[Q] Help!! Can't flash new ROMs! - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hey guys, I'm on an HTC One X (AT&T) (evita). I'm currently running ViperXL, but it's very glitchy and often restarts or loses signal. I was previously running CM10 and went through a bit of trouble flashing this ROM. I kept getting the message "Installation Aborted" with no status error when i tried to flash and am experiencing the same problem now. I know i've been using the correct ROMs for the evita version not the endeavoru version (or however it's spelled). I think what I did when I transitioned from CM10 to ViperXL was factory reset from the bootloader (accidentally pressed the volume button too many times), then reloaded CWM onto my phone, factory reset, wiped the cache/dalvik, and flashed. But, now I'm getting the installation aborted messages again and I don't plan on factory resetting (i doubt that helped in the process before anyway). I'm thinking that I would need to unroot then reroot to fix this problem, but I'm fairly noob so I'm not sure. I also believe that I lost the back up of the stock ROM and i'm not sure how much that has screwed me over.

Never factory reset from bootloader, all it does is corrupt your sd card. Please provide more details, what are your current bootloader details? Which recovery version are you using?

Yeah haha factory resetting was a complete accident
my bootloader reads:
****tampered****
****unlocked****
evita pvt ship s-on rl
hboot-1.14.0002
radio-0.19as.32.09.11_2
opendsp-v29.1.0.45.0622
emmc-boot
and im running clockwork mod v5.8.3.1 touch

Try changing recovery to TWRP, I'm not sure if it's going to help but it's worth a shot. Here's how:
Download TWRP 2.6 from here. Put the file in your fastboot folder. Connect phone in fastboot mode, open command prompt from within fastboot folder, issue the following commands:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery "filename.img"
(the exact filename, minus the talking marks)
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now you can enter recovery on your phone.

I followed these steps but I cannot create a backup of my current rom in TWRP. It says its unable to locate the storage device and mount /cache

Have you formatted your sd card since corrupting it?

No, did the "erase cache" command cause the problem im having with my phone being unable to mount the cache?

No it shouldn't matter, so you're saying you haven't formatted the sd card since corrupting it? You'll need to do that.

How do you format the sd card?

Enter TWRP recovery, select mount from the menu, connect phone to pc, select mount usb storage, the card will now show up in Windows, try to access it and it'll prompt you to format it, select fat32 format and wait for it to finish.

I cant access the SD card. I get a "found new hardware" notification for an "htc mtp device" but I'm not sure how to access it. Its not showing up as removable storage. I'm on windows XP, should i try on a mac?

[Q] AT&T HTC One X Unable to get past hboot/fastboot

Hi - first time posting, but I've benefited from many a XDA thread in the past. I'm hopeful that someone can help me.
I tried to put CyanogenMod on my AT&T HTC One X, and was able to unlock the bootloader and put a new boot/recovery image on it. After that, I got into a boot loop and haven't been able to get into recovery since. I've tried flashing new boot.img, new recovery (CyanogenMod and TWRP) and even though I can pause the boot loop to get to the bootloader, it won't let me into recovery.
HBOOT is 2.14, and I can get fastboot connectivity from my computer.
Any ideas/help?
Try flashing TWRP recovery again via fastboot, then I've that's finished flashing give this command:
fastboot erase cache
Then:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now try to enter recovery.

Just tried that, and no dice. Just keeps on rebooting. If I select the RECOVERY option, it just reboots again - never enters recovery.

No, not s-off. I tried that, but I can't get it to boot into Android (after I flash the RUU zip and try to boot, it shows "FAILED (status read failed (Too many links))".

An RUU isn't a zip, it's an exe program. If you don't have s-off you shouldn't do it anyway.

Yes, if you are s-on and try to run the 3.18 RUU, you will brick. You can't run an older RUU, due to your hboot version (2.14) and s-on.

So, I downloaded a fresh version of TWRP per the Evita guide on CyanogenMod, and was able to get into recovery. Thanks for the tip!
Problem is, now I'm unable to flash a ROM because I can't mount /sdcard. I've tried other recoveries, but none of them will mount it, either. Tips?

Did you do a factory reset from bootloader? If so, you've corrupted it and it'll need to be formatted. Go into TWRP recovery, connect to pc, select mount, then mount usb storage. Now you'll need to format it in Windows to fat32 format.

