My wife has a stock Verizon Galaxy S III. She is finding many new icons on her desktop that all point to Play Store app download links. We cannot figure out which app is placing them there.
Could someone please point me at a solution or a thread discussing this. I have searched without success.
If they are shortcuts to programs already installed then its a setting you can change within the play store itself. However if that is not the case then try an app called Addons Detector by Denper.

They are all shortcuts to Play Store suggesting she download a game or similar app. I will try Addons Detector.

its a rogue app. not the playstore. this is one of my main reasons for rooting. ADAWAY and AirPush Block.
whatever app is doing it IT WILL TELL YOU upon installing. once you open it you have to agree to the terms and cond. it clearly states it will add icons to your home screen and give you ads in the notification tray

Does anyone have an apk for an app switcher or info to point me in the direction to find one? The Amazon market doesn't have anything besides some swipe gesture one that is $1. Figured there were free ones out there I could grab if only I could get to their apks.
I'm not rooted so I don't have access to the Google Market.

getjar.com?? what exactly are you looking for
getjar doesn't actually download anything on the fire. My guess is it normally just hands the downloading off to the google market, so on the fire all i see is the download screen pop up for a second then disappear. Nothing ever downloads.
Basically I want a way to get the stock android task switcher when you hold down the home key. Holding down the soft home key on the fire does nothing.
I'd like a way to switch between apps easily.
I see that many apps exist in the google market that do this but since I have no market access I need apks.
I can download apps with getjar on my Fire....i selected the G2x as my device when it asked

There should be a "supported" Kindle Fire GetJar available now. Was supposed to be available by 4pmPST on the 16th.
When you choose the fire as your device all of the app selection disappears. guess we'll have to wait for apps to be marked as fire compatible.

I tried this. Prompted me to grab the getjar app from m.getjar.com, which I did.
But even then, after hitting download, nothing downloads.
I'm using AppSwipe.

This is exactly what I needed. Definitely not a nice as just holding down the Home button, but better than nothing at all... *shrugs*
Thanks!

This is great!
I've got the icon sizes set to about 100 instead of the default of 50. that made the icons much more finger friendly. Great find, thanks so much.
I just purchased the unlock code which is in the amazon app store, yet somehow the app doesn't recognize that I have purchased the app. Weird. The unlocked version lets you do things like launch it by double tapping on the Home button, which would be perfect.
I emailed the dev. hope he gets back to me soon.
Just an update that AppSwipe is in the Amazon market for the Kindle now. No need to sideload it.
Unfortunately you can't get long search or home button press events from the Fire buttons, so I have it set to launch on double tap of the home button.
I set the dock icons to be 140px which makes them about the same size as the icons on the home screen in the Fire launcher. Finger friendly.

I know you tried a detector. Did you try Airpush Detector? That one had never failed me.
Tried that one, shows nothing.

Bump, also getting same ad. Tried every detector out there... Not picking up a thing!
Can you show us a list of installed apps?

That's it... most of it are from legit companies or Google... no idea what this could be from!
Also, the ads are for apps from the playstore - "sexy cutie (live)" and "run run bear" (both of which appear to be made by the same developer).
Thanks for your help!
It may be widgetlocker, try to uninstall it and see if you get it again

Same here, intermittent but annoying.
choosing the notification takes you to the Google play app page
Edit:
Might be GoKeyboard, I think it started after i turned it on.

Are you sure? I have widget locker on my Droid x and my kindle fire and I don't get spam.
sexy cutie - spam
I don't have that widgetlocker, but I receive this spam,
Did anyone solve the issue??? I have uninstalled GO SMS Pro, but seems like something else making it appear in the notification bar...
Go to the Play Store and download Lookout's Ad Detector. It should scan your apps and tell you.
+1

I am guessing the same, could be Go Launcher or Go Keyboard. Coz i also have them installed.
Absolutely Go Keyboard. I used Addons Detector - Notification Monitor, and it showed:
GO Keyboard

Too bad, now I have to delete all GO-stuff..
it's crazy. I have been using go-team apps for a long time and I had never thought that they can do such a thing. Thanks for that sad info

Ditto. I use Go-SMS as my texting app and used to use Go Launcher on my GS2.
It is the Go stuff eh?
Welp, Bye bye go... eat my ass.
Thanks guys.
Hi everyone ,
This is my first time here so hopefully I can get some help.
Every time I turn on my tab I get app pop ups on my home screen and also automatically apps are saving to my pages, I've gone through my settings and checked to see if I have anything turned on that shouldn't be, if someone could point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated as it's really starting to annoy me.
Cheers Headman

It's a rogue app the causes that. It contains adware and spyware by changing your homepage (monitor what you search), constantly adds search icon on homescreen and comes up with annoying ads in both the notification bar and by pop ups.
Run this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brosmike.airpushdetector&hl=en
And remove those apps.

Agreed, my fiance had one in her phone and it would push notifications, pop-ups, all sorts of invasive stuff. I wanna say she used an app "installer" ( like the ones found in 4shared), which was what installed the "rouge" app.

I'm basically purging all the useless applications i'll never use from a fresh install of CyanogenMod 10.1 Jellybean 4.2.2 and I can't find the .apk anywhere in the app folder. Does anyone know what the .apk is called so I can remove this garbage please?
Thanks.

Don't worry about finding the APK. You can unistall it using Titanium Backup or System Tuner or any of 100 similar apps to unistall it. In those options it will appear in the App list as Movie Studio and not whatever goofy name the APK file has.
You can also freeze it in the Manager Apps section of the settings. That won't delete it but will disable it competely.
Cool thanks. So far all i've done is go into Settings -> Launcher -> Drawer -> Hidden Apps and basically ticked that, will that do for the time being? Also, is Titanium Backup free and can I get it of the Marketplace?
Thanks.

No hiding it only removes it from the app drawer. It may still be running in the background.
There is a free version of titanium on the play store...using it you can uninstall or disable any app.
Hope that helps

That is 100% wrong. I just personally confirmed it. Disabling an app in the settings menu formally freezes it and makes it completely unable to run in any capacity until it is unfrozen.
Please don't post something as a fact unless you are certain its a fact. Posting wrong information will confuse new users and others searching for help later.

So am I alright keeping the method I used to hide it? Will that stop it from running in the background etc.? or do I still need Titanium Backup to remove it?
Thanks.
Disabling the app will render the app unusable until you re-enable the app. If you need to use the app sometimes then I would try the app greenify from the play market. Greenify simply hibernates the app.

Just wanting to confirm that there's no shortcut to the play store built into the launcher anywhere? I've had a look around and there doesn't seem to be one. It seems like quite a regression to me having to find it in the app drawer or have it on the home screen, unless I'm missing something?
Yeah can confirm. I believe it has to do with decoupling the play store from the core of android, giving better security / control over app installation. Don't have to hunt very far
