[Q] Any recomendations for SMS and Camera Tweaks? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I installed Resurrection Remix ROM on my Samsung Galaxy S 4G, along with Dsexton's Adrenaline Injector. Pretty sweet!!
What I was wondering if there were any other tweaks available to flash, for my messaging and camera features.
My messaging will only let me send limited sms'. That is to say, it won't send LONG sms'. It only will let me send 1 "page" at a time. So I have to cut my long sms' into mutiple messages.
Also, secondly, are there any camera tweaks out there to flash? On this ROM, there doesn't seem to be many "options" and/or features to pick from when in "camera" mode. Just basically standard.. picture.. or panorama. No other features that I can find.
Thank you in advance.

Try flashing a different modem for help with the long text message.

Thank you for your response..

Changing modems DID help the long text problem.
Any suggestions as far as Camera Tweaks??

Desexton had a camera mod tweak out too.

Not a 100% sure if compatible with that Rom though. Read the thread I linked for more info. I would think that it was already in that Rom.

That is just sthing to improve the image quality tho. From what I read that the OP wanted to find a tweak or mod that enable more options in stock camera which is not possible nor existed. My advice: if u want more effect, use 3rd party camera app. Stock camera app of aosp roms was built based on what the libs support hence will not be able to expand over the limit (I mean the sets of options based on the hardware limits).

[Tweaks][KD1][UPDATED 9/2] Sduvick's Big Thread O' Tweaks v1.1 - PDT

As I continue to make random tweaks, they will be posted here.
All of these tweaks are built on KD1, you have been warned. It's possible that they may work on KG2, but I have not tested them, and it's very likely that they won't work on KG2.
All Tweaks v1.1 (Volume Tweak, Settings, Notifications, Joystick & 10 Second Notification LED Flash tweaks ):
http://www.multiupload.com/75796T1NQS
Volume Rocker vibrate and silent tweak
All credit to the original patch from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016556, I just added it to the framework.jar from KD1. This adds both the silent and vibrate options to your volume rocker, ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE VIBRATE SET TO "ALWAYS" OR "ONLY IN SILENT MODE" IN SETTINGS.
AS FAR AS I KNOW, THIS ONLY WORKS ON KD1.
I'm using/working on/with GingerClonev2, therefore I'm working with a KD1 framework.jar. If people care enough, I suppose I could patch the KG2 framework as well, but as of now it's bedtime, as I have to get up for work in the morning.
This should be CWM flashable, just flash and go, don't wipe, don't pass go, don't collect $200 (even if you really want to).

Full Bat & USB DEBUG & Joystick enable Tweak
This next tweak was just random stuff that bothered me. This will disable the "full battery notification" as well as the constant USB debugging notification.
Also, as the only real improvement with KG2 was the option to disable the optical joystick, this integrates that option into KD1, if you want to use this option, be sure to flash the Settings app below to control that option as well.
This may or may not work on KG2, if you're on KG2, test at your own risk, make a backup first

Settings Tweak
This is a settings.apk that has the DriveSmart, Notification Popup, Theme Manager, and Software Update menus removed, allowing the safe removal of those apps, as they are not really necessary/useful
This is a modified version of the KG2 settings, as it integrates the Joystick disable option, therefore it *should* work on KD1 and KG2. currently running on KD1.

10 Second LED Flash Tweak
As Samsung decided we only needed 1 min reminders that we have something to look at, many people (including myself) missed notifications frequently. Well no more! This tweak will change the flash rate from 1 min to 10 seconds.

Dw: I need more constructive criticism than that. What specifically should I change to make it more organized?
i think he means like put each section in a gray box so it looks more organized by section instead of writing [volume].......[\volume] but i think its rather organized but could be a little better. if you just take the time to read then you can understand whats going on ha
I'l do that when I get home, was trying to post last night before bed

Turns out, my brain doesn't really function very well after a long day, I couldn't find the box button, not realizing it was the quote box. I'll update the OP, thanks for the suggestions, they are noted and appreciated.
EDIT: OP updated with quote boxes, should be better organized now.
If there are any experienced kernel devs who wanna help out with porting the SK4G Kernel to 2.6.35, that would make CM much easier to port.
How do I install the settings tweaks in order to enable the option to disable the optical trackpad?
You can either flash the full package, or the joystick/bat/usb debugging and settings tweaks from the OP

I tried that, I can't find the joystick setting. I'm using a stock ROM that I ODIN'd last night back to KG1. Could that be why? Where would I find the setting if it's there? Perhaps I'm just not noticing it.
There's only KD1 and KG2, there's no KG1. It should be in Settings>Accessibility>Enable optical joystick
I have a request. The stock messaging app, (and notification popups and SocialNetworkingService Composer) doesn't recognize the enter key as well, the send key. Can that be fixed (even if just on one of them)?
I don't use any of those pieces, can you describe the issue in more detail? What should happen, and what does happen?
It's the stock messaging app on the stock kd1 firmware that ships with the sidekick. Basically, pressing the enter key on the keyboard gives a newline, instead of sending the message.

