Upgrading to 4.2 worth it or too complex? - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I thought the tablet sucked with the stock Jelly Bean ROM, so last year-ish I upgraded to CleanROM (I believe that's what it was called?). Well I wanted to upgrade to a better ROM as this one seemed awfully sluggish after a few months. Unfortunately that process seemed incredibly difficult, and the instructions seemed really difficult for what might have been minor gains.
I guess my question is: is it worth it to upgrade? Are there significant gains to be had/will this tablet stop slowing down after awhile? If so, how hard is it to upgrade? Can someone point me into the right direction? Thanks in advance.

Try running lagfix off the play store as well as cleaning dalvik cache and cache from twrp. That should get you zipping along nicely again.

I'll give that a shot. What ROM are you running?

There are always issues with every update on every OS (iOS, Windows, MacOS, etc) no matter what brand, device, or architecture.
If anyone tells you different they are trying to sell you something.
From what I can tell the only ones with problems are the ones with root..... Which everyone knew was going to cause issues.... If you change your core system, expect problems when you get an update that alters said core system and requires the original files. Simple as that.
Also, it's one update for millions of variable systems. That's bound to cause issues.
Umm.. Which problems are we talking about? I was rooted and with update nada problems.
This is better update that I expected

People like me that were rooted and had done things like modify LCD density which modifies build.prop which prevents the OTA from going through.
It was just a small workaround that took maybe 15 minutes of time to manually reinstall .30, reroot, then reinstall JB.
I wouldn't even call it a problem, really.
I myself have no issues as far as I know but you get a lil nervous when you shwear everyone else's problems on here

Android was designed (...arguably) to be easily modified, of course we'll see problems come up because many users like to tweak their devices. I'm having problems with mine, though I know it's gone through a custom rom and several tweak mods. Am I frustrated that I can't access fastboot? Yes. Am I surprised? No. Am I raging at Asus? No.

I've owned all 4 Asus Tablets. This is by far the best update since day one. Any and all issues I've ever had are gone. This is the way the Transformer was suppose to work since day one.
Now I can proudly say this is the best tablet on the market to date. Bar none!

This. Rooted, prepped for the update (unfroze stuff, restored build.prop). Updated, restored root, cold booted. I was going to factory reset but it is running so well right now, I may not bother unless I see some kind of crash, etc. Best update I've had on a TF so far.

Help me choose a rom

Number 1 for me is stability. I am looking for a Rom that fully works or for the most part everything is working. Full camera functionality/flash, Sending and receiving SMS & MMS, GPS (I use navigation often), making and receiving calls, all the basic stuff that work on stock. Stability is my main objective. Second would be battery life & fluidity. Everything else like customization options is a nice bonus
I expected the Jelly Bean OTA to be better than it was. I did a factory reset when I got the update to make sure my phone started fresh. Even formatted internal and external SD card. I just expected a better experience. They took away some things I loved and added some things I don't like. But the main thing that bothers me is the occasional stutter/lag. And I notice battery life is worst on the JB OTA. I thought JB was suppose to be refined, it's not totally buttery smooth like they promote it to be. At least not on the stock Verizon variant of the GS3.
I am looking at "The Executioner" or the CleanRom/CleanRom Lite Edition. Any opinions or thoughts by people who have ran both would be appreciated!! I realize roms, as most things in life are a personal preference but I'd still like to get some opinions.
Another silly thread. We already have a few of these in the same section. Post there.

This post doesn't really give me an opinion on The Executioner Rom vs. CleanRom/CleanRom Lite Edition? I tried doing a search but nothing came up on the comparison of the two. Can you send me a link to that particular thread? I'd appreciate it bro. I'm only asking the people who have tried those two roms or either CleanRom or Executioner.

Thanks for the feed back!! Is there any common bugs people been experiencing with it? All the basic functions are working well? Again I appreciate the reply, I'm brand new to the S3 section of the site. This makes me excited to see what the rom is about. I take it the rom has no stutters or occasional lag like the stock touchwiz.

