[Q] I need steps to change the firmware for JB and setting to S-OFF - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hi,
My phone (AT&T HTC One XL) is running on a Viper XL 4.2 Rom. Of late I see signal drops (No Service) and random reboots. Could some one please help me with to overcome these issues. I am using this phone in India and the service provider is Airtel.
**I read in a forum that changing the firmware and security setting to S-off would help. If yes could you please guide me on this.
Current phone settings are as below,
***TAMPERED***
***UNLOCKED***

HBOOT-1.14.0002
RADIO-0.19as.32.09.11_2

Thanks for your help and support.

First you need to find out if you have SuperCID or not. The fastboot command to show your current CID is:
Code:
fastboot oem readcid
If it shows up as 11111111 you have SuperCID, if not you need to get SuperCID first.
Once you have SuperCID you can get s-off, you'll find that thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155071
Once you have s-off you can update your firmware, you'll find the download and instructions in the first post of this thread:

Looks like you've flashed the 2.15 firmware so the Beastmode kernel isn't necessary.

Is it good HBOOT?

Sorry for stupid questions, but it's my first HTC phone.
I have following info in bootloader:
Code:
locked
saga pvt ship s-off rl
hboot-2.00.0002
radio-3822.10.08.04_m
emmc-boot
aug 22 2011,15:22:13
Is it fully working S-OFF unlocked bootloader? I don't understand "locked S-OFF". What can I unlock more? Do you recommend me a downgrade? If yes, why?
What is it ENG bootloader? I've read that it's normal, stock HBOOT, but others describes it as unlocked, S-OFF HBOOT with more commands.
I want to use every ROM at xda without any restrictions.
Thanks for any help.

What you asking is similar with my recent question, you can read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1940982
AFAIK when you S-OFF you can flash any ROM for DS easily without need a pc or laptop to flash boot image in case you are S-ON because it will done when you flashing a ROM via recovery.

This is in the wrong forum, should be in the Q&A forum. Anyway, you need to re-lock the bootloader and run any of the RUUs for the AT&T One X. You could also just flash a new ROM. If you are going to flash a new ROM you definitely need to change the recovery to TWRP, CWM is not supported on the Evita and is very buggy.

You don't need to change the CID if you're s-off. Just go to androidruu.com and download the RUU you want to run.

You're s-off so SuperCID doesn't matter, just run the RUU and you'll be fine.

You're in the wrong forum, this is the Ville C2 forum. Allow me to redirect you to the Ville forum. :good:
Since you're S-ON, we need to know what your CID is... I think you should find in in bootlloader.
Another option is to get S- OFF and then you are able to use any RUU you want
And what goes wrong when trying to go back to stock?
Do you get any error messages?

I believe that's true only for RUUs older than Jelly Bean, JB RUUs do not accept other CIDs (also no super CID).
But I might be wrong!

[SOLVED] Question regarding Updating HBOOT

I am trying to install the newest ROMs available in this forum but most of them require to update to HBOOT 2.15 or 2.16
but I don't know what steps I should take. in some other thread it was suggested to use RUU but Im not able to find the RUU for my phone ( ORANGE mobile)
Please let me know what is the easiest way to update HBOOT ( and also s-off the phone)
P.S. I have already unlocked the phone and installed custom ROM and kernel ( ROM MIUI-4.4.25 and kernel 3.4.10-Bulletproof-1.4+)
You didn't specify on which hboot you're currently on...

You should first get S-Off to update your hboot. I used rummrunner for that and it was easy. Afyer that you can flash another hboot and get rid of that red warning too
Sent from nowhere over the air...
Thank you Rapier, I was able to flash to hboot 2.15; now I have one more question, in your experience which one is better 2.16 or 2.15?
I did the following steps (if any one is intrested to know):
1. used rumrunner (as Rapier said) to s-off my phone
2. Downloaded the hboot in the post (menstioned in the next step) and changed the cid number in the file "android-info.txt" to my phones cid which is "ORANGE202"
2. followed the steps in this post.
There are pros and cons to each...
Mainly the difference is the partition layout. 2.16 use a single partition for both system and data so you'll get more storage and space for apps. Downside is that it is an unofficial hboot (comes from a leaked, never released HTC ROM) and all ROMs support the official 2.15 hboot. Some have builds for 2.16 as well but those are unofficial and you cannot post bugs or expect them to be solved if they're not bugs encountered on 2.15 also. So 2.15 has better support from this point of view.
You should check in dev section which ROMs are specifically built for 2.16 and flash only those if you decide to flash that hboot
There was also an issue in recovery that doesn't allow sdcard to be mounted on 2.16 but I'm not sure if latest recoveries fixed that. Beware that also for recovery you must flash one built for 2.16
That's mainly all about this
