What I want: I want to access my camera without unlocking my phones security. Occasionally you want to take a quick camera shot but this is easy to do quick when there's a telephone security in place. I think iPhones have this feature, but I also think I've seen it on the Xperia S.
What I have: My telephone is an HTC Sensation, rooted s-off and the like. I'm currently on a Sense based ROM (though Sense is stripped and the experience is basic Android ICS like): HyperNonSense. I own WidgetLocker, and I can place a shortcut to the camera but then I'm still bugged with the security in place.
What I don't want: I don't want to disable my phones security.
What I have done: I've searched a lot, seriously a lot, but have not find a satisfying solution. I did find two solutions I did not like or could not test:
Solution 1: This solution says it is possible to achieve this using a (1*1) widget acting as the camera. I, however, have not found such a widget.
Solution 2: Soution 2 requires Tasker, however I don't feel like buying this solution 1) for only this purpose and 2) when I'm not even sure this solution still works.
So the question: Does anyone know if and how I can achieve what I want: access to my camera to take a quick pic without unlocking my android device's security?
Edit: argh... not sure if this is the right subforum
Not sure if it will work have u tried using desktop Visualizer to make a widget/icon to link to camera ?

Although I kinda hate myself for not finding that application myself to test this, it also did not work as I had hoped it would. I doubt whether the "widget approach" even would work. Thanks for the input though.

I know this is an old post, but has anyone been able to achieve this?
I came across Solution 2 mentioned in the original post (using Tasker and Widget Locker), but have not been able to import the profile at all.. and the scripting is a lil too complicated for me to understand.

I was able to import the profile, but it seems it still needs a task which is not defined on the profile.
Hi there, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I can't seem to post to the treads related to what about to ask.
I just got the t-mobile prism (aka: Huawei U8651T), Its my first android phone and a good step up from having used the nokia nuron 3250. I have to say I'm a little disappointed with the most simple things that this phone doesn't do and I'm already looking into at least rooting my phone if not installing a better rom (assuming there are better roms) and that is the purposed topic of this post.
I've read up on the "How to root Huawei U8651T http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1698905 and it seems easy enough to do but I want to make sure that rooting and/or flashing to a different rom will actually fix the small disappointments I've found in my phone. Here is the list...
1, Camera options suck in just about every way. There are pathetic presets to control the white balance and other setting. I've had more options on far lesser phones. Not to mention the poor interface in general.
2. the music player has extremely simple with no built in EQ at all. This one I did find a way to overcome with a small global eq but serously the built in stuff should at least have a preset eq like jazz, rock, bass, flat etc.
3. the alarm clock and texting sounds have to be tmo's preset stuff. I can't set either to a custom ringtone or mp3. Again I found a work around for the alarm clock but not the texting and all these extra programs is steeling away the little memory space this phone has.
4. and finally I have seen programs on the apps/programs list that I can't use or find anywhere else. I'm not talking about the ones that run in the background that run say the keyboard or hardware, I'm talking programs I should be able to use.The one that pops out first is the Sound Recorder. its on there but I can't find anyway to actually use it.
So here is my questions... Will rooting my phone give me a way to change some of these issues? Will installing a different rom?
I'm also instrested in knowing what the CyanogenMod 7.2 STABLE (2.3.7) 16-06-2012 rom is really like vs the stock rom and what other roms there are out there that will work on my phone. I use would like to hear from KrisM22 if your out there but I've love anyone's knowledgeable opinion. thanks for your help.
by rooting & installing CM7 you will solve all this problems coz CM7 provides a wide variety of functionality.
3. You can set custom ringtones and notification sounds very easily. Create a folder on sd card called "media" within that folder create another folder "audio" and within that create a folder called "ringtones" for ringtones and "notifications" for notification sounds.

I tried several different camera apps and it all defaulted to the presets the original app had. so is it hard wired into the hardware or just the roms programing ?
Hi brothers,

Well once I commit to doing this I'll be backing up mine that I can send along to you. But tell me having run the other rom how does your phone like it? Does it address the issues I've posted? Give me your review please
This rom works quite well for me -> http://www.mediafire.com/?zr5x3lb9xr0kvvf
more info
Cool can tell me more about it? Do a review on it for me please
Well, I just like the way the screens look with the rom...you have to manually install a camera app, music app, and file manager, because the ZaD!!RoM didn't come with them. Also, the phone would shut down occasionally due to overclocking, so I had to adjust that too.
I guess what I'm saying is the ZaD!!RoM is good if you like to do a lot of your own customizing/tweaking. Otherwise, try the Cyanogenmod rom.
Good luck!

