[Q] S-Off - SuperCID on HTC One S (S4) - HTC One S

Hi, I just unlocked the booloader and rooted my One S (S4). Now I'd like to install a custom rom (Maximus HD) and it says I must have the s(security) off. Mine of course is on. So I looked up how to turn it off and it says I need superCID, which I dont think I have. My Hboot is 2.15. Does anyone of you guys know how to get superCID on the HTC One S, if so, I WOULD APPRECIATE IT A LOT! Also I would like some feedback on Maximus HD.
Thanks!
UPDATE: I have the all-in-one toolkit for HTC One S and there's an option that says S-OFF and it has steps below, is there any tutorial or video tutorial (better) I can follow and get it right? And is it safe?
Thanks again!

If you are not an expert the chance to brick your device with S-off is way higher than with S-on and it's not correct that you need S-off to burn a custom ROM.
I use DarkJelly that has averything in and can install the kernel with S-on, for example.
If you still want to try, take a look at the second thread of the deveolpers forum that has a lot of useful information. Not all of them is updated, but it's a good starting point.

This is not for beginners, be very careful you can brick your phone.

Thanks guys! i think I've changed my mind, I won't mess with the supercid and s-on, and I'll try flashing the Dark Jelly S rom.

In the post you sent me (Black Jelly) it says this:
Note: From Build 29.1 the kernel is updated to 3.4, this means:
You have to install a JB RUU or install the needed firmware files, to be able to boot the rom!
You can find a guide at post #2
To install a JB RUU, I need to have my S-OFFed, so I went and looked for older builds and found build 29, will it work on my one s with the s-on? Which build do(or did) you have?
Thanks

Did you get lucky installing custom ROM on your HTC One S, if not try MagicROM which doesn't need S-Off, its having an option to install with S-On.

Yup, it worked! Its awesome and ill give that rom a try! Thanks

[GUIDE][2.3.4 OFFICIAL HTC S-OFF ROOT] Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.45.401.2-1.35.401.1_P2

THIS IS FOR UNBRANDED 401 PHONES ONLY! IT MIGHT WORK FOR OTHERS BUT I WOULD RATHER NOT TRY...
Update 2011/08/14
Added more information and details
Renamed thread into GUIDE
Using this guide will reset your device into a vanilla 2.3.4 HTC Sensation phone. Your SD-Card wont be touched and you will have S-OFF and root. This will lock your bootloader but that should not be a problem since you are still S-OFF and can flash whatever you want - except the bootloader. I tested these steps and i have a 2.3.4 401 Sensation with Locked HBOOT, S-OFF and root.
If you want S-OFF & ROOT on the latest HTC 2.3.4 ROM follow the steps:
1) Backup
2) Get S-OFF on 2.3.3 (Guide Thread)
3) Recover your phone with original 2.3.3 Update
http://www.filefactory.com/file/cc03797/n/RUU_Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.35.401.1_Radio_10.43a.900 7.00U_10.51.9007.27_M3_release_198179_signed.exe
4) Update to 2.3.4 via "Over The Air" (OTA) or using OpenRecovery (OR). I did not use the OR-Method but you can find a lot of information about here. I do not advertise any guides for the OR-method since i did not test them myself.
4) Execute step 2.1 to 2.6 from the Sensation Guide (Guide Thread)
5) Get root again: Sensation Guide 3.1 to 3.12 (Guide Thread)
Have fun!

How? Can some please explain step by step?
Thanks
anyone have a change log? google failed me for once in my life
The 2.3.4 update include an new hboot Version 1.18...
Are u sure that u can install cwm and root the phone again after applying the update?
I think u will be s-on again after the hboot get changed...
Everything I'm reading (the two other threads about this update) says the above method will NOT work. I don't think the OP even tried. Wait for a real dev to cook this up.

