I slept on my phone and now thw kickstand won't sit flush. Should I call VZW to try to get it replaced?

i agree, only way you get a new one is if you pay asurion the monthly warranty and call them to get it replaced(100 deductable) or buy a new one from verizon. They wont give you a free one.
Physical damage is not covered by the warranty.
Send pix of bent kickstand
Might be easy fix if ya carefull using tools

If you call them and try to get it replaced for any reason besides the bent kickstand just to get it replaced its fraud. Its why our deductibles have been going up when it comes to asurion etc.., but you gotta do what you gotta do- just some of us dont condone that
try to fix it yourself, or even take the kickstand out. it annoys the **** out of me and it's completely useless.
Not *completely*
it does keep pocket lint out of the speaker
It would be less useless if they moved the usb port and you could watch videos in the widescreen way and actually charge the phone. But obviously they didnt and the kickstand was an afterthought which is why it peels, bends and is in the way

Haha good one. Mine peeled off about a quarter of the way, so I took an emery board and went the whole rest of the way, then used metal polish. Now it's stainless.

I would have a little more respect for that strategy if they actually had the docks availabe for sale at launch or even 3 months after launch, especially if the so-called multimedia dock had HDMI-out or any other multimesia functions for that matter.
Thanks, Robertus
wow, got a lot of funny responses. Ya'll are right though. Pretty stupid on my part. I got drunk and fell asleep on it.
I never said anything negative about the build though, so I'm not sure where some people came up with that.
I bent it back a little and it's ok with the cover on it. So I think I'll leave it at that. Thanks everyone for their interesting responses.

The official htc dock Just came out, and isn't available through verizon yet. I wanted it day one. It does charge with or without the extended battery, though. It also charges one extra regular or extended battery, too. I guess we are lucky htc put one out at all. The Inc 1 never got an official dock. Ha

I have the seidio dock. It's angled poorly for screen viewing (in my opinion), and extremely difficult (in relative terms to other docks I have for other phones) to get the phone in and out of it. There's a lot of resistance both in and out with the usb plug.
As for kickstands...why all the hate? Personally I think it's a fantastic accessory to the phone and puts it at the perfect angle for watching videos or reading off the phone while it's on my desk. Yeah, usb placement sucks and maybe you can't watch five hours of video on it with the kickstand, but other phones you can't watch anything at all without holding the phone in your hand or getting a dock.
My corners are stripped from drops and i want to resell it in january when i get my note 2. So i bought a new battery and battery cover now i just need to find a way to repaint the chrome bezel, any ideas?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
The problem is any paint is probably going to scratch off fairly quickly as its only going to be painted on the surface. They are certain spray paints that bond better with the actual plastic, but the name escapes me right now. Also, to get the bezel off, I think you have to strip it right down and remove the screen as well which needs a heat gun. I've have my system nearly apart except for the lcd/screen heatgun thing, and the bezel never came off.
Im just looking to paint over im very new when it comes to all this im just looking for a simple way to do it.

Well I'm trying to tell you there isn't a simple way, if you just paint over it with a brush and some paint, it will wear off in a week as it won't bind to the plastic and will just be painted on top of the chrome finish.
You need to take it apart like here, http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung+Galaxy+S+4G+Teardown/4977/1 to get the silver bezel off, sand it down to remove the chrome finish and create a rough surface for the paint to bond to, use a plastic bonding paint and paint it and put it back together.
I have customized PS2, PS3, Xbox, XBox 360, PSP, DS, PC's, so I'm trying to tell you the work involved to do a job that will last longer than a week. Otherwise, put a case on it so you don't see the chrome. lol. Seems the easiest way if you're not comfortable taking the system apart and heatgunning the screen off, sanding, buying the proper paint, etc.
I also think repainting the bezel is a way to mislead people into thinking its never been dropped. Which is not the right thing to do. Just tell people the truth and you will probably get a decent price. This phone wont sell for a bunch anyway. Plus if you half ass it like getochkn is telling you NOT to do the buyer can return it or do a chargeback on paypal. Especially if you dont inform them you painted the bezel.
Im not trying to mislead anyone i just want it to look nice.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
I would just not worry about it. The process is either going to look crappy or more work than it appears you are looking to do.
If you are good at taping things off you could hand sand the bezel and tape the screen off and spray it but you still run the risk of messing up.

