Your rooted dude don't worry the apk deletes itself once it roots. If you want install a Root checker and make sure.
Nope, it says I'm not rooted :/ is there any other work around?

Start of fresh first try factory reset if its a no go then fxz that will definitely work. Then install the apk and get root.
Make sure your using the right apk.. I ran into this issue because I was directed to the moto x apk which was patched

I haven't used fxz or rsd since my bionic. Like 5 phones ago. But that should work? I've seen a few different fxz files for the maxx. I'm assuming that since I'm in 12.7.7 I should stick with that one? Or are there advantages with the other file?

Just letting you know, it's not called Ultra Maxx. It's either Ultra or Maxx not both. Just a heads up

So awhile back when I had my inspire I checked into unlocking it, and found the forum on here about the aahk advanced hack kit. I just recently started messing with it since I have a new phone. I've had some problems with rooting it. First time the process went about halfway through then quit. Now every time you try it the process will not cooperate and gives an error. Anyone have any suggestions for a noob like me to try and help in any way? Anything is appreciated.

What was the output? And which version of AAHK?
What do you mean by output? And its an older version...probably from May 2012. I think there is a new version that came out in November 2012, i just don't know if I've bricked it by using the old kit.

Here is the video I used to root when I was on 2.3.3 Gingerbread. It's painless, but takes some waiting.
What is the error you are getting, exactly? D: and if you are on 2.3.3 try my link. ^.^ If you are on 2.3.5 or another version, try searching more hack kits for rooting that specific rom version.

Ok, step, by step, what did you do? And by output I mean what did AAHK say when it ran (both times). Also, what does it say when you reboot into hboot? (Reboot holding power and volume-down.)
Noob mistake I know, but I couldn't tell you. (Calc and physics has my brain fried...). I think I'm going to try the latest hack kit tonight and come back on here if I need help or get stuck. More than likely I'll be back.

Okay so here's what happened last night. I tried the new aahk (11092012) and it required a downgrade of the rom. Process went thru but however when it got to thr hboot menu I received a message telling me that the image was not found. I have a pic of the output where it tells me the downgrade is complete (if anyone wants to decipher it for me), all the way thru the hboot directions. Could this be a faulty sd card?

I have but actually got stuck. For the HTCdev there is no option for the Inspire 4G. I tried it under the Desire HD. That told me (I think) the current rom is unavailable and they are working on it. Then I tried "all other models", which also got me stuck...

ok, then you still can unlock the bootloader...you can boot in hboot can't you? Do you mind if I connect to your PC via teamviewer to lend you a hand?
I wouldn't mind at all, however not at the moment. I'm at work until 6...7 or after. Seems a little sketchy though, just skeptical. Don't want something to happen to my rig lol

I tried to redo the htcdev bootloader earlier and now when I get to some of the earliest steps I run into a problem. Everytime I try to fastboot is says "no image found" land searches for a zin file. I know its something like pd098.zip or whatever it is. How do I get around this?

I'm rooted with motoroot v1.1....can I just use the unroot function of the app and then install the ota update?
Thanks
Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
I have motoroot 1.1 also (only needed the entitlement hack) and my OTA worked with it rooted. Kept root too. Since it doesn't mess with the boot loader there wasn't a problem.

Ugh, now I'm getting a completely different story from the General forum. Someone there says you do have to unroot a Motoroot'ed device. Even says I have to use some new applications to do that. I don't see why I wouldnt be able to use Motoroot.
This is really getting confusing. Too many root methods for me to keep track of.
I certainly wouldn't want to steer you in the wrong direction, all I know is that motoroot 1.1 didn't replace the bootloader and that's why I wasn't afraid to take the OTA. The root methods that came after it did, and that's why I didn't install any of them.
Honestly, the Droid MAXX is the first Droid I've had that I didn't feel the desire to ROM... It's perfect the way it is. I had the OG, X, and Bionic prior to this phone and was constantly reflashing them with something new. The entitlement hack was all I needed for the MAXX.
Sent from my XT1080 using xda app-developers app
Yep, I felt the same way. I use some apps that require root and I like the mobile hotspot. I don't plan on installing any custom Roms
Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
So, I finally pulled the trigger on the update.
I was rooted with Motoroot v1.1.
I only have the mobile hotspot entitlement hack, and some apps that use root. I didnt make any other changes.
I installed the update without removing root. The update installed just fine. I have confirmed that phone still has root access and mobile hotspot still works.
How do I get rid of motoroot? I got this phone with it still in the system, but not in the drawer. I've done a factory reset and fxz. But when I try to install the app it says that the file already exists and cannot be installed.

I'm not 100% sure. That is a strange situation. It seems like someone tried to return to stock without removing the files first, maybe?
When you used the FXZ method, did you save data or do the clean install?
I did the clean install. I also tried to adb push the apk. But it says it already exists. Strange, I've never seen an app withstand a fxz, then two ota updates. I'm going to attempt the rockmymoto way tomorrow. I can't have an un rooted phone ha ha

Sorry if this has already been covered but is there a way to root after todays Ota update?
Thanks
there's a post asking the same question literally right below this one called "[Q] Motoroot after OTA update?" that has the answer.

I used PwnMyMoto by installing it before taking the update AFTER a fxz with save data using house of moto.
I used RockMyMoto just an hour ago and it worked fine.

Hey guys,
I thought I'd make a new separate thread for the OTA update instead of the LG Tool method. OTA just started going out to phones. I was wondering:
Anyone get the OTA yet? And if you did use the OTA, did you root before and keep your root?
Thanks everyone!
As far as ive read you wont revive a OTA if your rooted, You would have too un-root/flash stock, Update then re-root.

I did the OTA and lost root. I'm not sure if it would make any difference, but I did not check the setting in SuperSU to maintain root after OTA. I'm not sure if this would work anyway.

Still no OTA. What gives?
I got my notification just last night. So it should slowly get to everyone.
Note 1: It would not install until I charged my phone.
Note 2: I still got the notification for my T-Mobile D801 even though I'm unlocked and on H2O.