I use the CM10 Nightlies. I update about once a week or so. And I have had very minimal issues. When I did run into any, I just updated the next day and the issue was fixed. And you can report bugs to the developers to help expedite the fixes as they come up. Not to mention no more touchwiz, *Gag*

I heard CM roms were great for customization but may not be most stable? I was thinking of trying it anyways. I like the AOSP or pure Google look and feel. I gotta think about it I don't know if I'll have the time to flash an update every day for a bug fix lol. Thank you for the input

I forgot to ask, thing that bothers me most about the recent official JB OTA, I am required to have my GPS turned on to refresh my weather Widgets. Being connected to the net is not enough anymore m after the update, now I need GPS on for some reason? Is this the case for the Executioner Rom or no?

People spend hours putting together guides, doing reviews, etc. It's frustrating sometimes to see how little effort some people put into utilizing the forum.
It works both ways. These boards would be alot less cluttered if people searched. We're all guilty of it, I'm not preaching. Just know where he coming from.
For example there's a great guide in the android development forum that compares many different roms.

Double that here. I used stock ICS for an absurd amount of time, finally got around to rooting it, and recently talked myself into giving CM10 a whirl.
Glad I did. So far the only complaint I really have is the profiles settings do not currently have a way to disable vibration if you turn the ringer off. This is a CM wide bug from what I read on the net. But hey, look at it this way, ICS doesn't even have profiles!
I'd be skeptical about battery life estimations though, invariably people use their phone more when they have a new rom...from tinkering with it all the time, or not trusting it so they check the phone more often. I'm not saying there are not differences, just saying they are usually slight in reality, and it's up for debate if they mean anything in the long run.
While you can use google now with ICS, it's an inferior version. Google now is a great reason to upgrade to a Jelly Bean rom if you ask me.

4.1.2 is here

Hey guys,
Just letting you know I have leaked 4.1.2 for our devices over in my thread. Link Here
Enjoy. :good:
EDIT: Just a small note, this does not yet include the Premium Pack (multi-window, etc...) this is just Verizon's first test build of 4.1.2. Mostly bug fixes and minor features.
hmm..any nice updates on 4.1.2 over 4.1.1?
Yes the 4.2 gapps and should have multi window stock.

Yeah, it seems like people are really hyped about 4.1.2. It's basically any custom TW ROM already released, since the 4.1.1 ROMs have 4.1.2 features in them. Now, if it were 4.2, that'd be something to get hyped about!

Nah they're correct to be excited. Samsung explicitly stated their new "premium suite" update with Note 2 features (like multi-window) would become available in 4.1.2. However it seems none of these features are available in the current leak. Perhaps the next one!

Its only been a day BUT I have noticed a huge difference in performance since running it. I havent added anything to the Rom that I havent ran before. I used to have a delay on my menu button when using Apex as my default, its gone, the version of Apex is the same. My camera loads much faster than it used to, I would have a 2-3 second black screen delay when starting the cam. Now its almost instant every time. I have a lot more free Ram than old stock version, I debloated the heck out this Rom and am steady between 480-600mb used with over 1gb free! My last Rom ran between 700mb-1gb used. The Group play app works well actually and its really easy to use. Quad scores are up. Battery seems better, im on 18hrs with 1hr 45min screen on, 59% left.
Again, these are my findings after 24+ hrs, yours will vary. I run LK.

You guys that are getting excited about 4.2.1 must have never used it before. This version will become known as the Windows Vista of Android.
The biggest bug I have is https://code.google.com/p/android/i...c=ID Type Status Owner Summary Stars&id=39633 . It was somewhat fixed in 4.2.2, but not completely. There are several other issues introduced in 4.2. There are lots of people that believe that nothing since 4.1.2 has been better than that version. Each Android since then has had bugs that ruin the experience and should have been caught by the beta testing team.

You're talking strictly TW right? Because the only issues with 4.2 AOSP are the signal and bluetooth, which I believe was fixed with 4.2.2. The signal has been worked on and is actually pretty decent depending on which ROM you flash. What other "experience ruining" bugs have you dealt with?
