I am in Vancouver, BC, and we have those ShawOpen wifi network around town.
So here is the problem, when I go around town. My phone will connect to the wifi network around town. It will keep connecting and disconnecting to the wifi and data network. Making my IP phone and IM apps act weird.
Is there anyway to keep both wifi and 4g data on at the same time. I know the old app superpower on xda does it on some roms. but doesnt work on stock Razr HD.
BTW I am still on stock 4.1.2 canadian rom (rogers) rooted.

Ive read about the HTC wifi sharing/tethering cab and will give it a try when I get my HD2..
couple quick questions.
1. How does Tmobile's 3g network compare in speed to evdo rev.a or At&t's 3g.
2. On my Palm Pre I use Mobile hotspot and it works perfect.. except when calls come in it stops.. At&t claim you can use the internet and talk on the phone.. Is this the same for Tmobile.. can i tether and receive calls without interpution? I like to stream talk radio at work to my laptop at work via tethering yet it's really annoying when I lose the connection anytime anyone calls.
THanks for any info.
In theory, the TMo 3G should be the fastest save for maybe Sprint? They just rolled out 7.2mbps HSPA+
And yes, you should be able to talk and have data at the same time, even on Tmobile. As long as you have a 3G/H signal.
thanks, thats great!

Actually, T-Mobile's HSPA+ is clocked at 21mbps. And thats only began to be rolled out across the US.
The T-Mobile US HD2 supports HSPA which is 7.2mbps.
The T-Mobile HD2 is also confirmed to support HSPA+ by T-Mobile

To put it simply: execute the Wifi router app and then connect to the phone like any other wifi hotspot.
Didn't I read in another thread, that TMobile removed the Wifi router app?

tethering tmobile hd2
You can also tether your phone through "Internet Sharing." Here is how.
1. Make sure you have Windows Mobile device center. Open it up and connect your hd2.
2. Go into the Connection Settings in the Mobile Windows Device Center and make sure you have "Allow data connections on device when connected to a PC" checked.
3. Go into Internet sharing on your hd2. It can be found under "Tools".
4. Once you open the Internet sharing application. You should see where it says PC Connections:USB and Network Connection: T-Mobile Data. In the bottom left corner you should see the word "Connect."
5. Make sure you have your data connection turn on and then push the word "Connect" and the hd2 will connect to your laptop. Then you can use your t-mobile hd2 to surf the internet through your laptop.
I have already done this and it works for me. God Bless (John 3:16) and Happy Surfing!!!
In reality ( miami, ft lauderdale area) its kinda of sux.
It shows strong 3g Signal but not anywhere near Verizon 3g or ATT 3g. I am using this to for the Ipad and it seems very slow. On some spots it can produce around 1.3 mbps but mostlys tays around 300k to 700K with full 3g Bar .
Waiting for Sprint EVO to switch. I also have 4 other lines with verizon and their network is way faster.
Can't get the Wi-Fi router to work
I just downloaded the HTC Wi-Fi router and can't seem to get it to work. It says it is running, but my laptop will not find my HD2 as a wireless access point.
Any ideas?
I have the HD2 Tmous
Ok, apparently you have to do a restart to get the application to work after installing. I did that and now my laptop can find the HD2 wi-fi, but it can not get connected. It looks like it is establishing a connection, but then fails.
I am having this problem too. I cannot connect my laptop no matter what. Usb or wireless.
I'm even on the stock ROM just to be sure. I'm on ATT.
Mine is working fine with booth a cooked rom on one phone and also a pure one from tmobile.
I might not be using the same one as the link that was posted here.
I searched for "wifi router by tom gordon", and have been using that one.
maybe google for that one and try it. Ive used it and had 3 devices connected to wifi at once.
good luck.

they finally rolled in the HSPA+ network

it's comming soon to Miami area

i get 4Mb/s now
make sure you hit ok when it shows the picture of the laptop and phone
or else the app hasn't started yet.
fyi this is faster than the so called "4g" from sprint.
Sprint's 4G is just marketing.
really isn't a true 4G network
or if you're just tethering for yourself and not a group, you can go the slightly slower route but save power by tethering over bluetooth.
i thought when WIFI was on, it used no cellular data? my 3g keeps popping in and out when i am on WIFI, never had this happen on any other phone.
i am stock rooted EE4
It has to for certain data functions that don't happen over wifi, such as mms.

