Smart IR Remote app by Color Tiger - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Themes and Apps

I noticed this app is on sale for $5. It looks nice, but there doesn't appear to be a trial or anything. Has anyone used this app before? How does it work? Is it any good/worth the cash? It gets good reviews, but I rather hear from the horse's mouth what the thoughts are. Does it seem to support pretty much everything? Anyone know if it supports DirectTV boxes? Can it be used with a HTPC that has a IR module? Can you configure the interface the way you like or are the screens only the way the dev wants them?

I had a dodgy apk of it, since it had been taken off the Play Store. I have now bought it while it's on offer. Excellent app. Simple universal remote control with a brilliant widget. And now the tablet version and HTC version are all built into one app. I'd recommend it. Well worth 5 bucks.

Sadly it said it was on sale until midnight tonight. Saw it in the play store for $4.99, went to buy it and it was about to charge $9.99. Went to email the author, came back to try again and now play store had it at $9.99. Guess I'll wait for another sale...

I guess a follow-up question (maybe I should make a new thread?) is this:
Are there any good free universal remotes? I tried a few and they are like "You can control any TV before 1990 for free" or "you can control these 2 types of TV" and then you have to pay.
I'm just looking for a free one that's decent until a really good one goes on sale again. I regret not getting this one.

I also use Smart IR Remote. Works great for the most part, but it can't learn. due to Samsung's implementation
Anyone know if it supports DirectTV boxes?

I personally don't have DirecTV anymore, but it has about 20 codes for DirecTV boxes.

Yes, but since the Samsung can't learn it might be limited by that.

Since I was playing with house money (the $25 google play credit for registering the note 8.0) I snagged the smart remote app at the $6.99 sale price and I really like it. I have 3 tv's on my wall along with a wall mounted touch screen jukebox with infrared support. It was easy to come up with one page of the only needed buttons for all 3 tv's and juke box. I also edited the apk and added some images of local channels that were added to quick channel macros. The screen scrolls and includes the same channel macros for each of my other 2 tv's. The main power button in the upper left is a macro that sends power toggle to the 3 tv's and audio system.

Missing button for DirecTV
Just got this app and so far everything functions well except it seems to be missing the "LIST" button for DirecTV. Does anyone else use the Smart IR Remote with DirecTV? Am I missing something?

Chopper, how did you get the channel icons on those favorite channel buttons?
Also, is there a way to get that directional pad on a DirecTV remote?

How did you put the channel icons on the buttons?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

I don't use a dvd player so most of the custom icons for skip, play, rewind etc. were not used. I just replaced those icons in the apk with my local channel icons and resigned the apk and installed. I created macros for favorite channels and applied the channel icon within app. You can get icons from here http://www.iconharmony.com/icons/watchtv?category=harmonyOne. I did have a little contact with the app dev and they are working on "favorite" channel buttons that will also allow for adding icons from sd. The dpad only gets used within a universal remote. Create a new universal remote named direct tv and apply the commands and buttons from you direct tv remote in the edit mode and hide your original direct tv remote from the remote list.
good day.

I ended up buying it. Love the fact that I'm down to 1 remote (the Note 8). Sadly, two apps though since this won't work with my Roku. I have to use their app. Still, for two DirectTV, two TV's, and two DVD players (7 remotes total). It's a godsend!

I bought it but ended up choosing a refund soon after due to it being *very* hard to read the text in the settings. Its like its blurry or something on its black background.
Is it just me that experienced this?
I wanted this app but doubt I will buy it until that changes. The font displayed on the app screenshots are not the blurry text I saw in the app itself.

I bought this app because it was on sale last week. It is a good app and highly customizable with its several blank button. The macros help me to set one button to control several device at once and also build a single remote/interface to control some basic command for several devices.
I have several remote which are not listed in the app so I send the app developer an email. Gladly, they reply it within a day. They point out that some of my unlisted remote actually already in the list but with difference name specially for Panasonic tv (they keep reuse same remote code for their line of product). They also said will try to add one of my unlisted remote code if possible. That's 1 star for good after sales service.
But I really hope it has learning function, which later I learn it is a limitation from Samsung side.
Anyway, using Note 8.0 as a remote is not really practical for it large size. Normal phone size is okay but not Note 8.0.

