So i got the otter box defender case and when i put it on after about a week under the "screen protector" that is on the case is covered in dust and hair and its quite a distraction. I read on a few posts to get an actual screen protector on the phone and then put the otter box and it makes a tighter fit allowing the very small gap to be closed and therefore dust can't get in. How ever now i have what looks like moisture from when the screens touch and it has bubbles that I cant get out and its just as much a distraction as the dust and hair
any solutions people have tried
Honestly, I just go for the basic screen protector and take out the plastic version from the otterbox front. Its just glued on, and save it. If you ever feel the need for the front plastic again just call otterbox and they'll do a warrantee swap

That's what I did with my previous phone and Otterbox. I just removed the built in screen protector and applied one that's fixed to the glass.
Got tired of stuffs getting under there and constantly having to open up the case to clean it.

This is the only solution to go with when using an otterbox. :good:
Going to confirm the removal of the Otterbox screen protector. I have a glass protector installed and tried the OB with it and it blew chunks. I had tons of dust, screen response was diminished, and it was just a PITA. Remove the plastic and be happy.

Just in case anybody wanted to know SGP now has a front and back protector and they are dry installs for those who prefer it that way. They're 13.99 which is the same price that you got for the single front protector that they initially started selling. They come in both ultra crystal and and ultra oleophobic.
Here are the links.

They don't feel like rubber. These are not vinyl like material like wet install protectors. They are a harder plastic. I have the front one and it is very smooth to the touch.

They are a dry install which means that once you start putting it down there isn't much room for error. They don't cover 100% of the screen either. They kind of miss out on the curved edges. They are much harder than the BSE and have little to no orange peel effect. They are defiantly flatter and thinner.
I'm sure there won't be any problems with any case because it doesn't go to the edge of the screen.

should work fine. I would say it's probably better than the wet installs. Only thing is some people might not like the front since it doesn't cover the entire glass due to the curves on the sides.

Anyone have this that can comment on if this will prevent the back of my phone from sliding off of everything? I want to go without a case, but need something to prevent the back of my phone from sliding everywhere.
Also, anyone use it extensively with wireless charger notice it if messes up the screen protector at all?
Thanks!
I can see the point in a screen protector for piece of mind as the screen is so important. But can not see why people buy cases they seem to cause more scratches with the dirt trapped in them then anything else?

Yeah.. I've never had a single case cause a scratch? It's usually cheap hard clip cases that cause scratches or some aluminum ones and such. A screen protector is going to do absolutely nothing for your phone when you drop it out of your hand onto the concrete and your screen shatters. Cases actually protect your phone and the screen from otherwise phone ending scenarios.
Screen protectors are just so your pen or your keys in your pocket don't scratch your screen. A case is vital to keeping your phone safe.
If you've never dropped your phone, go on living the hardcore risk taking life,
I'm not breaking my phone I just spent hundreds on. Or messing up its perfect screen.

Use a micro-fiber cloth and clean off your phone and the inside of your case every now and then, and you can eliminate trapped dust. Make sure the micro-fiber cloth itself is relatively clean before you apply it, as you could end up rubbing a dirty cloth filled with sand and debris right into your phone. It sounds more annoying then it really is. At least once a week, spend a few seconds, and your phone will be in good shape and you'll have a TPU still that will save your phone should you drop it or it falls.
if you ever drop it though, the case is kind of needed to help with the impact. i personally rarely drop my phones but this time around im actually paying full retail for it so i figured spend $25 and get a really good thin protective spigen case.

Yes, I personally care more about scratch than impact.
That's why for all my phones without removable battery I did a full body plastic lamination instead.
But I might wanna try the S View Cover when more color comes out. Neo Hybrid seems too fat but I'll use it for a while.
I've never understood cases, people whinge about the design of phones, and then stick them in a even cheaper bit of plastic so you cant even see the design of the phone. Bonkers
I think for this phone it will be required to protect the camera glass/plastic from getting scratch. Unless you can put a plastic shield on it

ive never put a case on my phones.. but they've always been thicker, and smaller screens than this beast.... thats why im going with a case this time. as the screens get bigger they fall harder and im more worried about breaking it
If I'm in the office or around the house, I'll take it off, but generally always leave a thin tpu on.

I didn't have a case for the GS2 since I liked the feel of the back cover, it wasn't slick plastic but textured.
The GS4 has the same plastic cover as the GS1 vibrant and I dislike the oily feel that accumulates over time. So like the Vibrant I'll be putting an ultra thin case like the Spigen Ultra Fit to just cover the back.
Of course, someone had to ask It

I spent $700 on this phone, so I may as well keep it in good condition! Right now I'm using the S View cover, and it adds so little bulk that there's little downside to using it, apart from the cost
Isn't adding little bulk good? Neo Hybrid fattens my phone and might actually make it heavier... I'd get S View if it had other color and wallet slot.

I've seen a Youtube video that shows that's not true. A glass screen protector WILL keep your screen from shattering.

UPS just dropped this off 5 minutes ago. My first impression is that this is the best case for the gs4 for people who want a cover style case. This is the case that Samsung should have made for the gs4. It definitely mimics the curves of the gs4 very well. It has generous port openings that looks to even fit third party adapters. It also has the it blaster port opening. The headphone opening fits all of my headphones such as the vmoda m100, audeo phonak pfe232 and velodyne vpulse. The hinge is made of plastic but this case definitely feels high quality.

Yes you can fold it back all the way. The screen on the case exposes the camera. If you want the camera totally unblocked, then hold the cover halfway open.