Well Eollie is right, but if you are hellbent on "pretty-fying" your phone and obviously you don't have the mechanical skill to disassemle it, the skill to replate it, let alone repainting it(yes, painting done right is actually harder then electroplating) then this would be your best option http://www.bare-metal.com/bare-metal-foil.html it's called chrome leafing and is by far the best option for you, other then just giving it a thorough cleaning and being done with it.
I saw a guy in the Vibrant forum complete changed the front cover to white. The kit sells on Amazon for about $70. It looks very nice 2.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762191

I just found out that the silver bezel is replaceable. It costs about $9 for a "used like new" one. Actually, most of the parts on our phone are replaceable. Let me know if u need a link to that website I saw.
Man, I got to stop reading this forum and start working on my car website.

the issue is that the chrome isn't a paint, it's a finish that's baked on, so any sort of "touch-up" paint is going to look like crap.
You can try to polish it, but be careful since the spinny-type of polishing bits generate heat, which can damage the plastic bits on the phone if you're not careful.
Your best bet is to get a replacement part like gizmo mentioned.
So as we all know, the nexus 4 is really fragile. 1 small drop cracks the front and back glass in many cases. The FlyGrip acts like a "handle" for your phone, and it functions as a kickstand.

We shouldn't have to 'stick' anything on the back of any product to get the full use out of it. Bumpers are removable w/o leaving any trace, decent screen protectors are removable and leave no trace, car parts are removable and leave no trace, etc.
Garbage product idea.
There's so many jobless product designers w/ great ideas for products and these clowns hired some idiots to make such a useless product/concept come to fruition.

As a standalone, it is a little lame, but integrated into a case, where the clip would fold in flat, then it's not a bad idea. Much better than regular kickstands. They should sell the patent to a case manufacturer.

HIDEOUS!! I wouldnt attach this to my red painted backup phone for free.
Wanna see who will really stick one of this crap on their phones.
If this were a $7 item I would probably get it.
ive seen cases with kickstands that are more bulky and ugly while being less useful. it comes with a case so i think it's for putting on the back of a case. i wouldnt get one for the nexus 4 but it might not be a bad product for larger phones like the note or some 6" phones that we will see soon.
Whats with all the hate...if you dont like it dont buy it. There's no need to get upset.
it's actually a very good product. If any of you follow qbking77 on youtube he uses them quite often. It's not really meant to prevent you from dropping your phone like the OP is suggesting. The purpose of the flygrip is to allow you to use the phone one handed with much more ease especially larger devices and you can also keep a hold of it easier when you're laying in bed without dropping your phone on your face. For that purpose it actually works quite well I just wouldn't attach it directly to the device itself.

I think people are allowed to post their opinion about a product on here, whether its positive or negative. Just the way the world works
I received some feedback asking me to post instructions on how I made my game clip to hold my phone (Galaxy S III) to a PS3 controller (homemade or DIY Gameclip). I have posted a pdf of the instructions on mediafire and attached a 7zip file of it to this post.
http://www.mediafire.com/view/?gg4lyu663854moa
I first of all would like to say I got the idea from the thread of the GameKlip and thought it was a brilliant idea and a nice product, but I didn't want to spend $30 U.S. (incl. shipping) and wait a couple weeks to get one....and I couldn't keep my case on the phone while I used it, so I made my own. Kudos to the GameKlip if you are interested in getting one.
Here's the latest Gameklip for the Galaxy s3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2027611
I do love using my GameKlip... when not using my extended battery (which I have on most of the time). This will solve all! I wonder if some sort of insulation for pipe/etc could be used to further cushion the phone... hmmm.... Maybe one of the rubber coated hangers.
Either way, how did I not think of this?! I tried sheet metal and other way more complex options, lol.
I'll post my rendition of this! Hope to try it out tonight!
THANKS AGAIN!