Productive Wireless Linking Apps that Complement the Galaxy Note 8 with other Smartph

I still use my Galaxy Note II as it is convenient as a main communications device, while the Note 8 for when I need to work, drawing and presentations. I've been doing some research on making them connected productively.
The projectors in the school where I teach are still using the old VGA analog socket and I've finally found an HDMI to VGA adaptor to go along with the micro USB to HDMI compatible with the S3, S4, Note II, Note 10.1 and of course the Note 8. So, instead of spending much more on the AllShareCast dongle (I'll get one eventual as I had to spend on that rare VGA connector), I can connect my Note II to the projector to mirror what I have on the Note 8.
You need to root however. I really must say rooting gives more useful tools in making your Android devices as the more useful platform around.
For best remote control app with pointer pad, keyboard, media, and game controls, I recommend DroidMote. It's a paid app, and quite responsive via wifi or bluetooth. It's not optimized to respond to S Pen pressure sensitivity or be able to make line drawings on the receiving device.
For sms alerts, reading and composing using your smartphone's SIM number, Dinamotxt (paid) mirrors them on the Note 8 via bluetooth. This is especially useful for me as the stick my Note II on the window as a wifi hotspot as I have an unlimited data plan.
And finally, RemoDroid (beta, and is still free!). It exactly mirrors whatever you are working showed on the streaming device to receiving device(s) via wifi signal. Receiving device(s) can remote control the streaming device. It's not that smooth but I can demonstrate drawing processes and markups on presentation slides.
There are other apps but the above are the more useful. Got any other effective apps you can recommend?

I discovered that with RemoDroid, you can view your streaming Android device's screen display on a computer on the same wifi network. You just need to type the designated URL on the PC's web browser found on the device, and a small flash applet would be initiated to start the viewing. There is a lag though, depending how busy is the network.
In this way, you just need the projector connected to the pc to present your device's content wireless. Pretty neat. I get to walk around the classroom while lecturing.

Hello, just thought I'd give my input on good linking apps for the note 8 and a smartphone. Have you tried foldersync or syncme? I like the idea of syncing folders across devices (no pc or internet/drop box required).
My usage scenrio is mainly for taking down notes for lectures...the note 8 is great for notes and annotating images for notes but the 5 megapixel camera (although nice) is just not up to par for taking pictures of white boards or power point slides from afar. Furthermore, lifting a tablet to take pictures is somewhat unwieldly. I can take pictures using the S2 then sync (not just "transfer" but "synchronize") camera folders so I can edit the pictures immediately on the note 8 for note taking. I use camera ace on the S2 since it can designate what folder gets your pictures as you take them. So you can set up a "LECTURES" setup up that immediately dumps pics to a "LECTURES FOLDER" and a "FAMILY" SET UP for a family folder. There's also camscanner to convert the pictures of that folder to a PDF. then sync all over to the note 8 at a push (vis syncme or foldersync) of a button and do annotating/note taking there. "SYNCHRONIZation" is more efficient then transferring bulk files i believe.
The only problem with syncME is that it uses smb shares but if your note 8 is already rooted then samba share servers are all over the playstore. Foldersync is more robust in that it supports FTP, SFTP, FTPS, SMB, WEB DAV, CLOUD (like drop box) and resume (sometimes).Lately, though, a few versions back, reviews on the playstore claimed foldersync showed riskware? Haven't detected any though on the latest update. :fingers-crossed:

Ah, I'll try those. I've been thinking about syncing folders. Cloud saving is done manually.
There is also an sms app called dinamotxt that transmits your sms to your tab if your phone unit is your main com number of other number.

