[Q] Best Nexus S Rom?

Hi guys,
I was wondering if I could get some advice. I had the Nexus One and had Cyanogen running on it, which I loved. I got the nexus S at christmas and love it... the random reboots did annoy me until 2.3.3 came out. Recently I rooted the phone and flashed modaco custom ROM based on 2.3.3 with the KB3 radio and GRI 54 base.
I was wondering if your guys opinions, what is the best ROM to flash, that is stable, with not random boots etc. but an improvment on what I have?

They're all great. Try them all and see which you like the best.

Personally, I like CM 7 because of the T-Mobile theme engine that allows me to change the appearance of the ROM with the touch of a button. No more constant flashing of themes for me!

I've tried a lot and although they all have their advantages I always come back to CM. It generally picks up all the great little mods that the community develop not to mention all its own great features.
Bear in mind that it is still not technically stable yet though R2 has been pretty good for me with only a couple of reboots since installing on the day it was released. Once we get the full stable CM7 it will be a tough one to beat

I will elaborate. I've run every ROM available since January (when I got my NS). I've tried almost every release of those ROMs as well and I can honestly say that they are all awesome for different reasons. I try really hard not to be biased to one ROM or one developer because it tends to cloud your ability to try different things with an open mind. Right now I have NANDroid backups of CM7rc2, MIUI, Axura, NSCollab, Stock 2.3.3, Stock 2.3.3 Deodexed, and Honeycomb.
I'm always sad to see these thread because I think its asking the wrong question altogether. What these threads should ask is "What is your daily driver?" because "best" is so subjective to uses and personal preference. What some love about CM7 is also what many other hate. The iOS look of MIUI is both on of its most loved and hated qualities. Whatever tweaks a particular dev or team of devs seems fit to include may be exactly what a person wants or what a person doesn't want.
Now, I've said my diatribe and I'll answer the other question: "What is your daily driver?"
I have two. Some days I run CM7rc2, some days I run Axura. Once the white background issue is cleared up in MIUI, I'll add that to the rotation as well.

Cm7. Other roms are good for if you're bored and want to flash something new. Pretty sure everyone ends up on cm7 for stability and features better than stock.

Axura is my everyday driver. Its fast and its been the most stable for me.

I must agree entirely. I tried CM7 for awhile but it wasn't stable enough for me. I've never had a ROM as stable and fast and clean looking as Axura! I'd recommended at least giving a few of them a try though. The stickied thread by Kenvan is a wonderful resource!

ICS rom with high wife acceptance factor

I've been using custom firmwares on Android devices since CM 4 on my G1. Currently I have an sgs running an ICS rom.
My wife has a nexus s (don't have the exact model number on me. Its from Rogers and still on gb) and wants some of the features she sees on mine. On my phone I'm more than happy to use beta roms and kernels and flash 3x daily. I don't want to do that with hers nor can I keep up with the latest news for both devices. You nexus folks have a freaky active dev scene.
So, is there a "set it and forget it" calibre ICS rom for the mighty nexus yet?

most of the rom you could use as a daily without worrying. you can even do a stock ics rom with a custom kernel. i use the latest cm9(kang) with the trinity teuv kernel as my daily(most the time). not a single issue here.

Nexus Beam with Speedy 5. Very stable. Also currently using Bigxie 4 and Speedy 5 with 0 issues.

I'm in the exact same situation as you. After stealing her phone and trying several different ICS ROMs, i found AndroidME to be the best suited for her. It's pretty much stock ICS, it runs really smooth and there hasn't really been any issues. I'm using AOKP build 19 with kernel SG-NS-ICS 17-01-2012, very fast and stable for me

Most ROMs here can be used daily, and in terms of battery/speed I honestly don't notice much difference between one another. Peter Alfonso's ROM is known for stability, but I would suggest flashing a different kernel to improve performance and battery life. KANGY that I currently use is also stable and has more features than AOSP, or at least v8 is.
For kernel, don't use SG-NS-ICS kernel or any with a default undervolted/overclocked state because not all phones can handle that. I recommend Eugene's ICUP as the best "use and forget" IMO because of the smartassv2/BLD/BLN default state and good battery life.
Set Nova Launcher beta 13 as the default launcher and don't automatic update. If she likes customizing wallpapers and icons she'll like it.

After checking out the ICUP kernel, and some of the roms like KANGY and the state of the Nexus CM9 vs the SGS CM9, I'm tempted to steal her phone and give her mine. Don't know if I can give up the 720p video though...

[Q] ICS 4.0.4 (Official OTA) is awesome. Which ROMs out there are actually better?

I've been really, really pleased with the official 4.0.4 for the i9020T. Aside from a couple negligible bugs, it's pretty close to perfect.
Has anyone messed with a ROM that's actually better than this?

I loved using CyberGR, but decided to switch back to CM. Really enjoying CM9. It has the feeling of a more cohesive rom than CyberGR. For example. the specific settings are where you'd expect them to be, rather than searching through a bunch of developer created menus.

I liked the stock 4.04. Before this, I tried many MIUI versions (both original and modified versions like stuffed crustand rocket fueled), nuhetri reloaded, nexus beam...and so on...
For me, MIUI is getting closer to perfect, but the stock ICS seems more smooth and the responsiveness when opening apps is better. I'm also using Steve Garon's kernel with 1.1 GHz , daily.
The only thing I'm missing is the lack of toggles attatched to the notifications bar.

