[Q] miui - General Questions and Answers

I installed miui on my sprint galaxy nexus which works great with the exception of using handscent sms, when I send mms using handscent or any other mms app the photo I try to send just vanishes without a trace on miui! it will send regular text though, the crazy part to this is if I use the stock 4.1.1 rom running the fh05 radio my factory mms works!i flashed the fh05 radio on several other roms and the mms still wont work unless I use handscent, since I bought my sprint nexus the mms has never once worked unless I use an app of some kind,i have used several different roms and never had a problem using mms apps such as go sms pro,go sms for some reason after an update no longer works at all on my phone sending mms so I bought handscent,,i love the miui and its my rom of choice but do to the issue of sprint and mms I cant use the rom,ive tried apn settings which did no good, what can I do to use an app such as handscent on miui so I can send mms?im not actually a noob at working with phones but im new to this board,

No one must have had any idea how to fix the above problem.I flashes CyanogenMod 10.1.3 stable and I really liked this ROM! Great work guys! I just installed the lean kernel to go along with the cyanogenmod and I had to share my results! I tested my phone using quadrant and antutu before and after the lean kernel was installed and my phone rated at the top of the list from being 2nd from the bottom! The only setting I changed in the new kernel was the governed to interactivex.I have 2 of these phones set up exactly alike except the kernel.I'll. Post the battery life changes after I compare them as is with no voltage changes as of yet! Thanks again for such an awesome ROM from the cyanogenmod team! I also wish to thank the makers of the lean kernel and the guys who run this board! If it wasn't for xda my phone wouldn't be rockin like it is today!!

Having Some Issues

My GF has had get Glacier for about a month and she's having 2 really weird problems.
1. Whenever she gets an MMS, when she goes to open it mms.apk force closes.
Tried a factory reset to fix this but no good. Maybe replacing the mms.apk with a fresh copy would help?
2. She will randomly stop receiving SMS messages until she reboots the phone.
Again a factory reset did nothing and there is no pattern to it happening.
The phone is running the stock 2.2.1 (build 1.17.531.2) rooted and s=OFF.
Any ideas?
Vibrant + Darky 9.3 VE[EDT] + OverStock v2 Kernel + KA7 Modem via XDA App
I've read that people have had issues with the stock ROM once rooted, random force closes and such, but I never experienced them first hand in the couple of weeks before I switched ROMs. You could try the stock nandroid in these forums, restore to that and see if it helps.
ill try that. hopefully it works because I'm trying to avoid giving her a custom ROM.
I was rooted on the stock rom for about a week or so with no problems. I recently flashed the royal glacier rom on top of it without any wipes and everything has been great full functionality fora few days now..... sorry to hear of your problem .....
Change of subject but please take a minute and click the link below to try and stop the tmo at&t merger.
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/2/stop-t-mobile-from-being-bought-by-att/.......
as mentioned, stock rooted has a lot of issues...sometimes
if you dont want a custom rom, try iced glacier unthemed or royalglacier
both are roms that are identical to stock except deodexed, de-bloated, and optimized for speed
for functionality purposes, those roms are stock

Team royal yup just give her royal glacier 1.2 . Apply it right over the stock rooted rom without wipes.... make a backup of course

I had the same problem with my replacement phone, I ended up just switching to Handcent SMS... I haven't had a problem since. I also like how customizable the UI is.
Sweet. Thanks for all the replies. Had a feeling the issue was the stock ROM. Was trying to avoid custom ROMs due to potential bugs and such so its good to know there are some stock+tweaks ROMs. I'll be flashing royal glacier this weekend when I see here.
Thanks again!
so I flashed royal glacier and it I'm still getting force closes of mms.apk as we as randomly stop receiving text messages until I reboot the phone. same problem as the stock ROM
think the problem may be the phone itself?

Could be, but try Orange Glacier by Faux123, it's another form of straight stock but optimized to be quicker, just make sure you read the OP and flash with newest version of clockwork.
Also you could try editing your APN settings, sometimes (mostly on cyanogen or some other non-stock ROM) it helps to change them. I think you can find edits on the CM7 FAQ thread.
Another note, I did the same for my girlfriend, well almost. I made her read and research rooting and why and how to do it, then helped her so she could change little things (google search instead of genius button, battery mods, debloat, etc.) and she hasn't had any issues with anything and is still on stock. For texting she uses Handcent, maybe trying a different service or changing settings in the stock version would help...