Nice, I'll check out dinamotxt also...
Regarding sms, across tab and phone, you reminded me of a particular project I've been trying to get up and running between the note 8 and S2...its usese tasker.
I already know tasker can be used to automate and send commands across android devices using autovoice and autoremote but these usually require internet and an online website html web page...
I'm trying to get my S2 to dish out commands to the note 8 while it's in may bag..
Scenario 1 (tried and it works/but really just a proof of concept):
1) I will call the note 8 with the phone...
2) This will trigger bluetooth on which will connect to the S2
--blue tooth is already triggered on the S2 when I called the note 8 (automatically via a tasker profile)
or
2) wifi or AP will be triggered on both divices so they can connect instantaneously (all simply by calling the note 8, again all automated with tasker on both devices)
3)an sms messaging app connecting tablet and phone is also simultaneously triggered. I use sms tablet lite. (works fine so far but I'll give dinamotxt a try as well ).
4) from there I can tell the note 8 to sms someone using it's own sim card without ever pulling the note 8 out of the bag.
5) tasker will automatically turn off bluetooth or wifi based on a set number of conditions (after a lull time with no commands / change in geolocation or after a second call from the S2)
Scenario 2 (what I hopefully want to accomplish to unleash to full might of tasker)-> this hopefully is done with no internet connection or paid sms
1) call the note 8
2) trigger bluetooth or AP or wifi lan or even wifidirect
3) send tasker commands from the S2 to the note 8...from here on the possibilities are endless....
tasker commands, tasker profiles, tasker scenes....
4) AUTOMATICALLY shut off the connection again via tasker.
Possible solutions: Nonrooted devices:
1) as I mentioned ealrier, all of these can already be accompished via autoremote and autovoice but these all require a working internet connection and an html/url web page on a server somewhere (it's not that I don't trust the autoremote developer who I think is a true genius, it's just that I want it all to run without the internet....)...
2) SMS message: send an sms message from the S2 to the NOTE 8 (the main reason why i got the note 8 3G version was for tasker and not really to make calls)...set up tasker to read the sms message and then take it from there but this will cost money (cheap but still not free). it is a very plausible solution though.
3) send messages to the notification bar.-tasker can read notifications and take it from there
-This is the real dilemma...the best messaging system (LAN or AP without the need for paid sms or internet) I've found that sends messages to the notification bar is IPMSG: it sends the entire "message" leading to very specific commands via tasker.
-the problem is that with the latest jellybean update, the notification panel has become rather complex (it's interactive now with pictures and all). Tasker can no longer distinguish the main body of the notificaiton from the title of the notification...and since the title of the notification for IPMSG is always "new message" that kinda limits me to just one type of command. (tasker now only read the title of the notification)
4) remote widgets:
I read that the sony smart watch has an app then can put widgets on the smartphone directly on the smartwatch. Tasker can trigger commands based on customized widgets. So you can press on a widget on the watch and tasker does the command immediately as if you touched the tablet. I'm trying to look for an app that does the same thing but instead of putting the widgets on a smartwatch, it will put the tasker widget on the S2.
Possible solutions: for rooted device.
1) if you have a rooted device, utter! which I found here on XDA is a possiblity. Utter can make use of google's built in offline voice recognition software and links with tasker, you can voice command the note 8 via the phones-utter->offline-google voice recognition->tasker tablet.
This i haven't done yet...
I'm really interested in fully integrating tasker between the note 8 and various other android devices. I think it is the true defining factor of the complete android experience setting android miles apart from the proprietary mobile OS's. Just wish I could get it to work...hehe...:fingers-crossed:
ProjectER, wow, I only keep a smartwatch (SE LiveView) to control my GT-N7100 than my Note 8. I really use my 8 as a secondary number with my old SIM card for contacts who aren't updated with my new number.
I connect a bluetooth ear set to both for incoming calls. I also opt to get myself a Sony stereo bluetooth earpiece with display to read text and incoming call ids for both. Expensive as the unit maybe at P5k, I want one for easy operation while commuting. It has a slot for micro SD and a radio.
I don't like taking out my devices so much in public. I've done some extensive forum posts about the Hidden Note 8 and II for concealment.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using XDA Premium HD app
I had bought the 5 pack NFC Tec Tiles that triggers tasks or profile changes for my Note II. When I was looking for an app that does more than the Samsung NFC Managervapp, I found an interesting one called NFC Task Launcher by Tagstand. It has some extra features for non-NFC functions.
What's interesting about this app for the Note 8 is that you can trigger apps/tasks/settings when you connect/disconnect bluetooth or wifi, even via location, time/day, battery percentage and is Tasker compatible.
You can use your bluetooth devices like an media player to turn on/off the wifi hotspot for example. You need not take out the Note 8.
The only thing is, the app doesn't appear on the Play Store via Note 8 and I had to extract and copied the apk of it using Titanium Backup to install.
It's another addition in making my Hidden Note 8 project even better.

