fastboot is working... but fastboot usb stopped working...
i accidentally did a factory reset while trying to fix my error on flashing a custom rom. )':

You haven't described your full problem with anywhere near enough detail, so I'm gonna guess.
You've corrupted your sd card by doing the factory reset. Enter recovery and select mount, connect your phone to the pc, mount usb storage, format sd card to fat32 in Windows then you can copy a ROM across to flash. You're gonna need to work out why fastboot isn't working so you can flash the boot.img though because you're s-on.

ive got fastboot usb working again. ill try what you mentioned. do you know the the recovery i need to flash?

Download TWRP 2.6 from here. Put the file in your fastboot folder. Connect phone in fastboot mode, open command prompt from within fastboot folder, issue the following commands:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery "filename.img"
(the exact filename, minus the talking marks)
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now you have TWRP recovery on your phone.

sorry, i forgot to say i had TWRP working.
i just cant seem to get a rom working for the life of me.

Are you remembering to flash the boot.img via fastboot after installing the ROM?

i was trying venom... someone directed me to this forum.
even though my device says envita... i couldve swore it was quad core with tegra 3. i cant look it up because og my situation though, i havent been able to boot up past recovery in hours.

If it says Evita it's definitely the dual core. You might have a bad download, have you checked the md5?

im just looking for anything that will make it work again. i think i messed up trying the other forums ROMs. i gotta fix that kernel problem.

You need to make sure you only download ROMs from this forum, you're very lucky you didn't brick. Try one from here and make sure you flash the boot.img and it should work.

im almost finished dowloading one now.
thanks for your help... i thought i was screwed.

[Q] Help!! Can't flash new ROMs!

Hey guys, I'm on an HTC One X (AT&T) (evita). I'm currently running ViperXL, but it's very glitchy and often restarts or loses signal. I was previously running CM10 and went through a bit of trouble flashing this ROM. I kept getting the message "Installation Aborted" with no status error when i tried to flash and am experiencing the same problem now. I know i've been using the correct ROMs for the evita version not the endeavoru version (or however it's spelled). I think what I did when I transitioned from CM10 to ViperXL was factory reset from the bootloader (accidentally pressed the volume button too many times), then reloaded CWM onto my phone, factory reset, wiped the cache/dalvik, and flashed. But, now I'm getting the installation aborted messages again and I don't plan on factory resetting (i doubt that helped in the process before anyway). I'm thinking that I would need to unroot then reroot to fix this problem, but I'm fairly noob so I'm not sure. I also believe that I lost the back up of the stock ROM and i'm not sure how much that has screwed me over.
Never factory reset from bootloader, all it does is corrupt your sd card. Please provide more details, what are your current bootloader details? Which recovery version are you using?

Try changing recovery to TWRP, I'm not sure if it's going to help but it's worth a shot. Here's how:

Code:
fastboot flash recovery "filename.img"

Now you can enter recovery on your phone.

No it shouldn't matter, so you're saying you haven't formatted the sd card since corrupting it? You'll need to do that.

Enter TWRP recovery, select mount from the menu, connect phone to pc, select mount usb storage, the card will now show up in Windows, try to access it and it'll prompt you to format it, select fat32 format and wait for it to finish.

Reboot the phone and hold volume down while it's rebooting, this will take you to the bootloader, from there you can enter recovery and restore a backup or flash ROM.
What ROM were you on and what kernel did you flash?

eehm nop, so how i do that? from where i can get the boot.img and how can flash via fastboot?
Sorry for my noob questions
The boot.img can be found in the root of the ROM zip, unzip it on your pc and you'll see it straight away. You then need to copy the boot.img into the folder where adb and fastboot are. Then open a command prompt from within that folder (shift + right click anywhere in that folder, select open command prompt here), put your phone into bootloader mode and connect it to the pc, then issue this command in the command prompt:
Code:
fastboot devices
It should return your device serial number, this confirms that you're connected properly. If it doesn't return the serial number you need to work out why. If it does return the serial number you can issue this command:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Now you can enter recovery on your phone, flash the ROM, and reboot the phone. Now it should boot up.

Have you tried RUUing back to stock and re-rooting?
Mount usb storage in TWRP recovery and format (fat32) the sd in Windows. It looks as though you've done a factory reset in bootloader at some point which corrupts the sd card. Once you've done that I'd suggest trying to flash another ROM, if you still have problems you'll probably need to RUU as Rolltribe suggested.

I tried mounting SD card and formating, using twrp and cwm. To try the RUU is that something that is done through fastboot USB?

Having about the same issue on my phone. I have TWRP 2.5 on there. Tried to re-install viperxl and it goes through the install OK and then just boot loops.
Tried to use the RUU listed above and it fails with an error code of "Error 159 image error"
The RUU is going from Image version 2.20.502.7 to image ver 3.18.502.6
I had a different error with another RUU image I downloaded from HTC but didn't take notes on error.
Any idea's?

You could start over by running he 3.18 RUU. Sounds like you borked up your recovery/boot partitions. You're s-off and super cid, so your good to go with the ruu. After that, reinstall recovery, per timmaaa's instructions above. Then flash ROM through twrp. Got it. Good.

Try following method 2 in this guide( through updating via PG58IMG.zip file) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599816. Be carefule about the md5 checksum of the recovery image. Double check before flashing!!
After this, boot into recovery(from the bootloader menu, select appropriate superuser.zip file(for rooting, search xda ...there are many options) and flash root. You now have a custom recovery and are rooted. Now you can flash any custom rom.
All the above assuming you can somehow transfer files to your SD card through a card reader or any other means...
NOTE: Delete the PG58IMG.zip after flashing recovery.

Still won't work. I have tried flashing stock firmwares, stock and non-stock recoveries, reflashing root.zip, restore from known good backups, nothing has worked. Phone is stuck at first HTC logo screen and will go no further, and with no USB connectivity, it's impossible for me to flash even PG58IMGs' because the phone is S-on.
Maybe this could work for you...just a suggestion

Ok, from your reply i gather that even though you transferred the PG581MG to your SD card, the phone did not update when your got to the bootloader menu. I do not think being S-ON will prevent you from installing from the zip file...but maybe i am wrong. Hey now all i can think is this:
Turn off your phone, remove the battery, wait for some time(~10seconds), then put the battery back in. Now press Power +Vol down switch together. Now at the boot loader menu select Fastboot and press Power button. Connect your phone to your PC now and wait. The check if the next screen shows 'FASTBOOT USB'.
If you get 'FASTBOOT USB' in the next screen, then you have multiple options, but for you i would suggest that you download the latest RUU for the phone depending on your region and cid. Then run the ruu while the device is still in FASTBOOT USB mode. This will restore your phone's firmware recovery and rom back to stock.
But if your phone does not show fastboot usb then i'm stumped dude...maybe the experts here in our sensation community will be able to help out....
All the best ...and report if anything improves...
