Galaxy Note 3 is disappointing - Galaxy Note 3 General

I "upgraded" from a Nexus 4 to the Note 3 because on paper it sounded fantastic (especially the full HD screen). However, the performance of the device is extremely disappointing. There's a real disconnect between swiping the screen and the software responding. A perfect example of this is in the browser(s) scrolling department. I find that it's worse on Chrome that it is with the other browser. Sometimes in mobile rendered pages scrolling if fine. But most of the time, it's very jittery (it's not fluid and pixel perfect smooth). Very bad for the end-user experience.
Another example: the official Engadget app. Scrolling is extremely choppy on the Note 3. I have found that going into the Developer Mode options and turning on "Force GPU rendering" makes scrolling in Engadget very smooth (although it still stutters).
I understand that what I'm describing will be very subjective, and there'll be many "no lag here" type posts. Just writing about my experience with the Galaxy Note 3. Personally, I find it extremely disappointing. I will never buy another Samsung product.

I'm loving every part of my note 3 so far and find everything smooth and responsive. Battery life has been excellent and the screen is a wonder. But it's all opinions and there will never be a phone that is universally liked by every single person.
Hopefully things will improve for you and you start to enjoy using this wonderful device

Yes, that's typical to Samsung, even with 3GB of RAM it's lags more than devices with 2 GB of RAM and that bunch of bloatware makes it work slower and plus KNOX that you can't to restore if it's changes to 0x1 so it's means you will loose your warranty.
What can I say, Samsung is getting worse and worse, I have my first and the last Samsung phone, because with that their stupid policy I won't buy their phones, and I think they will lose their position some day.

Do you have the S800 or Exynos model?

Bummer. Instead of starting your own thread, could you add your experiences to the Buyer's Remorse thread?

Maybe you could try the iPhone 5S powered by the Samsung manufactured 64 bit chip.doh that's no good then

I have a nexus 4 and upgraded the missus to note 3 and after turning off the s stay s stuff that she would never use( s-pen functionality still left on) it runs like a dream so much so that I would give her my nexus in a flash if she wanted to swap. Maybe you have a bad one as I am not having the same experience.

I'm assuming they mean "Smart Stay, Smart Pause" etc.

I own Sony xperia x ultra and I confirm that it is is much smoother than Note 3 even that has only 2 GO of RAM. But the note has a charm and other things that made a little lag just not important: sound quality, s planner, smart stay, camera quality. At the moment the Note is the best SMART PHONE on the market. ( I do own S4 and XZU). My dream device is Note 3 with IP67.

I checked out the Note 3 at an AT&T corporate store, and as I posted in one of my threads, it isn't very impressive. Note 1 feels much more premium compared to the Note 3.
There is something about Note 3 which screams "cheap toy!!" - maybe it's the build quality or the weight. Even the software isn't as snappy as it should be. I had to press the "Return"/"Back" and the "Menu" button three or four times sometimes to get it to work. I was very disappointed to see all this mediocrity in a flagship Samsung phone in 2013.
The LG G2 is what we call snappy and in my opinion (and Techno Buffalo's), it is the best Android phone ever in terms of speed and responsiveness. If the LG G2 had a stylus, I would drop the plan to buy the Note 3 in a second. Playing with the Note 3 for about 20 mins unexpectedly made me wonder if it was an upgrade at all over my Note 1, let alone a Note 2, and that's disappointing.

Well the new features that the S4 is bringing will be coming in a software update to the S3, so if you already have the S3 it isn't really worth the upgrade.
It's the best phone you will be able to get... in the world. What do you mean is it worth it lol. But yeah if you have the s3, you might not need to upgrade. As I also have the Note 2, im waiting till the Note 4 comes out.

As a GSN2 user, the GS4 is a joke, I'll just wait for these random software upgrades comes to me.