Oh boy Some of use knew this was gonna happen
do not flash this to a stock rooted rom - it will **** it up - wait for your favourite dev to update their rom
flashing this will give you the new locked htc bootloader and you will not be s-off anymore (even though it still says you are)
it's taken me nearly 3 hours to get back to normal

Hi all,
I've just done this update
Backup with Titanium
Reflash with 2.3.3 stock ROM (my Sensation was already S-Off)
OTA update to 2.3.4
ClockWork Recovery
Root
Restore with Titanium
Reboot and that's it
No OTA
I did exactly like shown in the first post, but i wont get the update ota. It sais that my phone is actually actual.
Could I have done something wrong?
Got the Sensation from T-mobile -> debrandet it like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193033
And used the RUU version from the first post.
Thanks
done as suggested - works fine for me!
I was off this weekend.
I posted this howto cause i did it with my phone. Whyever would i post a guide when it does not work?!

no - i did not try to.
I am pretty happy with my phone right now. Fast and long battery pack - replaced Sense with LP.
When testing the early (pre-soff) custom roms and test recoverys I had to flash stock RUUs a couple of times.
To get the phone back into a decent state I needed to pg58 flash eng&unsecured boot then root and fastboot recovery.
Can't for the life of me think why anyone would s-off their phone then install stock/ota for any reason (bar repair). It's like buying a track day race car, shouting "look what I've got" then pushing it around rather than thrashing it.

If you just flash the new hboot, it will say lock at the top of the bootloader screen. But you should be able to flash eng hboot, cause I just tried it.

Thanks. That's what I thought. I removed the hboot from the OTA before flashing it so couldn't confirm for myself. There's been a lot of conflicting information about whether phones are still S-OFF after running the unmodified OTA but it appears that they are. I only ran the RUU then OTA so I could have a backup of a stock 1.45 system.img.

But you can only install ROMS with a 3.32 base(latest ICS)
So,6.6.2 is OK

Hi,
Try THIS ONE
Still says wrong image....
My cid num, got with adb, is: VODAP102.
Should I insert it in android-info?
Should I super cid the phone before cwm?
Youre gonna have to unlock your bootloader by using htc's official method (google it). Then youll be able to install CWM and whatever else. There are limitations, theres a good guide in the development section about htc official bootloader unlocker. Read that before attempting.

Yes you will have to use the HTC Dev method right now if you want to flash a custom ICS ROM being as those are the only ones you will be able to flash with the Hboot you have. But know this ahead of time the HYC De. Unlock is very different then the Revolutionary unlock. Click the link in my sig to learn mote about the HTc Dev unlock and what it allows you to do. But if I was you I would just wait until Revolutionary supports Hboot 1.27.0000, or someone comes up with a Hboot downgrade for the Sensation cause the HTC Dev method does not fully unlock all portitions except the radio portition like Revolutionary does. Plus it leaves evidence your bootloader has been unlocked so HTC can say your warranty is void. Check out this post to as it gives a little more insight on HTC Dev unlock.
So to root the device I have to CWM it, to CWM it I need to unlock the bootloader?
But, If not rooted, unlocked nor CWModded, can I just install ARHD?
Ok, let's take it the other way round:
My phone is locked, hboot 1.27.0000, S-on, cid VODAP102 and not rooted, but last official stock ics.
Now I want to install last ARHD, what should I do and how??

To flash AHRD you will have to have a unlocked bootloader, either by HTC Dev method or by Revolutionary method. Now as stated by you, malybru, and myself we all know Revolutionary is not compatible with Hboot 1.27.0000 (as of right now), which your device currently has. So this leaves only the HTC Dev method. Now I personally agree with others here on XDA, I would normally stay far away from unlocking via HTC Dev. But seeing as you bought your Sensation new with Hboot 1.27.0000, you really have no other alternative but to wait for Revolutionary to update or for some other means of unlocking becomes available. Also if you do manage to downgrade your Hboot you will have to use HTC Dev to do it.
Now I am in no way saying you should use HTC Dev, nor am I advocating HTC Dev. I am just trying to inform you. What you do with your device is your choice and your choice only. But what ever you do, please post back here with your decision and if applicable any results.
Also if you was wondering why you have to use HT Dev to downgrade Hboot, read this post. Yeah I know it is for GB ROMs but I imagine the same probably holds true for ICS. I mean it is the HTC Dev unlock that allowsyou to downgrade in that senario. But what do I know.

