LG Vu 3 Announced, Has 4:3 Display, Snapdragon 800 CPU, and 14 MP Camera
About a month ago the folks at Korean Times have provide the first information about the third generation of the LG Vu smartphone. The South Korean phone maker officially launched the new LG Vu 3 today, which keeps the same odd 4:3 aspect ratio for the screen, but bringing a powerful hardware platform and enhanced stylus support.
The new LG Vu 3 handset brings a AH-IPS display sized 5.2 inches and sporting a resolution of 1,280 x 960 pixels, making use of a slightly narrower bezel which made the terminal grow in size with only 5 mm when compared to its predecessor.
The hardware platform chosen by LG for the Vu 3 is based on a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset with quad-core 2.26 GHz Krait 400 GPU and Adreno 330 GPU, a common solution for most of the high-end Android smartphones launched in the second half of the year. The smartphone also comes with 2 GB of RAM, but the Korean company failed to provide details regarding the smartphone’s internal storage or microSD card support.
Hello everyone ... I'm a lucky possessor Italian and unique at the time of this monstrous device from LG ... no doubt about it .... zero lag, zero spots, no nothing. Stable and fast like no other devices in circulation. I bought it on the Internet directly from Korea, a week of agony but worth it and only notice and the fact data traffic sim Italian ... even if unlocked, should not be in HSDPA ... if some cook my comment reads this and wants to try to help me out, I'd be more than happy

Um... how exactly is dual core 1GHz three times faster than single core 1.4GHz?
A dual core processor is never twice as fast as a single core if both have the same frequency, e.g. 2x 2GHz vs. 2GHz on a PC/laptop.
This is just a marketing trick fooling people to buy "greater numbers".
If you want to make a realistic comparison, take the two phones, put them side by side, put them in the same working circumstances, and ONLY THEN measure whose processor is faster.
Different CPU generations, ARM's own comparison puts the Cortex A9 atleast 30% ahead of the A8 clock-for-clock.
The TI OMAP has the NEON FPU that adds massive performace in some tasks, like video decoding/encoding.
Sure, side-by-side comparison is the best, but the Sharp is Japan only. nobody cares unless you live in Japan.
How about the evo 3d?
Evo 3D will use the older CPU, but clocked higher. Not sure about the winner in a CPU fight.
But I think it will be missing the NEON FPU, in some tasks the O3D will beat it.
For example VPlayer, uses NEON to play HD clips:

I had just confirmed it is so. The phone can be bought for about 58000yen from Docomo shops, and the Unlocking costs 3500yen. I came over to Tokyo for biz trip and had time to visit a few shops and etc and verified it. some sellers are selling it cheaper at about 45000yen locked. Hope this info helps..

Confirm all unlock except for WI-FI hotspot( tethering). Currently no one can root it yet. it seems to change the APN to dcmtrg.ne.jp whenever you switch the tethering on.
I have bought it and been using it since end of May. I think you can get them from any importer.
Feel like the fastest single core phone. Except for 1080P movie playing and recording it is as good a the new 2 cores phone
Seems no one is using it here in XDA yet?
Here is a video overview of the Sharp:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKyzcshZOAI&feature=related
Available on Ebay now.
Looks like it is at least 30grams lighter than the O3D or Evo 3D and a few mm less wide too.
Looks like the 3G radios work in EU and maybe at some ops in USA too?
Just bought it... cool phone.... except for the phonebook when I load from Gmail... its jumbled up... not in a-z sequence

I would have bought this phone over the LG or the HTC 3D phones, simply because it already is available and more pocket friendly with 30g less weight and a few mm less wide. One forum comment was that the single core is not enough for full hd playback, but for example the Optimus 2X also has issues unless the video is encoded with all the correct setttings.

Screenshots show that it has built in support for Japanese and English.
The specs on the radio list the frequencies that we use in EU, but I am not an expert at this. Maybe someone else can confirm that.
Snip from the hands on below at Engadet somewhat confirms this:
"2100MHz (world) and 800MHz (Japan) HSPA support"
http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/20/sharp-aquos-sh-12c-3d-smartphone-hands-on-video/
Engadget has done an excellent hands on/review of the Sharp SH-12C, including photo and video samples in 2D and 3D. Looks like it also shoots 3D video at 720p, like the O3D/Evo3D:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/20/sharp-aquos-sh-12c-3d-smartphone-hands-on-video/
"The 4.2-inch qHD (960 x 540 pixel) glasses-free 3D LCD is just spectacular, with excellent colors, brightness, and contrast as well as decent viewing angles."
"it takes 3D pictures at 2 megapixels (in MPO format only) and captures 3D video in 720p at 30 fps, with the left and right frames being squeezed into a single 1280x720 pixel H264 frame. 720p is also the maximum resolution for 2D video recording, but 2D stills are shot using the full 8 megapixels."

