[Q] Camera - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Camera just doesn't start..
its unpredictable it can start it may not load up after selection camera app..
it just starts for a second the entire view finder is black with all the options inactive and just closes with no message...
I am Viper Xl 4.2 and Elemental kernel 8.2
surprisingly i had the same problem on the previous rom i was using which was 'Cleanstrip' based on T mobile German release.
can anyone help?
besides GIF mode doesn't work...

Did you try with the stock kernel for ViperXL?
Are you s-on or s-off? I don't recall. Sounds like it might be a kernel mismatch to me.

GIF mode? Do you mean the Zoe presentations? Are you installing the camera mod?

Yes, always make sure you do the default wipes in TWRP (factory reset, Dalvik and cache) when flashing a new ROM. Random bugs are often caused by failure to wipe.

The camera contained in the Zoe mod has a gif mode, to make animated gif images. I'm guessing yes.

ya the ZOE feature on Sense 5 4.2.2 havent flashed any mod it jus came with every ROM i had on my device!
ya i did wipes prior to installation...
i also tried to go for fixing permissions as well but its still unpredictable..
everything works when the camera starts the zoom and the video also the simultaneous capture but not the GIF mode just FCs the entire camera app.
besides the camera also doesn't start from other means like if i want to share an image from whatsapp.

i did that! :good:

It seems that the Zoe GIF feature is broken on ViperXL 4.2. You can flash the Zoe camera mod to get the GIF feature back. But it will break camera zoom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2436347
Read or search the ViperXL thread for details.
Not sure if the issue with the camera app not starting is related, or not.

Not particularly surprising to me. Although these are 3rd party camera apps, they must still use the phone's drivers and other low-level resources.
You might try to do a full wipe (factory reset, Dalvik and cache) and flash a different ROM (maybe stock rooted), just to make sure its not the ROM or kernel, and to be sure you did the required wipes. Or maybe even RUU back to stock, which would be a bit of a pain, since you would have to then install TWRP again, and flash the 2.15 firmware to get back to where you are now.
But if you RUU, and the problem still persists, it may indicate a hardware problem. But it seems too coincidental to me, since you have been messing with ROMs and kernels, and the if the camare worked before, its more likely just a software issue.

I haven't been following that thread, as I don't use the mod. Its best you read through the thread yourself, and determine what is the most recent and relevant information. Or ask in the thread yourself, if its still not clear. It seemed to me when I was reading it (its been a couple weeks), that zoom was fixed for a short while, but may have led to some other issues. Then it went back to zoom being broken. But I haven't been keeping up lately, and it may have been fixed again.

If I may. I have been flashing custom ROMs since July of last year on this device (AOSP, Sense, and everything in between) and as of late, I am having a camera FC also. I am S-OFF, Hboot 2.14, TWRP 2.6.0, and running CM 10.2 latest nightly. I have tried RUUing, MagioRom 4.0.2, Rage (because its 4.1.2), CM 10.1, and none of them produce a working camera. What's weird is that right after flashing a new rom, the camera works. It even takes pictures. But the second or third attempt to use the camera produces an FC. Sometimes is says, "Cannot connect to the camera." Other times it's, "Gallery has stopped working." Everything else is running great on the phone. I did a logcat, but i cannot find it.
Great!

In my case it is a bit different!
well the camera doesn't force close (by which i mean there is no message displayed)
it starts-> the menu loads up instantaneously -> the thumbnails may or may not load (at the bottom most corner) -> and it abruptly closes -> after 3 4 times it does start eventually......
the phone is very stable after the abrupt stopping of camera..
and my gallery is fine....
i dint get a message on focal as well it just doesn't load up there..

[Q] Stock Camera not working in Sensation

Hi, i've bought an unlocked T-Mobile HTC Sensation and was running Android Revolution HD for Sensation gingerbread. my Camera app has suddenly stopped working... I've tried updating to latest ICS from Android Revolution HD 6.5.1 but still the camera is not working. when i start the app... the screen flashes and then again I'm back on the home screen. Strangely, when using application "mirror" it starts the front camera... and that is working fine... and i've tried multiple apps from market for back camera...but its not working using any of them... can you please help me out with this... any help in this would be deeply appreciated.
Thanks
Dipil Jain

Have updated to the latest firmware etc and wiped everything several times and tried installing it with different options but still cannot get the camera to work

this is weird did you tried other camera apps?
if its still not working then
do a superwipe and flash rom again and see(this method erases data ..so backp them before hand)
Similar problem, if i click the camera or camcorder icon the screen goes black, it either stays black until i take the battery out or it crashes and restarts?! Weird, cant use it to take pics in any other apps either. front camera is fine on skype though...!? everything is uptodate nothing was updated recently?! Anyone
(Im on stock)
This happened to me once when i was stock. I would do a battery pull and it would work again..but finally did a hard restore through recovery and cleared all the caches and that worked. Now im rooted and on energy GB rom and I have not had that problem anymore.
Just flashing a new rom did not help. I actually had to do a factory reset on the ROM as well..in the Setting/storage.
Never ran into this problem

Have u tried maybe a different rom??

