Custom rom for sghi497 to make it a 5110/5113 - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok, I have a sghi497 from at$t. I dont care about the 4g part of it as its to easy to break the limit. Iwould liketo run a custom rom and such on it as I do with my note and note2. I basically want to make it a wifi only without having to buy another one. Which model do I need to flash if possible for the us version of the i497?

There are no custom Roms for the ATT model. There is only deodexed stock. By the way your question belongs in Q and A and not development.

Why don't you just turn off mobile data? No flash necessary.

Has anyone looked at http://www.samsungis.com/Firmwares/SGH-I497.html
I am trying to figure out how to open the boot.img.

[Q] Can I remove verizon completely

Hi,
not sure if this has been discussed here or not,
so i have a simple and easy question. I currently use a rooted Verizon 32gb Xoom, with a 4.1.2 CM10 rom installed by Rom Manager.
I do not ever plan to use the Verizon hardware and software in the future, is there a way to completely remove the Verizon software,
so that I can kinda convert this Xoom into a wifi only model ?
Is there a problem doing this that you can think of ?
can I just flash a different modem with cwmr ?
I really despise Verizon and do not want to see the 3g signal meter in the notification panel.
i know it sounds a lil whiney, but i do want to know, what it would take to disable any verizon functionality.
thanks in advance,
Use LAIOT Linux to install Stock MZ604 ROM, then root again and blah blah blah. Else you can try installing AOSP ROM.
Both links on my signature (better saying, 7Heavens have all it and more )
"This Story Ends Where It Began"
I keep mine in airplane mode and just turn on wifi. I never see the 3G icon. I've been doing this for over six months now. I originally did this because I was afraid verizon would try to disable my Xoom. I figured if it never connected to their network that I'd be safe.

I was under impression you could just flash any rom intended for the wifi version and it'll work

This'll work, just flash a wingray rom
Sent from my Blade using Tapatalk 2
I am on a 4G rooted xoom as well that I never use the verizon data. If I were just to install a wingray ROM instead of stingray and keeping in airplane mode, would I be able to expect a increase in battery life?
Possible battery Life increase is the only benefit I see in switching from stingray to wingray.
Well yea you will but then if you want to use wifi it'll defeat the purpose of airplane mode

I just bought a new ($200) 3g version to replace my recently damaged WiFi version. Can I flash a fully stock wingray firmware to it? Or better/safer to just flash a custom wingray ROM?
Thanks.

Cheapest way to unlock Rogers phone

Wondering what is the current way to unlock my Samsung Galaxy S2 LTE from Rogers. Is there a free way to do so or do I need to go through the unlocking code websites (if so which one is the cheapest)?

Thanks was this way tested on Canadian phones as well? Also do I really need to bring the phone back to stock ROM? Will that unlocking method make my phone permanently unlocked or will it disapear once I flash to another ROM? And finally what modem should I flash it to, I saw several in that thread, not sure if that has to do with the service provider or phone type?
You should read more. You have to bring to stock, make a nandroid of where you are now. It will permanently unlock you.

thanks what about speed before custom rom and after? wondering if its worth the money to get one
Its almost the same but with root you can freeze any apps that you dont need or run in background completely to make your device a bit faster with no lag
PS:you can try Android Revolution HD rom
Sent from my GT-N8000 using xda premium
Custom roms generally are tweaked to be a bit more speedy, have the bloat taken out and allow you, the user, to do things that are usually not allowed or limited.
Don't ask what is the best rom as it is rude and will start a rom war. You need to go to the developement section, pick the roms that are compatible with your device, n8010/13 rom won't allow the n8000 to use its phone functions, and then read the posts.... Decide what you want then flash. The beauty is, as long as you do a nandroid backup, you can return to your stock rom or try another rom as many times as you want...