I rooted via gfree, and stuck with the stock rom for some time. I didn't run into any issues. I don't use stock messaging though...
She uses ChompSMS. I'll check into the APN settings and/or try Orange Glacier. Will report back if the issue persists though by then I'll prolly just have tmo replace the phone.

Chomp in the past has been on and off for me, but I like it more than Handcent even if it seems a bit less stable. I'm on Orange Glacier using Chomp (paid to remove ads/support) currently and I've only had one or two issues with mms in the past month, but since I turned on delivery report about a week ago it's been perfect. Good luck!

recommend a rom for me

i just traded my htc vivid for my bros samsung infuse. I loved the vivid but my bro wants it and infuse was mine in the first place. did some swapping around with my brothers. I just hate the stock rom and all the bloatwares. Can someone recomment a smooth stable rom for the infuse? also one that can tether.
Which Rom is a personal preferance.
I currently run F1 Innovation, Fast, Stable and smooth. Not sure about tethering.
F1 Innovation
Check out the super thread: Infuse Super Thread
The current miui does tethering very stable and fast. Also the battery drain seems to be fixed which is a huge plus.

Still i haven't installed it but I read that CyanogenMod 7 works flawlessly on the Infuse. I read you can use it to connect usb devices to your phone so i guess it can do pretty anything, tethering included.
The only thing that seems to work crappy is audio through bluetooth but i bet it's not a big problem : bluetooth is one of the most stupid and unsecure tecnologies ever invented.
You will find on this forum tons of informations about roms...just read it!
I have a preference for Infuse based ROM on my infuse.
they are listed in the dev section under superthread

Don't install a Samsung based rom, which is everything but CM7 or MIUI. Both CM7 and MIUI are AOSP based. MIUI is too much like iOS for my liking. I have been running CM7 on my infuse since I got it, and before that on my inspire, and before that on my captivate. CM7 is the only way to go.
For what it's worth, I'm running CM7, the newest nightly on 1/19. Very stable (some apps I had while running stock Froyo or Infused 2.2.3? would force close alot, not on CM7, but it's a very selective few apps I use for work), very smooth, very fast, overclockable to at least 1.4 gHz for most people. Some people do 1.6 gHz but it's not stable for my phone. You can undervolt it by some amounts for that extra battery savings, and it's constantly having features added to it, like T9 dialing that I discovered was included (much MUCH love for this small thing).
For all the added features, I regularly go through my phone and make sure I don't have apps that do things that are now part of the phone, so I keep the app list short and sweet. Having redundant features means that 2 things are trying to do the same thing, and I'd rather punch out my battery more and more without giving up some conveniences I had Dialer One on my phone, and it's not that great looking, but I had it just for the T9 dialing. Once I saw that CM7 had a T9 dialing feature, I uninstalled Dialer One. The music app, while not as heavy on the eye candy, made me get rid of Doubletwist and Airsync. Airsync never really worked great, for me at least.
CM7 doesn't have fully working bluetooth on the Infuse, some people have trouble with auto brightness (my personal preference is that I'd rather use the status bar slider to adjust brightness), and HDMI out doesn't work. It also has some extra niceties, such as theming, a DSP Manager app (that controls audio levels and equalizers), and is pretty much always being updated.
The drop down bar can be customized almost entirely, and because bluetooth doesn't work, not that I want it, I got rid of that icon. I replaced it with a screen timeout toggle. It has many more options than that.
One thing, and I don't think this is CM7 exclusive, is that sometimes my text messages won't send. I'm using GOSMS as my messaging app until the stock messaging app starts sending ALL of my texts. MMS relies on a data connection so I tend to pull the drop down and enable that when I want to send a picture or download one. Once it starts working the same way, I'm uninstalling GOSMS because it tends to be heavy and sometimes lags up noticeably.
I don't use bluetooth, and I don't think I've ever opened that HDMI dongle packaging, much less tried to use it. While it would be nice if they functioned, I get from day to day without even thinking about those. Your mileage may vary.
I'll throw my support behind CM7. I briefly tried ZEUS, but switched back after a couple days.