Thank you so much for place the link on the stock rom. I am trying to recover the phone back to factory WITHOUT CWM as the boot loader. I am trying to follow instructions of how to reflash in the XDA forums but run into a brick wall for the update.app is not in the stock rom that you provided. Is there something you can do to help on this?
Thanks
I'm trying to follow veer1238 instructions but do not have the update.app. Help please!:crying:
Uh Oh!
I have a T-Mobile Prism that I need to unroot and turn it back into factory conditions. There is a problem though, when I flash the factory rom, the custom recovery flashes it then it says installation aborted. I really need to fix this since I formatted the /system. Thank you for your response.
Info:
Device: T-Mobile Prism U8651T
Custom Recovery: CWM-based Recovery v6.0.1.0
Rom: Cyanogenmod 7.2 UNOFFICIAL

Removing these apps(With Titanium backup) and installing play store alternatives is a good start but cm works too.
Poweramp is a good music app that lets you tune eq with the freq.
Stock roms usually suck until they are messed with.
(As you can see I like to modify stock to my whims and I dont like custom roms, only custom kernels)
You can try my tool in my signature because it has a rooting feature.
But if your running android 4.0 or above it wont root
In that case you will have to look for device specific methods.
After installing the N8000XXALGA_N8000OXXALG5_PHE_RootGalaxyNote.com via Odin, the message "Unfortunately, S Note has stopped working" pops up every 5-9 seconds.
How do I resolve this situation?
Losing S-Note is not to be considered a preferable option.
The tablet is currently not really usable, as S-Note appears to be relaunching and crashing, so I can get one click, touch, or gesture between notices.
I wanted root access to avail myself of the market enabler, so I downloaded the pre-rooted ROM that's supposed to be reliable and stable, and it's supposed to keeps things stock, except for the fact that the tablet would then be rooted.
But now, I get an error message every 5 seconds telling me that S Note stopped working.
I can now get one click in, in between notices. What's worse, I can't temporarily stop S Note, to at least disable the warning, and let me try to do something.
I can't use my tablet, at all. And I haven't any other ROMs handy (except for the Jelly Bean leak).
But all I wanted was STOCK rooted... Not headache.
All I want is to use market enabler so I can download geometriq. Is that too much to ask for?!?!?
In my despair, I went into recovery mode and hit the factory reset button. I restarted my tablet as if brand new, all my files gone, my settings rearranged to default, everything... I would have backed up, but without root, I couldn't get Titanium Backup installed, previously. Now, even the demo stuff that comes with SNote is missing. Although, everything seems to be working, now.

You don't need root for that. Isn't market enabler an app for devices which don't have install unknown sources in settings? I had that app on my old phone. Note has the option built in. Note 10.1 settings, in security, has option to check unknown sources. Which allows you to install apps from other sources and not just marketplace. Works well for me as ive installed tons of apps that way and wasn't from marketplace.
If that's not what you mean then my bust

What you're referring to I think is the allowing of unknown sources. That's a little different from what I'm trying to do.
On a slightly different but still relevant note -no pun intended... Can I re-install S Note; if so, how?
Re-install your stock rom using ODIN... This will give back all stock apps...
Then go here - http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-no...t-galaxy-note-10-1-easiest-methodcwmmethod-2/ and follow the instructions... This will give root access to your stock rom (n8000) and you don't have another countries CSC...

Thanks for the reply.
But, that's exactly what I had done.
However, you know that initial collection of notes that are included, in a stock ROM?
My S Note is still missing that.
When I launch my S Note, it's barren
-not a single solitary note.
That's why I wasn't sure if reinstalling the ROM installed a brand new S Note, or what.
And that's why I was asking about reinstalling S Note itself.
As soon as you start a new note (+ key) it will give you the option of what note template you want to use...
And if you have installed an OTA to the latest you will now have a landscape template...

