. We strive to not only provide you with the best rom we can build, but also to give back to the Android community and our fellow developers. For us, this is about creating something we can be proud of and hope you will enjoy.
Please feel free to look at, build, and use our code on CarbonDev GitHub.
We would like to thank CyanogenMod for their device trees, framework/settings mods and their code that was incorporated into this project. We also extend our gratitude to the devs whose code that we have incorporated. Proper authorship has been maintained and can be viewed on our repository.
Special thanks also go to Slim Rom for some of their features, PA, AOKP, and anyone else we may have borrowed commits from that hasn't been mentioned here. If you feel you have been unfairly left out, please - let us know.
While we make every effort to test these builds as much as possible, we are not responsible for anything that may happen to your device, family, pets, or perception of reality. We ask that you do your part to know your device and know how to recover from problems before you flash! If you have questions, ask your fellow users or ask us in #teamcarbon on freenode IRC.

Its not an issue. See here u r using sd-system which on sd card as sd ext partition and twrp as well as philz recovery tend to search for su binary in system (the nand one) partition. And obviously recovery cant find it so it giving u no root issue. IGNORE IT. It may say os not install if u r doing sideloading, IGNORE THAT TOO.
Reboot, and if u cant see carbon boot logo then buddy wipe/creat sd-ext partition again.

Well, the heads up which has a problem is the inbuilt one, ofcource using an alternative is a good choice too, but i would suggest waiting for a fix

I don't know why you brought this up but I've tried that and some other Chinese one's, there's a bug in which the videos, gifs etc play with a green,pink tint. That's actually the exact reason why I built this ROM, it also has memory problems
