[Q] USB Host on Custom ROMS? - General Questions and Answers

Hey Team
I'm new to XDA and have read the forum rules; I searched for ages before posting this but came up with nothing relevant.
I have flashed VirginRom 4.3 onto my Galaxy S4 GT-i9505 IOT save battery for reasons mentioned below. Unfortunately; I am unable to mount an external hard drive onto my S4 using a USB OTG cable (does not recognise anything is attached). I believe this is because either my ROM or Kernel is not compatible with USB Hosting. My question is:
Is there a way for us to know what custom ROMS and/or kernels are compatible with USB host (which I consider to be a massive feature), and if so, which one is the most streamlined? I ask because:
Background: I'm in the Army and need a phone with good reception, battery life and storage capacity (size is not an issue). I have an external antenna, battery and 1GB hard drive (connected in parallel with ghetto cable) that I intend to hold together with a 1.8mm aluminium bracket coated in plasti-dip. I have Catia renders (CAD images) is there is interest.
Regards
Jess

Update
I have flashed to CryanogenMOD 10.2 which states that it has USB host support. I have tried both stickmount and Paragon but neither recognize any mounts.

[Q] Need some information about onboard connector [broken usb]

Hi, I believe usb connetor in mobile is not working at all. It is not taking charge, wall mount chargers (tried different ones and all are working in other mobile), tried Computer Usb cables same thing. Since this mobile is not launched in India parts availability is rare or none. can somebody point me if the motherboad or usb connector used in Infuse is having any similartiy to Galaxy s2, captivate, or any other mobile probably launched in india, or the usb connectors are genric ones.
As of now i'm in JB cm-10 scott build. so I assume i can use this even in future as long as i wont do any big mistake where i need to go back to stock. Any other way to go back to stock I mean using sd card, airdroid etc?
Thanks.

[Q] using a usb memory stick with ace plus

hi hope everyone's having a good day
i'd like to be able to use a usb memory stick with my ace plus for extra memory (filled up sd card). i've done a search in the search here and on the web and can't really find any solid info on it. Something about usb on the go (usb otg) comes up, but that's as far as i can get. Can i use a usb memory stick with my ace plus? How is it done, will i need a special cable, or can i use standard big usb to small usb cable (excuse the expert technical terms lol), will i need aditional software. I plan to buy as big as poss usb memory stick.
I kinda understand that it maybe to do also to do with the rom/kernel being used and wether it supports it (not sure though). so i'm using the excellent Inspiration rom v9 and mb-14's excellent Overclockable kernel.
Also, when the dust settles around the cm10.1/aokp jelly bean build in the development section (and when there is an overclockable kernel) , and should i choose to upgrade from ginger bread, will that support a usb memory stick being plugged in for extra storage?

[Q] OTG + Charging + Audio

Hi Everyone!
So i've being looking for a diagram or something that might be as helpful for Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 P3100.
Would be great to use one cable for charging otg and sound
i've seen some threads for 10.1 and p1000 :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155065
i've seen some for tab 7 with similar info
pinout info is generally the same for all the tabs.
so the question is : who can help me, and i guess a lot of other people with this ))
Make this world a better place by helping me to integrate this tablet into my car
Cheers
G.
How did you get on with this. I have a similar project
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk
well, i've done it without the audio(have not tried it yet) i'm trying to find a breakout board somewhere in europe and try it again.
I've used the thread called make your own cables. just search for it here o the forum.
one thing i want to add is that for whatever reason the flash drive would not remount with the setup that i had if you reboot the tablet while flash drive is plugged in and on some other occasions as well.
once ill find the board ill try it again and with audio (u need the board cos the standard sync cable does not have all the pins in it (( )
atm i simply charge normally and use SD card extender cable and SD card for storage

DIY:Adding full size USB

Hello there,
So i have a bit of a strange question but lets see opinions.
So I have decided to try and add a full sized usb port to a tablet (dont worry its a broken one anyhow) Now there is enough space inside to just fit the usb and soldering is not an issue for me.
The question is do you think that just connecting it to the main micro usb (which is also for changing) in an OTG fashion is the best way or is there a way of connecting it directly to the controller somehow.
p.s. its an intel tablet

Usb otg isn't working

Hi XDA DEVELOPERS,
I have a problem with my Android Phone's USB OTG, lately it can read USB's around 16GB and Below, and now there's seems a problem in reading the USB (I've Tried almost the possible things that might help, inserting USB's through USB OTG in my phone with 2,4,8,16GB of Capacity, to card reader with inserted microSD, Executing "init.usb.rc" using Root Explorer but nothing seems to work). In some case the phone still supplies power to the USB as the USB's L.E.D Blinks.
Do you think there's a System Bug/Problem in my phone? Or the power might have gone low to supply the USB? Or Else, any virus that modified my system ,???
Could anyone Help me with my problem?please? This is really frustrating as I do really need USB in our School (my Memory Card is always on Capacity Shortage so I always deal with my USB)
And last, if anyone also do have an idea about android tweaking for my phone to be able to read a 32GB USB, please reach me THANKS!!!
