Hi there I'm a sammy geek in relation to my mobile had s2 note s3 and just about to get note 2 on Monday however I am a apple ite concerning my tablet
I have had enough of apple and want to know if the note 10.1 is a worthy replacement ?
I use my ipad for sat nav photo editing facebook games and internet
Most important is adobe photoshop which is built into the note 10.1 plus of course that fantastic pen which the ipad doesn't have
I want to know has anyone took the step I'm losing £300 on trade in if I do as I have the 64gb 4g version so want to be sure
How good is the tablet for speed multi tasking watching film and playing music
Any help gratefully received
Thanks

Speed of the Note is one of the fastest tablets I have tried, including the iPad3. Once you start using the stylus and other TouchWiz features (ie. floating video, split screen, floating calculator, etc.) you'll be hooked.
Just wondering, is there a return policy if you decide not to keep the Note?

Sat nav - The Note will be better. You'll have more options for s/w and the front-facing speakers are loud and should be easy to hear. It also supports Glonass.
photo editing - Probably a tie. Depending on the detail you're editing to the Note could win based on the added value of the S-Pen.
facebook - The iPad app is proably better aesthetically but it'll work the same on both devices.
games - Depends on the games.
internet - The Note has the best browsing experience of any Andorid tablet. But I'm guessing the iPad's will still be more fluid but no more functional.
speed - It's the fastest Android tablet available. Because iOS is both so stuctured and limited it tends to be more fluid. But in terms of getting stuff done they should perform the same.
multi tasking - A huge benefit. The clipboard is also more of a scrap book. As you collect things from the web or apps and copy them they remain in the clipboard to be used later. Even after a reboot.
watching film - If you're coming from a retina display iPad you may notice some loss in definition. But the Note's display is great with very accurate color rendering. You can also watch a video in split view while you're doing something else or use Pop-up-play to watch a video while using the tablet normally. I watch a lot of video and am pleased with the display.
playing music - The Note has the same Wolfson DAC that's in the SGS3. Audio reproduction is brilliant. It also has BT 4.0 with aptX support which is a lossless playback method if your BT speakers or headphones support it.

I have an iPad 2 [i didn't see much of an upgrade to the iPad3] and the Note 10.1
I love both of them.
I find this tablet a lot more useful than the iPad.
multi-tasking i great. Not perfect.
watching movies is great [with the stereo].
music... well louder than my iPad.
I have the Note 10.1, my wife has the Ipad3. Due to her liking the Note 10.1 a lot better, we're saving to buy another Note 10.1 and we'll give the Ipad to my daughter.
Neither of us sees a noticeable difference in the screen, but some people do. Realistically, you probably won't note the difference with movies or pics. However, you may notice a difference in small fonts. If you read small fonts in normal use, you may notice a large difference. I HIGHLY recommend comparing screens for yourself. That way you'll know for sure what the resolution difference will mean to you.
For watching movies, the Note 10.1 wins hands down. Because of screen aspect ratios you have a 8.9 inch screen on the Ipad and a 10 inch screen with the Note 10.1. (Given a 16:9 movie.) Combined with the speakers--which are FAR superior on the Note--movie watching is a much better experience with the Note. Same with music, the speakers on the Note just blow the Ipad away.
There's no contest when it comes to photo touch up. The s-pen makes a night and day difference. Selecting areas of the photo with the pen is a game changer.
OK, now the downside to the Note 10.1. There was an update--which got pulled--that makes the Note a much better machine. Smoother with less bugs. With the update my Note runs great, without it I got a little annoyed. The update is in the development section here, so you can still update. However some people--a small minority I believe--have had problems with the update. For some, the pen stopped working. That's probably why Sammy pulled the update. The good news is that we can be sure that Samsung is working on the bugs the pre-update Note has, since they addressed them in the update. Jelly Bean should be along soon. So if you get the Note 10.1 and choose not to update you'll have to live with a few annoying bugs until Jelly Bean is released.
I want to get this tablet mainly for movies & youtube. I know the screen is only 800p, but I have a slow Internet connection so I only tend to watch 720p videos anyway.
How good do youtube and movies look on this display with regards to black level and colours.