Thank you. I have thought about something like plasti-dip ... dip the whole thing after making it...probably would just have to take into account the thickness if the coating while making it.
http://www.homedepot.com/buy/performix-brand-plasti-dip-11603-6.html#.UP1_eGdmO2U
I look forward to seeing your idea of it, please post pics. I have thought of different ways to "design" it, including having only one arm holder at the top. Making the bottom "hooks" up from the button 1 & 2 "towers" to move the phone up, etc... in the mean-time it works well for me...I hope yours does for you.
I got some Plasti-Dip at home I use on my car and thought of that as well. I got a few different ideas I'm gonna try to play with. ... Just a matter of finding time as wife and I are preparing for our firstborn. I'll definitely post pics of whatever I come up with!
possible to do a similar style but for a mini bluetooth keyboard? im having a hard time figuring out that one....
I am sure something is. I don't have a mini blue tooth keyboard. Which one do you have?
Have you seen the universal gameclip? It just sticks to a cheap case? How about a flat piece of metal stuck to case with the phone and velcro'd to the bottom of the keyboard? Could even bend it slightly if you don't want it flat?

That looks pretty darn snazzy. I know I would be employing the "Close enough" meme if I tried to do that.
I have been thinking of something like this but I must design a little differently as I will use it on an xbox360 controller and a 7 inch tablet.

Thanks. I will make pictures for sure. Still in the planning phase for the moment but will work on it next week.
Tried three times and failed. Baby en route, so it's on the back burner.
BTW: the rubber coated hangers SUCK to bend, rubber tears easily! Don't waste one!
I made one with 1 hook on top to hold the phone. The bend makes it act like a spring. It's easier to get the phone out of this one

I made mine using your instructions; I strongly encourage you to get some shrink wrap tubing. It looks much better than whatever old varnish the coat hanger may have left, and there won't be glue smudging as with electrical tape.
I happened to have a slightly larger tube which I used on the hook portion. To make the tips, after having deburred with a file, I simply left some extra length, bent that backwards and finished it off with an additional short tube added in a second pass.
It is preferable to make your bends first, then work the tubing on, as pliers will most likely damage the tubing cosmetically at least.
A small black zip tie secures the mini-USB cable. Not shown in the photos, I found an old camera lanyard and added over the metal frame for some additional security.
Here are the results:
Cheers,
Darkshado
Awesome! Thanks for posting pics! I use the sixaxis app so I don't need the wires but yours looks great with them. I like the tubing too. Your are of course absolutely right about no gummy from the tape with the tubing. I bet it makes it stickier too so the phone won't slide around.

Looks awesome, I'm definitely going to attempt one myself. What diameter heat shrink did you use? (approx)
Thanks! IIRC, the smaller one was 4-5 mm, the larger 10 mm. It can always be cut and removed if the size you're using isn't working, and tubing like this is cheap.
LONG overdue but needless to say I've failed at 3 attempts. Trying to get them perfect and they snap on me. Might just try to mod one of my 1st Gen Game Klips I got laying around since I now have the 7000mAh battery to give me PLENTY of gaming!
Guys its a lot easier to buy a spider podium and wrap it and shape it to fit your phone. Worked perfectly. Only downside is that its unremovable. Just added a camera lanyard

Okay someone probably already thought of this, but here is my story...
Woke up this morning and decided to watch some tennis (Wimbledon) but my bedroom TV is broken... There is my GS4 and I know they are covering the matches on YouTube, so problem solved, right? After about 5 minutes of holding the phone while laying down it soon got old. At first propped it up against the alarm clock but the sound was bad and got to thinking what else can I use? Here is my solution...
Items:
One bi-fold wallet able to stand while partially open.
One rubber/silicon/thin-leather bracelet (optional depending on case or lack there of)
Instructions:
Simply open the wallet to form a "V"
Use the bracelet as base to prevent slippage
Benefits:
Of course, totally portable
The "stand" allows many angles to set your phone it at... Your mileage will of course depend on the type of case (if any) and how slippery your wallet/surface/bracelet is
The side benefit to this is, because the wallet provides a direction bounce surface, the volume actually improved and seems to be coming from right behind the screen.
There you have it. Enjoy.
That's a lot of tennis balls.

My cost, well almost nothing. The wallet was a gift 10+ years ago and the bracelet was something I picked up a couple of years ago for a couple of bucks. Plus my "stand" works to make the sound "better". Also again totally portable and something I have with me at all time (IE nothing extra to carry).

Thanks, that is a cool looking stand. I've had a couple of stands, all for my tablets which I've used on occasion with my phone. :silly:
The one I presented here is just for a quick, easy, and most of all, portable "stand" to use.
I have run into one problem with my stand which can occur on really slippery surfaces and that's the thing just sliding around. My solution was to actually use my watch and its band (which is rubber) to counter act the problem. Again something I have with me always and technically is no extra cost.