Until Google gets sync going.......DataSync
If you use any of the same apps on both phablet/phone and tablet or just multiple types of devices it is nice to have the same app data across all devices. Works via WiFi, NFC, and BT and the paid version syncs automatically.
One more app that is meant for the sake of time tracking and management and as such it is the market leader in terms of time tracking. The tool that I am talking about is Replicon. The hassle free experience with cloud based and calender based and user friendly interface helps manage the time and keep the users active and upto the mark.
아직 해보지 않아서 잘 모르지만, 이렇게 간단하고 편리하게 업그레이드 할 수 있을 것 같아서 기대 됩니다. 감사합니다.
Translation: I haven't tried it yet, so I don't know for sure, but I'm looking forward to it because I think it'll be a simple and convenient upgrade. Thank you.

[APP/13 Jan/2.4] CarHud - Heads Up Display for Speed and Music Info

PRIVACY POLICY:
I don't collect or do anything with any of your data, any data used by the app is kept within the app.
UPDATE: BIG THANKS TO AMDPhenomX4 WHO HAS PROVIDED SOME UPDATES TO THE CODE, HIS UPDATES CAN BE FOUND HERE https://github.com/jaredkaczynski/CarHud_2.4_Update2
I missed the HUD in my corvette when in my daily driver, so I decided to throw this app together. I'm using the AppRadio 3 so my "sender" device is the one playing music, but I wanted the track info on the HUD so the result is this app. It's very much a work in progress, but I thought I'd throw it out there for anyone else to try to see if anyone has any ideas on how to make it cooler or wants to help with development. I figure most of us here probably have an old, unused android phone sitting in a drawer that might be of better use as a HUD.
SETUP:
STANDALONE:
- Works as a standalone HUD. Uses GPS for speed data and displays track information.
SENDER:
- You must pair the bluetooth device you want to connect to before hand, then select that device in settings.
- This device simply listens for media changes and text messages and relays them via bluetooth to the receiver.
RECEIVER:
- This method listens for an incoming bluetooth connection, and once connected, listens for track information and incoming text messages.
PLANS:
- Cobra aura database
- plugins for google play, pandora; (if available)
- revamp display for different screen sizes
I still haven't gotten around to making a video of my setup... its been to cold here in IL to do much work to the car!
##### SOURCE CODE
I've had some requests to modify my files and make changes and updates. As I have had no time to do so, I'm releasing the source code for anyone to use and tweak as they see fit.
If you use any of my source code, I ask that you not charge anyone for your resulting project and please make your updates available here for us all to enjoy!

I'll rebuild the apks when I get back to my office on Monday... I've made a couple changes since then too.. working on adding auto scrolling to the media text. Sorry it's not currently working.
No worries, I was just curious about it and liked the idea.

Dude, that's pretty sick! I'm a bit confused though.
This is for a second device to act as HUD (that perhaps stays with the car) and maintains a connection to the car's bluetooth A2DP to stream music to the car; bluetooth OBDII dongle for rpm; bluetooth Iradar?
So, Ideally, this HUD device might be a tablet?
Where does the HUD device get internet? from my daily driver phone in my pocket? or it doesn't need it?
Got anymore screenshots?
Looks really coool man. Thanks for the hard work!
Is this in the play store?

Thanks for the comments, I appreciate it! I haven't heard too much feedback from anyone, so I was curious is anyone had any interest in it.
Anyway, while carhud can work as a standalone, I designed it for my needs which would be for two devices. I've got an appradio 3 in the car that basically makes your android phone your headunit for playing music, navigation, etc etc. So my main android phone (galaxy s4) is always the device playing music in my car. So carhud is running as a sender on it and sending pertinent info over to the receiver device (my old phone, a samsung galaxy s2). The s2 makes its own connections to obd2 and the cobra and then just waits for info from my main phone. So, even if my main phone wasn't connected, I would still get speed, rpm, temp, battery and radar alerts.
The connection between the two phones is just a simple bluetooth serial port for sending data, so the a2dp conneciton is still between my gs4 and the headunit. The sender simple reads the current playing track and sends that data via serial over to the gs2. It does the same thing for incoming calls, texts, navigation commands, etc. So this setup would work perfect for people using any type of audio connection(wired, a2dp, or hdmi/mhl like the appradio) to their car headunit.
The HUD device could be any android app you wanted it to be. I figured a lot of people probably had old android phones laying around their house, no longer in use, that they wouldn't mind dedicating for this... and wouldn't be concerned about leaving them in their car. But, you could definately use a tablet too. Although, I think the smaller screen of an old phone might be more reasonable to have in the dash.
Carhud doesn't use any data on the hud once installed, but I do have bluetooth tethering enabled on mine for any data the s2 might want. I'm then using tasker to automate that connection.
Also, I'm using tasker to handle auto starting carhud on boot and auto shutdown once power is lost. I then put a modified playlpm on the gs2 to enable auto turn on once it sees power.. giving me a fully automated system.
As far as screenshots, I'm working on making a video of it in action once I figure out a good hud film. Right now I've just got the phone in mirror mode bouncing off some light tint in the windshield. It looks great at night but during the day the HUD is barely visible. I'm going to try to find some darker tint to put on the front windshield to see if that resolves the issue. Once I get that going I'll focus on getting a demo video up.
Thanks again! Feel free to hit me up with any other questions, or suggestions, or anything. I'm always looking for ways to make it better.
-John
ah, gotcha. cool! This would work really well with a tablet!!! There's that $200 13.3" Archos tablet that would be perfect for a wide-angle heads-up display!!!
Hey, I didn't realize you had updated right before Thanksgiving for maps access. I'll definitely be using for Christmas. Can't wait to try it out. Now I just have to upgrade my s4 to 4.3 finally. Also, do you have a donate link? And have you put it on play?