The only way to get a rom that has everything working like it should is to flash an infused based rom ...NOT an aosp rom..... cm7 is good if you don't need Bluetooth....as cm7 and miui use a different bt stack then Samsung ...so in my opinion that issue wont be fixed....and they have been known to have data issues....flash ANY of the infuse based Rome if you want complete functionality....period

Like others say if you need BT audio or HDMI stick with Samsung roms. I could care less about both, i have been bouncing back and forth between CM7 and MIUI for months now whenever there is a noteworthy update. Both are very quick and clean in my opinion and you can't go wrong with either one. I have tried most Samsung roms available but they are always short lived on my device...they always feel as if lacking something. Props to the devs for making them available though!!!
thank guys for the responses.. I am currently running the cm7.. looks great and smooth but i got a few issues maybe its the phone itself.
first: seems like my internet/wifi doesnt stay on at times or its not using wifi even tho its turned on.
second: the browser seems to be very slow and it force closes at times maybe it the site that i go to. ESPN scoreboards, i bet a lot so i check scores frequently and open a lot of pages.
third: yeah, battery does seem to go fast maybe because of the excessive use of the web.
BTW do you guys have to put in any apns?? I didnt'.
I don't think it's your phone. I'm still new at this, but as I understand it, you can make/flash tweaks and different modems that may help with the issues you encounter. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm on cm7 and I keep going back to it everytime I flash something new. It just works the best for me. As for data issues, you need to setup the apn fix listed in n0ctrnl's compiled cm7 thread. It's in the original post I believe. Also I flashed the latest modem (uckl2) found in the sticky of development section for modems

Go to wifi settings, hit menu button and go to advanced. Under wifi sleep policy choose never. Should fix the wifi connection issues your having.
I've tried many, but Zeus is the best one that's fully functional (BT and HDMI).
if i flash the miui rom, can i just wipe data and cache than flash the rom? or do i need to do something else?
currently on cm7...

Definately Zeus for now. It's snappy, everything works and theres even a few themes as well as an ICS launcher. All the AT&T bloat has been removed. I used to prefer stock, but Zeus made me convert. It's just more responsive than any other rom for the Infuse.
It's all a matter of personal preference. I've run about 12-15 different ROMs on my Infuse so far. I keep coming back to Sensation 1.1. I really like being able to edit my status bar.
I didn't care for the camera in CM7, but it is a very nice running ROM. Only thing I miss is not having an extended power menu.
Just play with a bunch of them until you find one you like.

[Q] Whats the best ROM for i9020T

Dear friends,
I have Nexus S on t-mobile ICS 4.0.4, i would like to know which one is the best of best room for my phone.
I want a rom that i can count on and theme.
i have found two of theme here on site..
1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1483033
2) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1425344
Which one can i use for my t-mobile i9020t
Well, everyone will like a different ROM. This is mostly a personal question and you will have to test a few before you decide which one you like more.
Bedalus benchmarks might tip the scale:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481856
Now, if you ask me, I really like MIUIXperience since it offers nice theming over MIUI (loving Xperia launcher and other stuff). Haven't had any problems with it (except for some known bugs that the DEV is working on).
koush isnt making roms, not for the nexus s at least. you probably meant cm9, which is not koushes work. plus there are many more roms out in the dev section, some are more popular than the roms that you listed.
Where is Bugless Beast on poll!?
Like stated previously, it is all completely up to you. Just try them all until you find the one you like
I'll tell you about my experiences though with CyberGR v10 (previous ROM) and Bugless Beast (current ROM):
CyberGR was great but there were too may mods I didn't personally need. Also, different applications would lag at times like email, facebook, or even the T9 dialer (sometimes it would up to 5 seconds to pull up my dialer and contacts which was ultra annoying). I tried many different kernels and overclocking options but it still lagged or even rebooted. Thus I decided to change.
I switched to Bugless Beast and I am very happy with it as my daily driver. It is very simple mod and close to stock ICS and I just applied my own additional modifications to suit my needs like the kernel change to support BLN, BLD, and voodoo. This ROM is very snappy, has a great battery life, and everything works as far as I know even with my modifications.
May I ask, how do you edit the image files of a custom rom to remove few applications and change the language files

[Q] Can't receive text messages on any custom rom??