[Q] AT&T HTC One X completely formatted, Need Help

Hi, I did a terrible mistake but i think it can be fixed
I rooted and installed TWRP (Recovery), after trying a few times to install CM10 and getting stuck on the CM10 loading screen for 30-35 minutes, i came to XDA and learned that i should wipe cache/dalvik/sys, and try again.
I did a mistake and wiped everything from my phone and i don't have any backups ... Using the TWRP i mounted my phone to my computer and added CM10.zip file to try again, but it still shows nothing in my SD Card while in TWRP.
I can reboot and go to recovery.
Can anyone suggest or help me with that?
Did you unmount your sd card after copying the ROM across?
PS. Questions go in the q&a section. I'll ask for this to be moved for you.

yes i did, but still it doesn't show it there.
i went back to MOUNT and it does show the ROM there, but when I Unmount and try to find the zip through the Recovery, it shows 0 files.
What does it show on your phone display when you enter the mount menu in recovery? Can you post an image?

There's definitely something wrong there. I've seen people having problems with that version of TWRP, go back to the 2.6.0 version and try again.

ohh,
so i tried downgrading the TWRP 2.6.3 to 2.6 through fastboot. It doesn't recognize my device when i connect it.
Its stuck on <waiting for the device> in CMD.
I connected the phone while it was OFF, didn't work, went to recovery and connected it, still didn't work.
The method i am using to downgrade:
1. fastboot getvar store
2. Connect the phone while its OFF
3. fastboot flash recovery c:/*directory*/*recovery name*.img
4. fastboot reboot
You need to be booted into the bootloader for fastboot commands to work.

If your drivers are installed correctly and you're connecting in fastboot mode the fastboot commands should work. Try uninstalling HTC drivers and installing them again.

I'm not sure seeing as I don't really know what he's done. It looks like he's relocked your bootloader though. Why on earth did you let someone who has no idea what they're doing mess with your phone? I think you're better off returning the phone to stock and leaving it that way.

Hello! Something like that happened to me. I choose the option of "factory reset" into the phone first menu (not the TWRP menu) and it left useless the "SD CARD". In order to revert, you have to enter to TWRP menu, choose mount (I think), then choose mount SD and connect to PC. The PC will say that your card is not readable and you must format it to be read. Do it!, I did a fast format and it was enough. Then put in the phone memory (the just formated memory) the desireded ROM (I am using URdroid which is great). And enter TWRP again to flash the rom following the instructions for the choosen ROM. It will fix your problem.

I have att one x evita. too long to explain everything i have tried but here is where i am

I currently have CLOCKWORK RECOVERY going on, I have wiped, installed from SD the CM10.2 nightly i want to install, installs with no errors, installed gapps again no errors.
unit bootloops on HTC screen, I tried again same thing only this time fastboot flashed the boot.img file, tried before and after the rom install.
Tried all the same steps from most current version TWRP.....Im lost, what should i try next.
Also i have no file structure if you mount the storage from recovery i was empty and said it need to be formatted to be used, put it in FAT32. Made it usable, copied the CM ROM directly to the root of mounted drive, since there were no folders or anything in it.
Would love some help please.....im pulling my hair out

Have you tried RUUing back to stock and re-rooting?
Mount usb storage in TWRP recovery and format (fat32) the sd in Windows. It looks as though you've done a factory reset in bootloader at some point which corrupts the sd card. Once you've done that I'd suggest trying to flash another ROM, if you still have problems you'll probably need to RUU as Rolltribe suggested.

I tried mounting SD card and formating, using twrp and cwm. To try the RUU is that something that is done through fastboot USB?

Having about the same issue on my phone. I have TWRP 2.5 on there. Tried to re-install viperxl and it goes through the install OK and then just boot loops.
Tried to use the RUU listed above and it fails with an error code of "Error 159 image error"
The RUU is going from Image version 2.20.502.7 to image ver 3.18.502.6
I had a different error with another RUU image I downloaded from HTC but didn't take notes on error.
Any idea's?
TWRP 2.5 is your problem, it's full of bugs. Download TWRP 2.6 from here. Put the file in your fastboot folder. Connect phone in fastboot mode, open command prompt from within fastboot folder, issue the following commands:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery "filename.img"

Code:
fastboot erase cache
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now you can enter recovery on your phone and flash again and you should be fine.

HTC Bricked?