Yeah, I added a simple step by step direction display to the hud... it only works from the sender and only on 4.3 devices (since it grabs the info from the notification and 4.3 added that ability). Hopefully that works out for you. I still would like to throw in a full fledged navigation with map display, but it'll take some time because of the new google maps api and the dropped features. I am planning on throwing it on google play here pretty soon, I've made a couple more bug fixes that I want to integrate. I'll probably just throw an ad in the settings page to try to make a few bucks for further hardware purchases (I'm really hoping to try out a pico projector setup for the hud!!) But as far as donations, I really really appreciate it but I just want to throw this out there for now, open to all for free in hopes that I'll get some good feedback and ideas to come up with something really cool in the end.

If you get the builtin maps support working, if possible with the new api, that would be awesome. The only other suggestion I would like is a couple things like elevation and temp. I have the temp always in my notification from beautiful widgets. But that might be pretty specific to just me.
Anyway, from what I've seen so far it looks great. It'll be tomorrow before I can jump to 4.3 and test. And if you go the pico projector route post up some pics, if you don't mind. Lastly, for daytime usage, the one thing I have found that works great is a 7 in mirrored tablet screen protector. The only thing I'm afraid of with using it is the reflection also seems to go the other way a little bit, and I don't want to get pulled over.

One small problem and one small request.
The problem is I can't access the menu on my Galaxy Nexus to set it up from the start. I had no problem with the s4, but it has hardware buttons.
Next, could I request full screen support on devices that have onscreen buttons. I was going to use the nexus as my receiver and s4 as my sender.
Thanks regardless of the answer.

New update released to google play. Now using action bar for settings, which should resolve any tablet issues. Also added elevation for ya... still working out a good method for temperature. It's definitely going to require data usage, so trying to figure out the best method. Let me know how it goes please!

I've used a mirrored tablet screen protector before and that works great. But it reflects off the front of the car, so I made me nervous about getting pulled over.

The Inactive Skyrocket Projects Thread

This thread is dedicated for the skyrockets no longer being used for service. The purpose of this is to see what kind of life we can give this phone other than keeping it in a drawer. as of now this does not have any original development but ideas and hopefully we will get some developments with this. please feel free to share your ideas, links and screenshots of things you may be doing with your device if it's inactive.
1. XBMC
Whether you are wanting to use the device around the house or on the tv xbmc is an awesome solution for your media needs. I have a media server in my house with dvd .iso's, music, and games all being delivered to my networked devices so one cool way to access the media is xbmc. for those of you who don't know xbmc is xbox media center it was originated for the original xbox for those who moded. It has evolved into one of the best open source multi-platform media solutions around.
I downloaded the app from here personally I'm using 13 RC1 gotham the app itself seems to be downloading as a .txt so you need to rename it to .apk before installing. once installed launch the app and any media on the device will be detected any media you have on your home network can be set up to access it by browsing to the source. The app will play most popular formats and will play .iso videos directly. If anyone runs stock firmware I'd like some input on if you can use mhl with xbmc as well as a bt mouse and keyboard giving you a decent tv experience on the cheap.