Could be checking for voicemail or MMS.
I thought mms and phone did not go through the data part. Wifi is the replacement for data which is what the 3G is there for.
This issue was happening for me a couple days ago but now it seems to have gone away. i did upgrade to humble 1.42 rom. not sure if that fixed it?
on verizon, MMS must go through 3G/4G. If your phone can't get an IP from the wifi network, it will still show the bars, but will also show 3G/4G as a fall back.
Mine has done this twice on 2 different roms after using wifi tether on each rom. Never did it before I used that. Have you used wifi tether?
I have to say, after 8 Android phone, I found my favorite. I have an issue now tho. I was with Att for years but I just switched to TMobile to help out a family member. Att gets much better service in my area. I know I can unlock, root and what not but is there a way to connect to an Att tower with my TMobile Sim, maybe force it to roam? I'm willing to only be able to get 2g but still receive text and calls. I'm on campus 9 hours a day with very bad TMobile service while Att is fine. My network on campus blocks wifi calling thru the routers so that will not work. Any ideas?
They should allow roaming. I am gonna subscribe to this because my Droid 3 only gets T-Mobile 2G and roaming off of AT&T 3G would have its advantages.

If there is any t-mobile service at all, then I doubt that you'll be allowed to roam on AT&T towers, have you tried connecting the phone to a computer that is connected to the internet, then enabling "internet pass-through" I think it should allow you to use the internet for calls, unless the computer is connected to a dhcp server with the same wifi call blocks..

I tried this already with no luck. The entire network on campus has ACL's
set up to block all wifi calling, such as skype. This included tmobiles wifi calling. I can see the ATT network when i manually search but it will obviously not connect. I guess I will try and unlock and root then attempt this again. I am just thinking it has something to do with the sim card itself?? Anyone ever tried this before?

Wow a school that blocks Skype? Not sure if that's worse than D/L speeds of .6mbps or what haha
I've been traveling for work a lot lately and have been using my phone for an internet connection. I am tethered using the stock hotspot feature. I'm running ViperXL 3.2.7, the ElementalX 6.5 kernel, and the 3.18 modem. The internet works great when the phone is not being used, but when I take a call the data drops. The laptop doesn't actually disconnect from the wifi hotspot, but I can't get to any sites. I am in an HSPA+ market and have the phone on gsm/edge/wcdma auto mode.
Does anyone have any suggestions on why this might be happening?
Here's my dilemma, not sure how to proceed from here.
I loaded CM10.1 on my phone. I've had no issues with 4G or data in general outside of my office.
In my office though, there is a signal amplifier nearby. For some reason it will get 4G, but will not be able to get any data. It drops down to 3G, and then works, but will continue to attempt the 4G connection. There is plenty of signal strength, but in between switches it will loose all data completely.
I've tried all the different modem firmwares, and I cannot get it to work normally. It used to have 4G all the time in the office without issue on stock. I don't believe reverting to stock will fix the issue, because I've tried and failed.
Will obtaining a new SIM card help, or should I consider another fix?
network extender ? they don't have 4g network extenders yet
mine does the same thing. .usually stays on 3g inside the house..but I'm us usually on wifi

Nah its not a WiFi extender, its a corporate signal repeater

No way of knowing whats happening unless you have the specs for the repeater. How do you know its passing a good 4G data stream? Just because the RF is there, doesn't mean the signal isn't garbage. Seems pretty clear the repeater is doing something bad to the signal since its working ok for you outside the office.

Normally I'd agree but I've had other employees code into the same office with 4g phones (razor max, s4) and they have no problem with 4g