So I think my HTC One X is bricked. It says "No OS" when I'm in TWRP. I downloaded the ViperXL ROM so I can install it again onto my phone but I can't transfer the files to my phone. When I connect my phone into my computer, it says there is no driver or the driver cannot be installed even though I already installed all the updated drivers for it. So is there anyway for me to get the ViperXL ROM on my phone so I can use it again? Thanks,
Your phone isn't bricked, if it powers on at all it isn't a brick. More information needed though. What are your bootloader details? Which recovery version are you using? Is the mount usb storage option in the recovery not working?

I did a factory reset in both. And the version is also v2.4.1.0. Thanks,
Ok, there's half your problem. Don't ever perform a factory reset from the bootloader because doing that in a modified Evita causes the sd card to become corrupted. The other half of your problem is your recovery version, TWRP 2.4.x and 2.5.x are buggy and shouldn't be used. Download TWRP 2.6 from here.
Put the file in your fastboot folder. Connect phone in fastboot mode, open command prompt from within fastboot folder, issue the following commands:
Code:

Now go into TWRP and select wipe, then advanced wipe, check sd card/internal storage and wipe it. Now try mounting it to your PC.

[Q] Unable to install any custom ROM

Hey there!
I'm pretty new to the Android platform. I've been on iOS for many years.
I already flashed a custom firmware on a Moto G, which worked fine. (SlimKat)
I thought about doing the same thing with my HTC One X.
GSM version (Model: PJ83100)
Current device state:
*** TAMPERED ***
*** UNLOCKED ***
EVITA PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.14.0000
RADIO-0.23a.32.01.29
OpenDSP-v31.1.0.45.0815
eMMC-boot
Nov 26 2012, 18:37:14:-1
Unlike the Moto G Bootloader, I'm unable to erase any partition but the cache. Example:
./fastboot erase system
erasing 'system'...
FAILED (remote: not allowed)
I am not able to boot into the OS or the recovery partition anymore, so they have probably been wiped. When I reboot the device, it's either a boot loop or it simply shuts down.
I already tried to flash CWM and TWRP. Each of those were successful, at least according to the terminal... Unfortunately, same thing happens when the phone reboots (unable to access recovery).
I also tried to flash SlimKat with the "./fastboot flash zip file_name.zip" command, even if it isn't supposed to work (I believe). It wasn't successful.
In despair, I flashed the boot image from the ROM but still without result.
I did all of those in the FastBoot window and on the RUU mode (./fastboot oem rebootRUU).
Both stuck at the same points.
If anyone knows how to fix this, it would be really appreciated.
All the posts related to the issue did not help me in any ways.
Thank you!
You need to work out why your recovery flashes aren't working, you need a custom recovery to install custom ROMs on this device, flashing them through fastboot will not work. Can you explain in detail and step by step the method you use to flash the recovery please?

I redownloaded the file from the internet so it can't be corrupted twice.
I believe that I also tried with CWM with same results.
None of those even want to boot.
And now since yesterday, I'm not even able to boot my phone.
I contacted HTC and their hard reset procedure did nothing.

I redownloaded the file from the internet so it can't be corrupted twice.
I believe that I also tried with CWM with same results.
None of those even want to boot.
And now since yesterday, I'm not even able to boot my phone.

It can be corrupted twice, it can be corrupted a thousand times in a row, that's why you need to check the md5 like I suggested. Did you do that??
Forget what HTC have to say, any advice they would give is irrelevant for a modified device. In fact, if you've performed a factory reset from the bootloader you've also just corrupted your sd card.

I'm not sure how to verify the md5. You want me to verifiy the file on the computer or after is has been transfered to the phone?
Like I said, I'm not able to do a factory reset from the bootloader as all "format erase --partiton--" return in errors.
These commands helped me to corrrectly install Slimkat on my Moto G, but how can you do the same when it's not possible to wipe the phone in any ways? From the recovery partition, that would be possible. I'm able to flash the recovery, but not to access it. As this said, I'm really stuck.
The One X does not have a SD card btw. At least, there look to be no slot for it.
Thank you!

Ok, you don't know how to verify the md5, but you can overcome that problem by using Google to search how to do it.
So you've attempted a factory reset from the bootloader, it gave you errors, and it has corrupted your sd card.
I'm aware that this device doesn't have an sd card slot, it has internal memory (or a virtual sd card), which is commonly referred to as the sd card.