Got the black one yesterday and loved the way it looked but shipped it back immediately. I thought "smooth black" would actually feel smooth but instead its kind of rough and almost sticky. Dust and lint immediately stuck to it before I even got the chance to pocket it. The texture was similar to the way the inner casing of otterboxes used to be (after enough complaints about dust and lint sticking to it they finally changed the material to a smoother, more dust free material).
Based on the reviews it seems like that white model is different? If so I may go for that instead. Otherwise the case is pretty slick.

Just noticed you have a screen protector and a flip cover!
Paranoid much?
Seriously man, ditch the screen protector. It takes away from the screen beauty and screws up the tactile smoothness between your finger and screen
Just thought i would let everyone know that right now, you can get the MIME Ghost Glass screen protector for 24.99 shipped. There is a code at the top of their site that gives free shipping in the US. Also, they apparently already have them stocked as i ordered it today and already recieved an email saying it has shipped.
I have had great luck with them in the past, they have curved edges which helps them blend into the bezel seamlessly and like most glass protectors they are simple to install.
Ill give my actual impressions once the phone itself is in hand.
I ordered mine last week. Will be here tomorrow. I'll post some pics and then have a full review up when my phone arrives.

I ordered the Spigen Nano Sling Glas.tR a few days back...
How does MIME compare?
Ghost glass like a transparent?
The feather glass is excellent. The s5 has a lip around the permiter of the screen and the home button is raised. Because the feather is so thin it makes it seem as of the lip never existed and the home button sits totally flush with the screen now also. Someone had voiced concern about the feather glass chipping on the edges to easily. Well I do not see this being an issue on the s5 thanks to the raised lip. Truly could not work more flawlessly. The ghost glass is still an excellent choice. But I think you will get better bang for your buck out of the feather.

it's super thin, BUT still thick enough that the home button is now flush with the surface of the screen - it's no longer raised. you have to press it in more directly now.
not fatal, but odd.

Does anyone know if the Feather version could possible fit in the otterbox defender case after removing the otterbox built in screen protector of course? I've been doing this for the last few defender cases I've used but normally put a ZAGG hd on the phone for protection. I usually do this because the screen protector on the otterbox usually scratches and tends to lose some clarity over time and that is a great annoyance to me. What's the point in having that beautiful HD screen and can't see it clearly due to the screen protector not being clear or at least as clear as it should be.

really good actually, i find that my screen looks very vribrant and shiny without mutch notice of prints or dust. I also have the tech21 tactical case, great combo, very thin, easy to take on and off, the tech21 sits very well at the edges of the glass (no wierd halo effect like cheap screen protectors) - i work at tmobile and had the option to try out out several different screen protectors and the tech21 beats the rest by a pretty wide margin. ive never heard of the brand before but damn do they do a good job.
Additional note! the screen remains incredibly clear and HD through the screen protector, virtually no diminishing of the original screen quality and oddly enough (i cant get my brain past it) it appears the screen actually looks better with this screen protector, i have no clue why, but i spend A LOT of time around this phone and other peoples note 4's and its a pretty noticeable difference
My best guess is that this screen protector succesfully protrudes the surface of the screen to give it a flatter more 2D feel with a possibly magnification? either way it looks amazing and feels great to the touch and the stylus flows extremely consistently over the entire surface of the protector.
Looks like a great find ccheww...! Will buy one Monday...

No prob, its pretty dusty, this is a few months of use so i wanted to leave it dirty to give you guys an idea of what it looks like after a few months.
notice that the note 4 itself collects more dust than the edges of the screen protector, also note how insanely perfectly shiny the protector is after a few months of use and being tossed around in my pocket with keys and headphones and dimes and nickles and lighters and jeans.
the bezel around my note 4 is more scratched than the screen itself... and its been in a case since day one.
I apologize for the poor image quality, taken with a note 10.1 2014 edition and pretty hard to hold upright like a camera

How does it feel? Does it feel similar to the Note 4 screen? Is it smooth and your finger glides easily? Does it have oleophobic coating?

yes, it has a very smooth feeling, the s pen works great on it and quiet frankly i think it allows your finger to slide better than the original screen underneath. the reflowing polymer is almost feels like your finger oil is already on the screen and glides like a slice a butter on a frying pan.
as you can see in the pics below the case has a very thin front wrap so the screen still has the comfortable protruding feeling that everyone wants (ie the note and iphone with 2.5D glass)
T-Mobile has the case for 34.99 (same price directly from tech21) and 34.99 for the screen protector. Together with T-Mobile these can be put on your bill for an unnoticeable amount.
its 70 for both, tax is like 6.50 and its then only 3 more dollars a month to your bill, less than tax haha.
1 year warranty offered through courtesy of Tech21. have not seen a single person come back and complain about it. literally.
There was a post with pictures on the early pages of this thread (sorry, don't have time to locate it) from a forum member (IIRC name was Pedro....) who had installed the Tech 21 screen protector & was using a Tech 21 case. The protector had installed w/o a halo. IIRC he had purchased both at a T-Mo store & at the time the protector was not available yet on Tech 21's website. Between the price and the fact it was not 9h tempered glass the following posts by other forum members pretty much dismissed the Tech 21 as a viable choice. Obviously it's a very viable choice. Pedro.... stopped contributing to this thread & my take on that is he had found a completely satisfactory solution that others dismissed & no longer found a reason to follow this thread.
Some 250 pages later on this thread apparently none of us should have dismissed the Tech 21 as a viable choice.