This review pretty much sums it up...
"The Note 10.1's display was both a disappointment and a surprise. The display carries a resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels, the same as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 and the Toshiba Excite 10.1. That means no high-pixel density clarity or detail on text or graphics, as you'd find on the Acer Iconia Tab A700, Apple iPad, and Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700.
However, Samsung has clearly done something with this tablet to boost its display performance. The sharpness and color of images is dramatically better than the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, and my high-resolution images in the Google Gallery had sharpness and detail that came close to what you'd find on the high-pixel density displays. (Another observation: Android tablets typically struggle with skin tones, but the Note 10.1 produced some of the most realistic skin tones I've seen.) Text clarity was better than than on the abysmal Galaxy Tab 2, but it couldn't hold a candle to what you'd get on any of the high-pixel density displays."
I think it's awesome in my opinion. I live the dual speakers having forward. It's now my go to to watch series on in bed.

I thunk this tablet may have the best 1280x800 HD displays out there. REMEMBER. 720P is HD also The display combined with great stereo speakers make this an excellent tablet for media consumption and viewing/listening.
I watch a lot of movies on it. I really don't have an issue with the screen and the sound is impressive.

If you've watched 1080p videos and 720p for example a 15 inch laptop I'd say that you didn't see almost any difference. Of course the screen resolution itself is more important than the videos resolution, but then think about the size, which is minus 5 inches of that laptops screen I find this tablets screen very good. Sometimes I have to zoom webpages but that's only when using splitscreen. So yes it's verygood, but it could be better of course

Very Good. Breathtaking and inspiring.
</thread>
The screen is accurately calibrated according to "Display Tester" by gombosdev (free in the Play Store). I have no tablet or phone (LCD or AMOLED) that can pass all of the app's gamma tests -- except the 10.1 Note (with latest update).
I was really confused when I wanted to buy a tablet. I was confused between both the New iPad and the Samsung Note 10.1
I was a big Apple fan until I got my hands on this amazing, inspiring, incredible, and lovely Note.
It is seriously one of the best devices I ever had.
Web browsing, youtube videos, movies, gaming, studies, and so much more! "I was actually watching SuperNatural's new episode on my Note10.1 today."
Word of advice: GET IT !
So... I got my greedy little hands on a GT-I9505 and I have it until Monday.
Feel free to write what you want me to test on it (software, benchmarks, games, features... you name it), I'll make a quick video and publish it somewhere on Wednesday (sorry, but until it's launched... I can't publish any video / pictures ). If you have small questions like "how does it feel in hand" or stuff like that, that doesn't require a video / image... I can reply, no problem.
Looking forward to your requests
Alex.
- Can we change the settings background to black?
- could you see individual pixels by looking very close the screen?
- how good is adobe rgb color, is it really true color?
Sent from my GT-I9300
So, yeah, how does it feel in the hand? How does the display compare to previous AMOLEDs? How's the speaker?
@dragon135
- My settings are black, but I couldn't quite find where to change white / black for now. I'll keep looking
- No, I personally can't see them. I'll try some macro photos of the screen, not sure if they'll work, but mainly the answer is no
- The colors are vivid, I'll tell you that. I'll check out some movies / pics and let you know more.
@ghill55
It's pretty identical to the SIII. The edges are a bit sharp, not rounded like the ones on the SIII, and the home button is more "lifted" from the face. But other than that, size wise and weight wise, they're 95% identical. S4 being a bit longer, but slimmer. I like how it feels in hand (but then again, I have pretty big hands). The AMOLED is nice, vivid colors and all, I'll do some tests and see how it looks while watching movies & playing games. Haven't had a chance to test the speaker, but from the ringtones, it seems to be a bit louder than the SIII.
Which color do you have? If white can you say if there is light bleeding in rgb led and button led?
《posted from s3》
I have the white version. Light bleeding from the buttons - similar to the one on the SIII. I'll check for the LED as well when I install LightFlow.
antutu benchmarks?
I'll make a video with the Antutu and release it on Wednesday.

