Clockworkmod recovery question - General Questions and Answers

Hi so in hopes to clear up my phone some space I decided to format/SD card in recovery. For some reason I thought my pictures were sync'd with my Google account since every time I flash a new ROM they are untouched. Anyway, they were all deleted after the wipe. Before I did the wipe though I made a backup to an ext SD. My question is if anyone knows if reverting back to the backup will restore all my pictures. Seems unlikely but still hoping. Just wanted to ask before trying in case someone has done this before. Thanks in advance

Don't know if it will help but theres a post that has nandroid unrooted backups of froyo and the Gv update... you could download them with your phone then do the usual wipe data process and restore one of the backups.... hope this helps..

CWM Question

Hey guys, so I have a question for all you that flash lots of roms.
I am currently using StockRom, but I would like to try Sky-ICS.
However, I have my current rom setup exactly how I like it, so if I do a backup through CWM or the backup manager app, and I don't like Sky-ICS, will restoring my rom bring everything back exactly how it was? Or will I have to re do my settings, and re download my apps?
It will be just like it was when you left if. That's one of the beauties of the backup. That and it can save your butt.

Nandroid Backups

Where are they stored? Does it make new file every time I do it or does it overwrite the last one?
I'm asking because my SD card is constantly full now. It's an 8Gb card. I do a Nandroid Backup once a week.
Any help/feedback is appreciated.
Edit: I found them. Is there anyway I can make it so it just gets overwritten?

If you're using twrp you can just delete them from there. Can't remember if cwm has that option.

Nope. Just delete the old one with a root explorer.

Will installing a new ROM erase my photos, videos, and music?

Will rooting, installing CWM, or rooting mess with my photos, videos, or music? If so, what is a good, free way to back these up?

Not if you do it right.
Even installing a Custom ROM?

Even that. I have flashed over 100 times on a few phones and have never lost anything. Still back it up though.
And by back it up, are you referring to Tibu? Or just back it up in general like Dropbox.

I do both. TB only backs up your apps and the data associated with those apps. Anything else like photo's or music I just copy over to my computer. Dropbox is another option. Just make sure you understand what you're doing first and you'll be fine.
Ok. So in that case, what does installing a custom rom and etc erase? Because I was under the impression that a factory reset was needed in order to install a custom rom.

OK. I'll give you the quick version. You will not loose anything on your sdcard. You will loose your apps that are stored in system as well as contacts and wifi settings and such. That's why you also back up to google for contacts. Use TB or something like it to back up user apps and data. Wipe, Flash, restore. You asked if it would wipe photos, music, and videos. It will not if you do it right. Start reading. Then read some more. When that's done you'll have a better idea of how it all works. Then once you understand the process for yourself flash away.

A factory reset doesn't wipe user data such as photos, videos, music, etc.

Okay. I'm starting to get it. I do have to read more. When your in ClockWorkMod for example, and you needed to wipe to flash the rom, does it also mandate a user data reset? Also, are there stickies on all of this so I can bug you guys less? Haha.

Yup to all of those questions? And doesn't the user data reset delete the media on the phone?

"Yup" to there being a million stickies all over xda on all of this.

Internal sdcard

OK I got a question I searched a bit and couldn't find the exact answer ... I've been wanting to wipe my internal sdcard since I've been flashing roms but afraid I'll have missed something and loss it forever ... I've got plenty of backups so I can always revert back but want to get rid of all the garbage that gets lost in the mix between flashing ROMs ... Besides my photos is there really anything important that's stored only on my internal sdcard??? Thanks for the help and hope this hasn't wasted forum space

Do you put your downloads and music on the internal or external sd? It depends if you put music etc on there as well. Also idk if 4.2 sdcard0 issue will matter to you or not.
I got my stuff saved on my external just was curious is there was anything system wise or anything specific that I'd need to backup or save

I think your good. Ive done it plenty of times with no issues, also you said you have plenty of back ups so I don't see any problems arising.