Because HK use the same standard as in EU,
I have tried GSM and HSDPA network all work ok , and similiar for prople around asia( from other countries' forums)
so no need worry if you are in US unless your area only support CDMA network. It selling like hot cakes here in HK. My freind who is selling these direct import phone worry it will run out of stock soon or DOCOMO pull the plug to because . Also the Japanese usually only produce phone for one season, then you will have to wait for the Winter models or inflated price.
Since it is illegal by Japanese law to export phones outside of Japan or to sell phones to non-Japanese resident in Japan.

Please list which 5 upcoming android phones interest you the most. I compiled a list of possibilities below, but other new phones may be accepted. Discuss why if you want, add to the pros and cons.
Galaxy S3:
Pros – Exynos quad core 32nm processor that’s LTE capable, Ceramic casing, bezel-less design, ICS (rumoured to be stock vanilla not TW) 4.6+"large screen.
Cons – It’s all one big rumour for now. Plus will likely have TW.
HTC One X:
Pros – Tegra3 quin core, large 4.7” screen, 32GB storage plus 23GB dropbox, Bluetooth 4, 8MP 1080p recording. ICS, Available Now. Excellent Camera features.
Cons – No micro sd support, look of camera, heard dropbox only valid for 2 years. Debatable whether sense 4 falls in here.
LG 4x HD:
Pros – Tegra3 quin core, large 4.7” screen, 8MP camera w/1080p recording, good battery 2140mAh, NFC, Bluetooth 4, micro sd card ICS
Cons –MWC video demo seemed laggy
Asus Pad phone:
Pros – Versatile new phone concept that can fit in a tablet, dual core 1.5 GHz Krait a15 28nm processor, desirable 4.3 screen . Q2 release.
Cons – Possibly a pricy combo.
Droid Fighter:
Pros - Large 3300mAh battery, big 4.6 MP 720p screen, LTE, Bluetooth 4, ICS
Cons – possible rumour, nothing really known. Motoblur.
Motorola Atrix 3:
Pros – Tegra3 quin core, large 3300mAh battery, desirable 4.3” 720p screen, 10 MP camera. ICS
Cons – Almost all based on rumour with very little confirmed. Motoblur.
Fujitsu F12arc:
Pros – Tegra3 quin processor, highly water and dust resistant, Big 4.6” screen, 13 MP camera , 4GLTE (??? Thought it was incompatible with tegra 3 so far.)ICS
Cons – Unknown battery life, still ironing out ICS development glitches, maybe Q3 release or later.
Panasonic Eluga Power:
Pros - A fairly good processor 1.5GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 processor, Big 5” screen, water and dust proof, 8 MP camera, Fast Charge, ICS
Cons –Mediocre battery 1800 mAh, global launch details still speculated.
Hauwei Ascend D Quad:
Pros – Fast quad core, lovely 4.5” screen 1080p recording, good size 2500mAh battery ICS
Cons – Quality unproven, GPU unknown, might be a bit late to the game Q3-Q4
Because I'm on att, I would have to pick Galaxy s3, atrix 3, HTC one x, LG 4x HD, and Asus padfone in that order. nice gathering of all the rumors btw!

Those are good choices. Tegra 3 is lovely and I hold a lot of respect for it, but the Exynos really intrigues me and 32nm will likely provide good power efficiency.
My list is similar Galaxy S3, Atrix 3, Fujitsu F12arc, HTC One X, Asus Padfone. Although the LG4x HD could easily be swapped for HTC One X. Optus didn't get any of the Atrix series though so I have to see what ends up here in Australia.
Im eager to see the eluga power.
Some more pros and cons for it:
Pro: Small form factor: As big as a galaxy nexus but with 5" Display, On Screen Buttons
Con: apparantly no LED Flash, no MHL or other video out, fixed battery
I have to add, that the device is ip57 certified - that means it is actually waterproof not only water resistant.

