Best cheap or versatil android phone - Android General

What would be my best bet for the money on a cheap android phone to use with the net10 plans? I mean a phone with good hardware and performance that could be rooted and flashed with some roms from here.

Wow I've never heard of those. Are they available in America?
I was hoping for 4G LTE and if possible at least 1gb of ram.
I've seen the Pantech Flex P8010 but don't know if that is a good choice and if it is supported here.
Note:The specs for the jiayu seems impressive for a phone I've never heard of.

They got a huge community, but mainly in Spanish and Russian
They both got 1gb ram and 3g, but you should check network compatibility in America

Can anyone suggest a good cheap option for a cell phone in America that is supported here on XDA?

Thanks for your reply but the Nexus is not exacly cheap. I do have read lots of good things about it.

I vote Nexus 4 too, or a Sony Xperia U, love both of them!

I use THL W100 $154, So far, there is no big problem.

The phone looks great and the specs are nice but I'm in America and would be using At&t network through Net10 provider. At&t uses 4G LTE technology. How would one this phone behave in terms of data speed used in ATT network?

[Q] What is the most High-Tech 3.7 inch Android Phone?

Hello everyone,
i am apearantly one of the very, very few people who don't think "bigger is better".
I am in the market to replace my aging T-Mobile G1.
I have played around with some of the phones my friends have (4" Galaxy S, 4,3" Desire HD) and find them freakishly large, nothing to comfortably put in my pocket.
Looking at new releases seeing 4.3, 4.5, 4.7 inch devices i can not see myself being comfortable with any of these monsters.
Seeing as my G1 lasted me about 3 years i'd like to find a phone which isn't horribly underpowered by even todays standards to last me at least 2 years again, so what i'm looking for is:
- GSM /HSPA(+) phone usable in europe (germany to be precise)
- Screen between 3.5 - 3.9 inch (3.7 idealy)
- fastest CPU/GPU available in this form factor (idealy dual core)
- as much ram as possible.
- front camera (if possible)
Hope Anyone can help, because all i came up with are Nexus One / Desire / Desire S, and i feel there should be better options than 1 Ghz Qualcom Single Cores with Adreno 200/205.
EDIT (Nov. 12th, 2011):
------------------------
The (prelimenary) Winner here is the T-Mobile US exclusive "MyTouch 4G slide".
It is working on all Bands used by every single provider in germany, namely:
GSM: 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
HSPA: 1900 / 2100
and has a dual core 1.2 GHz Processor aswell as 768 MB RAM.
PLEASE - if you can point me to a place where i can buy a unlocked "MyTouch 4G slide" that will ship overseas to europe, let me know.
*BUMP*
bump, bringing it back from page #6
On the HTC side, it is likely that the Desire S is your only option.
heh, my problem is that i only realy found HTC 3.7 inchers, i was looking for any others, but couldn't realy find any

Ok, Thanks - 1.4 GHz singlecore is a step in the right direction, if only there was a dual core in 3.7 inch
No dualcore in 3.7"
Xperia Arc, Neo ?

Thanks for the suggestions, but the Arc is a 4.2 Inch Phone, the Neo certainly has a 3.7" Screen, but comes with the same QSD8255 1GHz Snapdragon like the Desire S, but with only 2/3 of its RAM.
Many four inchers now are almost the same size wih the older 3.7 ones... you might reconsider.
Edit: eg; moto atrix close in size to iPhone 4s

WE HAVE A (potential) WINNER, PEOPLE!
After doing some more digging i finaly found a 3.7 inch dual core smartphone.
The 'HTC Doubleshot' aka 'MyTouch 4G slide' sold by T-Mobile US has a 1.2 Ghz Dual Core Snapdragon and 768 MB of RAM. In Addition to that it also has a full QUERTY Keyboard, nice plus there.
According to the Spec-Sheet on GSMArena ( http://www.gsmarena.com/t_mobile_mytouch_4g_slide-4018.php ) it supports all 4 GSM / 2G Bands used in germany, as well as HSPA on both of the 3G/3.5G (yeah, in europe HSPA+ is 3.5G, not "Faux-G" aka non LTE/Wimax 4G) Bands used by the german providers, namely 1900/2100.
So that means full operation is possible on EVERY german Cell Provider.
Now for the hard part:
The MyTouch 4G slide is a T-Mobile US exclusive and won't EVER come to Europe i was told by HTC Germany.
So......can anyone point me to a place where i can buy a MyTouch 4G slide, unlocked, with overseas shipping to europe?

