[APP][2.1+] Voice Out, a simple Text-to-speech client - Android Apps and Games

Hi there!
I developed a small utility app named "Voice Out" which I would like to share with the XDA users.
It's basically a TTS Client that use the Android built-in TTS Engine and I hope that someone will find it useful!
It's available at Google Play: Voice Out
or you can download the APK here: View attachment 2286658 -> Sorry for the broken link, will attach the APK later.
Voice Out is a simple Text-to-speech client that makes your device speak texts with the Android Text-to-speech Engine (TTS). Your phone must be capable to run Small Apps and have a Text-to-Speech engine to make it work.
To check if you have a Text-to-speech Engine installed, go to Settings -> Accessibility -> System -> Text-to-speech output or use the menu inside the app.
Tested on Sony Xperia Z Ultra, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Samsung Galaxy S3 with the following TTS Engines:
- Google Text-to-speech Engine
- Pico TTS
- Ekho TTS (余音), for Cantonese and Mandarin support
- Samsung TTS
This application access your device clipboard to get the copied text so you don't need to paste it manually.
Requires at least Android 2.1 and up (auto paste function only works with Android 3.0 and up)
This application is Ad-supported and I hope the ad location doesn't affect much the usability.
I made also a Sony Small App version:

which was featured on today's post http://www.xda-developers.com/android/voice-out-small-app-for-xperia-device-text-messages/

Best applications for Android +wishlist

[edit] This thread seems to be forgotten or unneeded. Last update. [/edit]
Hi. I've found no thread about this topic usable to me, so I want to create one.
I have already a bunch of apps for certain purposes. I would like to ask you all which apps could be better for same purposes or which apps could do different things in the same topic those apps do. If this thread will grow, i will maintain the first post to "rate" some propositions with short descriptions of cons and pros.
Of course, I prefer free apps. Only circumstance where paid can exist is lack of free ones. Where free exists, there is no place for paid ones until it offers great kick to functionality.
1. GPS navigation/toold/positioning
- [PAID] Sygic. Not free, but usable trial, as far seems to be best offline. I see no other choices free, and paid ones I've seen are just worse than Sygic.
- LifeLogger
- GPS Logger
- Open GPS Tracker
2. Drive loggers/recorders/blackboxes etc.
- Autoboy Blackbox, best so far
- CarEyes, good but crashes time to time (not often), mostly when phone rings - only one that is completely free
- DailyRoads Voyager, usable
3. Photography
- Original HTC camera app. I see no point to install anything more maybe not mentioning panorama - I would like to install just one app which does it, but saw nothing good and stable yet.
- 3D Gallery (Gallery++)
4. Video
- Same as above, HTC. Any propositions? (here and above I mean usable features, no fancy needs if you ask me like stupid filters or so)
5. Music/Sound
- Same as above, HTC.
- Need good quality recorder (both mp3 AND wav) with silence detections capable of recording whole day for example (DHD connected to power source)
- Need voice bookreader, not audiobook reader but reader of PDFs for example using voice synthesis like Ivona (must be unintrusive - original google shipped voice synthesis is a crap and lacks other languages)
6. File managers
- Total Commander
- Midnight Commander
- Astro File Manager
7. Backup
- Titanium Backup
- MyBackup Root
Both has bugs. Both cannot solve rom differences while exporting/importing phonebook and call hostory (titanium does not correctly do anything at all between Sense 3.0 and Sense 3.5, and mybackup does not do the call history).
8. Remote
- Avast as a firewall
- DroidWall waiting "in case"
- SSHDroid (the only choice?)
- Network Discovery
- Overlook Fing (actual name: Fing - Network Tools by Overlook), Overlook Whiz
- [BETA but working stable] Droid VNC Server
9. App management
- Android Market REPLACEMENT - AM is sh*tty app. Crashes, unreadable (no option to change font size or so, I want to save my eyes), has only basic filters on searches, etc. Someone should use the api and write stable and flexible one which can download apps too from market (local management isn't enough! - plenty of apps here)
10. Task managers
- System tuner
- Elixir
11. Battery guards/monitors
- System tuner
12. Call
- Call Recorder (only available for DHD recording from line directly)
- Sanity
And RunKeeper for fitness....
I've not seen it, but added to the list (good score on market, and seems to be quite usable from the descriptions)
Why not also posting games? Great topic, very useful.
I don't mind about games, but I'll not look at them, I can just re-post them at first post basing on market popularity rating. I have no time and eyes for such games . Feel fre to talk about any good software, games too

IVONA text to speech engine

Hi just want to share app, its text to speech engine for android which also run on our Sensation ICS. It way better than the default Google speech engine. Currently it is in Beta stage and its free . Tested run on EZpdf to read pdf file also in Moon Reader. It should also work on navigation and other compatible virtual assistant.

PS: Voice engine requires 200MB++ on your SD

[Q] Change TTS voice programmatically - no way?

Let's say I have two or more voices installed for the same language - country combination, like "en-US". One could be female, the other male voice for example. How could I switch these programmatically? There seems to be no way...
I can easily switch any time between "en-UK" and "en-US" voices by using something like:
myTTS.setLanguage(locale);
but for switching voices within the same locale, nothing. Looks to me like a flaw in Android TextToSpeech class design... Or is there some way of which I'm not aware? FYI, the high quality IVONA voices (still in free beta in Google Play Store) have "Select preferred voice" setting for each language locale. The other TTS engines I have installed (Pico, Google and SVOX Classic) do not offer this option yet, so maybe the only way to do this would be to access the private settings of IVONA engine?

[Q] Accessibility and text voice reader

Hello at alls, at first sorry if my english isn't good
Thanks for all great work of the comunity!
I've 2 Question about Accessibility functions in Android
1) there's a tweak that allows to select a text and made readable by the voice of system? like in iOs or mac os X, i know that there are apps that allows it, but you have to copy the text and then "paste it" in TTS app.
2) Is possible have zoom accessibility gesture in previous Android 4.2 version?
Thanks at alls give me answers, sorry again for my English.
I Love Android that permit a great smartphone use also to a Visually impaired like me

Any way to change the android voice?

I have tasker run functions, and it sometimes talks to me, now coming from a 2.3 device to a 4.3 I see the voice is different, and it's not terribly nice, are there any alternative voices to try? I know in the past other makers (Samsung) have had different voices)
I'll answer my own question in case anyone else finds this useful.
If you're unhappy with text to speech on your android device, there's several options to try both paid & unpaid.
For me (after extensive research & testing) I found this solution works best.
Svox Classic Text To Speech Engine
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.svox.classic
and the voice I used for maximum clarity & easy on the ears was this:
SVOX US English Grace Voice
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.svox.classic.langpack.eng_usa_fem
Naturally your mileage will vary, but this one worked for me. It doesn't seem to work in google now speech, but in maps (navigation), tasker & FBReadet TTs it does.