Good to see others adding additional info.
So voting for a tougher version, water proof version of the galaxy note with what should be a greater a15 version duo core s4 snapdragon processor is a great choice. A processor that is suppose to stand toe to toe with tegra 3. Or surpass it if certain benchmarks are to be believed.
The waterproof phones (I believed the F12arc also says waterproof, I don't list until I know it is) are now getting competitive processors, unlike the defy. Phones with great build and processors should always rank high on our lists. Glad to see someone voting that way. Just hope we get to see it. Aussie land hasn't seen the Razr Maxx yet, so I can only pray for the Eluga power or F12arc.
Just a harmless conversation based on what the next Samsung flagship phone might receive based on trends of the mobile industry. You can offer your own opinions and/or critiques.
With the Nexus 4, sporting a very powerful S4 Snapdragon quad processor, 320 Adreno GPU, 2 GB of RAM and the standard HD display, it's sure to be the strongest thing we have until the HTC Butterfly (now dubbed the HTC DNA) comes (reportedly to Verizon) sporting a 1080p screen, probably the same processor and RAM, as well as a bigger battery.
It's clear that the competition within the Android ecosystem isn't as monopolized by Samsung like it was a year or two ago - at least in terms of quality products. The Galaxy S II stayed not only as the top Android phone, but the top phone period for almost a whole year. It seems that HTC and LG have stepped up their game and are putting out functioning, competitive products. The Galaxy S III kind of fell off the performance radar within 4-5 months. (comparatively speaking)
Samsung has been reportedly testing 3 GB RAM on experiment phone models; if that made it to the final product of the GSIV, that would make it a trend-setter in that regard. It's also going to come with the new-generation 13 megapixel camera module, which is slated to desolate any popular 8 MP camera shooters on the market - such as the HTC One X, Galaxy S III (the worst of the bunch on the front-facing camera) or iPhone 5 with its color-reproduction and low-light performance.
As for the processor, I hope they throw in the ultra-powerful Exynos 5450 (the Cortex-A15 quad-core) rated at around 2 GHz, it will absolutely eat the already unbelievably fast S4 Krait quad in the upcoming megaphones for breakfast. The Mali-658 GPU from the aforementioned would probably also be on par, if not better than that in the iPad 4's A6X's GPU. Last but not least, anyone else hoping we'll see a beautiful Super AMOLED HD Plus display (or whatever they'll call it) with full 1080p?
All of these rumors and speculation sound reasonable at this point, given what we've been seeing in the market place. If it all turned out to be true, the Galaxy S IV would be leaps and bounds above any smartphone upon its release and maybe easily throughout the year subsequent to its release. I'm actually excited that the competition within Android is picking up steam. The harder these companies compete against each other, the more us, as consumers win.
In the next generation phones, most of them would be compatible with nfc payments, like Google wallet or isis.
I expect faster processor and a minimum of 2 gb of ram.
Most likely, every phone will come in different screen sizes. So you can choose a particular phone with your choice of screen size.

Why would they use Tegra 3 chips - which are only Cortex-A9's and the fact that Samsung develops their own chipset means they would opt for their own before another chipset commonly found in its competitors.

I sure hope they don't use the tegra chipset. That'll make them depend on nVidia for updates.
more batery life
It's great that a lot of attention is put into adding better specs (RAM, CPU, features like NFC, etc), but my biggest concern is that they' don't pay enough attention to battery life. I don't understand why they don't invest more in this field.
Here's to hoping that Samsung will care more about this and innovate in this area.
The new LG G Pro 2 sports a 5.9-inch Full HD (1080 x 1920) IPS display, weighs 172 grams, and measures 157.9 × 81.9 × 8.3 mm - and yet the Korean company calls it a smartphone, not a phablet. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat, coming with an “evolved” KnockOn feature called Knock Code. For the moment, the rough automatic translation of the press release announcing the handset doesn’t allow us to fully understand how the new feature works.
The G Pro 2 is LG’s first smartphone to offer a high-power 1W speaker, which should make it a multimedia powerhouse. The handset has a 2.1MP front-facing camera, and a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and OIS plus (an improved version of the Optical Image Stabilization which debuted on the LG G2 last year). The rear camera can record 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) video. Other features: LTE-A connectivity, NFC, quad-core 2.26GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, MicroSD card support, and a 3,200 battery (apparently removable).

How many of you impressed about G pro 2 ???
Back then, when the Optimus G was annouced, I was pretty impressed by the specs. Now though, I realise the lack in many aspects makes it a "second runner" in many point. The lack of update, even for bug correction and the lack of quality in certain apsects, like the camera software or audio rendering make it so that I won't be looking at "specs" only anymore.
Anyway, unless I can sell my OG a decent price to get a N5, I think I'll wait to see what will Lenovo do with Motorola.

This is the phone for me, I got this and never been satisfied, Fine camera shooting, superior smooth transitions and big storage! Thank you
I recently smashed my Nexus 4 and looking for a new phone to invest in.
Q4 2014 and 2015 is very interesting times as Android move towards a more 64-bit related environment.
From version L and beyond, Android will natively out of the box support Aarch64.
The new upcoming flagships are equipped with Snapdragon 805 SOCs, manufactured with 28nm. However this is still stuck in ARM-v7 instruction set.
Arm-v8 offers a newer instruction set, which equals better performance and other optimisations.
Should I wait a while for new flagship Arm-v8 phones or buy a 801-805 equipped one now? Will you notice the difference? 20nm vs 28nm - how much does the batteri benefit?
Thank you!
The first question is what do you need the phone for? N4 is a good phone although 3 yeas old technology.
You can buy 8 core high quality Chinese phone today for less than $150 which is significantly better than the N4, so no apparent reason to wait..
