"where i should put the layout" Huh? What layout? Your main activity/fragments .xml goes in the layout folder. Android UI layouts are made with XML, and the code that makes them do stuff in made in Java. If you do not know what these two things are, you should do some research on them before starting to code.

[Q] Which Program Is used to make "Themes"?

I used to be able to crank out themes for the Crackberry in about an hour using their creator program...Is there one specifically designed for the Android OS? I've googled a theme builder for Android a few times, but nothing pulls up.
anyone want to lend a thought?
you just edit "framework-res.apk" located in "/system/framework"
Check out the sticky at the top of this forum. You can also use metamorph to make themes and provide for easy installation.
They are just png files use photoshop

Here you go... and you are welcome. This does work with x10 as i have used it for wolfs rom. It might not be as custom as you want cause you have to chose from their selection of icons and stuff.
It is a well made online kitchen for making themes. you just need to get your hands on your framework-res.apk and upload it to the website then modify it and bammo you got a new theme.
enjoy
i use gimp and patience

Hi,
To built comprehensive theme you need to have few tools... im sure there are few shortcuts, but if you know the technique then you can get the edge on making wonderful themes.
What to change.
images- pngs & 9.pngs (most popular thing, 9.png editing is little tricky
XML files- most people don't do this as its little complicated and this is the place you can make Honda looks like a Ferrari..
Optimization- most users just replace pngs without concerning its operational outcome. its better if you can optimized pngs and finish it off with a "zipalign"
Well. its not easy to teach you like this... but you can start little googling to get help. XDA is full of resources if you know what ur looking.
My tools for above things
Images
Photoshop CS5
Run draw9patch.bat(SDK/tools) to get an idea and fix of margin on 9.pngs
XML and optimization
SDK
Eclipse
Apktool
zipalign.exe (SDK/tools)
Good luck....

[Q] How to remove modify peices phone.apk

I'm trying to take the CM7 dialer look like the ICS dialer. ICS looks like it's a long way away from my X10 so I'm trying to embrace ICS as much as possible.
I have the APK decompiled and I'm searching as much as I can but with no knowledge in java or c++ or any xml editing, and I'm sure you can already tell.
Questions:
How do I remove the starred tab and even out the other three tabs?
Am I able to apply the screen slide transition?
Am I able to make the buttons about 2/3 of the existing tab sizes?
Is there a website that could explain all the parts of a decompiled apk?
Is there a website that could explain all the code in plain english, for average joes? lol
I'm sorry for so many questions but if I could do this it'll be so freaking awesome!

[Q] Building a Plain text Launcher (Terminal/Command prompt Style)

Hi all, I'm newly registered here and I've found only 1 thread concerning this.
My question is this: How hard would it be to build a Launcher that doesn't use graphics, only text. I ask this because I've never programmed for android, but I have some experience in actionscript and basic. It's not very much tho, and I've tried many different programming languages over the years, mostly basic stuff in school (php, java, c++, javascript).
I always liked the look of CWM recovery on my Galaxy 3. It's really crisp and I wondered if I could make a launcher myself that would emulate that look and feel.
I also liked how more of the screen could be used since you could use vol+/- keys for navigation, and not just your touchscreen. That means smaller fonts and more options on screen at one time.
Is it possible for me, as a total beginner, to build a really simple launcher that I could later expand with widgets etc?
I guess this won't get any replies because it sinks down so fast...
Where should I post this, I seem to be getting no answers...

[Q] A Path to Take

Hey Guys,
I wanna learn modding and developing Android. I'm new to XDA and don't know which path to take. Should I start by modding some .apks or should I use Android SDK to learn to develop apps. BTW, I use Linux (Xubuntu 1.04) and I'm familiar with the Command Line. I just want somebody to point me in the right direction.
Thank you...

Hi.
Take which ever comes naturally, but you should have some idea before signing up as modding an apk or two is a bit different to developing a full app I would say. I would start by reading reading and reading some more.
Hmm...

I found this thread by Cyanogen --- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667298. I decided to take his advice but I have another question, a bit stupid one perhaps, I was trying to edit my Android's Phone.apk. I was changing the colour of the numbers in the dialpad to blue, I used Gimp (Yes, I changed the mode to RGB) and edited the .png files in both drawable-hdpi-finger and drawable-mdpi-finger. I signed and zip-aligned the .apk, after putting it in my phone's system/app, changing permissions and rebooting. The Numbers in the dial-pad was still white in colour, I had also edited the unknow-caller png and that worked but the dialpad thingy didn't work. Any ideas???

It might not be an image but controlled by an xml, or the buttons you've changed aren't what's used by the Phone etc, for example the dialer buttons in my Phonebook to make a call aren't the same as when I'm on a call, as the ones used while I'm in a call are in another apk, which for me is SEMCPhone.apk, which you'll only find on SonyEricsson/Sony Phones.

Help for theming ;)

Hi everyone! I need some help to make some theming on my Taoshan and if it's done i will share it to you
So, like in the pictures i'd like to change these buttons and backgrounds. I decompile these png's and I know where to put it but don't know where and how to change the colors and size. I search the threads over and over again, but no luck. (Like: [TUT][JB] How to theme SystemUI.apk for totally newbie, and [Guide] Want to learn how to theme?, and some others) The really big problem is that I canT find those values that I have to edit, even I decompile the SystemUI.apk fine (I have all the folders and xml's).
What I really wanna do is that achieve a stock android ui with those fine simple icons (the buttons sequence dosn't matter, but it will be great, and if I be able to add some more... :fingers-crossed, 'cause I really like it (with holo blue or grey), like in the Slim rom that I used on my Xperia Neo.
So anyone can help me pls respond
I know something about photoshop and designing so maybe it will be a greater project