Sure, exploit H.Boot 1.27.0000 for S-Off is revolution, new model of HTC phone is same like HTC_One
****ing S-ON policy HTC because you total locked us
And that is why HTC always following behind Samsung nowadays
I'm waiting XDA revolution
Hi,
I'm new to this forum and new nothing about rooting until a few days ago...quickly discovered the fact that Revolution does not support 1.27.
I unlocked with HTC DEV, ran recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.0.9-pyramid.img using Fastboot CLI.
After that I backed up my stock Vodafone ICS ROM using CWM then switched to the XDA guide for rooting with su-2.3.6.3 and followed rest of XDA guides for installing a ROM (really useful guides - Thanks!!)
Within an hour I had gone from stock Vodafone ICS to Virtuous Inquisition-v4.0.1
I'll admit I got hooked up on flashing recovery and was given some guidance by a friendly soul but figured the rest out from this forum..

Hi, deltateam
I just finished S-OFF-ing my Desire S, HBOOT 2.00.0002. It took me 3 days for all the reading, searching, trying and failing, etc. So I think this might be of use for you.
The link for ENG HBOOT in the method you're linking to in the first post, is outdated. So here's what I have done:
I used this method. But here is some additional info.
After completing step 8 I found that I can't root it with SuperOneClick, so I S-OFFed it with Revolutionary first. After doing this you should have a S-OFFed device with HBOOT 0.98.0000 (or 0002, depending on which RUU you chose to downgrade to).
You can now successfully root it with SuperOneClick. Do NOT restart your phone. Restarting it in Recovery is not needed.
The next step links to the same method you linked to in the first post but as I said, the link there is outdated. So I found this post. It's basically the same thing but it has ENG HBOOT attached to it and it's the same as the one from zumodrive - I compared the md5sums. :cyclops:
After completing step 10 and restarting to bootloader you should now see that you have S-OFFed ENG HBOOT 2.00.002. You may want to flash the recovery again as (most likely) Revolutionary flashed its own recovery.
Also, you can still boot the old ROM, which you used for the HBOOT downgrade but of course you should flash new ROM soon. You may also update the RADIO to more recent one as the old RUU downgraded it and the Fallout ROM doesn't have a radio included.
Good luck with the ROM and I hope this helped

Sorry for the misunderstanding. Yes, this is what I meant - an official RUU Rom will change the RADIO but if you update it after that and flash a new custom Rom, it will stay unaffected (i.e. "updated").
ok one question, i unlocked my desire s on htcdev site, i instal clockwork mod recovery and rooted with super user, i install fallout, but on the screen stay black boot scren htc desire htd, and system not but, i try with sabsa rom, and ice ds and roms not boot, bootloder is unlocked s-on and rooted, where i am wrong???

which stable ICS rom

Hi guys,
After a lot of effort i managed to:
unlock bootloader
install CW 5
root the device
Now i need a reccomendation for an ICS or JB rom.
I need everything completely stable, that is highest priority, and after that comes the speed.
Please advise also about which kernel if i do need to change it?
I'm currently on GB.
I want to upgrade only with install zip from sd card if possible, from CW5 or whichever.
THANKS!
If you want an ics rom you will have to update your firmware to ics firmware which is 3.33 or 3.32.I believe you must be s off in order to do this. If your on gb right now to load any ics rom firmware must be updated.then once your ready I recommend to try out several roms for yourself and see which meets your needs best. Depending on your Rom, different kernels can be tired with the different roms. I'm running paranoid Android by Dragun Korr, it's jelly bean. My kernel is 3.0 51 by Dragun. I really love this rom. It's smooth fast and stable. However I suggest you try out several because everyone is different and has different opinions. It's always best to try for yourself and make your own conclusion. Hope this is helpful. Best wishes. Remember to do your nandroid backup before flashing so you can return to your old rom if need be. As long as firmware matches.
Have fun and experiment. I also recommend 4ext recovery. Some roms require it. And it's really a great recovery!