I believe you can enable that option in the settings of the stock messaging app.. but I'm using aosp MMS so I'm not positive
Edit: yeaa i dont think the sidekick messaging app allows that..
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA App
I dont know if this can be done though the sidekick has smooth transitions and such just the only thing that looks choppy is the notifications bar when you pull down which does seem a little choppy while other devices are smooth as butter. can this be tweaked on the sidekick?
Just curious... why would anyone ever want to disable the track-pad "joystick"? I mean, maybe if the keyboard had arrow keys like it should, but even then, it's pretty recessed and I've never hit it by accident, so why?

Contacts and SMS apps - CM9

I've noticed the contacts and SMS app are different in CM9 versus most of the other roms on here. In particular they seem somewhat limited in capability by comparison (can't join contacts, etc), and the colour scheme is a disgusting white+blue.
Anyone know why this is and what exactly is different? Also, Is there a way to replace these system apps?

Thanks for the tip, looks interesting, I might try this out later.
But actually I was more just curious as to the difference between contact/sms in CM9 vs other roms. Being somewhat of a noob my thought is that the others are Samsung specific and the apps in CM9 are not.
The contacts/sms apps found in other roms seems to be more powerful and the colours somewhat match the rest of the interface. Whereas the apps found in CM9 seem to be very basic in terms of functionality and the colours are hideous.
If someone can fill me in, that'd be great.

Yeah, the one in cm9 is the aosp messaging. And the ones you see in most other roms are samsung messaging apps.
The Theme Chooser in AOKP and CM9 let you change quite a bit of the appearance of the Rom. Then you can find other mods to change mms, etc.

I was checking out the AromaKoK mod linked in the first response and ended up installing the inverted version of gapps using it (Among other changes, this mod really is great) which made the colour scheme for contacts/sms app more tolerable.
Just wish there was a "Join contact" feature, but oh well.
Thanks to everyone who responded to clarify.
if you save your contacts via google you can merge them on googles webpage so that they stay merged. just go to google/gmail click on the gmail tab and click contacts you can merge them there sync them to your phone and never have to merge them again
Good call, will give that a try.
Also apparently there is a join/merge contact option in AOSP gapps I am just blind. You have to select the contact > Menu > Edit > Menu > Join Contact
A few extra steps compared to what I am used to but at least it's there.

I couldn't figure out what in the world was up with the camera. The developer said it worked great on the Supersonic except for the FFC. The CM9.1 I used as a base has an impeccable camera as well as 1080p! That's why I picked out a couple that have used before as add-ons to stand in until I MIGHT come up with something.
Other than that....I'm loving it myself! I'm glad you are too. Wait till she settles in...it looks like it's going to be sweet on battery usage too.:good:
As far as tracking errors go anything else will probably be related to the port. In that case it's probably going to be beyond my ameturish control. LOL

It's just WAY too powerful a ROM not to put it out there just because the camera we're used to seems to be borked at the time. If you come back to it, try those. Like I said though....I know how it goes.

In my case, the main camera gives me a brief peek at the "viewfinder" image then puts up a black rectangle that covers the entire image. You can clearly see the rectangle's outline a fraction of a second before it covers all the preview area.
The other camera shortcuts just FC, or give me a combo settings screen THEN FCs when camera is chosen.
The only other negative comment I have is that I miss the JB navigation bar. One of our phones has a glitchy BACK button, and Nav Bar compensates for that. (*_-)
Other than that, everything I noticed is good--I'm blown away by this ROM! It's quick, responsive, and smooth.
Thanks, Weekends!
BTW: clean install, several minutes "resting" after flash.

Yeah....in my haste I overlooked carrying some necessary libraries over with those camera apps. You should be able to just go into the market & uninstall/reinstall them and be good to go. OR just use Root Cleaner included in the ROM & then do the Market reinstall. You can also uninstall the main Camera with Root Cleaner. My bad. The Nav Bar just wasn't available in this one & I haven't yet learned how to get it in there. Sorry Jesterfell.