Sure, some all-day camera testing would be nice, you could try out some 3rd party apps like Camera Zoom FX etc. You may join the review thread here or keep it separately, both are cool.

Test call quality, if they can hear u well and if you can hear them well.. According to phonearena its mediocre, or bad.. Maybe hard to test this but =)
I would like you to explore new things like ir blaster ( do check its compatibility with home appliances), s health, and other smart features and just let us know how much these are useful

Primarily want to know your input on the screen in reference to the S3... in sunlight, brightness, etc.
Hi,
What's the furthest away from the screen you can be in order to still be able operate the touch free preview?

Another vote here for some macro shots of the new screen compared to GS3.
If you could run 2 games (Modern Combat 4 and Real Racing 3) and post videos of you playing them so we can see frame rates, if possible that would be very much appreciated, I could add them to my gameplay thread along with the Exynos version.
Try to Root it (check if you have firmware XXUAMD2 before you proceed and wait until late Sunday!) LOL

Extensive night shots!!!
Preferably a few shots with Auto mode and few with night mode
I would love to see a video from the camera in 1080p with in and out zooming
Please could you test the following....
Glbenchmark 2.7, showing the full results, low level tests etc.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...mark27&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd
Using Chrome Android Beta 27

Mozilla Kraken
http://krakenbenchmark.mozilla.org/
Google Octane
http://octane-benchmark.googlecode.com/svn/latest/index.html
Also, pls take a look at my thread on the CPU Binning of Qualcomm GS4s, does my method work for your non-rooted device, if not I'll have to change the method to old-school ADB...

Thanks mucho..
Can you test these 2 things?
When you pull down the notification bar and have the phone on auto brightness, can you slide the bar left and right and it stays on Auto or does it switch to manual right away?
When you are watching a video can you take snapshots of the screen like on the Note 2 or HTC One X?
Thanks!

G'day All,
Hold onto your hats! Here's a captivating video demonstrating the sheer power of the Galaxy Note III.
The video compares the phone with a variety of devices using Augmented Reality rendering and graphics performance benchmarks in the most INTERESTING way possible. Enjoy!
Next time you look down at the phone in your hand, just be aware of what you're holding!
impressive stuff on this new GPU, really makes my old Note II seem so underpowered now
On a side note, this video made me realize I have to leave RDIO now to gt some more obscure music into my collection (almost none of the songs at the end of that video showed up). Google play again?

Cheers Samzebian,
The sheer increase in GPU performance since the Note II was one of the things that struck me the most during my testing.
In relation to your side note, you're not going to find any of that music in mainstream areas. Your best bets are Bandcamp, Soundcloud and Youtube!
Thanks for watching mate!
After watching the video it makes me sooo happy I got the Note 3 a.k.a The Beast!!

Turn to brightness to max and switch to 2k quality, and prepare to be blown away by the eye candy.
Quite a nice idea!
I love the clarity this display provides
One trailer that I find quite impressive is this one - it's a demo for Samsung's UHD-TVs: https://youtu.be/AYl7oLNP5Wg
The crowded scenes really come alive on my Edge

It's not only the clarity, it's the pictures popping out of the screen. Make a comparison with an iPhone or any device really, the display on this thing is ridiculous.

How do I turn 2k on? Quality goes max 720p on the youtube vid.
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
Hmm, that's strange. Are you using the latest YouTube version available on play store? When you press the 3 dots in the corner of the video you should have a quality setting where you can select the resolution. If the video was filmed in a higher resolution and your screen supports it, you should be able to select it. For example the videos I posted were filmed in 4k, but our screen can't see higher then 2k, so you should be able to select 2k, which is 1440p.
When I use Firefox browser to browse YouTube and choose desktop mode, I can choose the quality to 4K

It was opening through Tapatalk's built in youtube so 720p was max but when I used the youtube app itself I was able to watch the movie in 2k. All I have to say is wow, especially to the second video.