2. Child Friendly device (WIP)
For me this is going to be a proof of concept more than an actual thing. My son is 4 years old and sometimes to entertain him in public settings or if he's been good we let him play games on one of our phones for a while. this obviously has some issues since he's an evil genius and likes to tinker. I'll be using nova launcher prime for this use case. First add any apps you wish to allow the child to use to your homescreen, delete the app launcher button and hide the notification bar (set gestures as needed). make sure you hide any apps you don't want them using from the app drawer, also make sure you have play set up to ask for your password every time, alot of the free apps have links to other apps which they try and buy (trust me my son pulled it off on the wife's iphone). The pics are just a quick mock up of what you can do to handle most of the little things kids try to do. i had two finger swipe up for app drawer and down for notifications hide anything i don't want him using and I have my password set so he can't buy anything without me.
im fimiliar w/xbmc , openelec, xbmcbuntu etc. but i never tried the android version, which one did u try, the arm or x86.
btw on firefox they both dl as an apk file
I was using chrome So that may be why, arm is the one you need for the rocket.

Nice note for those at home. If you rename libril.so it kills the no sim warning and stops the cell radios. So for unused devices it will do wonders for extending battery life.

I use mine as an MP3 player/GPS. I removed all telephone/SMS/MMS related apps from vincom's superlite AOKP and get 5-6 days on a charge with 3.5-4 hours screen on time, and with GPS and Bluetooth always on. I didn't rename libril.so like you suggested but it doesn't seem to search for a signal nor does the status bar have that black triangle you get when you don't have a signal. I've been running it like this for about a month. @TheCybertronian, I think this thread is a good idea. This phone still rocks even when you don't use it as a phone anymore. Now I'm wondering what else I might be able to do with it...
@1BadWolf I was never a fan of the rockets audio quality so I used my evo 4g for mp3 but I will do a write up for it in the next few days.

No, it's not great but installing King Beatz helped it out a lot.
My plan is to build a mount for it and put in my car semi-permanently as a digital dash using Torque and a BT OBD-II adapter, and navigation using CoPilot. I also want to try using a mini BT keyboard/mouse to control it, so that could get interesting.
@rpr69 if you do id like to see you do a step by step with materials used and pictures, think you can pull that off?

I have tried installing KingBeatz (current version, test version and 2 older versions) from http://goo.gl/C83XrX (xda link just shorter). I can't seem to find it in my app drawer or in Apollo's settings. Can you give a play by play for your install method (maybe with flashable zips)? I see the Beatz app as a system app when using "System App uninstaller" from the Play Store.
I removed Apollo and DSP Manager to see if that helped, no dice. Maybe because I'm on an Avatar 4.3 rom?

I just flashed the zip posted in the thread that you linked. The app that it installed is called Beatz and is similar to DSP manager but with a few changes. You'll need to have one of the MP3 players listed in the op of the King Beatz thread, though because the zip file doesn't install a separate player.
Baby Mon/Security Cam
I realize I'm not breaking the mold here, but I've always kind of thought that I'd use it in conjunction with a IP Webcam App to serve as a security camera or possibly baby monitor if we end up with another baby. In combination with DDNS it can be used remotely and cost next to nothing to maintain.

If I get time I'll try to throw together some screenshots and walk-throughs but it's really pretty simple. The app I've used is here , it's easy enough for anyone to use and can be viewed on a browser. If you get on your router and forward the port you choose (8080 by default) to your phone's IP you can view remotely. It even has a dedicated mode, which I've not played with but is what planted the seed to begin with.
its pretty easy
1st find your phones ip address
from phone open ip webcam> start server
pc browser "put phones ip address here w/out quotes":8080
webcam browser window>video>browser or which ever method works for you
you can record, take snapshots etc

Well..for those who like to play around with stuff, this phone has all the required hardware for packet injection and WiFi monitor mode. Using the bcmon app you can enable and disable monitor mode on the WiFi chip.. Cool for penetration testing and general fun. Also I was able to get Kali Linux running and on-screen viewable using linuxdeploy app and vncviewer.. Runs pretty decent. Also I agree the audio on the skyrocket is awful. I may check that kingbeatz thing out.

