[q] cwm wont work - Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G

banging my head against the wall here , wasted 2 days reflashing phone
I followed all the guides and searched high and low for a solution to get CWM on my tmobile blaze 4g
I have stock GB , 2.3.6 on my phone
was able to root and have superuser installed
anytime i flash CWM via odin , it says successful and when I try to take out the batt , hold vol up/down and power , i still get the default stock recovery over and over and over again .... about to throw this phone in the garbage
I flashed it the same way it says in instructions , place the cwm file in the pda section , make sure partition isn't selected then hit start
FYI
no i dont have kies running in background , or any other program that would interefere with pc odin
I would seriously appreciate any help
PS. am I trying to get to CWM the wrong way , or ist he default to getting to CWM is holding power/ volume up and down , then inserting battery while usb is connected

LOL, that was happenning to me recently (sometime yasterday). I thought that was it, the end of my Inspire, and I did VOL UP+POWER , I even trying to hook up to pc and redo the rooting, wouldn't work at on. Then google is my best friend , VOL DOWN+POWER got me back to Recovery mode, I will remember for the rest of my Android phone's life
that takes me into regular recovery not clockworkmod
Do you see an option that says Recovery after you get into hboot?

Also, make sure you don't have a PD98IMG file on the root of your SD card or it will always try to install that and not let you select recovery from the options. ( this happened to me multiple times before I realized what was going on.)

To get into cwm
Hold volume up, down, and power
Release power when the first Samsung logo pops up. But stay holding volume buttons until cwm screen comes up

[Q] Bricked my phone, cant get to download mode

While trying to install ICS via method B ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1878458 ), I bricked my infuse.
When starting up, it has the samsung logo, and then a screen that says Galaxy S Cynaogen Mod.
I cannot get into download mode (hold volume buttons but not power, insert battery, insert usb). I can get to CW recovery mode, and have used the keytest function to make sure my power button didnt think it was being held down. I also tested the volume buttons, both work (and I need them pressed to get to recovery mode anyway). I have tried 2 USB ports and 2 different USB cables.
When I attempt to go into download mode, it just gives me the samsung->galaxy S cyanogen mod screens.
How do I go about unbricking my infuse?
Have you tried flashing a rom and then attempting to boot normally?
Also, try first inserting the battery, then press both vol buttons and insert usb. Not sure if it might make a difference.

Not sure if you tried it but if you can get to CWM, do another factory wipe reset, flash ROM and correct GAPPS, wipe cache and wipe Dalvik cache and reboot. See if doing it again helps.

Thanks for the quick replies!
I cant install another ROM, since I cant get to download mode, and dont have one on the internal SD card (and cant get to the external one).
Also, try first inserting the battery, then press both vol buttons and insert usb. Not sure if it might make a difference.

Ive tried it both ways, neither works, it just boots normally (but hangs at the galaxy s cyanogen mod screen).
May need to try using SDK as describe in this thrrad.

Ive done some reading, do you think a USB jib to force it into download mode would work?
MIght work. Other have had some success.
Ok, ive tried using the SDK, and I cant get my phone to come up in the list of connected devices. Ive ordered the jig, and not really sure what to try until it arrives.

[Q]

Hi all
my P6800 is acting up and I could use some help.
Not sure if something broke due to a fall or maybe it's a software/setting issue but here is what's going on:
- the power button seems to have taken the volume up functionality. sometimes it feel like it's doing both (i.e. volume up and power pressed together) because when I reset I sometimes get to the android recovery page (where you can reboot, update from storage, wipe everything, etc.)
- when I connect it to the charger it keeps going to the lock screen (i.e. I unlock it and after 2 seconds it goes back to the lock screen). it's working fine if I unplug it
Now, I figured I might as well wipe it clean and install the new JB (currently on ICS) but it's very hard to get to the download screen without a being able to hold the power button (for the power+volume down combo).
I did manage to get to it once (I was randomly rebooting while pushing different things) but I can't manage to do it again
so my questions for the pros out there are:
- Any idea how can I resolve the button functionality?
- Is there an alternative way to get to the download screen? I can live without the power buttom if it's a hardware malfunction but I want to at least do it with JB...
thanks
O
If you are rooted, try the app "RebootMenu" free from Google Pay
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.riceknight.gs2reboot&hl=en
There are others too
Edit: If you are still unable to select anything in recovery (power button issue), instal TWRP recovery instead of CWM

I can select stuff in the recovery menu. pressing the power button goes one up and selects (which is consistent of it acting as both power and volume up)
Not rooted at the moment but might try it
thanks

Thanks a lot!
worked.
Root, then used RebootMenu and now I'm running JB
Power button still acts as volume up but I guess I can live with it (and use Reboot menu to reboot every now and then)
cheers

Until OP replies, just a guess ....
1. Root from stock 3e recovery (Chainfire method) power button acting as both vol up+ power
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849235
2. Installed reboot app
3. Booted into DL mode and flashed JB with Odin
4. re-root by same method (if root lost during flash)

Yeap, exactly.
Didn't do #4 yet though. I thought that method (without CWM recovery) didn't work for JB

Not sure about JB, but
With Mobile Odin Pro app you can flash firmware straight from your rooted device and option to retain root.
No need for DL mode

mate just stop blaming him for using the wrong key combination
question to op:
can you boot into download mode?? (volume down+power+home)
if you can:
download your country's firmware from sammobile.com
extract that zip
connect your phone to your computer with your usb cable (make sure your cable is working fine)
click on "pda" in odin, choose the file you extracted from your zip.
the odin should say comort (or a number)
and also shows that you are connected: "added!"
click start
wait until it finishes, your phone should boot up with no problem now
don't unplug when it's still flashing
I can get into download mode. Going to try that now. Also when I said volume up + home + quit I meant quit as the power button.
Edit: Installed stock and rooted now. Thanks.