One concern I have is whether rooting and flashing another ROM will mess up future OTA updates.... since I'm like 95% happy with the stock 4.0.4 I'm not sure I wanna risk it....

There are other threads where you can find stock roms. Don't be affraid and try something new! Now I'm using elivisto's IMM76D.

Buddy wait for apex 1.1.0 I'm sure it will be great. But if u can't wait try cm9 for me I had issues with cybergr mod cuz it didn't have sleep toggle in notifications drawer and in cm9 v5 battery! Was really bad

You need to try MIUIXperience (I am using v1 since a like the icons). greatest MIUI ever!! Works like a charm ( except for the lockscreen)

havnt tried out stock 4.0.4, but i gotta say, aokp is FLAWLESS.

I've tried Pete's Bugless Beast and CyberGR v10.
Both very good and enjoying my ICS experience! I felt Bugless Beast was snappier with menus and widgets. However, I feel like CyberGR was more customizable and the kernel that came with the mod supported BLN (I know I can flash a different kernel but I like to use the ones that developers give me since its how they optimized it).
I have yet to try CM9 but will in the future.

cm 9 with reloaded mod. It's very snappy and feels complete and is a daily driver.

[Q] Best ROMs for P3110?

Hello, I decided to write this thread, your opinions in addition to knowledge and experience, I serve as a guideline for deciding on a particular ROM, I'm now with P3110XWBLH3 rooted, and what I want more than anything is overclocked, smoothness and stability, which is something ^ ^
Will include the following, as I see it is notably more:
Stock ICS 4.0.4
CM9
CM10
AOKP
If anyone suggests otherwise, of course included.

I'm now on AOKP Build 4 and like it! But remember - if you need Samsung Apps you have to stay on a stock ROM...

IMHO it is Stock 4.0.4:
- Keyboard, Mouse and Bluetooth headset worked without any additional steps
- TouchWiz is really faster and no lagging when using it
- Good working time (For me battery enough approx two days)
- Nice small apps available all the time fand no matter what application or game launched (Splanner, task manager, calc)

Obvviously it progresses through the various builds, but you will see it get better and better as the thread goeson . The problem with asking about ROMs is that its down to personal opinion , Such as myself and Ailir; disagree , but dose not mean that either of us are right or wrong.The best thing to do is to flash them all and find one that works for you.
There is no "best ROM" , its all down to personal needs.....BUT JellyBean is a better option , no matter the what the ROM , be it a custom build or stock.
My 2 cents, not worth much but you did ask lol

I agree...I love AOKP, and build 4 just keeps getting better, especially with the Over Clock Kernal. But it is really preference. For a long time I was pure CM, but after I gave AOKP a try I could never go back, just isn't the same.

i'm using android since 3 years but it is my first post on XDA i was just a lurker.
I'm using AOKP and i prefer it instead of the samsung stock, but I would like to install on aokp some apps from stock, i tried but it's seem to be impossible.
So there something that i have to do? Nobody find a solution?

Nope not much you can do as they are a Samsung Stock exclusive and made to work on Stock ROMs. Its a pity as I really like some of the stock apps. Love the music/video player. I have been trying to fiddle with them for ages , cant get them signed or installed.

Installed cm10.1 with Dohllmen Kernel and works fine!

I recently convinced my girlfriend to switch to android from iOS, but I'm sorta torn; I want her to have the best experience (which I strongly believe is not stock software) but there's the question of stability, which could be problematic since I won't always be able to fix it, what do you guys think? Feedback would be super great

The best performance with roms I've had: Luna - I've had the best performance with this rom, Jelly 'Beans' - AOSP themed but 100% touchwiz, performance is perfect as well besides launcher redraw lag (fix by taking the services.jar in system/framework from Luna and replace it in system/framework on Jelly 'Beans'), Super Stock+ - exactly like stock except with basic changes that everyone loves such as no ongoing wifi notification, 4 in 1 reboot menu, and lidroid toggles, and CleanROM - similar to Super Stock+, with probably just a few more features. Also with CleanROM you can flash cool Wasabi themes. You can flash Wasabi themes on other roms too but it doesn't work with all. So always make a backup in recovery before flashing the theme in case it doesn't work or in case you don't like how the theme looks and want to try a different one. Also the stability on all these roms are perfect except I think Jelly Beans has a couple minor bugs. You can check by opening the thread and find the "Not Working" section. Jelly Beans also has a link to a google doc in its thread with a list of bugs and feature requests, and you can add to it. I would stick with stock. She'll already be overwhelmed by the customization it offers. Did she have her iphone jailbroken? If not, the freedom to change every aspect of the phone was not that important before why should that have changed. I would only recommend roms to people who like to tinker themselves, and are willing to spend the time to do research and learn how to do it correctly.
If you're going to do it for her, she obviously does not want to learn that aspect of using the phone, which means she also won't want to learn how to fix the problems that will definitely pop up. Thanks for the input she's actually pretty tech savvy, she just kinda got stuck with an iPhone. But I'll definitely take your advice and start her off slow, because she saw my phone (running AOKP) and I had to tell her that the phone out of the box won't be as cutting edge and such so I figure she'll work her way up there eventually, thanks again though

A pretty simple and easy rom is the jedi mind trick I run it on my s2 its stable eaay to use loads of customizations and nice to look at great first timers rom

I think it is only compatible with Touchwiz roms. Not sure though I would ask in the Zeus kernel thread if I were you

Should throw miui v4 on it since she would be used to the no app drawer and then miuis major customization