[APP][4.0+] Kore, a new Kodi/XBMC remote

Hi all,
Kore is a new Kodi/XBMC remote for Android, which aims to be simple, easy to use and beautiful.
Kore allows you to control your Kodi/XBMC, see what's currently playing and the current playlist, change subtitles and audiostreams, download your media locally, access your media library, check info about each item (supports movies, TV shows, music and addons), and more.
Kore is free and open source. The in-app purchase lets you buy me a coffee, so i can continue to improve Kore.
Some links:

Source
Kore is new, and though I've tried my best to make sure it works, surely there are bugs lurking somewhere. Help me test it and report your experiences here or contact me.
Thanks

Thanks. Tried to follow Material design guidelines, though i took some liberties at some points. It also looks better on lollipop as there are some extra animations.
Looks promising. Long time a yatse user, but I'm giving this app a try. Beautiful and with all the features I normally use. Just a suggestion to make the send text option visible in the top bar with an icon, instead of hidden in the menu. Thanks

Will consider it. I know that having only one command under the menu doesn't make much sense, and that it should be a separate icon, but in the future i suspect that there will be more commands under the menu, so that's why i chose to include it right from the start.
will give it a try:good:
Android Wear
I recommend adding Android Wear support, after realizing Yatse does, I bought it immediately! Good Luck!
Looking promising but still lots of bugs. For example the obvious bug is when you click on the remote button (which is on the upper screen) doesn't do anything except "connecting" and may crush after a while.
when the app search for my kodi it doesn't find it although with yatse it does.
Hope to see bug fixes and many more features in the future.
Sweet!
Much improved from the old Official XBMC Remote app.
Thanks!
I can see this giving Yatse a run if we could get streaming integrated. Very cool that you made it open source.
It is just the start in terms of functions and bugs, but it is beautiful! Long time paid Yatse user and if you continue this way I will have to re-think which app I am going to use.
It works great, good job Also much better looking than the old official XBMC one.
I've tried Yatse also, but I just needed an app which had remote control and not all the other stuff, like libraries and streaming etc. And this seems to fit quite well
Hopefully you keep it light-weight and simple.
KillerApp
Woah, dude, this is awesome. Very nice piece of software.
Finally my xmbc device is useful again
Just wondering would it be possible to bring Phone notifications with this remote? I use Kodi on Fire TV one thing I would love to see if notifications from my phone like texts etc.. would be awesome!
VERY NICE!! :good::good:
Suggestion :
Is it possible to add a "volume slider" just above, below or to the side of the remote buttons for a smoother and faster volume adjustment?
Great job!!

Looking good. Library loads quickly and scrolls smoothly.
The only bug I see is that some TV series do not show episodes under the season. Going to the episodes tab shows the seasons but clicking the season does nothing but toggle the little arrow. Forcing a refresh seems to allow you to see the episodes. Other series do not have this issue.
I am a long time Yatse user here and its nice to see another nicely designed XBMC/Kodi remote app.

Seems like it didn't connect to your kodi. Do you have a firewall and might it be preventing it from connecting. BTW, automatically finding kodi/xbmc is done through zeroconf, which can be tricky. Try hitting the "search again" button several times.

I'm not very keen on messing with notifications or, for instance, pausing videos when a call comes, because that requires some permissions which can be hard to justify (access notifications, access phone calls. On a remote app? why?). Yeah, i know, there are justifications and this is open-source and all, but i'm still not convinced (for now, i may change my mind).

Possibly the library syncing hadn't finished yet. After you add a media center, the syncing starts, and it can take a while. If you go to Movies/TV Shows/Music while it is syncing you'll get partial results, and seeing all the TV Shows, but not the episodes is a symptom of that. By the way, if you did a refresh while the other sync was running, you might get duplicate episodes... If thats the case just do another refresh.

Those must have Apps that make life more enjoyable on your device

I was curious what the killer, must install apps are for everyone. I am not talking about Facebook, Instagram, or system apps that allow for rooting or managing space, but the Apps that make your life on your device much more enjoyable.
I will share mine:
1- Go Launcher. I love this System. Highly customizable and easily usable.

2- 1 Tap Quick Bar. This adds a quick launch bar at the bottom of the pull-down menu. Available anywhere you are in Android. I keep stuff like my Camera, a Calculator, a shopping list app, etc there.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rootuninstaller.onetap
3- Power Line. This simple app provides very light lines that indicate the various systems on your phone. I only use the power line, but there are a lot to choose from. Nice that it is always there, to see instantly what your levels are.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.urbandroid.inline
4- Link Bubble. A handy app that provides a quick way of opening links without leaving the app you are already in.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.linkbubble.license.playstore
5- Launch X. A great way of organizing app on your home screens. I use it in scrolling. Saves a lot of Home page space.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.yuvalsharon.android.launchx.free
Well that is it for now. These are the basic apps that I always use to make life more enjoyable and convenient in my various Android devices. How about you? What do you use and have to install?