Features one actually uses are the only features worth upgrading phones for. My wife still uses and loves the SGS 2. She has not want for the S3 or Note.
I don't need a 13MP camera. 5 is more than enough. 8 cores? I don't use what I have to it's maximum, except I belive battery life However, I have never used my extra battery on the Note 2 so battery life is plenty as I charge every night whether or not the phone is at 30% or 70%. Gimmicky features don't appeal to me.
Plastic does. Plastic = lighter and with larger and larger screens that is meaningful for me. I would love to see a Note 3 with a 6" screen and not use the Nexus.
The S3 for Note users is likely not worth the upgrade. For S3 users it very well may be. There are some nice additions as well but the N 3 will have them and more gimmicks in a few months.
If iPhone (i call it f*Phone) is being famous just adding 1or 2 new features every time ..and it considered worth upgrade..then why not Galaxy??? While it has every hardware and software is upgraded....

bye S4 - hello Note 3

I just got the Note 3 yesterday.
Let me make it clear by saying that I enjoyed every minute of owning the S4.
But I did start a thread saying I'll probably move to the N3 when it's released.
I actually moved from the Note1 to the S4.
I'm moved from the Note 1 to the S4 primarily because of the high-resolution screen and the LTE 4G.
But I was never really comfortable because the screen on the S4 was small something that I felt suffocated , claustrophobic.
My main concern or lets day apprehension was the possible difference in PPI.
I noticed.the ppi difference between the Note2 and Note3 immediately.
Yes it's there with the s4 vs n3 but not as much.
It's mostly there with apps that haven't adapted to the large format I think.
Other than disgustingly terrible battery life, I had no issues with the s4.
I liked the s4 ,was a great interim phone but my heart lies with the large sizes creens.
After using my S4 as primarily a media device I too am tempted by a bigger screen. Having good unlimited data has really brought this phone alive. The N3 is definitely something to consider.

Hope you enjoy your new device. For me personally, the S4 is as big as I'd ever want a daily carry smartphone to be. I'm a big guy, but anything larger than the S4 is just firmly into the Phablet category for me. And the battery life on my S4 has been outstanding with Juice Defender installed.

The delete icon is back on top in the gallery.
For some reason in the previous version they replaced the delete icon with the last used shared icon.
So to delete a picture you'd have to enter menu then find the delete button then press it, then confirm.
Now its an icon on top next to share and last used.
What a relief.
Why would they bury it in the menu settings anyways?

It looks like the Note 3 is better under sunlight.
What I hate with Note 3 is the high price and the fact that you need 2 hands for everything on it,apart the big screen it has nothing better
Note III isn't that "BIG" change from S4 i don't own the device but i didn't get "i must get it" since 4.3 update gets most of the "features i've seen" on the note III the new browser etc,
and if you wan't more note III features well, we can use the apps from the leak
also stock browser have been better, new thing is bad, loading pages isn't going as it once used to
I had a play around with a Note 3 a couple of days ago and I came to the same conclusion that I did with the Note 2 before it. Namely that it's too big to be practical as a mobile phone and too small to be a tablet. And that's coming from someone with big hands.
It looks lovely but it's not for me, the S4 at 5" is the perfect size for a mobile phone. And the screen looks smoother due to the increased DPI.
One thing that does interest me is the bootloader. Does it come with Knox by default?

Getting a Moto X instead...