I would suggest clearing the app data.
Have you news. I have the same problem and have yet to find any solution. If you have one I'd be grateful for it.
LuckyD
Go to Task Manager>>Advanced>>All apps>>Find the Camera app and select it>>Force Close if it is running & then Clear Data.
This should fix it.
If not, get this app. Go to primary and secondary camera, & check if they both work.
If it works, then there's a problem with the stock app.
If not, there is either a problem with the camera or with camera access.
I would suggest reflashing your current ROM, since this seems to solve issues, many a time.
Try installing another pyramid
have you tried to download a special or customized pyramid from the sensation android development department and then tried out your 4g??? a customized pyramid + tweaks will allow the htc camera to work because the htc family usually creates htc's like as if they were real babies.. the htc's adapt to you and then little by little all the problems like "over-heating reset, camera faults and random keyboard touches" are common problems with the htc... installing a different pyramid or returning it for another new one will usually fix this..

As far as I can tell, your camera is not being detected.
I would recommend that you do this:
1>NANDROID backup
2>SuperWipe (it can be found in this post at the very end)
3>Re-install ROM (Remember to check MD5 before installing)
4>Check if the Camera works.
If not, then Super Wipe and restore your previous backup.
If it works, get back to me. (PM me if I don't reply)
If you have further questions, feel free to ask.

[SOLVED]Camera has a weird bug

Hello,
2 weeks ago my phone started to have a strange behaviour:
Every third photo i took was okay, like everytime, but the rest was broken. Basically they wont show any kind of picture information as well as on the device and on the computer.
Im on the latest ViperS ROM and Bricked kernel 1.4, the rest of the device works perfectly.
Any ideas?
Latest vipers? As in the jellybean version? 3.0.0 has no working camera yet. Devs are working on it. If you're on 1.6.3, try a different kernel, or try fix permissions. If these don't help, you might have developed a hardware fault. That won't be possible to fix.
Need to ask. Do you mean it takes a picture but the picture doesn't show up when you go back to look at it or the tags from the image are missing?

you may not be able to use cameras from other builds or devices.
you may have to wipe the whole system/data/cache/dalvik in cwm and flash the rom over again
if that doesn't work, you have to flash back to stock and start over.

Well when I was running the Gingerbread stock rom, I could go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications and see that the Camera App and Camera Firmware App both said 0 Bytes, so I guess that means they were missing entirely. I am running the Slimbean Jelly Bean 4.2.2 rom right now and neither of those apps show up.

Camera ONLY works in safe mode

Hello guys
Please excuse me if this has already been posted before!
I've heard things about the camera not working in 4.4.4. Mine doesn't as well - only in safe mode. No matter what. Then I tried to pinpoint a 3rd party app that could've blocked the camera, both the back and the front (mostly front), but the issue keeps getting on top. I just rooted my N5 and installed PA, and the issue is still on! I haven't even installed the G-apps yet.
Any ideas?
Thank you so much!
install the gapps, but do not install/restore your other apps yet! try to see if the cam works. if so, install your apps after. to me it sounds as an app is causing you issues. btw, have you tried clearing the camera apps data? and by not working, what error do you get?

what does the stock kernel have to do with the camera not working??? the right answer is absolutely nothing.
Because the kernel connects the hardware to the software and the kernel has all the drivers in it

well, the probability that its something else besides the kernel is off the charts. most likely it is an app, or corrupt data. actually, in my 6 years with android, not once have i seen a camera issue caused by the stock kernel. now a custom kernel can have issues with the cam, but thats usually because something was forgotten to be added. oh, and a rom can cause camera issue, which is the #2 spot of where his issue might come from. many times i have seen custom roms forget to add in all the needed camera libs.

the libs for the camera, which comes from the rom, which people forget to add to their roms often enough.