EBay would probably be your best bet. As far as unlocking is concerned, you might be able to buy it unlocked or take it to a vendor who will do it for you for a small fee. Failing that, get a Galaxy W

Best QWERTY phone

I currently have a HTC Desire Z, but recently discovered I was sent the wrong model by the seller on eBay so I can't get full 3G coverage where I live. My network of choice has full 850Mhz 3G coverage and 2100Mhz around the cities, so my HTC works near the cities but can't pickup 850Mhz everywhere else.
Ideally if I could find a Desire Z from Bell in canada I would buy that as it has 850Mhz support but they seem to be hard to find. The eBay seller I'm dealing with offered a Motorola Droid 3 as a replacement, but this seems to have a lack of support in terms of development.
My question is, what is a good QWERTY android that can run on 850Mhz 3G networks? And also is the Motorola Droid 3 any good compared to the HTC Desire Z?
Droid 3 is waaay better in terms of specs against the desire z. Dual core CPU clocked at 1 ghz vs an 800 mhz single core. Bigger screen, better resolution, double the ram, better camera.
But you're right about development. Desire z is wildly popular and droid 3 has nowhere near that amount of dev support

Galaxy s3 international or s3 Dual-core

So I am going to get an unlocked S3, but the US version is a dual-core with 2GB ram,
and the international version is a quad-core with 1GB of ram.
I use my phone extensively, like hotspots on, while phone calls, texts, browsing, etc etc is a must.
I have the s2, and it runs smooth as a dual-core. So which version would be most benificial?
I personally believe the extra memory, with a dual-core is better because not many app/games even utilize a dual-core to full potential, let alone a quad-core.
But a quad core phone!!!!!! Who wouldn't want that!!!!
Someone please help me out, with some intelligent banter. I'm stuck.

In daily usage, there is no difference between the quad and dual core versions.
But when you start playing super heavy games, you notice the difference. The quad core is indeed faster.
But you never said you played hardcore games so the dual core is for you. It also has the LTE advantage.

I was doing more research and found out that the international version does not work for T-Mobile 4g speeds. So How does one go about knowing if a non international version (US version) will work with T-Mobile 4g?
I am looking at phones from Amazon, I have a gift card.
I wonder if tmobile 4g is compatible with
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
T-mobile 3g/4g operates on the 1700 and 2100 spectrum.
The t-mobile sgs3 definitely has 4g support for it, and the at&t version lacks the hardware to support it.
For 4g and 3g on t-mobile, your only option is the buy the t-mobile variant

This has the same freq. Band at T-Mobile I think...
Its a Galaxy Note...

I'm just looking to get the highest quality phone that works with T-Mobile, like an S3, I'm even willing to try the Note, I just don't want to buy one then not be able to use it on my contract.

Samsung Australia Processor Confirmed

Hello. I have just read an article on Cnet stating:
Samsung told*CNET Australia:
""Samsung Australia is today confirming that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be available in Australia with the quad-core 1.9 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Series 600 processor and 4G LTE compatibility.
Globally, the majority of GS4 LTE versions will come with Qualcomm's Snapdragon, while 3G versions will be equipped with Samsung Exynos.""
That would seem to suggest that the Exynos' power requirements when combined with a long-term evolution (LTE) modem are too much of a pressure on the battery.

It seems that there is some confusion over the capabilities of the dual SIM slots. My understanding is that they will both handle 2G but only one will handle 3G and then only for one Chinese network. It seems to me that this is not a shortcoming of the MTK6589T chip but rather a decision made by Xaiomi. on what and how they will enable these ports.
Anyone have any better understanding or news on this?
I'm looking for a cheap nice chinese smartphone, but I want it can be rooted, because I love tweaking, flashing... Can this be rooted?

What bands does It support? Chinese phones often lack proper UTMS support. Need 850/900/2100mhz as a minimum..

There is the standard dual sim version of hongmi that supports GSM frequencies (900 / 1800 / 1900) and TD-SCDMA that AFAIK works in China only. They say there will be a white version too that is going to support W-CDMA frequencies :victory:

That's correct as far as I can tell.. no W-CDMA on the Red Rice. I ordered mine (I am happy with 2G only considering the other specs - I mostly use wi-fi) a month ago from www.ibuygou.com and am still waiting with no firm indication of when it will be despatched. Seems they are in very short supply.
For those wondering here is a direct link from the address above.

I live in the US and use Tmobile, would love to see a WCDMA version in black. Had a friend from China visit and its a sweet little device especially for the price. Can't go wrong. I know I could buy the current model and only get 2G/Edge from it. But really hoping a wcdma model sees the light of day.

Can you ask your friend to buy it for me in China and then send it to me? The online shops are killing us with the price! -.-
i think a 2g and a 3g in dual sim is the hardware limitation on mtk device..
but u could find rom with 3g swap capabilities so u can choose which sim that have the g3 without changing the sim card position