This is kinda weird coming from a guy who has been a Samsung guy since the Captivate back in the day. I've had the OG Note, and I currently have a Note II.
I had the chance to get my hands on both the Note 3 and the Moto X side-by-side, and I have to say, I was more impressed with the Moto X overall.
Don't get me wrong though, I think the Note 3 is a fantastic device, but there were a couple of negatives that stood out to me and desuaded my purchase impulse.
1. Performance: I was VERY surprised by this one. I would have thought that with the Snapgradon 800 and 3GB of RAM, this device shouldn't even flinsh when it came to performance. Sadly, even my current Note II felt faster and smoother in a lot of instances. Web browsing, using Maps, and various other UI animations, etc, all felt way more jittery than I would have thought was acceptable. The Moto X on the other hand, could seriously give an iDevice a run for its money as far as real-world preformance and fluidity is concerned, just to give you an idea.
2. The new S-pen: Never mind all the new features; the new pen itself feels kinda flimsy compared to the previous generation. Seriously, I could feel the plastic of the whole pen flex under the pressure of just pressing the button.
3. Region locking: This is just the final straw for me. I travel a LOT, so this is a total deal breaker if I can't swap SIM cards from other regions. I don't know why Samsung decided to do this, but it was a bad move for this customer...
Honestly, in the brief time I had with both devices, the one thing that I will be sad about not having is that screen on the Note 3; it's simply a wonder to behold.
The Moto X has a great screen too, but it's no Note 3 by any stretch.
Anyway, that's all! Maybe the region locking can be sorted out by the dev community here, and hopefully the performance issues can be fixed with updates. Until then, my money isn't going to Samsung...
That's all!
Wow, I had completely different experience. I felt the note 3 was so much faster then the 2. Also Google maps recalculated do fast it almost mind boggling. One con I swear maps has a different annoying voice. But I might be crazy.

I haven't actually got my hands on a Note 3 yet, but I've used the Moto X side by side a Nexus 4, and I was disappointed in the Moto X.. and I find the Note 2 to handle better than the Nexus 4 (at least for what I get to do during the 30 minute play sessions). And so.. transitively, since the general consensus is that the Note 3 is a step up over the Note 2, I feel like the Note 3 would be a much more favorable option. But hey, it's your phone. As long as you're happy, everything is all good!

My wife is using a Moto X on Verizon and I am on a TMO Note 3. Both are excellent phones and they suit both of our uses. Note 3 feels faster than the Moto X in my opinion, but not by much. My wife will probably say the opposite. Good choice with the Moto X. I can't see someone regretting that decision.
I'm going from note 2 to moto x as well. If the moto customizations with voice don't blow me away then I'll return for a note 3.

The AT&T store I went to last weekend had display units of both phones. I'm not sure if both were necessarily available for sale, but that wasn't the reason for going in there anyway; I just wanted to get some hands-on time with them side-by-side.

After all my complications with the Droid Razr I refuse to ever use Motorola again. Terrible terrible terrible experience. I have sent my phone in for repair/warranty more than 10x. The non-removable battery means it will go bad quickly and once it does, your kinda screwed. Hate my Droid Razr with a passion. Hopefully they've corrected their mistakes in the Moto X, but as far as I'm concerned I cant trust them to do it.
My wife is rocking the s4, and had the s3 before that. I've always been jealous of how well her phones worked so I decided to get the Note 3 . So this will be my first Samsung device, and hopefully I will have a good experience with it.
Good luck to ya, old chap. Don't see why you felt the need to tell us, but good luck anyhow.

my first experience with samsung was with the s2, and after the next two notes and I have always been happy with them :good:
when i first looked at the note 3 at AT&T last week the moto x surprised me. way to small for me to ever use but felt really nice and snappy

Thought about the moto x, but have decided I can't have a phone without a removable battery. I travel a lot and being able to swap batteries is something I've gotta have.

True another big reason i didnt or havent bought an htc one. and also no sdcard slot kills it too. but phone felt really nice. if i didnt like 1080p and higher ppi screens and didnt care about size or sdcard and battery it would be a great device. moto was so close to having a home run. that phone with a 5" 1080p screen, removable battery and sdcard, and the dev support with unlocked bootloader etc etc phone would be a huge seller. i think that should be the next nexus phone.
Note II faster than Note 3 ?!?.

THIS. dont know how people say this

So who will be jumping ship

Been comparing the s5 to the note 3 I'm still on the fence.
Will anyone be changing to the s5 or would Change of they could?
Also other then size what would be your reasons

i change my note 3 to the m8 soon.
but the note 3 is much better than the s5 imo. bigger screen (no problem, i have big hands), 1 gb more ram (m8 have 2gb to, but there are more pro's for the m8 though), better design. and much cheaper atm
Don't feel the need to upgrade, I love my 3gb of ram, bigger screen and the stylus.
I would however consider upgrading to the note 4 when it will come out... can't go to a smaller screen, note 4 should be a beast by the rumors.