Please Help : SCH-I535 4.3 updated

Hi all,
I don't know whether I'm posting my question in the correct forum or not.
My Phone is SCH I-535. Accidentally, I upgraded to 4.3.
I have rooted and downloaded rootchecker from play store and it is rooted successfully.
Basically, I did a big blunder last time, by flashing a wrong ROM altogether. Flashed the International Version ROM and it hard bricked, and it was a mess. I could not use my phone for almost 6 months since, I did not have time to work on this. So now, I got the phone up and running and I did not know that, I should not accept the 4.3 update. So I did accept and now I'm on 4.3 and rooted.
Basically, I have 3 requirements.
1. Get a clean, fast, simple ROM, which has only essential Apps and no bloatware - CAN ANYONE SUGGEST ANY ROM-SCH-I535,4.3,ROOTED
2. Get the HotSpot feature working - I downloaded foxfi, and it is working fine. But if the stock Hotspot feature works, then it will be great. I don't like many Apps in my phone. I feel they make it a bit slow. I want my phone to be as fast as possible.
3. Increase the Brightness of my screen. I read somewhere about the kernel modification or something. I tried to do that last time and I messed it up badly.
So, I did not want to do anything stupid this time and I'm posting here.
I have read different threads and there is a lot of information, and that's how, I was able to root this 4.3 SCH I-535. But I don't want to do anything on my own, with out expert advice. So I'm posting here.
Any help is highly appreciated. Thank You.
1. Lots of great roms available, take a look at all of them and see what looks interesting. Every rom will be experienced differently by everybody, so your best option here is to systematically try them out until you find a good one that runs like you need it to. Remember you need safestrap in order to do this and the rom can only be 4.3 TouchWiz.
2. I think there's a wifi hack somewhere that will remove the Verizon prompt completely. Not sure where to find it though, might not be s3 specific.
3. Increasing the brightness may not be possible. If there is a way, then an xposed module might be able to do it. Take a look at all of them and see if something allows you to modify that.

Re: ROMS, mods, and kernels.

Re: ROMS, mods, and kernels.
Hey all, I've been a long time Samsung user. Started with the S2 to the S3, Note 2, S4, Note 3, and S5. I missed custom kernels from my Thunderbolt days. Since I am new again to HTC... any ideas or opinions would be cool!
I got S-off and permanent root. Now what?
Thanks in advance for opinions and help!

I don't use a custom kernel because I was getting battery drain on my last one and just stuck to stock. If you want to really fiddle with a rom use viper, that's all I've got running and it's fantastic

My wife uses viper. Myself I used it back in the day but not in a long time just don't seem to work as good for me as other's. Viper is good if you don't know how to edit or mod anything you know. Badseed is nice as the whole ROM is inverted big plus for me that is.

I used to run inverted on my S3 all the time because of the battery saving it provided for the amoled display. Since this is a super lcd display, that's a none issue, and I'm trying to run everything white just because I can.
I'm still running stock because it's so quick. On my S3, stock touchwiz was so slow and buggy I had no choice but to install a new rom.
However, there are many more roms available in the international m8 forum correct? Is there a way to tell if they'll work with our phone? Or do they have to say it's specifically compatible with the Verizon variant? The last thing I want to do is flash something and have it missing the CDMA band needed to get data. Also would super CID basically allow flashing of any rom we wanted.

They'll say if they work for Verizon or not. SuperCID would allow you to flash any carrier Rom, but I doubt you would get data or anything, maybe 1x...that's more for like if you want to take your phone to t-mobile then you would be able to flash a tmobile Rom and be good to go (whether you get LTE or not on tmobile is a diff story).

Yup, stock rooted. Love it. I don't usually flash too often anyway. Just want something as stable and bug free as possible. So I'm thinking I'll probably end up running bonestock or cleanrom. I'm also extremely intrigued by the gpe rom.
I'll start flashing soon, but I generally don't like flashing too often.

Are you on the old firmware or radios still? (Which I really hope you say yes as if so you can help out a lot of people by doing me a favor)?.....or have you updated to the new firmware 1.55.....myself I hate pretty much all google apps besides chrome an I don't really care for that just my backup browser so the gpe ROM is very well put together by @digitalhigh . I have flashed it just to see how it ran but google everything an no blinkfeed is a total bust for me..

Plus I ran bonestock for a while at 1st. I have tried all Roms an that is the best stock ROM he has lots of things enabled VZW hides. Only thing he is missing is eps mode but that is so easy to add via XML ...all you need to do its add another line for a quick setting tile like the rest of them an use value 30. Reboot an then your bone stock will have everything you need plus on the house teathering.

I think my sister also updated hers.
