Stock to 4.3? - Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G

So I finally convinced my friend to root his phone and flash a ROM, and I have done it on two other phones, but I don't know how to do it exactly on this phone and what I need downloaded to do it. My question is, is there a guide to get from stock 2.3.6 to 4.3?

Here's a pretty thorough root method similar to if not the same as the one I used.
http://www.android.gs/root-galaxy-s-blaze-4g/
After you root you're gonna need a 4.3 recovery.
http://d-h.st/Osd
Thank KTempleton for that one.
And 4.3 Gapps
http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip
And of course the 4.3 ROM of your choice
Boot into recovery and make a nandroid back up.
Flash CWM package you just downloaded.
Reboot system then reboot back into 4.3 recovery.
Do a full wipe. That's data reset, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik and format system (under mounts and storage)
Flash ROM then flash gapps.
If all steps are followed properly you will be running 4.3 in no time.
Make sure to read all instructions contained in the OP of the ROM you wish to download.
Please do not hold me responsible if anything goes wrong
Happy flashing.

You forgot you need a custom recovery to flash KTs 4.3 recovery. or it must be pulled from the zip and manually flashed.
To make it easy, either follow Skywalker's root thread or go to the Blaze bible thread an use KOnane's GB Odin root thread at the top. After you have root, use Rom manager to flash the latest cwm, which will work with 4.3. Then go ahead with the Sky's above and backup, wipes and flashing your favorite rom.

Is there an Odin package to bring the phone back to stock if need be?

There is everything you could need for the blaze. This little phone has a lot of support.
Bible thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574556 there is some newer stuff so ask or check out the dev section.
Odin restock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591601
But there is a new way to restock right back to then latest ICS. It is in the last few pages of the restock thread. Here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44626072&postcount=117

Posted these instructions on quite a few threads but here you go...
So first register at www.sammobile.com, then search SGH-T769 under firmware and download the August 2012 ICS or The Feb 2013 ICS Firmware, wait for the download to finish (took me 30 minutes) then extract which ever firmware zip you downloaded then using Odin click on PDA and select the .md5 file which is located in the extracted ICS Firmware Folder that you've downloaded from sammobile.com
Download the PIT file here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1919228
Click on PIT in Odin and then select the one downloaded from the link above
then make sure re-partition isn't checked and start the flashing process after it is done flashing and reboots you'll have stock ics to root it simply follow the instructions over at the root ics stock thread found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1919228
This will flash a custom recovery and once the recovery is flashed using Odin reboot into recovery and flash the superuser.zip then you'll have Rooted Stock ICS Firmware
*BOOT LOOP MIGHT OCCUR*
To fix boot looping after flashing stock ICS just boot into stock recovery and wipe data and cache then reboot or on custom recover wipe cache and dalvik cache reboot and you're good to go.
If I helped you in anyway don't be afraid to hit thanks!

Yes, if you have root and select the proper device when prompted.

And once I have the cwm recovery, I can go straight to a 4.3 ROM, right?

Tommyboy is right. Though I will say as they are far from perfect they are stable enough to be daily drivers. I've been running 4.3 for a while now, and the biggest, or most annoying issue I have faced is wake screen delay. I can't stand it lol. Also speakerphone is a big one for some people. But yea, I've had no serious issues with any 4.3 rom. Except for that one time when I started using philz touch and it just wasn't doing it for me... But that is beside the point lol Try BeanStalk or the newly posted PACMAN ROM. Or CARBONrom. Or Dirty Unicorns. Or CM10.2 You can't go wrong lol.

Just make sure you follow the proper steps, holmes. Also be aware that if you have 4.3 recovery and you try to flash 4.2.x or 4.1.x or anything other than 4.3...
You're gonna have a bad time

sounds like he lost root. You will probably need to use heimdall one click to get back to kj6. Use the one I packaged that can be found here.

Then flash to ICS and then to the rom you want.
I had this happen to me when I tried to flash CNA b4. No matter what I did I could not get out of recovery when trying to flash. I thought for sure I would have to go back to stock but I just fully wiped and reinstalled AOKP with no problems. It may have been a bad download or something but I had that issue as well.

Starting my phone after 2 months

2 months back, I upgraded my phone to S3, so I kept my infuse aside. Today morning when I tried to switch on the phone, phone doesnt start.
It was perfectly working before I upgraded my phone.
Is it bricked? I am able to open CWM, I wiped cache, dalvik cache and factory rest through CWM. Is there any other way to get back instead of download mode. my last destination is download mode, go back to stock. but just checking, if there is any other way, before trying it.
TIA

yeah if you had adb access there is a chance you could identify the issue but the idea that you'd be able to correct it is iffy. but if you hadn't already done a reset you could potentially use adb to backup your data and apps before a reflash. anyway I think you will like the selection of jelly bean ROMs. the infuse might not be a galaxy s3 but with cm10 its not so bad.

Well if your phone wasn't rooted or didn't have recovery, how did you try flashing ICS, start over using a back to stock, then follow instructions to a t, on root, recovery, boot loaders, and finally go for a jb ROM there are a few very stable ones available.

this to goto stock, then flash boot loaders.
After flashing boot loaders, I am trying to root the device using super oneclick, then I am stuck on the screenshot shown in my previous post.
If you have clockwork mod recovery you don't need to root. Find an ICS ROM and flash away. BUT FOLLOW ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE OP. Not shouting at you just emphasizing the importance of it.

[Q]How to flash stock ROM from Samsung site

I tried doing some research but with no luck. I wanted to ask if there is a way to flash a completely stock ROM I download straight from the Samsung site using maybe CWM or Odin. And how would I go on to have it rooted? I've just been having issues even with the stock debloated ROM available so I want to give this a try. Thanks in advance for any feedback and help

The only thing I will add here is that you don't need the .pit file (it also eliminates the chance of accidental re-partition). Just use the .tar.md5 file as the pda and flash. Also, there isn't any chance of boot looping when flashing the file from the samfirmware site. First boot will take up to 10 minutes.

[q] please help

Hello everyone i currently flashed my sph-d710 or sprint gaxy s2 to a kit kat rom. now first i tried flashing back to other roms, nothing lower then jb and i cant. so i was thinking of flashing a rom and tried backing up through rom manager and it brought me into recovery with an error. My a.d.d. having ass deleted the villumanti by accident b4 the error and i wiped/reset everything including cache during the error, and couldnt flash anything (i tried 3 roms). IN THE END I REBOOTED ALL WAS THERE.I think i have an idea of what happened. I think it could be due to a modem issue e.g. downgrading from kit kat to jb. Should i flash a custom kernel thru mobile odin and get the recovery from there(IM RUNNING THE LATEST CWM I BELIEVE)or should i boot into recovery wipe all data cache reboot recovery and flash the modem, reboot into recovery again proceed as normal. Also what modem should i use. If ive been to vague or you need any more info let me know. P.s. Thanks a lot man! I was rooting my mom's phone (we all got blazes... Go figure!) and ran into an issue when I ran into a bootloop the first time I tried rooting... When I tried undoing the softbrick, I accidentally loaded the gingerbread stock back on, rather than ICS, and found that her SD partition was inaccessible. Thankfully, using the stock ICS, I reverted back to it and then rooted again when done with that. She's now on ProvisionMod, and its running smooth as butter! I was hesitant to put her on Kitkat cuz I know the camera bug still needs to be worked out... But when that's fixed, I plan on putting her on something like CM 11 when its all said and done. Thanks to all the helpful developers who made all of this possible! You guys are the best!!!!!