[ROM] Slim Sense to GE/AOSP 4.2.2

This ROM is meant to be the slimmest ROM possible built on top of Sense. I've tried to strip out everything that isn't needed to reduce it down to the minimum amount. I've also made it a mix between GE/AOSP and Sense. To help get maximum battery (and better looks imo) I've swapped the SystemUI.apk out to tyler's GE on Sense SystemUI.apk.
I'm also trying to set it up so both GE and Sense apps can be used and you can choose which you want.
Every app which works on the stock HTC one firmware works fine here.
Currently as the ROM stands it is:
Under 400MB (it's about 380MB).
Uses Trebuchet launcher from CM
Stripped out a bunch of Sense/HTC Bloatware (pretty much anything i found non-essential)
Uses AOSP Lockscreen (auto unlocks for calls, allows widgets)
Has both HTC Camera/Gallery and GE Camera/Gallery
Has both HTC Clock and GE Clock
The only google app installed by default is the playstore, as the rest can be downloaded from it
Known Bugs
After completing the Setup you need to open settings -> click mobile data -> Access Point Names-> and then select your APN
3G/LTE/4G Icons do not show, you still get LTE (you may need to download an App from playstore to enable LTE, any that let you access the phone settings should work such as this one)
Only the GE Phone Works (It makes and receives calls fine)Sense Phone can't place calls (the app fully functions but doesn't make calls, need to find a way to fix this still, if anyone knows how to please let me know)
Currently battery percentage in the status bar isn't working
Feel free to ask any quests/indicate any bugs and i'll try looking into them when I get time.
Version 1.1 Fixed the bug where when incoming calls were answered nobody could be heard

Xtheme Engine themes work with GE
This is exactly what i do with any Sense ROM i install anyway. I go to Titanium backup and spend a half hour uninstalling all the crap thats not needed to strip it right down so that the only things left that HTC stuff are the IR blaster since i lost the remote to my TV, and the camera functionality. I always use the codex sound mod instead of beats anyhow too. This awesome! Perfect!
Does it use stock kernel?

Flashed this 5 min ago, did a test call to my girlfriend's phone, it was ringing.
But yeah, I think I finally might have found the Rom I'm sticking with. Excellent work.
If I can make one possible request for the future. GE MMS instead of sense. ?
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
Edit; it does have the aosp bug where you can't hear the caller after you answer, so you have to call back.

You can;t make calls from the Sense Dialer. You need to use the GE one which is included.

All you have to do is use the AOSP dialer. Works fine from there.

Uses whichever one was included in the ROM mike put out.
Yeah I've been somewhat busy and been unable to look into it. I'll have some time tomorrow and will hopefully fix it then.

Cool, that will be stock then.
Is there anyway to get Swedish Lang for the keyboard? Thanks in advance

Ugh.. I was super hyped about this ROM until I read this. I have too many people call me and this wouldn't be cool at all.
There is no known fix for this? I cant imagine everyone using CM would be cool with this issue.
Need to keep this alive.
Anyone else confirm the call bug? So the sense dialer doesn't work.. i could care less about that. Just as long as the GE dialer is there and takes calls.

As i said the CSC features names are Samsung ones not my own translation, so if you don't understand what a key should do, just do NOT touch it and post it here, maybe someone can explain it.

this is just great.. It might turn out helpful in those using Korean Stock Roms where there are several limitations...
Wanam, your contributions are all practical and worthy... cheers:highfive:
Amazing app. Thank you. One thing: I try to activate desktop view as default changing false with true and, after a reboot, it didn't work. I have an n9005 with stock odexed 4.4.2 ugng1.
@wanam when we search clock etc we find alot of options but we should put number/word can u update with optional like number/word means like 1/true or false etc mate & thanks for this useful App
Dear Bad Luck... Let’s break UP.

Maybe because this feature is checked only the first time you open the browser, try to clear its data.
Note that some of those csc features may NOT work as expected, Samsung keep adding new features but some them can be still broken, and some old ones that worked on older devices may aslo become broken (ex email black/white background).
So if any of the features did not work no need to blame the App.

Actually it is NOT possible, Samsung store all the feature as hash table of String, i still can do some inaccurate parsing and detect the type of filled ones but there is no way i can get the type of an empty csc feature, that's why i prefer to keep it open type.
great wanam, is it based on csc features found in framework2.jar?

Yes and framework.jar on Lollipop.
Under Camera, set Shutter Sound Menu to TRUE.
You now have a toggle option for camera shutter sounds, neat!
Wounder why they kept this really usefull option hidden?

Maybe because it's broken on some Samsung devices/Roms.

Good, this app and your exposed app should be integrated by samsung in their stock roms . You did a great job , plenty of features and options collected in one place. it is a masterpiece application . congratulations !

Probably because some jurisdictions require the shutter sound and it is technically "illegal" to disable it in those places. I'm sure someone somewhere would blame Samsung for making it too easy to commit such a crime!
Thanks!
I am able to disable camera shutter sound by setting "TRUE" on Camera_ShutterSoundMenu