Ok guys, I don't even know where to begin. I'm a noob to flashing roms and such. I have a G2X and I was so frustrated by the lag and glitchiness of the phone. So i rooted my phone through superoneclick and i flashed CM 7.2. I could receive texts and send texts no problem until i flashed an ICS rom. The first one i flashed was EB bld 5.5 and i noticed that people tried to text me but i couldnt receive any. I can send texts but i cant receive them. I went through tons and tons of forums and other sites but i couldnt find a solution. Does anyone know y i cant receive texts?
Reflash? If issue consists then try other ics roms

Check your APN settings. Sometimes when I flash a new ROM my SIM card will put most of the info in but may leave out the network password it something.
You can usually get your apn settings from your service providers website. Or somebody here will provide them? Who is your cellular company?
Remember to use G2X scrubber or Nullifier before flashing a new ROM. Then flash your Gapps and reboot. Then just leave your phone alone for 10 minutes or so. Also, try calling someone. If you can't hear the call audio, its probably a baseband issue. The G2X development forums have some very great guides.

I have this exact same problem. For some reason I cannot receive sms on CM 7.2 based roms or any ICS roms. However it works when I use the MIUI 2.2.24 rom with the trinity ELP kernel by Morific. Very odd. Does anybody have any ideas I've been having this problem for a couple of months now and I'm running out of ideas. My baseband is the latest Mar 11 2012 one and i'm with Mobilicity (in Canada). Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
It's a problem with cm 7.2 based kernels. I submitted a catlog to the cm team but only a few phones are having this problem. The only thing I've found that works is flashing one of morifc's older kernels on top of cm 7 nothing I've tried works on ics roms. Also if you have wifi calling enabled it's strange but you should receive text messages.

Yeah, I was getting sick of the MIUI rom (and it was being weird) so I followed your advice and flashed Cyanogenmod 7.2 with a trinity kernel and all is well now. It is a shame that it won't work with ICS, hopefully that O2X leak will fix this issue. Also, the tmobile wifi calling app doesn't work since i'm on a different provider (Mobilicity). I was wondering if there is another app that is equivalent or if I could use the wifi calling app with Mobilicity somehow?
I don't know of any other apps that work like wifi calling and I'm pretty sure the tmobile wifi calling app only works with a tmobile network. I was hoping the cm team would have looked into this by now I submitted the ticket awhile ago and it got labeled as an apn issue which it clearly isn't. It's something in the kernel disregarding the sms notification.

Q Radio and SMS

Currently on cyanogenmod 10 Nov 13 stable
I haven't done anything else to it. My question is that my data pretty much completely drops in malls. Which normally doesn't happen with Verizon in my areas. Is this due to the rom? If so, does changing to a jb tw rom change that? Or stock rom only.
Second if I do move to a custom jb tw rom will I be able to install the cm sms? I don't like the stock one. Ex cleanrom
Does changing the kernel on cm10 affect anything. A Grey area for me
Thank you for any input in advance.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
That was/is a known issue with CM, data drops. Im not sure if its been fixed or not so not 100% sure if its still a issue. TW roms dont have that issue at so you should see better data with running those. Yes AOSP mms has been ported to work on TW, I use this one and it works flawlessly. As for the kernel you will see better performance and depending on the kernel you can underclock/overclock and undervolt. You can just make a nandroid of your current setup and flash a TW rom and try it out, if you dont like it just restore your backup.
I really doubt that it is the rom at this point in it's development. The SG3 has about the worst radio I have ever had in a phone. My SG3 can only make calls and send/receive SMS in two places in my house-- my old DX and friends and families other phones work in any room in my house including the basement. I restored back to the stock rom and took all the OTA's yesterday and my phones performance has not changed one bit. I had VZW replace the device once when about a month old due to this issue, the replacement they sent had absolutely no WiFi reception, they replaced that and a few months later that phone destroyed itself when I plugged in a OTG cable, I'm on my fourth now and the camera doesn’t focus, its got a giant black screen inkblot, and the reception issue is still the same. I am going to duke it out w/ Verizon again in a bit to try to get it replaced again. Supposedly some of these devices have working radios...
Later,
Jason