I got the S5 as a secondary phone as the note 3 is just a touch big for some of my shorts pockets.
Both have their pros and cons but if I were to stick with only one, I'd stick with the note 3

Don't mind the looks, build quality and general experience of the M8 but the low res camera is a joke for 2014 and 16GB is not enough with the new Kitkat restrictions on external SD cards! Why are ALL these clowns making 16GB flagships when the external SD card has just been severely limited in use???
I made the same question when I had the Note 2 amd the S4 came.... I downgraded to S4 because the Note2 was big for my jeans pocket but the Note 2 is better than the S4. Now I ordered the Note 3 for the bigger screen and 3gb ram.
I'll jump ship to the Note 4 LOL
going to S5 would be retrocess..

I feel that its just the camera that's one up so no. Even if the note 4 comes out, unless its also water resistant, I don't think I'd trade my note 3 in.
I wouldn't go to the S5.. That would be a downgrade in my eyes.
The Note 3 still has a few advantages over the current crop 2014 smartphones, buying a S5,M8,Z2 is just wasting money I think.
Plus come end of the year, those that sold their Note 3 for a S5,M8,Z2 ect will only be selling it again "at a big loss" when the Note 4 arrives.
So no i won't be buying anything until the Note 4 arrives later on in the year, even then i'll wait until around Christmas time when the price will have dropped, as it did with the Note 3 when i bought it.
Until then I just hope Samsung doesn't now neglect the Note 3, with the lack of updates & fixes like they did with the Note 2.

I hesitated a long time as I wanted to see what competition came up with.
Both X2 and M8 looked nice but the reviews I read didn't convince me.
Last Saturday I couldn't resist and bought my Note 3.
OK the difference isn't that wild with the N2 but I don't regret it; it's like the 2 but far smoother and faster. Also the screen is way nicer.
I'm particularly amazed by the battery. With my 2 I'd be very close to 80% or even lower while my N3 is at 91%
I fear like you that updating will be a mess once Samsung launches the next generation but we'll have to live with that I guess.

I felt confident I wouldn't feel let down by getting the Note 3, and I don't. Even today I'd plump for the Note 3 over the S5, all being equal. The Note 4 will tempt me but I seriously think this is the first phone I will keep for two years. I just don't see any gamechangers or ways to improve on this form factor and hardware anytime soon. Only bigger/better battery upgrades or a jump up in camera would make a big difference.
Short version: hardware is fantastic and so is the software

I held S5 in my hands last weekend. There is no comparison. It looks and feels cheap and small. I'll be keeping my Note 3.
I've got both. I prefer my Note 3.
The S5 is convenient when you need something dust/waterproof. (my N3 could not have survived yesterday's close encounter with a pool. (I hate the smell of chlorine!))
My hands are quite small (glove size 6, female), but I have no issues with the size of the note 3.
Also, as an Intuos user, I very much love the Spen.

If you have a Note 3 then you already have the better phone.
surely , note 3 is still #1
M8 , G2 pro , S5 ... doesn't have the s-pen .
S-pen is the reason then i'm in love with note 3 .
just note 4 can come on top of note 3 .
I have not used the Spen much. It doesn't help much with my use. Maybe someone can post a few tips using the Spen ??

Unless you like to spill money, you won't be going for s5 or even m8. They may be great phones but note 3 is a beast, a pure complete phone for multitasking.