yes, it was 1.18
i did it now and when it asked me to install recovery, i skipped it since i already have it, i hope that is ok

switch off your device
remove battery
insert it again
then hold power button and volume down together until it shows you the bootloader screen
in the top of the screen it will say S-OFF
now to upgrade firmware just follow the instructions in the link that i provided you
at the top it says PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
i went into recovery again and tried with the 3.32 as suggested and again, installation aborted, what am i doing wrong?
by the way, i really appreciate the support, it's a lot easier with this kind of help, and i work as a support member for other stuff so i know how it is..

that is your mistake.see the bold one as marked
upgrading the firmware version it can be done only via bootloader
it is not like roms or kernels.
see again the steps in the link on how to upgrade the firmware.you missed something
and yes you are S-OFF
yeah, it should find the new zip automatically, the problem is that i didn't get that
but you are correct, i tried again and now it worked!
installing new ROM now, finally
hopefully that will go without problems
thanks again
Hi also 4ext recovery is recommended. You can get download on xda or play store. It's really a great recovery and almost all use it. Its very easy to use and I believe some roms require it. You can download after installation of rom. If you have issues with download try 4ext. You won't be sorry. It's a great recovery

thanks,
yes i've been using it since the first guy responded i should try 4ext
not bad, i admit
Hi there.
I strongly suggest Android Revolution HD. I've been using it now for almost 2 weeks and its rock solid.
Its very smooth with decent battery life and you get some sick mods for it!

[How-to] HTC One XL (Telstra) - ROOT/ SCID/ SOFF/ T-SCREEN / CM10.1

This is for all the people out there who currently have the most up to date version of the stock HTC One XL (Telstra) software/ firmware 3.17.xx and wish to be able to install CM10.1 and other ROMS alike.
I found it very hard to find all the information out there to be able to do this and now that it is finally done I feel the need to share this valuable information to all who are possibly having the same drama.
Here it is!
Step 1 - HTC Dev Unlock
This is easy! go to the HTC website and unlock your phone via their steps, It's simple and you can't stuff it up.
***MAKE SURE YOU KEEP ALL FILES FROM THIS, AS YOU'LL BE NEEDING IT LATER ON***
***THIS WILL RESET YOUR PHONE SO MAKE SURE YOU CONTACTS AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT IS BACKED UP***
***MAKE SURE YOU REMEMBER THE LAST STEP USING THE FILE HTC SEND YOU, AS YOU WILL NEED TO BE DOING THIS AGAIN LATER ON***
Step 2 - SuperCID
Firstly do this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41482419
Once done, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155069& and follow exactly!
Step 3 - S-OFF
For steps 5 and 6 I reccomend combing those two lines of code into a .bat file and the same with step 7.
Step 4 - Downgrade Touch Screen
You can't go wrong if you follow this think exactly!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2159863
Step 5 - Flash Custom Recovery
I reccomend CWM
Step 6 - Install ROM!
Ok! So you've done all the steps below and you're now ready for the best part!
1. Go to http://get.cm/?device=evita and download the latest CM10.1 nightly.
2. Locate 4.2.2 Gapps via a quick Google search.
3. Fully wipe your device from Recovery if you are not coming from CM10.1 already.
4. Reboot into recovery and install ROM and then Gaaps.
That's if and you're now done! You phone is now like every other Android phone out there and you can now install any ROM via the custom recovery! Without having to flash the boot.img seperatly.
If you want to go even further and get rid of the red text on boot about your phone being tampered, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2156368&highlight=supercid

Any testing done on AT&T One X?
Sorry only tested on the Telstra version (being the model I have). I've had CleanROM 6 R6 on my model which was built for AT&T and that seem to work except for tethering and major battery pwnage and that to me suggests that this -may- work.
I can only suggest that you try it and let me know how you go. It would he interesting to find out!
Good luck!

