lol Jugger-note (plus gsmarena's battery test) - Galaxy Note 3 General

as expected the note 3 got glowing reviews from gsmarena. they went further and did their own battery life test
review: http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note_3-review-996p12.php
battery life test: http://blog.gsmarena.com/samsung-galaxy-note-3-battery-life-test/
getting more excited to get one as there are many shops here without the lock and can be used anywhere

That's odd, according to their tests the note 3 is dimmer than the note 2.how can it be easier to read in sunlight?

sunlight eligibility depends also on the screen reflectance. note 3 just has lower reflectance and higher max brightness

Remember that's not even with auto-brightness on. Apparently auto-brightness can crank up the display brightness to what would be around 175% on the manual scale. So in real-world scenarios, the Note 3 may do even better than this in sunlight.

S4 screen size....a promising battery time.

A less than 5 inch screen will give us extra hours of battery and the good thing i am expecting is around a 6-8 hour of on screen time with wifi. So i guess it will help us in long hour browsing and this will be the key selling point of s4. Rather than the android versions and stock android competition with the upcoming motorola x phone.

My note has a 2500 mah battery and with a 5.3 screen i get 4 to 4 and a half hour of on screen time with browsing.
So a 5 inch screen with a 3100mah battery and a power efficient soc will definitely give 6-8 hours and thats when i will say that the phones have exceeded the usability of a laptop and notebooks. Many people including me are using their phone as primary device at work.
For me my note is my computer at hospital.

[Discussion]Note III with AnTuTu Benchmark

Note III is really a beast in hardware performance.
see the benchmark result to this device:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gN_3kZWVk_Y
Meanwhile, I wonder if you have check the benchmark details to UX (user experience related benchmarking contents)?
If you have, could you share a post here?
That ain't that beastly a Antutu score imo. I get 28k on my snapdragon 600 s4 with stock shizzle.

I still don't see why anyone benchmarks a phone. What's the purpose? In real world applications more than half of us actually touch the full potential of the device we have.
Its like **** measuring of phones. In that case awesome. Lol.

in current, benchmark helps users to know deeper to the hardware components of a smart phone, as well as good or bad in further daily usage performance.

About buying

Hello
A simple question. Is it worth to buy a note 3 now or is it better to wait for xperia z 2? I mean is note 3 still a fast phone?
Maybe note 3 isbecoming a bit old now or?
sent from my stone Note N7000
A bit old? Lol... This ain't Apple son... The Note 3 is still very powerfull and fast and it will be for a long time yet.
Note 3...almost guaranteed to have better battery life. Z2 is quite chunky even tho note 3 is bigger it is slimmer with better screen ratio compared to borders. Its not water resistant but. Xperia will take my money when battery is better and design isnt so chunky.

Depends on your needs
Note 3
-------------
Removable battery
S Pen
Bigger battery
Z2
------------
Water and dust proof
Faster processor
Better build quality
_______________
If you're into rooting and custom Roms. Samsung is much more fun as builds are released often.
I using note 3 it's very fast and it's constantly on power saver which limits the cpu.
If you need 4K video be sure to get the 4G model N9005
I wish the build quality was better though. For a flagship device it doesn't have the premium feel of an iPhone or HTC

I personally think you should go with the note 3 I had the z1 and yes build quality is amazing with Sony but with major updates Sony pretty much makes a train wreck out of the phones

Funny thing is I love the LG I have currently, I bought it sim free and I've only had it about a month but it's so good that I want that speed and smoothness on an even bigger screen so I ordered the Note 3 yesterday. When it arrives I'll sell the LG G2.
I can't wait till the N3 arrives, I've previously had the Note and Note 2 and the Note 3 looks like a step up.

[Q] Slow motion video on the Nexus 5?

Is there a way to get slow motion video on the nexus 5?
Searched quite a while for a thread where this is addressed, to no avail. So is this something that's being worked on or might get worked on in the future? Or is the Nexus 5 not capable of slo-mo?
Thanks in advance!

Yes I'm curious too. Our snapdragon 800 should be able to support this.... But can ur 8mp shooter well.....
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
@dec1153, well it should be able to. I have seen this feature work perfectly on older phones with lower megapixels.
And this is a very cool feature along with it being somewhat useful too sometimes. Sad that this isn't being actively worked on, as almost every other flagship device does this!

It's nothing to do with megapixels. It's frame rate

Correct, pixel count is irrelevant. I believe it all depends how good the image sensor is. High speed shooting requires more lights. If nexus 5 uses cheaper image sensor, then we are out of luck. For around $300 phone with great hardware specs had to go cheap on some parts..I believe sacrificing camera spec could be one of them.

Pixelated black screen

Does anyone have issues with black screen area getting pixelated? This "black clipping/crushing" issue was huge deal with Note 1(2?) and now I'm seeing on Note 5. It's not as bad as before but it still exists.
Try playing Iron Man 2 the roof scene where Tony kisses Pepper or movie Giver where everything is black and grey.
Do I have defective screen or something?
I have attached image of the screen & gammatest image. It's little hard to tell from whole screen due to camera focus but when I took macro shot of the screen, you can see pixelated blacks on the left and some on Iron Man armor. Trust me it looks worse on screen than picture.
Please download the image and view it on your Note 5 with max brightness, does your screen gamma look alike mine?
Please let me know, thank you
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
I just checked T-mobile store displayed Note 5 and it has same gamma setup and shows pixelation/black clipping issue. When viewing gamma test image, mine from 0-2 is pitch black and 3-10 is little lighter and 11-21 is lighter with same gradient
Also tested on S6 and S6 is set correctly with 0-21 gradually getting dark to light with no pixelated black screen...

I think he meant "how exactly do you test the device" lol.
Oh haha... download the 2nd image I have attached and view it in gallery with Max brightness. If your screen is displaying gradual shade from 0-21 than its good but if it's anything like mine then you are going to have black clipping issue...
This problem seems to exist on many note 5 out there but there are good ones out there I think. I just don't get why not all screens are calibrated the same....
So anyone else having issue like mine?

Download the second image I have attached and open it in gallery, make sure to put brightness to max. If it's showing nice gradual gradient you won't suffer black clipping issue.
