Just curious to know. - General Questions and Answers

I just read, for rooting unlocked bootloader we flash a specific kernel, then root using doom-lord's method, flash back stock ROM.
So y do that if you go for custom ROM?
I mean, if I flash custom kernel directly, then it will provide me root access?
Or after root, instead of flashing stock ROM and then installing custom ROM can't we just directly flash custom ROM?

Custom kernel may not give root permission.
Because there for root permission you need superuser app to be installed.Which may be given through custom rom .
So custom rom will give root permission.

So what it actually do?
I flash a kernel that makes rooting easy,
Then I root it.
So what is it changing?
I mean if I flash cm directly, will it not give me root access? Cos the kernel and ROM are already changed.
If root doesn't modify kernel or ROM, then what does it modify?

Just don't confuse.
After flashing anything, like may be rom or kernel.using root checker.apk ,check the mobile rooted. If no root,if yes say thank god.
Good luck.

In some phones, like the Galaxy S2, the bootloader comes unlocked. Hence, it is possible to root directly by flashing a custom kernel. Rooting can also be done without flashing a custom kernel also.
But in other phones, the bootloader would be locked. To unlock it, we would have to flash a vulnerable kernel first. Then root it. Then restore the previous kernel.
Or sometimes, the bootloader would be unlockable. In which case we would have to go for a SafeStrap recovery and stuff.

As for flashing custom ROMs, you need to be rooted and have a custom recovery. Because the stock recovery doesn't allow flashing non-official ROMs. :good:

Rooting doesn't modify anything mate. Simply put, rooting means injecting two binaries (su and busybox) into the system folder, and installing a Superuser app. This gives the user administrative access. :good:

Then ask it directly know.
Root does these below things.
1.Install superuser.apk to system/app.
2.Put su files to lib folder.
This task ,kernel will not dnly costum rom can do.
I think I was up to your point.

[Q] Flashing a custom ROM the official way?

Is it not possible to code a custom ROM so as to then flash it the same way an official ROM is flashed?
Greetings, fellow Oklahoman.
What do you mean "the official way"? RUU? PD98IMG.zip?

Hi. Thanks for the reply. What I mean is how an official ROM is flashed when an upgrade is issued. A notice is given that there is an upgrade and you download and install the upgrade. Can a custom ROM not be installed this way? Rather than having to go through the process of rooting the phone and then flashing one of the available custom ROMs. I would think it would be possible to issue a rooted ROM as an upgrade flash.
Wow. U must be truly a noob. The only way u can flash a custom rom is that u have to be rooted and have s off achieved first. And once u achieve that, you are talking about an over the air update. Which that only can happen from an unrooted totally stock phone. The only thing that comes close to that is an update from rom manager, in which u have to be rooted first before rom manager will work properly, which will download and install a custom rom of your choosing.
In other words, you have to be rooted and s off in order for u to do anything outside of stock

I think the OP was asking if its in anyway possible to flash a custom rom via RUU not OTA. In the same way that ROMS for Samsung devices can be cooked to flash via ODIN as opposed to CWM...

[Q] Root 2.3.6

I have 2 Samsung Infuse 4g. One is 2.2 and the other 2.3.6. I rooted the 2.2 with superoneclick...no problem. But the 2.3.6 will not root, with or without debug on. Could someone please help? And once rooted, how do you unlock, or do I even need to since I switched AT&T sim for Straighttalk sim and it works fine in both. I would appreciate any help. Thanks guys.

Flash with SGS flasher. Now sure if that works without root. If not flash in CWM. Boom. Done.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk
If you have cwm you likely have root and if you don't have root(entropy dd kernel has root removed so you can update it) you can root through cwm with an su updater package. if you don't have root you can't use kernel flasher.
you will need to flash the rooting kernel remotely with either Odin or heimdall.

[Q] How to root JB without PC ?

How to root without using PC or flashing kernals ? in my SGS2 there is a zip that I can flash through stock recovery without having to flash unsecure kernal and CWM and then back to stock
with the last official update I've lost the root permission
so is it possible to have root installed through temporarily custom recovery via the stock one ? i.e without having to change anything in the rom except for root ?
thanks in advance .
Use ExynosAbuse.

Just be aware that the new 4.1.2 JB official rom from Germany no longer allows you to use the exynos exploit. It's better to download the rom then install using Mobile ODIN. This allows you to tick ever root and keep root...

Try this page .......... ClockworkMod Recovery by Zedomax. Download his "HighOnAndroid v1 ClockworkMod Recovery 6.0.1.1" and flash with Odin. The Download link is on the page.

.
Or better yet, use Mobile odin and install using only your tablet....

[Completed] [Q] Retore OTA after root

I'm trying to restore the ability to do OTA updates after I've rooted my device. I;ve tried unrooting but that doesn't solve the problem.
How does the OS check that you have rooted the device in the past? I don't have access to a stock rom (Yet) to check if a firmware flash might restore everything to normal.
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist.
You need to be on stock ROM and stock recovery. Also preferably unrooted and without any system modifications like xposed and such. That's all you need to have to be able to get OTAs.

I am on stock rom, I also think that i'm on a stock recovery, since I never flashed the recovery. I used Kingo root to root the device, dont know if that flashed a custom recovery. I'm also not aware of any modifications.

The question was actually answered in a previous thread, no?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/xda-assist/hisense-u800-infinity-h6-restore-ota-t3129478
Anyway, XDA Doesn't have a dedicated forum for that device, so either try and boot to recovery and see if it's stock or custom (custom probably is either CWM or TWRP or Philz), or try asking the same thing over at the Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting.
Thank you.