Hi All,
Was wondering if these steps are still valid for software number: 3.17.841.9 with Android 4.1.1 (One XL Telstra)?
For instance, do we still have to downgrade the touchscreen?
Also, when the phone is reset (wiped) from recovery, wouldn't this also wipe the images that I've downloaded?
Would I still be able to use the stock telstra image unstill Step 6 (after step 4 or 5 is complete)?
Thank you...
Cheers

Yep, should still work. If the downgrading hboot part doesn't work, you can also use jet tool to downgrade hboot then just RUU after S-OFF

Not for cm10.1 on 3.4 beta kernel. And not for sense Roms. Just remember that it is a beta kernel and there are some weird glitches and a few reported bricks so if you have no plan if your phone happens to brick, you may want to avoid it until it's stable. The chances of bricking are extremely slim, but it has happened.

So long as you don't select SD Card when wiping, it won't touch your SD Card.

After flashing custom recovery, your stock rom may not boot unless you flash su in recovery.
Root?

Hi Guys,
I started with following this guide. Went through the HTC DEV process without a hassle (cancelled and backed everything up just before flashing the unlock token - Phew!)
Then I get to the first part of step 2 for the SuperCID and it seems to require root.
Austempest said:
Apparently the 3.17.841.9 update placed a write protection on the CID partition, so the only way to gain SuperCID, then S-OFF to install an AOKP Rom is to downgrade.
This will only work if you stay within the same HBOOT versions. 3.17.841.9 and 3.17.841.2 are both on HBOOT 2.14. Both root and SU is needed.

I've found a few other guides that did the Custom recovery ROM immediately after the HTC Dev. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2326329
This thread suggests that it should then be possible to flash SuperSU to gain root. I'd guess I can't skip a step to flash a Custom ROM directly due to the issues with the 3.17.841.9 update.
Is this the right way to go?
Edit: It worked. Then followed the rest of the steps for SuperCID and S-OFF. If we don't have to downgrade the touchscreen as per exad's post above, then I'm good to go! Woot!
Looking at the CyanogenMod page for the OneXL it has the following:
HTC One XL
CM Support: 10, 10.1
Notes:
The CM 10.1 builds require you to be updated to the newest 3.17/3.18 RUU (for the updated firmware and the 2.14 hboot). You also must downgrade your touchscreen firmware, see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38304611&postcount=1

You no longer need to downgrade your touchscreen firmware to run the latest aosp builds. If you want to run older builds you will need to though.

Maybe out of wack :S
Hey all,
I hope this guide has helped some people, I know that with the HTC One XL doing everything can be a bit of a pain.
This guide was written up after I had done everything so some steps maybe out of wack. eg... Gaining Root before SuperCID.
I'll update this as best as possible and if anyone ever has any input to this to make things simpler then please just let me know.

Hi I had a simple confusion. Firstly the details of my phone are below
Super cid
vit Pvt ship S-OFF rl
Hboot 2.14.0000
Radio 0.23a. 32.09.29
OpeDSP - v31.1.0.45.0815
Emmc-boot
My first question is should I follow tesltra method or the AT&T rooting method since in a few threads I got the impression that I should be using the AT&T method but according to this thread I should be following this method.
Secondly I am by default S-OFF and super cid so do I need to unlock my bootloader to root?
Thanks

Hey mate,
If you're Telstra I would suggest this method, my phone is Telstra and thus this guide has been written up for those users. If you're AT&T this may work for you, however there maybe some weird bugs to go with... Or it may work 100% and honestly I wouldn't know.
I would highly suggest unlocking your bootloader and flashing a custom recovery onto your phone. Having this has saved my ass heaps of times when I've been stuffing around with new settings from custom ROMS.

None. I have an unbranded phone and it's not locked with any network, which is the reason for the confusion

If it's unbranded, you can just go to htcdev and unlock your bootloader, then flash TWRP 2.6 recovery, then flash the ROM of your choice.

Well, it's my first post on here, i've been reading about rooting/custom roms etc. for a few months now and i couldn't seem to find a nice method to root my htc one xl. I just read here that all i need to do is to to unlock the bootloader, is that correct ? can i directly flash a recovery and a custom rom after that ? (i'd like to try cyanogenmod 11)
thanks in advance, and by the way i love this forum it's very enlightning.
Yes. Unlock your bootloader, then you can install TWRP recovery, then you can install a custom ROM. You might need a firmware upgrade first though, what are your bootloader details?