Thanks again for the reply. And thanks for bringing the landscape template to my attention; my S Note includes this template...But I'm not referring to the templates... I'm referring to the initial four Books, I think it was, that are included.
I'm not really sure what all I'm missing out on,
due to the absence of these included readings, that are missing from my Note 10.1
(I think one of these notes or a couple of the notes, are manuals).
But, beyond that, I really really want the ability to have a note/memo [like S Memo's widget allows].
On my S3 I have a whole pane dedicated to an instance of the widget.
I keep a list of things I need to do, on it; and it's always staring at me, without me having to do anything at all -I don't need to launch an application, I don't need to click any shortcuts, or go to any folder -it's just there..
And when I need to edit it or add something to it, I just simply double tap the screen, without having to launch any apps or go to application folders, or anything.
S Note has the mini app -but the mini app is REALLY always there, as in you can't get away from it, unless you close it.
And more importantly, for as long as it's there, it's editable, so it's prone to accidental smears.
S Note is an alright piece but it's just shy of gimmicky.
This S Memo feature, which enables users to take the S Pen and write a note -and keep it indefinitely handy is slightly harder to find. I've found other memo apps and note taking apps that are close -but never quite right. Some don't allow you to hand write (you have to keyboard your info in); and others don't offer this ever so wonderful widget...
This has become a tangential rant, hasn't it?
Sorry...
I just want S Memo for my note 10.1
I think I also had this issue after installing the pre-rooted European ROM on a US N8103.
I managed to find a solution - too late for you now though
1) Installing Titanium Backup Root + Pro Key via the Play Market in Windows
2) In TB Freezing S-Note and then wiping the cache (Swipe Left on the Apps Backup Properties to get to the Special Properties) I also tried wiping the Apps Data but that didn't make any difference.
You could do the same thing in Application Manager but I think it would take about 20 minutes scrolling down to maybe get to S Note whilst the message popped up. Alternately you could add a short cut to the home screen and try long pressing and dropping on to App Info - which you could maybe just about do between pop-ups.
I guess you could stick a recovery on it and just wipe the cache full stop?
[EDIT]
BTW how did you get on with the OTA didn't work out so well for me

I had the same issue after flashing the root injected stock ICS through ODIN. I was going from a rooted JB Rom (that did not work, and was not JB.. AA not the best site.)
Anyways the only way I was able to fix it was to painfully go through the Settings>Applications>All>S-Note Clear Cache/Data, and Force Stop.
It's tedious as hell, but it works. Your lucky yours is popping up every 5 minutes mine was about every 30 seconds took awhile to get through those menus! Hope this solves your issue!
Evening folks, as phones such as my trusty HTC Sensation come to the end of their useful lives, to be replaced by other newer phones, I was wondering if there was such a thing as a 'non phone' ROM I could flash which would remove the calling, texting etc functions and allow it to be used as a 'ipod touch' (for want of a better description). I would be quite happy putting a dummy SIM card into the phone and simply not allowing it to touch the network but I would be happier with the calling etc functions removed from the phone, especially as I'm hoping to give it to my kids to play with.
Any advice? Does such a thing exist? I had a quick google and couldnt really see anything too relevant. Happy to be corrected on that though!
Haven't seen a ROM like that here..
I'm not sure why you want those features removed, but if you want that your kids don't use them, you can set up a password lock on those apps.
I don't think there's any such ROM. But why you insisting on no network feature. Just don't insert the SIM and it will work.

You can remove those by using certain apps that can do it. I think titanium backup has this functionality. However, as these apps are not heavy, simply hiding them will do the work.
Edit: Just remembered, on most ROMs. the phone and messaging apps have other apps that depend on them, so removing them completely might cause issues. Hiding them from the drawer (possible on many AOSP based launchers and some Sense ROMs built-in) would be the simplest way to "remove" the apps.

Hi all! I have been looking into rooting and installing a custom ROM to my Samsung Galaxy S10, and was wondering if there existed some ROM that had some feature that resembled Samsung's Secure Folder, or maybe just an app that could replicate it. I know that Shelter exists and that it allows to have sandboxed clones of individual apps, but I'm looking for something that allows me to have multiple apps sandboxed together, as if it were in a completely separate Android installation.
Any idea if something like this exists? Thanks!

Samsung apps and Samsung specific features are only supported by stock Samsung, they do not work with custom ROMs and can't be made to work with custom ROMs. If you want to use any kind of Samsung specific feature or app, you will have to use stock Samsung software.

Thank you for answering, but that's not what I was asking...
I am looking for something like Samsung's app Secure Folder, for an alternative.
I am not looking for how to install that same app after getting a custom ROM running. I already knew that it was not possible to do so, I just didn't mention it because I figured it would not be necessary.