I'm surprised to be saying this but Microsoft's Arrow launcher is a treat on the Note 5. Looks classy on the large screen and its focus on usage patterns works quite well for me.

Swiftkey is a MUST!
I came from Blackberry originally, and I got spoiled by the awesome word prediction and learning autocorrect. When I got my first Droid 2, I missed the smarter typing and I searched for a replacement. I bought SwiftKey when it was premium and never looked back. Through a Droid 3, RAZR HD, and now Note 5, it has learned how I type and saved me lots of embarrassment. And since I went premium back in the day, I get no ads. Ever.
If you're a family guy like me, Cozi Family Scheduler is also a must. With 2 teenagers, both spouses working, and all sorts of things to coordinate, Cozi makes it easy for all of us to stay on the same page without trying to flip through shared Google calendars. The widgets are useful on Note 5, but the typeface is very small on widgets.
In Australia currently the nova prime is only 20c I think it's best bargain app. Definitely worth it...been using it to replace touch wiz.

I'm surprised to be saying this but Microsoft's Arrow launcher is a treat on the Note 5. Looks classy on the large screen and its focus on usage patterns works quite well for me.

Nice looking Launcher.

Ever.
I hear good things about SwiftKey. I tried it a few months ago, and never really got a good feel for it myself.
If you're a family guy like me, Cozi Family Scheduler is also a must. A very nice option to keep the screen time under control.

My brother uses and swears by Nova.
One of the reasons I prefer Android over iOS is the way that you can highly customize your phone/tablet to your desires.
Now I know this one also require the hardware...but I do recommend getting one.
I just got my gear vr...and it's really cool. My kids love them. There are a lot of free download too just like in playstore.

There are all kinds of Widgets available for these
Tasker. I freaking love this app. It automates almost everything on my phone:
-Silences my ringer and notification volume when I set the phone face down.
-When I receive a text, my TTS engine says "Sir, you have received a message from %sender" and if the contact isn't stored in my contact list, it replaces the %sender variable with "an unknown person"
-When I leave the house, it turns off my wifi, turns my ringtone and notification volume up, and turns Bluetooth on, but if Bluetooth doesn't connect in 7 minutes, it turns back off again
-When I get to work, it sets my phone on silent and texts my wife one of 5 random messages letting her know I'm at work
-When I get back home, it turns wifi back on and connects, speaks "welcome home, sir" and turns my notification and ringtone volume down a bit
-In the morning when I dismiss my alarm, it speaks one of 3 random "good morning" messages, and then proceeds to read off the weather for the day, tells me how many appointments I have, what they are, and when.
-When I plug headphones in, it displays a popup menu of apps that I use with my headphones (Pandora, youtube, any of my emulators)
-Controls my GPS so that it's only on when I need it, like navigating with Google maps or taking location-tagged photos, and then turns it back off when I'm done
-Reboots my phone once a week to keep the OS fresh.
There is literally nothing you can't do with this app and its plugins. I recommend it for everyone. Super steep learning curve, but there are tons of tutorials on line. 10000% worth the $3 it costs.
easyHome by @Jawomo
With easyHome you don't have to press your homebutton anymore! Just touch it slightly like on screen navigation buttons!!
Experience your Galaxy in a completely new way!
No clicking noise, no hard pressing! Easy, intuitive yet awesome!
Extend the homebutton functionality if you like and lock your phone with a touch!

That was the idea lol. The nerd in me went and found the TTS engine that sounded the most like Iron Man's Jarvis, William from CereProc, and every time I program a speak action, I try and imagine how Jarvis would say it. I wanted my phone to be as much like a personal assistant as I could make it.
I also plan on creating a task so that, when I'm in the car and I receive a text, Jarvis will tell me that a text was received and ask if I want him to read it to me. If I reply "yes" he'll read the message then ask if I want to respond but if I reply "no" he'll ask if I want to be reminded of the text when I'm not driving. If I reply "yes" to responding, He'll listen for me to speak the message and then send it. If I reply "yes" to the reminder, when I get out of the car, he'll say "Sir, you still have # unread text message(s)"
I also want to do something similar with calls.
All you need is Tasker, AutoVoice and maybe AutoInput and AutoNotification.