Thanks for your reply! I'll try this right away. Is there any way I can install the Google Play market without having the Gapps? Otherwise I'll try to go for the minor Gapps ibcluding the most important ones - if of course it happens to work without it.
Clearing data causes it to say that it cannot connect to the camera!
Bad news. Clean PA Install - no Gapps and the problem is still on my agenda!
Any other suggestions? It cannot be hardware; why else would it work in safe mode?

Multiple problems after flashing 5.0 stock images

Hi,
I just flashed my device with the new Android 5.0 stock image, only now i have multiple problems:
* mic doesn't work (i noticed since ok google detection setup doesn't work)
* no sound
* a lot of UI hangs/ crashes
* YouTube video's wont play
* calling doesn't work.
i already reflashed it multiple times, problems still persist.
i wiped my device before i flashed so i didn't dirty flash, and flashed all the .img separately.
Can anyone help me with this?
Update:
flashing this one with TWRP worked for me:

Multiple Android 5.0 problems on Nexus 5
I can't really help you much, but I wanted to express the fact that I also flashed the stock firmware image of Lollipop into my Nexus 5 and I am
experiencing a plethora of issues: Besides the ones you mention, please add CAMERA not working, show distorted image on screen, both back and frontal camera.
Shame on Google to release such a buggy and crappy firmware.... Truly expected it to be pristing.
On the other hand, have had on my other Nexus, a 4, the port of Android L and AOSP Android 5.0, pretty much flawless.... just barely minor issues...

There are issues:
- Battery dies in 4 hours. Battery stats aren't even refreshing to find out what is causing it. Phone is hot and eats like 1% in few mins. It actually discharges faster than I can charge! GSam battery monitor says it's Exchange Services that is eating all battery.
- Smart Lock loses connection to Windows 8.1 laptop
- Unable to unlock device, screen shuts down after you type in unlock PIN, after few retries it works

It's not crappy as I have no issues at all but that's not to say there are a few bugs here and there but mostly graphical bugs really. Functionality is flawless on my N5
Not even encountered a single crash, 8 hrs+ since installed. I wiped everything and didn't restore any apps. All freshly installed.
No solution I'm afraid, but just to let you know that I'm having exactly the same problem with the Microphone... so no phone calls, voice search etc. Just doesn't pick up any sound.
i reflashed the developer preview for now, that one does work without any problems (only the battery drain bug)
What method did you use to flash. Through a tool kit or by fastboot
i used fastboot, also tried it with a toolkit, both same result.

Oh hell... that's... so embarrasing.
I have a Pressy.... I forgot I had it plugged in.... for some reason Lollipop saw it as a heaphone and mic.
I'm gonna just go sit in the corner now.
Guys, here's a thought - as it's a new base perhaps doing a FULL RESET is the way forward
I always do a complete reset and flash from fastboot (not bloody toolkits) and never have any issues so I'm going to assume everyone with issues isn't wiping the phone first (I know the OP says they did a full wipe but in general, most don't)
Thinking this was a problem with the factory images... Didn't make any sense at all.

Guys, here's a thought - as it's a new base perhaps doing a FULL RESET is the way forward
I always do a complete reset and flash from fastboot (not bloody toolkits) and never have any issues so I'm going to assume everyone with issues isn't wiping the phone first (I know the OP says they did a full wipe but in general, most don't)

i did a full reset multiple times, so that isn't the problem for me.

No, after you've flashed all the images, go into the stock recovery and do a factory reset and then allow it to boot up and set the phone up as normal!

Failing that then you could flash this?:

This worked for OP but I just tried to flash this image and it did not work. Still no MIC SOUND. THis all happened After I flashed Xtrasmooth ROM from the xda dev section. Man this is depressing, is there anything else I can try ? I did a full wipe prior to installing it. Phone does not pick any sound. Only pick sounds during call in speakerphone mode....
I notice a lot of people having issues with the stock image. Flash the custom Roms...they seem to be working MUCH better..

Hi,
I just flashed my device with the new Android 5.0 stock image, only now i have multiple problems:
* mic doesn't work (i noticed since ok google detection setup doesn't work)
* no sound
* a lot of UI hangs/ crashes
* YouTube video's wont play
* calling doesn't work.
i already reflashed it multiple times, problems still persist.
i wiped my device before i flashed so i didn't dirty flash, and flashed all the .img separately.
Can anyone help me with this?
Update:
flashing this one with TWRP worked for me:

Did you erase and flash userdata.img also during the flash, because i have none of your problems mate after a clean flash-all install.
Yes, i did erase and flash userdata.img, multiple times.