I feel apple will have a edge on Note 4

After seen Note 4 episode, i feel Apple will give big damage to sales of note 4, if someone want samsung note only why they will buy expencive note 4 when note 3 will be available in half price of that, also iphone is coming with bigger screen, i predict tough year for samsung sale.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Free mobile app
I doubt that iPhone will have better camera.. Also iPhone could never achieve what note 3 and note 4 can, with Samsung office options, including S Pen
sent from note3
I am not a fan of iPhone but i don't feel break through between note 3 & note 4, so max s- pen fan will go for note 3 because of price & definitely some crowd who like iphone but because of small screen came to samsung will go for Iphone i guess.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Free mobile app
iPhone wont be a threat to Note 4 only if Samsung manages to keep the price almost same as or below Note 3 and well lets wait and see what Apple has to offer coz since past 1-2 years phone upgrades haven't been anything extra ordinary as there's nothing much left to surprise, so lets just wait and see.

I have never liked iPhones
Even if will be having bigger screen
I never like The iOS and its UI
Its not because of I am Android fanboy
Android its genuinely better in my opinion.
And I was expecting 4 GB RAM and idk if it has x64 bit support.

I agree with you. As the owner of Samsung Galaxy Note 2 I will buy Note 3 instead of Note 4. It will be much more cheaper while the specs are almost the same.
Having in mind Samsung Galaxy Note 4, I expected a BIGGER battery (4000mAh), slightly bigger screen (5.9inch), stereo speakers (similar to HTC ONE). ?
Yes note 2, s2 , s3 owner will definitely prefer Note 3 because of price.

I feel Samsung is becoming a joke tbh. The design is almost the same and hardware wise it wont be running circles around the note 3. I guess it's bye bye Samsung for me in the future. I was hoping for an sd805 soc. Closed source exynos means no cm for it. Can't live w/o it.
Note 4 is a Note 3+
It was expected it wont be a huge difference
And the price is insane for a note 4
You have to wait 2 years if you want a real upgrade
For example
S3 to S5
Note 2 to note 4
And yes iphone will blow the note 4 away
With power of the cpu and the hardware
Cant go around this fact
Highly disappointed expected more so I would have a reason to upgrade good thing LG make great phones so I'll wait for the gflex2

This is first time I feel that Samsung has placed a suicide bomb in their department. Note series users always upgraded because Samsung provided something extra and special. I am afraid it is lacking in note 4. Hence most people , perhaps 90% are saying they won't upgrade from Note 3. This is indeed failure for Samsung.
One after one new model producing by sammy, which make them confused, mixed bag of different models in flagship model, nothing new, note 4 is mixture of S5 & alfa.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Free mobile app
Samsung must think note users are moronic iPhone users that will line up to throw away our money at the same product just because they added two more features to it. Well my note 3 is still kicking. I'll be looking for lg to redden themselves with the next lg flex they come out with. Thanks for the note 2 and 3 Samsung but it definitely looks like I'm skipping out on the note 4

Lol still note 3 is big upgrade for note 2 users
About the price, yes. note 4 should not be more expensive than note 3, if Samsung want to stay in race. but about the features of note 4, I'm kinda pleased. yes it's not that much a big update to note 3, but this is the case in every companies updates these days. after just one year, we should not waiting to see a revolution!
specially I'm pleased with new touchwiz UI which is way more modern and lighter than current version. multi tasking is much more useful now
I wont trade my note 3 for note 4 of course. just waiting for great devs to start porting it's rom maybe!
BTW the new iphone would have it's own buyers and the note 4 also! the Android and IOS users are separated widely since release of ICS and I don't think that there would be too many migrating users...

after launch of NOTE 4,Within a week time Devs will bring ROM with same Touch wiz UI I believe.
New touchwiz is crap. Hate it. Settings menu is awfull. I saw it on S5. Cant stand all the new icons like bubbles
Note 3 rooted knox 1, my last Samsuck crap. I want freedom. Stay away from Samsuck!
god i hope your wrong i think apple r crapple as i call em r just the most god awful phones . i work with phones and trouble shooting r doing anything with i phones is the pits
What a bunch of cry babies. You people need to understand that new phones these days do not have much to improve on, except perhaps for some software features. What did you expect? Snapdragon 1000? 6gb ram? They added what was available at today's standards.
Better build quality, a few more gimmicks and a sick ui. It's a win.
